Of course my amazing cousin @Winks wrote the lyrics and sang those beautiful vocals, and my gosh they turned out SO WELL. I came up with and played the piano, and we both worked on the composing of the instrumental. I wanted to leave a second comment both for algorithm purposes and to say this: The ending is genuinely heartbreaking. Dream realizing his own past self would abandon him to, just like everyone else has, and just what his actions have done to others and himself. Looking back at his past self, he realizes just how different he is now. And it's really sad, but a beautiful moment. Top tier.

i've been people calling this dream apologism, but i cant see it. its literally about him facing the monster he's become. never once denies or forgives the bad things hes done, in fact theyre the center of the song? honestly this is really good, definitely hit me in the feels and im not even a fan of sympathetic c!dream. that ending where his past self turned away... This IS C!Dream apologism, it's just that people think being a c!Dream apologist means saying he did nothing wrong. It just has a bad name that makes you think it does due to what people assume a word means.

I believe this is closer to being a sympathizer. Basically it is saying you understand why he did it but you don’t think that his actions are justified.

Back when the term was coined for being a Dream apologist, some people thought 'mmm yea that's gonna cause problems' and it did, so some people decided they were more comfortable using Dream Sympathiser because it doesn't sound like they're excusing Dream's wrongs. Dream Apologists do not excuse Dream's wrongdoing at all. Some do, but that's a small handful. And some act like they do, but don't actually, Cuz they're having fun while also making fun of people who think that that's all that Dream Apologists are.
They're basically the same, some just prefer to use sympathiser because apologist makes people assume that they think the character they are an apologist for has done no wrong, even if they have.
People just misunderstand, and again, this issue was one brought up in the sort of earlier days of Dream Apologists and whatnot. Or smthn.

Hi guys!! :D Since people are misinterpreting the song and animatic, thought I’d clarify that it is simply about dream’s downfall and regret as told from his perspective (which we never see). We intended for this to be an analysis of his character by showing how far he’s gone to the point of no return, where even his old self would be ashamed of him. Hope this cleared things up! :)

I feel like that definitely shows at the end of the animatic when you have even the old Dream turn away from the current Dream. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed obvious that that was your intention. The Dream that was friends with George and Sapnap would hate the person that he is right now and would hate the things he's done. Whereas the current Dream has lost his old self in doing the things he's done and only regrets losing the things he thought were his to keep. He lost the things he took for granted when he was put in prison and was falling further into the dark because of it and falls further still when he looks to his past self for reassurance only to be met with disappointment and fear. lmao sorry that was long anyway, I think both the song and animatic are great keep doing what you're doing!

Also, when you think about it, it can be at least a little unfair. c!Techno literally blew c!Tubbo to pieces (I refuse to believe that Mr. "I can fight four people at once and win and help blow up a country" had no other choice), but that's okay. c!Sapnap killed several pets, but that's okay. c!Punz literally sold for money, but that's okay. c!Quackity manipulated others when c!Tubbo was president to try to gain power, but that's okay. c!Fundy was tortured in a room when they tried to extract information from him, but that's okay. c!Niki and c!Jack conspired to kill c!Tommy, but that's okay. c!Ranboo didn't tell anyone that c!Sam was freaking out when he witnessed the torture chamber for c!Ponk and even laughed with him about it, but that's okay.
And I'm not trying to crucifix the characters for this, it's perfect that they want to forget, but if c!Dream (really) is sorry, wouldn't it be the least hypocritical to try to give him another chance?
Im not really a Dream apologist but still glad to see that people notice how c!Dream isn't a complete monster with no feelings whatsoever. He is human like everyone else and therefore, he has feelings and he can feel pain. The reason why so many people see c!Dream as the villain is because they don't know his point of view since he never streams on the dsmp. Because of this we don't know why he is doing all of this. If we take c!Techno for example, Techno has blown up and spawned a bunch of withers on L'manberg twice and killed lots of people but there are still tons of c!Techno apologists out there. This is because people know that Techno has to deal with the voices in his head and that everyone used him and stuff. But imagine if he didn't stream like Dream. Then ppl would also see him as an evil villain like we see Dream because we wouldn't know why he did what he did. So that's why i think Dream isn't completely evil because we don't know why he has done all that. Who knows, he could have an understandable reason that no one thought about.

You summed up my thoughts perfectly and I honestly hope that we'd be able to see things from Dream's perspective some day. Like his thoughts, why he did he things did and how he feels now. I think it'd be interesting to see and make people see him more than just an emotionless character (like you said).

