    Probably 1 of the most peaceful things Ive done in the last month at least. Love learning how to make things. Learning this work in hopes that it may be applied to a boat I plan to build but am bow seeing limitless applications. Always a joy to witness true talent. Notice not a single word need be spoken...

    A beautiful bag, the only thing I would change, the Chicago screws will be the same color as the lock, and the antique bronze color, here you have two colors, nickel with gold ... but it's just my option

    Nicely done. I use hair Fan with heat all the time, when I use that wax you used. Recently made spyderco case and easy to mold with knife, but like this bag need those molding stuffs. Thanks for nice video

    I literally love leather crafting. I'm just not physically able any longer. I have everything to get going...tools, material, just everything and need to sell. It's just going to sit here till I die and I'd rather see it all go to a good home...

    what is the product you used before brushing the leather. one of my learning curve issues is the steps to applying the numerous products after the build

    • @Brummiejohn200
      @Brummiejohn200  7 років тому +1

      If the product is going to be outside I finish the leather first with a couple of coats of Neatsfoot oil that adds oil back into the leather because after dying the leather gets very dry, then I use a product called Snow-Proof, apply it with a rag and rub it in then use a hair dryer to melt it and buff it with a brush this makes sure it gets into the pores of the leather, this protects the leather from the weather, atb John

  • @quincy2283

    Hello. Would you please tell us what name of the the product in the tin you used near the end of the video? I have an old Mexican hand tooled purse that is brittle and I want to nourish the leather. I thought maybe that would work.Thank you.

    • @Brummiejohn200
      @Brummiejohn200  5 років тому

      Hi thanks for the comment, I would use Neatsfoot oil first rub it in with a soft cloth or sponge and allow it to soak in for an hour or so if the leather is very dry give it two good coats this will feed and nourish the leather then any good leather finish with bees wax in it, the product was ( Snow-Proof weatherproofing ) you will get it on Ebay or Amazon hope this helps , atb John

    As a Renaissance Festival attendee (participant, performer, etc.) I have learned to appreciate fine leatherwork. While I seldom can afford it, I do not quibble at the price asked. "I argue not the price of your goods, only the lightness of my purse."

    • @genisay
      @genisay 5 років тому +2

      And that is a fabulous quote too! I feel the same way when I see stuff like this at a Ren-fest and only sigh because my purse isn't heavy enough, but I know for the effort and time put in, not to mention materials, they are asking a fair price.

  • @HyBrithe
    @HyBrithe 3 роки тому +2

    Greetings to you John. First, I want to say that I watched your video nearly 2 years ago and inspired me to start my own leather crafting. So, thank you. Second, I loved the amount of work you put into finishing your pouch but was extremely frustrated that I didn't know what products you were using. Now, I have more experience and I would like to confirm what you were using. If this is your trade secret, I can edit my comment but for anyone else that's new and would like to take up leather working, I think it's important to know.
    So after dying your two pieces it looks like you use all Fiebing's products; @10:22 you started with Tan-Kote, @12:54 you apply Gum Tragacanth to burnish, @13:29 you then finish the edge with Edge-Kote, @13:52 you apply Pure Neatsfoot Oil to all outside surfaces, @14:32 you put on Snow-Proof Weatherproofing, dry, buff, @15:38 you finish with using Carnauba Creme to wax and buff it out one last time. Is this correct?

    • @Brummiejohn200
      @Brummiejohn200  3 роки тому +2

      Hi thanks for your comment every thing you have listed is correct except I now I use " Effax Leder-Balsam " leather balm instead of Snow-Proof I find it better also I have found the Edge-kote is not waterproof so I give the Edge-Kote a coat of Acrylic Resolene to protect it hope this helps and good luck with all your leatherwork, atb john.

And decided they didn't have room on the 62in maple table. And started building, super gluing and painting their guys on my 122in solid oak table! Superglue took the finish right off! Their Dad was right there with them when it happened so....he caught the brunt of it. But, whatta ya do? They can only stay in the dog house for so long. LOL!

    I have a mold 4 cm high and leather 2.5 thick, I followed all your steps, one corner worked fine, the other wrinkled so ugly, and I can't get to the bottom because the wrinkled leather opposes... which should be the distance between the core and the frame? It is better to have a larger distance between pieces or the frame must be as fixed as possible? What do you think it is wrong?

    nice little pouch/bag. 😷👍
    Although I'd need loops for at least a short starter .... guessing from size, outside, and on the inside for an adjustible powder measure, and maybe a couple external ties for a bullet/ball board, and to hang a powder flask from, and a belt loop for a 3 - 3.5 inch kilt belt. 😷
    Would a small, external fur lined pouch with stud closure, to hold 100 to 200 number 10 or 11 percussion caps on the lid, be a viable option?
    Again, a very nice possibles bag. 😷👍

      HonestDoubter ....I’ve gotta find a channel that explains what the hell you are doing. To me you skipped the tutorial and just showed how you make something. It’s like it you wanted to learn how to rebuild the transmission on your car and I just did the work without telling you what I was doing or why. Just in case you give a turd.

    Incredible. What dye(s) did you use? It looks like a darker base layer with a lighter finish on top because of the colour gradient towards the edges.
    Thanks!

      Thanks John. It looks darker around the edges for some reason. Either way, looks incredible.
      I just made my first belt yesterday. My first leather project. Lots of mistakes but I have a functional item at the end of it, so I am looking forward to pressing on and trying more :)

      It is darker around the edges what you do is apply more dye to build up the colour, you can get some good effects using an air brush, I made a lot of mistakes and still make them now that's how we learn good luck with your projects if I can help please drop me an email, atb John.

    Really like your craftmanship, and while don't have plans for making this I admire your ability. Also, I really like your choice of jazz inspired xylophone/marimba music. My mirror neurons are working as I I watch your tutorial. Thanks!

    Absolutely beautiful how much gap do you leave between the mold and clamping board?

    • @Brummiejohn200

      Thanks for the nice comment, the gap is just slightly more than the thickness of the leather hope this helps, atb John
