Heaters are a thing of nightmares! I have this recurring dream that all my fish get fried and its been that way since the beginning of my journey in this hobby. Someone needs to come up with a full proof heater asap!!! Ill pay anything lol

When you had the Inkbird alarm going in the video, I felt a moderate amount of anxiety. No idea why.

The advice of heater redundancy and control was one of the greatest items of advice I ever learned from watching BRS, simply because of how often and how easy it is for a heater to be a failure point. And this video is a fantastic follow up to it, which gives sound advice to any new hobbyist. Nice video.
After years of using glass heaters, I also found a titanium heater with a simple controller (like an ink bird) to be my preferred option in a display tank.
While I use the cobalt neotherms for maintenance and supporting tasks outside the display like quarantine tanks, heating up water change vats, or cycling bare rock in a bin.

Hi.... I have a query regarding Aquael Heater.
I usually set 24⁰C on my Aquael heater but as soon as power goes off, it's temperature increases to 24⁰,25⁰,26⁰,27⁰, etc. when power comes back.....
Why this happening ? Is my heater faulty ??

Ive been using the ultra heaters for years highly recommended great for nano tanks as they fit nicely in the rear chambers. I think the fluval e heaters are really good

Hey Matt! You suggested utilizing two full-power heaters with one as primary and one solely as backup (with or without controller). What are the pros/cons of using two 75% power heaters as primary with an Inkbird as the active thermostat (heater thermostats set above and below Inkbird)?
And another question, is it better to use the heater’s thermostat or the controller’s thermostat to set primary temp (given the thermostat will be the first thing to go out)?
    Thanks for your insight!

Great questions. two 75% heaters will certainly work. The downside there is that if one fails off, the other won't be able to keep your tank at the proper temperature, so you have to be around to swap the failed heater out if/when that failure occurs.
You can use either the heater's thermostat or the controller's thermostat. I would suggest using which ever one is more accurate as the primary control and the other as the backup. This will vary by heater brand.

can you use this cobalt neotherm heater with the inkbird controller? i tried using them together and it wasnt working.. it seems lke the thermostats were bumping heads.. i looked up on cobalts website and htey said to the let heater itself do the driving because its not meant to turn on and off all the time.. if this is the case how wouldi program the heater and inkbird temps ?

Why wasn't the best option 2x titanium heaters + a controller? Did I miss something?

The nice thing about the Aqua EL + a controller is that the Aqua EL heaters also have a thermostat, so between that and the temperature controller, you'll have a layer of redundancy if something goes wrong. Of course, the same goes for the Eheim heater.
