@@fishingmad sick a mate of mine catching cod around the 75cm mark out bellfield a few months ago plus Taylor’s lake near Horsham has meter plus cod hiding in there
Thanks for great content Alan. Lake Lonsdale looks very picturesque! So good of you showing us all these great places to fish! Intresting choice of kayak to use. How do you recon the Lynx would go there?
Thanks !! Yeah I had a few issues with the yak I was using in this vid. The Lynx would be amazing there, being able to navigate around the trees. Just dont go out on super windy day
still haven't got ya 50cm Reddy yet m8, cant wait until u do will be awesome ! love ya video's buddy been watching them for last couple months, u explain everything very well iv learnt alot! i will become a member soon 🤟🤟
Thanks so much !! Yeah I have caught several redfin 49cm and 48cm but never cracked that 50. Still haunts me, but I'm persistent so ill get it soon. Might have to head back to Wurdi or Fyans and really put some hours in.
u will crack that 50 bud, as u said put in the time, and u will get the results, never been to fyans or wurdi looks great will put that on me bucket list, good luck!@@fishingmad
Great stuff again Alan! What’s your approach to preparing the feed when catching quite a bag? Do you tend to fillet as their scales are wickedly tough…? Do you tend to keep them in a fridge overnight then prep or do them later in that day? Thanks to a few videos, I’m still working on my filleting skills and finding the right knife… They’re an awesome table fish!
I bleed them and put them on ice. Then I fillet them. I simply run/slide the knife down the fillet to quickly and easily remove the skin because it can be mighty tough to remove if you do it any other ways. There are some vids on how we do this in the FishingMad Members area. Best Regards Al
Yeah Kayak Fishing is amazing. The choice will ultimately come down to cost. As the price difference between entry level and high end is massive. Not always but generally the better yaks are more stable and have better features. If you have a budget in mind I can prob suggest some ideas and always good to look at places like marketplace for a bargain especially if you can find something like an outback or compass.
Great value reels the Laguna 2500 new Laguna rods recently came out so that might be a perfect match or even an infeet. What species are you mainly targeting
Do you have a budget in mind ?? Being a Daiwa reel makes sense to stick to a Daiwa rod. Id suggest looking at the TD Zero's, TD Blacks. They have some ripper rods in there range that are a tad less finesse then the infeets which are great for redfin, yellowbelly and carp
The new TD hypers are about $170, the Aird-X is about $100 and amazing value, but if you can jump up to a TD Black for an extra $50 they are really great
Yeah its a great place to fish and camp. A few weeks earlier we got stuck into a few big redfin there in the shallows, just not on this trip. So 100% worth heading back at some stage
@@fishingmad Alan, believe it or not but I'm on my 14th Hobie right now. I have a PA14 and a Compass right now but will be looking for another 2020+ Outback. They are a great all rounder and still easy to car top as I get sick of the trailer sometimes.
In Vic is it illegal to put Redfin back back? I know in NSW you can be fined if you put them back in the water - beautiful fish, but a shame they are such a pest!
Its not illegal but highly recommended not to return them. In Vic there are only a few waterways where it is illegal to return them. This is the snippet from VFA website "Anglers are encouraged not to return redfin to the water as they prey on native fish species and can impact other recreational fisheries."
Need to head out to lake bellfield in halls gap some nice yellowbelly and cod in there now after the stocking program
Yeah 100% im really keen to give Bellfield a go. I think ill head there next month as we fished fyans, lonsdale and the lake in town on our last trip

I was using a Drop Bear kayak, i was just doing some product testing of it for that overnight trip only. Cheers
What's you opinion on the bay sports 3.9 pedal pro
Great vid, is it free camping or paid?
Camping is free there
Gday Alan , so I’ve been thinking of getting a new rod for my Laguna 2500 what rods would you recommend for that reel?
Great value reels the Laguna 2500 new Laguna rods recently came out so that might be a perfect match or even an infeet. What species are you mainly targeting
@@fishingmad I mainly target Redfin trout carp cod and yellowbelly on it.

Have ya used imposter 🦐 prawns yet unreal gear 3ins. Crushcity.
Yeah they are really good. Ill be covering those over the coming weeks
@@fishingmad well ya should see the new gel eye's for lures last fish 6kg finger mark.
I wet there for the first time last weekend it is a great place to camp
We didn't get any fish though
Yeah its a great place to fish and camp. A few weeks earlier we got stuck into a few big redfin there in the shallows, just not on this trip. So 100% worth heading back at some stage
Hopefully next time they will fire. We found most of them in the shallows and hugging the tree lines
I only had worms but I think I will go and get some soft plastics. I have never used them before so I think it is time to give them a try
Yeah soft plastics work a treat, plus it allows you to cover ground and hit different areas. Plus its heaps of fun.
Those were some fat fish, was this tape made pre-spawn or are they in a good paddock.👍
Yeah just pre-spawn
Alan, is that your new Kayak? You got rid of the PA14?
Nah, I was just testing this one for the trip away. Not selling the PA14 its an amazing kayak.
@@fishingmad Yep agreed got one myself.
Awesome !! Cant beat a PA in my books.
