They could maybe be replaced with totems of death. Which instead of saving you can be used to deal large amounts of withering damage to a non-boss mob.
You can just not have the totem in your inventory it is optional to pick up. Also even without totems villagers trading gives an unlimited source of diamond gear, enchanted books and food trades which is not too difficult to setup

I remember a long time ago, CaptainSparklez made a 15-part Hardcore Minecraft series. In it, he built a house, explored the world, killed the dragon, and hung up his hat. It's stuck with me for how simple and real it was, and even despite the proliferation of insane builds and huge worlds, Hardcore always has meant what it did to me when those videos came out: a simple, heartfelt mode that makes everything more special because of how fleeting it is. Nothing lasts, not even your hardcore world. And there's beauty in that, there really is.

7:40 (no hate) the reason we all got mad and mentioned grian and his life series and hermitcraft is because its very big in the minecraft community (etho is like the favorite minecraft youtuber of your favorite minecraft youtuber and was mentioned in an april fools update and the jelly cat was added because of GTWScar) and you just ignored it completely because you werent familiar with them. Theyre a big part of minecraft smp history, HC is the smp that has been there (counting seasons) the longest and not getting mentioned is pretty bad
Forge labs is a silly guy as well, why is nobody calling out that he doesn't even play on hardcore he just has a mod that gives you hardcore hearts, and there are a lot of cuts in his videos, and he has opened chat once and you could see that he used creative mode, also in a lot of his vids he dies ON screen and then claims it " isn't fair" and responds
Me and my friend talked about how minecraft can basically go on forever, minecraft only dies when creativity dies. It gets boring when YOU decide its boring
Mild correction: LTN started as a Halo UA-camr before going to fortnite. Same with Forge Labs. Both started with Halo. Both moved to minecraft. Both known for minecraft
When I was a kid, I remember reading in a Minecraft magazine, in the section about the myth of Herobrine, that if you survived 100 days in hardcore he would appear in your world, and back then it actually sounded like something hard to do.
Fun fact: In the spanish community, there was a hardcore server called Permadeath with many UA-camrs and Streamers with custome challenges and modifications every once in a while. It kind of blew up.
I'm from the Spanish community and I'm surprised that people haven't done the permadeath formula in the English community, permadeath is a smp but hardcore and it works for streaming and having a lot of players interacting plus that if someone dies is actually sad. The original permadeath was simple smp hardcore but now in the Spanish community we have servers that every week there is a difficulty increase like totems stop working or eneder creppers that teleport etc... And there is a gulac so people can revive in competition, I think the idea could work really well in the English community
I think it's because there's no English content creator who has a big team dedicated to creating huge events like permadeath or minecraft extremo, the only big event I know of is MCC but it doesn't compare to the amount of events and projects we get on the Spanish side.
I’ve never heard of this, but this is such a cool concept! I’m not surprised that this is not a thing in the English community though, most popular creators who would give the server attention and make it fun suck at playing Minecraft and mostly use it as a platform for comedy. Mini games take their place, but even then there’s not that many good English players and they recruit players from other countries haha. I do think it would be enjoyable though, I should find a summary video on one of these servers and try to translate it!
Hardcore is extremely tough, I've been playing the game for 11 years and barely managed to beat once in a Hardcore World, lost hundreds of hours losing my worlds to small mistakes though.
Awesome vid! I started making hardcore modded 100 days because ive played modpacks for as long as i can remember. Personally i always show a series of deaths leading up to the eventual playthrough. Even when i die late into the 100 days i still show the vid. Genuine 100 days is widely appreciated by many people even if you die 50 times xD
7:19 oh hey that's the guy that shows up every once in a while to show his crazy build projects in which he did without farms because he like to make his life harder
pbggameplay's hardcore series was honestly the best cuz it was just a bunch of people who dont really know that much about the game really trying their best to survive
I did like the Hardcore trend originally, so much so I started my own HC world that's gone on for 800+ in game days. Good video about recapping this trend, good production quality. I do think Minecraft content as a whole needs to take a break for a minute since the supply has exceeded the demand, and a correction is coming, but it'll eventually come back as Minecraft always stubbornly does. Gonna make a quick correction about Luke the Notable, he did not get his start with Fortnite (although it catapulted his popularity) but rather Halo content, I remembered his lore videos being really good. Anyway, I liked your video, glad you came into my recommended.
For hardcore there is a glitch to get your world back, step 1: die, step two: click 'Spectate World', Step 3: Click 'Open To Lan', Step 4: Turn 'Allow Cheats' On, Step 5: Open it to lan, step 6: type '/gamemode survival', step 7: download resource pack. no need for backups :)
Minecraft‘s popularity has always developed in waves, another break will clear up the room for another rise and with Minecraft being a sandbox game of this magnitude I don‘t think it‘ll just die out
Yeah but I think the reason why people say baby zombie is Becuase that’s what damaged him the most if the zombie wasn’t there he would have killed the spider.
Hey man, just wanted to say that you’re style of making video’s is incredible awesome because so many people these days are boring, monotone and don’t have personality at all. I really appreciate the jokes here and there! That’s all.
How people feel about Hardcore is like how most feel about Minecraft itself. Fun for maybe like a week straight, gets boring, take a break from it, come back maybe a month later, boom new things for you to watch/do or finish up. It helps if there’s something new being added too like different mods. But fr fr I’ve seen too many videos where it’s just “Modded MC 100 days!” And it’s the same mods or they just do the most boring routine within the 100 days even tho it’s modded
I think people don’t realize how comically easy it is to keep a hardcore world after you die, just hit spectate world and then CHANGE THE GAME MODE… ITS THAT EASY
I don't play hardcore but if I learned anything from philza's death it was 2 things. 1) a shield can go a long way 2) (only applying late game) never enter anywhere mobs can spawn without full armor (swapping out your elytra is better than dying)
Something i really like about your editing style is you make random montages with old “hype” songs that makes it a more unique viewing experience and i just think its funny. Keep it up and be yourself
Wow, this video is just incredible!! I'm currently migrating my content to English, cause my first language is portuguese, and the content that I'll start making in the near future, is hardcore, but I noticed that this niche is a little saturated and out of ideas, so, I got some ideias on how to make it different, idk if will work, but I'm giving my all in this project! ^^
This actually reminded me of Ssundee's hardcore world. He even had special parameters set for the cheats he would do (i.e.: tossing his items into lolava as compensation) and back up worlds prepared for testing certain things out; a good example being the moment that he blew up a pillager tower to make a pillager and totem of undying farms.
I was focusing on my phone while listening to this video on my pc. But your sponsor from a university stole my attention. First off, I'm not an American citizen. But this idea of education institution sponsored a Minecraft video is rather genius! I think this is the first time I saw a video where a university sponsored a video.

