I love the seat and the deck . I also think it is very easy to paddle out of all the fishing kayaks I have had . I do not think much of the wheel in the keel because I am not pushing mine down a smooth boat launch .
I have to agree that the backrest is Too Low. I'm 6' 3" at 247 lb so I needed a Yak that was safe, comfortable and easy to use. I bought My 11.5 FF Lure 5 years ago and the first thing I did was modify the seat backrest 3" higher, now it is SO comfortable. The next thing I did was put a 24lb electric motor in the sonar pod as I'm a lazy bastard and only paddle when I have too. Still going strong 5 years later, all year round in good old Oz. Almost the perfect Yak!
Nice honest review. I didn’t use rod leashes either, until I flipped in 40 feet of water and lost three rods along with a weight box and my cellphone. I got two of the rods back by dragging a treble hook, but the leash would have saved me the trouble. Now I use a leash pretty religiously.
I've dumped my Lure 11.5 twice on rivers and both times the front hatch popped open filling the hull when I turned back over. Don't like that front hatch. Other than that, it has been great on lakes and skinny water river floats. I agree with the seat comments. I wish I could trim the seat forward towards the center sometimes.
Hmm...I actually like the lower back on the seat (I own the Field & Stream Shadow Caster 123, which is manufactured for Field & Stream/Dick's Sports by Joy Sports, the parent company of Feelfree, 3 Waters, etc.). A high back seat gets in the way of fishing, paddling, messing with your PFD, etc. The only thing a high back seat seems to be good for is pedal kayaks. My Shadow Caster is a tank as well (93lbs unrigged), but although I've found it not to be quick, once I do get up to speed I'm able to easily maintain that speed with less effort and it tracks straight as an arrow (even though it doesn't have a rudder). I looked long and hard into pedal kayaks (and the Radar was probably at the top of my list), but I ended up just motorizing the Shadow Caster instead. I found pedaling to be a lot more difficult than paddling for me physically, and most importantly I felt like the pedal drive was always in the way of casting, landing fish, getting in and out of the kayak, etc.
Great video as always.. I have had my Lure 10 going on three years now and love it.. But its time to move to a Pedal drive... I will be purchasing a Old town Topwater PDL during the Christmas season this year.. (should be some good deals upcoming) I like the 10 Ft kayaks and she will fit my needs perfectly for next year without breaking the bank..
I am seriously considering both the feelfree lure and the radar but the 13 foot boats. I am going to buy the boat without the drive at first. Which one do you recommend? This will be my first fishing kayak. Could you compare both as a paddle.
The Radar paddles so well. I mean very very well. Lure not so much. Go with the Radar because the steering is better. The drive is better. And if you ever have to paddle it you’ll thank me for it.
Great review man! That wheel in the keel is freakin awesome. More kayaks should have them. The low back support on that chair was the deal breaker for me. I really like the multiple height adjustments though. Hope to see ya out in the water soon.
Why didn't you just get the Overdrive system for your new Lure 11.5 that would of been prob less $$$ plus you could get the battery option down the line?
You lost me when you were banging on the seat. It may not 'work' for you ? But it is lightyears ahead of a huge majority of the standard seats that come with most kayaks, I do agree the seat back just needs to be higher. ( who doesn't have back problems?)
you are soo smart... wow.. yeah kinda know all that - and the over drive system suchs for the retro fit - and the high back seat oh yeah let's spend more money...
I had the feelfree lure 13.5 for 2 years then upgraded it to the overdrive pedals and could never get comfortable. Great kayak for certain people has good features but in the end I’m glad I sold it to someone who enjoys it more than I did. So I could upgrade to a 2019 hobie outback
The Feelfree Gods miss you too. They say come back to your roots...
My roots are actually Ellie. That was my first yak when I was 11. 😂😂
I just sold my lure 11.5 v1 to get a used lure 11.5 v2 with overdrive. Hoping the new one serves we as well as the v1

the seat sucks!!! the seat in my current kayak blows the feel free out of the water - same with a ton of other kayak seats.
Very helpful!

I will learn my lesson one day.. lol
Native has had the wheel built in on the the slayer & Versa Board. I have a one that's about 5 years old.
I dunno man, I love that seat. It makes sense that the radar paddles better due to length.
You heard me complain all day Sunday about my back.. it's probably me.. I personally do not like the seat.

You can buy a tall seat back from feelfree for $69, I added it to my 13.5 and I love it
Dont own the kayak anymore.. but yes I heard about that.
After I bought the native watercraft Slayer propel 13. I do not miss that gravity seat one bit. The high back is best.
Right. That Lure seat is not a selling point anymore.
They very much fixed that with the new high-back gravity seats.
GC Bassin I know. But I’m not buying new stuff for this yak. 😝

they now make a higher seat for the lure, which I'm sure you are aware of.
I don’t. Own this kayak any longer. But yes I am aware.
Great video as always..

it has a really good drive from what I hear
Love the honesty.

I bought the feel free lure 10 this year for the small ponds in my area. Hopefully I wont regret my purchase.🤦♂️
No you won’t. It’s a good boat. Not meant to be paddled far. You’ll be golden.
Have your tried the feelfree moken?
The new one is something I would totally get into - however the older one is a big no.

Heck yeah.

The FF dive is fine. The retrofit steering is an embarrassment.
@@YankeeTankerOutdoors ah ok so you can't also get the steering system that comes out with the peddle drive then.
The only Feelfree that has the 8 ball steering is the Dorado. Doesn’t matter if it’s retro fit or not.
You lost me when you were banging on the seat. It may not 'work' for you ? But it is lightyears ahead of a huge majority of the standard seats that come with most kayaks, I do agree the seat back just needs to be higher. ( who doesn't have back problems?)
I have not owned this kayak for years... but thank you for watching!!!
Did you see they have a seat upgrade now? Good video though.
Yes. But this is my other kayak and I’m not gonna drop money into it.
You can now purchase just the seat back of the the Dorado for like 50$
not4 spending any more money on this boat.. but yeah you I heard that too.. also it is just cheaper to do the DIY one..
@@YankeeTankerOutdoors that's what I ended up doing
Why does the transducer need to be lower????
wont get the proper reading
Did you sell it? I’d buy
sold it awhile ago
That is exactly why i hate this seat
You can put the overdrive system in it so it kinda makes this video pointless oh and on the seat you can buy the high back for that seat
you are soo smart... wow.. yeah kinda know all that - and the over drive system suchs for the retro fit - and the high back seat oh yeah let's spend more money...
