    It has been five years since the release of the "NVH" app for iOS and the "NVH for Android" app, and they are both going strong. Yes, it is an expensive app, but it also eliminates the guesswork involved in vibration diagnostics. Quit wasting money replacing parts that did not fix the problem and find out what type of vibration you actually have. Additionally, you will find out what type of vibration you do not have.

    Have you considered adding a cheaper version that restricts the user to just one or two vehicles? Would open up your app to more home users without compromising your professional user income stream. You could talk to the likes of the VCDS people who have offered similar cheaper options of their software. Great app btw.

    John this looks fantastic. it's also relatively cheap compared to the pico kit. can you manually input the gear ratios into the app for vehicles that are not in the database? and conversely can you view the transmission ratios and final drive ratios as a quick reference for vehicles that are in the database?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  8 років тому

      +Kevin Schmitt Hi, thank you! Yes, it is the least expensive NVH analyzer on the market, and yes, you can manually input gear ratios for any vehicle. We support 7 different powertrain configurations (FWD, RWD, 4WD, AWD, Class 4-8 Trucks, Crossover AWD, and Crossover AWD) with more (Hybrids and electric vehicles) coming later this summer. Yes, you can view transmission gear ratios and axle gear ratios for many, but not all of the vehicles that our app supports. We are currently working on adding additional vehicle brands and years to the database. We just released an update today with 2008-2016 Volvo cars and more Fords. See this video for manually entering vehicle information into the NVH app. ua-cam.com/video/jw58YZthEiU/v-deo.html

    I wonder if the bluetooth adapter for engine rpm helps it know when the transmission is shifting, as id imagine if you have an "other" type vehicle with manual data input i.e. trans ratios and such, it may not necessarily know what speed the transmissions shift points are at or exactly what gear its in and when.

    Whats wrong with the MIDDLE?
    Why are said front and rear weights of different amounts (11g, 5g). and, WHY are they in different spots? I.E. this one is at 12 oclock and that one is at 5oclock?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 років тому +2

      Yes, if you make a recording of the left side of the vehicle and another recording on the right side of the vehicle. The side with with highest amplitude level is the side with the problem. The closer you move your phone to the source of the vibration, the higher the amplitude will be. Best wishes!

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  3 роки тому +1

      CV joints only spin at a constant velocity when their working angle is less than half of its maximum angle. It is is more, they can cause moments of inertia. Three times per revolution on a tripod joint.

    John,
    Would you consider investigating if balance devices that are mounted between the hub and wheel are effective? Looks like your app capturing the data could create a baseline for a new car, remove wheels, install balance device, remount wheels in same position, test again and then remove all factory applied balance weights and test again. This is just a curiosity for me and maybe others. Myself, balance the tire and put the weights in the best locations. But many folks are adamant about the effectiveness of balance devices but I didn't see any test data to support their contribution to balancing. Just a question that seems to be lacking data. I have no connection to any balance device company, tire company or balancer company.
    Gary

    • @dangerdavefreestyle
      @dangerdavefreestyle Рік тому

      That is fascinating.
      They have the centramatic wheel balancers and theres a guy Chris Gamble who invented a balancemasters mercury filled ring that can go on driveshafts, airplane propellers, wheels, etc.
      I talked to him on the phone for a half hour. He would consistently try to anticipate what im about to say and cut me off mid sentence and raise his volume. We disagreed on some physics. It is still possible however that he has a great product. It is also possible any of these types of devices including balancing beads in a tire have some disadvantages.

    what is the difference between the T1, T2, T3? it does not give you a specific tire that it is detecting is bad correct? just a tire in general? also, can it differencitate between tires and RWD drive shafts or differential? I have a 2018 mustang eco that has a vibration 45-60 and the customer swears it wasnt there before we replaced the differential pinion seal (was leaking) but we dont know what to do about it. we just put in a new drive shaft and even transition in the car!! (was bucking bad).he had just got 4 new tires at another shop before coming to us, but says it wasnt there until we took the drive shaft out.

    Does it take vehicle speed from the OBD in newer versions?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 років тому +1

      No, GPS

    • @funkydunky1430
      @funkydunky1430 7 років тому +1

      WeberAuto, but why? OBD2 speed can be acquired with a greater sampling rate than once per second in a typical GPS, and with a far greater accuracy (minus the tyre wear). And you would be able to use that with non GPS phones and tablets...

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 років тому +1

      The NVH app requires GPS equipped phones and tablets to work correctly. Why use GPS? No data link connection (DLC) needed to diagnose tire and driveshaft speed related vibrations. Vehicle speed over the DLC can be very inaccurate dependent upon the tire size (original size or not). GPS is always accurate regardless of tire size. The GPS method will also work on any vehicle with or without an OBD2 DLC. Thanks for your feedback!

    • @funkydunky1430
      @funkydunky1430 7 років тому +1

      WeberAuto. but if the tyre size is weared out or different, it is the rpm of the wheel that counts for vibrations, not the true speed GPS calculates. and obd reported speed is directly proportional the to rpm of the wheel. am I somehow wrong here? of course, if I do not have a bluetooth adapter, GPS is a good enough source of speed.

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 років тому +1

      OBD may report the rpm of the tire, but it is programmed to base its rpm calculations on the original size tire of the vehicle. If someone installs shorter tires, the OBD rpm will be too fast. If someone installs taller tires, the OBD rpm will be too slow. GPS is always correct because you enter the dire diameter or size.
