Lovely work! The way the tin is removed from the pouch I have only ever seen on Cordura fabric pouches. I was just checking out your "Etsy" store, and found your web site, and then ended up here on your UA-cam channel. I was watching Wiltshire Man and he was showing of your handy work! I really liked the Pattern on the leather, but he said that the belt loop was crooked??? I could not tell, and I would have paid cash money for it as you must have worked for quite a long time making the pattern on the flap. Keep up the good work!

Excellent stuff ! What kind of glues were you using for the belt loop, and to hold the two halves together, as well as for the patches that cover the backs of the rivits so that the contents don't scratch?
It’s just PVA glue the same as you would use on wood it’s great for this type of job as it allows you a bit of movement, atb John.
I want to learn leather work so bad. Care to take on an apprentice?

The leather is 3-3.5mm thick your leather should work ok , atb John.

I am still learning - one question:
Those scissor cuts you make to fold the leather easier - what is the rule of thumb ? How deep do you make those cuts ? As far as the stitching allows for ?
Yes you want to get close to were the finished edge will be, the darts you cut out allow the leather to bend in on it's self, hope this will help you, atb John.

Scale that up a bit and it would make for a nice open carry holster pouch that would technically classify as concealed carry for those stores that have posted signs saying no open carry, but concealed carry is still allowed.
I believe John is in the UK. The carry mindset is strictly for sworn officers, not civilians. In the US may be ok... until the commies take complete control through the Democratic party that is...
@@michaelpcooksey5096 -- Understood... I was just tossing out an idea that came to me watching it...
In the US, there is basically two types of "concealed carry" -- absolute concealed and legally concealed... Because of the (unconstitutional) laws in some states, your only option it to be absolutely concealed when often limits your choice of handgun. For less oppressive states, you can just be "legally" concealed which basically means that a clueless person is not likely to know that you are carrying although anyone with any experience with firearms / the police will probably notice. A scaled up version of the pouch he created in this video would make for a nice alternative to the "legally" concealed scenario. Remember the leather flap holsters that the militaries used in the WW-I and WW-II eras? Often the flap did not cover the entire grip of the handgun, so that would of course not meet the legally concealed requirement, but even for those holsters which did completely cover the grip, it was still obvious you were carrying a handgun from the shape of the holster. On the other hand, if it was made rectangular and thus not show a handgun profile in the leather, it would meet the "legally" concealed requirement in many states. Here in Texas, we can either open carry or carry concealed, so it's not as much of an issue for us these days. Hopefully we will eventually throw off the last remnants of the Yankee Oppression that we were saddled with after the War of Northern Aggression...
Understood. Here in Illinois there is a sort of fanny pack for concealed carry, but like your holster shape scenario anyone with firearm experience would automatically suspect handgun. I don't consider the current Democratic party 'Northern' aggression. Mindset lines are not the same as war between the states. The Democratic party platform and thrust follows clear Communist mindsets. One can label an apple an orange, but if the color and taste say apple, then it's just one more lie. Or maybe it was just the Democrats became even more liberal than the liberal Republicans... Today's Democrats have gone so far to the left that they are Communists... Back in my day, it was perfectly acceptable to say, "The only GOOD Communist is a DEAD one"... Too bad that is not the attitude these days...
A black leather "fanny pack" basically screams "concealed carry"... The clueless sheeple don't know it though, so they can think that no one is carrying a gun when it could be that a lot of the people around them are carrying... Interestingly, the UK people get a big of a laugh when we say "fanny pack" because "fanny" means something a bit different to them... Their phrase for the same thing would be "bum bag"... The word "fanny" is offensive slang for "vulva", so saying "fanny pack" would be like saying "pussy pack" in the US... :) And we *supposedly* speak the same language... :)
Very seldom do I carry with a fanny pack anymore... Maybe when I'm riding my Harley, but even then, it's not with a fanny pack that was designed explicitly for concealed carry... As such, it's not black leather and is a bit less likely to be assumed to be for concealed carry even by people who are firearm knowledgeable... I recently had a crazy old lady neighbor who hired a landscaping company to trespass on my property to trim the limbs on one of my trees that were dropping cypress needles on her driveway... I told them that they could only legally trim to the point where the limb crossed the fence line, not trespass on my property by trimming on my side of the fence line... She (or her equally crazy adult daughter) called the police and claimed I was threatening the landscaping company. When the police arrived, I was chatting with the owner (who was also the company that I use to mow my yard). When questioned by the police, the owner and all the workers said that I had not threatened anyone. The daughter is screaming and says, "He carries a gun!" The officer had already checked my CHL before she came outside and he said, "He's carrying one RIGHT NOW AND IT IS PERFECTLY LEGAL!" At some point, she screams, "He has THREE guns at home!"... I had to laugh at that one though since that just showed how little she knew -- I had a LOT more than that (probably around 50 in my collection)... The officer also got a kick out of that since no true Texan would only have THREE guns... LOL... She then starts screaming that we won't have them for long because "we won and Trump lost"... Yet another bat-shit crazy liberal... Even Texas has some of them (unfortunately)... Too bad we can't just send all the liberal kooks to Chicago...

That’s just PVA glue I use it sometimes because it give you some time to get the parts aligned you won’t get that with contact adhesive, thanks for the comment, atb John.

Can anyone tell me why the 'V' cuts in the leather aren't done prior to shaping when the excess leather is obvious? What thickness of veg tan was used please? I've tried this method with 3mm thick veg tan but it was almost impossible to shape the corner curves. Thank you.
if you cut them prior to shaping you will probably cut them in the wrong place. As you shape the leather you will see it starting to pucker slightly and thats the area you need to put your V cut or dart as they are known. The darts allow the leather room to stretch (for the want of a better word) into place. Hope this helps Ian
+Albertdog101 Thank you for your reply. I actually gave it a try yesterday and it worked quite well. I find that cutting thick, wet leather isn't easy so I preferred doing it dry. I found it was a lot quicker doing it this way too. There's more than one way to skin a cat I guess. By the way the music on this video is driving me nuts. I just can't get it out of my head!

Ian good luck taking your dry leather out of the last lol Theses guys show you how to do it, its done that way for a reason but if you want to take the time to see how its done then do it your own way thats fine by me, its your time at the end of the day
Dumb question why dry form rather than wet form?
Not a dumb question I just don't show the leather soaking in water, you couldn’t dry form leather into a shape like that, but thanks for the comment, atb John.

I don't like the way you squeezed the glue out of the tube. Your supposed to squeeze it from the bottom. Therefore I am thinking of giving you a thumbs down. But in the end it came out good so therefore I will give you a thumbs up. However the music was aweful. What happened to the "Bubble music"? I liked the bubble music!