The internet is an absolutely massive place, and it’s really neat how differently so many people can experience such a shared game like Minecraft
2:31 Luke started with Halo videos my guy
7:40 (no hate) the reason we all got mad and mentioned grian and his life series and hermitcraft is because its very big in the minecraft community (etho is like the favorite minecraft youtuber of your favorite minecraft youtuber and was mentioned in an april fools update and the jelly cat was added because of GTWScar) and you just ignored it completely because you werent familiar with them. Theyre a big part of minecraft smp history, HC is the smp that has been there (counting seasons) the longest and not getting mentioned is pretty bad

Phil is about to beat his record again
I only watch Philza when it comes to minecraft hard-core. Thank you so much for this video and time put into all the research
I don't get the buzz of watching someone go through grindfest for 40 hours ngl.
Sandiction is a MASSIVE gigachad for not just cheating
Luke TheNotable started as a Halo UA-camr in like 2015.
So did ForgeLabs actually
rasplin is so silly
yoooo princezam. How are you
Princezam no likes?
PrincessWam
Such a goober
Forge labs is a silly guy as well, why is nobody calling out that he doesn't even play on hardcore he just has a mod that gives you hardcore hearts, and there are a lot of cuts in his videos, and he has opened chat once and you could see that he used creative mode, also in a lot of his vids he dies ON screen and then claims it " isn't fair" and responds
Skyboi: I missed out hermitcraft in my last video
also Skyboi: puts Fwip's video before gemimtay or any other hermitcraft member
Me and my friend talked about how minecraft can basically go on forever, minecraft only dies when creativity dies. It gets boring when YOU decide its boring
Mild correction: LTN started as a Halo UA-camr before going to fortnite. Same with Forge Labs. Both started with Halo. Both moved to minecraft. Both known for minecraft
I've been around since 2008 UA-cam and not once have I ever encountered a University sponsorship in a video. Congrats man
how do i end up in the thumbnail and not even mentioned in the video xD

