Billy Corgan is a Genius of a Musician. The Band Has 2 of my all time Favorite Albums, "Siamese Dream" and "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness". Both are packed with hit after hit, I think that the Infinite Album should be listened to from start to finish without stop!
Before I met Tool, Smashing Pumpkins were my #1 band. This album was so cool and epic because of its ambition. It was a two disk CD set. I believe it came out in 1995. There is not a bad track on it, and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was played at the opening of the World Series in New York in 2001, after 9/11 happened. As a Pumpkins fan, that touched my heart so much. Please check that song out. It's an instrumental, but so, so beautiful. Edit: Smashing Pumpkins are difficult to categorize. Maybe alternative rock? Experimental? They are all over the board. Their albums Gish and Pices Iscariot are amazing. Then there's their breakthrough album, Siamese Dream. Further edit: James Iha, the lead guitarist for the Pumpkins, is a member of a Perfect Circle with Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer).
A fan since the 90's. Heard this many times. I heard it live 2 days ago in Milwaukee. There's a heat advisory where I am right now. Yet I still got goosebumps during the intro.❤
This group is my oldest son’s favorite band. He has everything they have put out. He listened to them all the time so even though I never listened to them on my own, I absorbed them by osmosis!😂😂
This is what I walked down the aisle to when I married my husband ❤ The video is based on what is widely considered to be the first sci-fi movie ever made (A Trip to the Moon, 1902). It is still a beautiful film in terms of art, but made even more incredible when you really consider how limited filmmakers were with special effects at that time.
I’ve heard more that it’s considered to be the first fantasy film, rather than sci fi, as Edison had filmed an adaptation of Frankenstein before this. It’s hard to say. I’ll say this, though. Voyage dans la Lune is so very far superior to Frankenstein. It might be an unfair comparison, since film was brand new when Edison did Frankenstein, and it did have an innovative special effect for Frankenstein’s creation, where they burned a dummy and played it in reverse. But Méliès pressed the NOS and blew past him.
This album shaped my entire adolescence. When they first released this video, MTV played it literally every 5 videos and you better believe I was sitting there counting down the videos, so I could watch it again, and again. The music video is actually based on a really old victorian film. It's almost identical at times. The Smashing Pumpkins have been my favorite band since I was a child in 93. This album will always be my favorite album of all time. The only album that has even come close to having the same impact on me is OK Computer by Radiohead.
I was exclusively hip hop, punk, and oldies until this double CD came out. It was like a soundtrack to walking through an art museum and I couldn't get enough of it. And all these years later, Billy Corgan and Violent J are working together in a wrestling organization. Life is wild lol
Seriously, listen to their radio releases later. Their most amazing songs are within their albums..those are what sold me on the smashing pumpkins. My personal favourites from their earlier albums Rhinoceros & Window Paine (from the album Gish) Rocket, Soma, Silverfuck (from the Album Siamese Dream) And finally from their album Mellon collie and the infinite sadness ..... Here is no why, To forgive, An ode to no one, Bodies, In the arms of Sleep, Tales of a scorched earth, XYU, thru the eyes of ruby Enjoy
I’ve been lucky enough to see these guys live twice in the past six Mos. This sounds just as amazing if not more LiVe .. I first saw them live n the late 80’s. The powerful driving guitar& drums is addicting AF
"Childlike sense of adventure...belief in yourself." I think you just summarised one of the most central parts of Billy Corgan's lyrics. Sort of the loss of innocence of youth as we become older and more cynical. I think the first time I heard this was probably seeing this video on MTV. It didn't click with me right away as I was too distracted by the goofy video to really get into the music, but got this album on double-disc CD not long after and it has remained one of my favorites ever since.
The artist that designed the video is same guy who designed PeeWee’s Playhouse. He has a documentary called Beauty is Embarrassing. He has an amazing story
They've got one of the best drummers alive today (Jimmy Chamberlin) and the band would not be the same without him. Mellon Collie is the best double album ever, imo.
This video and song won plenty of awards at the MTV Awards in the mid 90s. It also features the voice actors of SpongeBob and Karen who are married in real life.
fun fact: the actor in the video is Spongebob Squarepants. and the woman with him is his wife in real life. they met on a sketch comedy show on HBO in the 90's called Mr. Show.
I've never heard The Smashing Pumpkins sound described as Pop lol. Honestly I've never heard them described as anything except Smashing Pumpkins, very unique imo
When I was a teen I had a cd with sad songs I would listen to whenever I was sad, just to really dig in that sadness (as teens do) and smashing pumpkins and radiohead were almost a third of that cd. Of course this one was there. And the video is still one of my favorite videos ever made. Edit: I've watched a little further into the reaction, I'm at the point where you say "i guess you gotta listen to the lyrics and then correlate it to the video". Sometimes videos correlate to the lyrics and sometimes the band has a cool idea for a video which doesn't necessarily makes sense with the song. As much as I love this video the way the visuals make me feel are totally different from the way the song makes me feel, but I can appreciate both because I knew the song before watching the video. I got to hear the song first without the distraction of the video.
This song and album were a really odd vibe for the era they came out in which is why I think its as popular as it is. There were weird choices being made in the 1990's
This is why I always recommend to play the song without the video first so it doesn’t distract the viewer from the song and lyrics and you can just feel it. Then go back and watch the video.
Dating a woman i loved very much who changed herself constantly and she seemed to feel less love as time went on. As i stayed the same she grew further away. Its definately a thing with certain people and if they cant get you to change who you are, they get more angry and disagreeable to the point of rage. Its tough but be yourself and feel safe in that knowledge of self. Some people get off on altering the path of others and the people that get mean about it dont have any idea what success or love is.
I feel like this video and the Metropolis scenes from the Queen video Radio Gaga have some likenesses-Wonder if that video inspired The Smashing Pumpkins for this.
The video was made to honor Georges Méliès and his (kind of) science fiction movie "Le Voyage dans la Lune (1902) ua-cam.com/video/ZNAHcMMOHE8/v-deo.html
You probably know this already, but the Smashing Pumpkins video is an homage to Gorges Melies "A Trip To The Moon" from 1902. :] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Trip_to_the_Moon#:~:text=A%20Trip%20to%20the%20Moon%20(French%3A%20Le%20voyage%20dans%20la,film%20directed%20by%20Georges%20M%C3%A9li%C3%A8s.
I hate how dumb and detached they've made us (rap is one of their weapons in the great dumbing down of society. Sorry but having rap as representation of a people's greatest art form is shameful. It's like a country who's finest restaurant is McDonald's.i mean Nina Simone died poor and in relative obscurity meanwhile people are loosing their shit over the genius of 50 cent rhyming the word "birthday" with the word..."birthday." BTW 50 cent has made a career out of making people think every male rapper that's not him is a gay servant of the devil. Which goes without saying. I mean gay and Satan are pretty much the same thing..right? Anyways...the moon looks like a cookie. What a great reaction after hearing the epic grandure of this song for the first time. Sorry Billy Corgan, not impressed but loved the silly moon
This video is basically bring back the asthetics of the early 1920s "science fiction" movies this one particulary features the likeness of this movie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Trip_to_the_Moon wit hthe moon and the backgrounds.

