  • What an amazing episode, fishing at the stunning location of Lake Fyans on the Grampians Halls Gap. This time were chasing a 50cm redfin whilst running through a heap of tipss and techniques on how to catch redfin on soft plastics and how to catch redfin on lures at Halls Gap the which provides the wonderful backdrop to the Grampians. Were fishing Lake Fyans on a Drop Bear x300 kayak and we get stuck into some amazing fishing action. Flicking soft plastics among the timber, weeds and structure and trolling we catch some amazing big redfin english perch and rainbow trout. In what is a remarkable fishing system with scenic views and unbelievable fishing in Victoria.
    Location - Lake Fyans
    Fishing Method - Kayak Fishing
    Kayak - Drop Bear x300 ( please note I had problems on the water with steering and stability)
    Lure - Duo Realis Ryuki Spearhead
    Soft Plastics - Strike Tiger 3 inch minnow in Vodka and Orange
    Rod - Shimano Poison Adrena | NS Tarantula edge
    Reel - Shimano Stella FK and Twin Power FD
    Can you catch redfin on soft plastics? Yes absolutely
    What lure to use to catch redfin? Shallow and mid divers, soft plastics, cranks, vibes, blades and much more English perch are not fussy will take many lures
    What size lure for redfin? 2.5, 3 and 4 inch soft plastics like grubs and paddletails, lures typically between 50 and 80mm, vibes and blades between 30 and 45mm
    Do redfin eat surface lures? 100% they do we have much footage catching them in shallow waters using lures like daiwa slippery dogs and OSP bent minnows
    What weight line for redfin? Typically between 6lb and 10lb. I generally use 8lb
    Can you throw redfin back in Victoria? all redfin caught in this video were kept. In Victoria its encouraged not to release redfin english perch even though its not mandatory but more recommended. There are particular system were you are not allowed to release redfin
    What is the best time to catch redfin? Redfin can be caught during any time of day and all year round. They can be more active on dawn and dusk. We find you get big volumes in the warmer months and less catches but bigger sizes in the cooler months.
    Where is the best place to fish for redfin? In Victoria places like Lake Fyans, Wurdibuloc reservoir and many more. head to the FishingMad website which has location guides and maps.

      Thanks so much, yeah it is an amazing system. Im sure there are plenty of great options closer to SA. I crossed the border and fished the glenelg last week but the big mulloway eluded us. Mind you the weather was very poor

    I caught my first reddy in 1957, pan fryed less engine and eaten immediately.
    I got my pro licence on NSW and Vic inland waters in 1969 after discharge from the Military until they took our licences off us.
    Reddy are still my favourite along with Black Brim and Trout Cod, yellers next and Cod last.

    Hey man, I’m looking for a new trout, reddie, snapper, whiting and flatty setup, basically a soft plastic rod, got any suggestions, I need it to be in the 150 - 200 buck range and I don’t know how you do it but you seem to cast soo far. That’s what u really want in my rod.
    Keep up the amazing work, keep being the amazing teacher that you are and tight lines brother 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

    Hey mate, awesome vid. Are you required to keep the redfin like in NSW?

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  2 місяці тому

      Yeah, in VIC it really depends on the system you are fishing. Some systems they cannot be returned and many systems recommended not to return them.

    Hi mate,
    Any ideas how to target seagrass/algae eater species by lure? (like king wrasse, etc.) I see a lot of them (and they are quite large size) but don’t know how to target them by lure.

    Hi Alan, are you using the sounder just to understand the depth / drop offs etc on this lake,or are you actually using it to find the fish and then cast into where the fish are marked?

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Рік тому

      Nah was mainly just fishing hard up against and reedbeds, timber and structure thats perfect grounds for big reddies.

    • @shannontogo6538
      @shannontogo6538 Рік тому +1

      @@fishingmad thanks Alan. I'm going to hold off on getting a sounder to go with my kayak for now. Looks like an awesome spot,I would love to fish there but the distance from Bayside is a bit of a hike for me!

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Рік тому +1

      Yeah places like this just follow your eyes and fish the structure. Sounders will no doubt help but i think spots like this there is already so much to cast at.