I love how a university sponsor comes outta no where from a Minecraft vid 💀
Hello Anslord 💀
1:11 Mans was getting combo'd GYADAMMMMM
As a long fan of Sandiction, he doesnt get enough recognition for what he does. thank you for recognizing him!
Fwip's hardcore world is like the only series I watch now. He just builds cool stuff
Like Luke himself said "it's not about the builds, it's about the journey"
-Man with an emerald tower to build height
but now its just about the builds
3:39 i think this entire run was meant as a joke
I know the group "Salt Raiders" have done minecraft with that concept before.
Phil as made a world record, but the chatter is also commented in history because he is in the clip as well lol
I've never seen a youtuber with a college sponsorship LMAOOO
My man 🤝
The classic. For like 5 years this series was like my main fixation lmao
It’s funny how so many hardcore UA-camrs just went above lukethenotable, people really have dedication lol
i miss sandiction
Hardcore is basically just competitive minecraft. You compete to see what you can do and how long you can do it without dying
If only he knew about the "hidden" hardcore community that actually is creating something never seen before..
Like what
@@masterop100 yeah, I agree, some examples would help
???? Please elaborate
@@Justin-ul7fh Its a joke about the analysis 🤨
Phil has a new 5 year hardcore world now, it became 5 years literally yesterday🎉
Ngl, unless somebody else had beaten Philza’s record without any totems, then Philza should still hold the record
Love how nearly every song in this video was from pvz lol.
Minecraft‘s popularity has always developed in waves, another break will clear up the room for another rise and with Minecraft being a sandbox game of this magnitude I don‘t think it‘ll just die out
nice pfp
@@RichConnerGMN Thanks!
Luke the notable actually started with halo, not fortnite! I used to watch his videos all the time before he moved to minecraft
1:21 He was killed by the spider not zombie look at the death message
Yeah but I think the reason why people say baby zombie is Becuase that’s what damaged him the most if the zombie wasn’t there he would have killed the spider.
@@Oridnary-Olive yeah
EYYYYYY i made it into the video lmao
Great editing & writing! Love all the little visual gags throughout. Keep up the great work
I think people don’t realize how comically easy it is to keep a hardcore world after you die, just hit spectate world and then CHANGE THE GAME MODE… ITS THAT EASY
I don't play hardcore but if I learned anything from philza's death it was 2 things.
1) a shield can go a long way
2) (only applying late game) never enter anywhere mobs can spawn without full armor (swapping out your elytra is better than dying)
I made that mistake once. I forgot to swap out my elytra when fighting a trial chamber and lost a totem. Not doing that again
Something i really like about your editing style is you make random montages with old “hype” songs that makes it a more unique viewing experience and i just think its funny. Keep it up and be yourself
"Giant netherite factory!" Is bro becoming a Hermit now?
Wow, this video is just incredible!!
I'm currently migrating my content to English, cause my first language is portuguese, and the content that I'll start making in the near future, is hardcore, but I noticed that this niche is a little saturated and out of ideas, so, I got some ideias on how to make it different, idk if will work, but I'm giving my all in this project! ^^
How the hell do you have more subscribers than me?
I don't know why no one talks about wadzee, his series kinda Kick started modern mc hardcore
ikr i dont get it either i was looking for a commment like this
This actually reminded me of Ssundee's hardcore world. He even had special parameters set for the cheats he would do (i.e.: tossing his items into lolava as compensation) and back up worlds prepared for testing certain things out; a good example being the moment that he blew up a pillager tower to make a pillager and totem of undying farms.
I LOVED THAT SERIES
1:04 PHILZA LOOK OUT!!!! AHHH!!!! - technoblade
The alterverseZ music is peak. True fan
I noticed it too what a legend
I was focusing on my phone while listening to this video on my pc. But your sponsor from a university stole my attention. First off, I'm not an American citizen. But this idea of education institution sponsored a Minecraft video is rather genius! I think this is the first time I saw a video where a university sponsored a video.
6:10 I can tell from the sub count your talking about sb737
i really like the editing of this vid!
the outro music was a total banger
I'm definitely going to check out Southern New Hampshire University! Thanks for letting me know about their amazing career options! :)