Siamese Dream is in my top 10 albums ever created ❤
💯🎯
My favorite is Machina I + II. Can’t wait for the reissue that will finally release the 2-disc concept album version as it was originally intended 🍻
The video is an homage to the first sci-fi film "A Trip to the Moon" (1902) by Georges Méliès.

G.e.n.i.u.s.
Its unbelievable how great billy corgan is... im in awe
I heard this song many times before I saw the video. It changed how I listened to it after seeing the video. I saw them in concert, they had energy.

Wow, that's such a unique and beautiful choice for walking down the aisle! Congratulations on your marriage!
@@MugnifyRTS thank you! October 27th will be our 10th wedding anniversary!
Was the song for our first dance at my wedding!!
How beautiful!! ♥️

Mellon Collie is a masterpiece
I like this music video very much too 😊 a visual masterpiece

So much good Smashing Pumpkins. Check out "Cherub Rock", the first track of their perfect Siamese Dream album, and just keep going...
Start with Gish
Fun fact (just in case no one has mentioned it): Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob, and Jill Talley, the voice of Karen, are the couple in the MV!
I like how you yawned, I literally used to use this album to fall asleep to when I was 10 or 11.
Seriously, listen to their radio releases later.

Good God am I jealous!! My intro to them was lollapalooza 93 or 94?

that is a damn good comedy show too, main actor/writers were david cross and bob odenkirk (better call saul). everyone should check it out.
The City by the Lake is Chicago, that's where Billy is from. The lake is Lake Michigan. It's semi-autobiographical
“City by the Lake” is reference to Chi-town(the band is from Chicago).
Love that
Pumpkins got me through hard times
I've never heard The Smashing Pumpkins sound described as Pop lol. Honestly I've never heard them described as anything except Smashing Pumpkins, very unique imo
Love this and it brings me back to 6th grade in 96/97

This is one of my favorite songs.
The video is inspired by a classic early silent movie A Trip to the Moon
It reminds me of "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche
Zero by the smashing pumpkins is EPIC
A person who is spiritually trying to do right.
This song and album were a really odd vibe for the era they came out in which is why I think its as popular as it is. There were weird choices being made in the 1990's
Keep it weird 💜💯
He can really write a love song
I was 21 on my way to a club called Ziggy's in Winston Salem NC riding with friends I've never seen again cause everyone moved away
Winston resident here. I miss the old Ziggy's so much. I spent my teen years there nearly every other weekend.
I just saw them live in Cinci!
90s: More Alanis and Pearl Jam
Nirvana, Chilli Peppers, Nine Inch Nails
Do stand inside your love
Love them all but Siamese Dream is still the best all-around album. Start to finish.
Mellon Collie has more songs I like on it but there is a ton of filler. So I agree with you
This is why I always recommend to play the song without the video first so it doesn’t distract the viewer from the song and lyrics and you can just feel it. Then go back and watch the video.

try the everslating gaze
You stopped it at the best bit
Listen to Gish!
Billy Corgan dated Courtney Love before she married Kurt Cobain from Nirvana, you might say he dodged a bullet by breaking up with her.
A Bullet With Butterfly Wings even...
Check out 1979
There are much better intro songs to this band. Try HUMMER!!!
But fuck that, Spaceboy, Crestfallen. Sorry I'm just excited someone's reacting to SP. 😂
Pon una tu
Que no te condicionen
Si no te apetece...
It's about sex. No PhD required. It's also not even one of their Top 15.
No escuchez una canción condicionado
Sound nothing like green day
Video has no real message, its an echo of silent movies of the early 1900's.