techno joins the server, techno is immediately recruited by the lmandburg squad to take back their home, whom he proclaims his anarcist ideals to and talks to about it for the entire time they plan and grind for the materials. They nod their heads and humor him until the second of their victory only to publically denounce his views and shame him infront of a crowd, and backstab him by immediately appointing a brand new head of state without even an election. He never lied to them, he was upfront about why he was helping them, what he wanted out of the war, and they pacified him with pretty words and lied to his face, calling him brother. When they got what they wanted from THE BLADE, there was no need for him or his opinions, his feelings, friendship, kinship, none of it anymore, and they tossed him aside. He was betrayed, his anger completely justified, his attack completetly forcean by everyone watching except those living it. Dream saw it, wilbur saw it. And then he left, his house having been ransact he built a new home in the snowfilled north and retired, done with people. He barely contacted phil because lmandburg would be just as soon to backstab phil as they did him if he had any ties to the 'traitor'. And he lived alone, for a long time. He made friends with innocent wilbur, had a cow farm, had dogs. then one day, the butcher army, not caring for the peace that he left them with, not caring for the radio silence, decided to break into philzas house and ransack it, then put him on house arrest for daring to say anything about how fucked up that was. They took philzas compass that lead him to techno and they showed up on his front door step, with barely any time to be warned. He proclaimed he had decided to retire and was done with violence, he chose reason, they chose blood. They pushed him into a courner, they came for him first, so he retaliated. Then, they went low enough to threaten his horse, something he cared about. They locked up his best friend and threatned his horse, so he threw off his armor and walked to his execution. This was no fair trial and they had set out from the start to execute him, no matter how much they saved face proclaiming something about democracy and justice. They proclaimed him a monster infront of the entire server and denounced him for the second time. Still, he didnt chose to fight. Dream created a diversion and he saved himself with a totem of undying, giving him enough time to grab his horse and run, only for quackity to decide that violence was the only answer, not techno, and forced him to fight. He killed quackity with a pickaxe to the teeth because quackity decided that violence was the only solution. A pickaxe. He had to kill quackity with a pickaxe. Phil freed himself with his help, breaking his ankle monitor, and they ran home. Lmandburg had made it clear that he was never going to be safe and that they couldnt coexist. Tommy was exiled, techno found him and decided to give him kindness, even after the betrayal. Voices be damned. Even though tommy stole and tommy was annoying and tommy was a hassle to handle, and dream was even more so, he still gave him kindness. He gave ranboo kindness and allowed him to live on his land, he showed him friendship despite ranboo PARTICIPATING in his attempted execution. Ranboo was armored, ranboo was there to threaten him, and yet techno gave him kindness anyway. He decided to take revenge with tommy because his friend was just as misstreated. He spied with tommy and promised tommy that hed take revenge for them both, even if tommy didnt participate. He decided to wipe out the government for them both, not even just as revenge for their mistreatment either, because as long as lmanburg stood, so did the threat against everything they cared for. Never again. Then, when technoblade had thrown in his entire lot to tommys every whim, promised and executed said promise to fight the world for him, tommy betrayed him again and decided to join back up with tubbo and lmandburg, once again throwing his ideals into the dirt and stomping on them. Because the only thing tommy cared about was himself and what he wanted, never what was right or the people who called him friend. And then tommy and the litteral 30 people surrounding him tried to go for his head after he dared proclaim they had betrayed him and he wouldnt stand for it a second time. Tommy was wearing his helmet and caring his axe and wouldnt return either, either. He ran for his fucking life and that threat and that betrayal is why he came back the next day with the hound army, his only friend, dream, and a fuck ton of withers to level the place. Never again. Even in all this, he still helped ranboo get back his memory book in the confusion, he welcomed niki to his side simply because she heard him, spared tubbos final cannon life, let tommy spout more shit, and convinced erret to step out of the lmandburg side because it wouldnt do him any good, not even to join him. And the he left, after everything was said and done. But now, since it was clear government would always ruin people, with influence from those who changed ideals during doomsday and philza, ghostbur, ranboo, he created the syndicate. Not to burn down any government that dared pop up, because its clear thats not the case with snowchester, or out of pure hatred, or violence, or whatever the voices say, but to protect the people from tyranny that only governments brought. Then recently, the second ranboo, his brother in arms, was put in prison, he went to his rescue. Ranboo, in that moment, was more important than his debt to dream. And sam killed him. Techno even is intent on using dreams favor to him to revive ranboo. Without technos side of all this, the person techno is has always been on display for all to see, hes never hidden it. He will always be a far more justified and far more sympathetic to everyone, expecially in comparison to dream, so probably a very bad comparison. Try quackity, hes a better example of a bad guy that isnt exactly a bad guy that people dont exactly treat like a bad guy.

After dream escaped prison I just can’t believe this. He meant to go in the prison he made it for himself. Everything went to plan for him while he planned how to get out and to start manipulating Sam. He then went out to torment Tommy as soon as he got out. Basically mean8ng he didn’t change at all. He doesn’t care for anyone. He just wants to ensue pain on others
honestly this makes it feel as though Dream may be manipulating himself along with everyone else without even realizing it.

Who knows, maybe the egg will hatch and everyone will deal with a final boss

Its refreshing to see dream portrayed as he is, he isnt a monster, he isnt a god, he is a human, no one is black and white, even if dreams seems nothing but bad from outside, maybe hes more grey from inside. He is foolish sometimes, pridefull, brakeable, fearfull, he can be an ally as much as he can be an enemy, maybe hes the villan, that doesnt mean he doesnt miss friendships, he did horrible things, that doesnt mean he doesnt feel pain. Anyways, the animatic and music are amazing! They are just verry cool!

Low-key, though, he had a right to do all the things he did. L'manberg was built without permission on his land. The peace was made, then cue the railway incident and Tommy claiming Dream stole the discs, when in reality Tommy gave them up willingly for L'manberg. I just think Dream just wants his home and peace back lol. I'm on his side 100% in this

This isn't apologizing for Dream, people who misunderstand this aren't paying enough attention to this.
This song,or rather my interpretation of it, is basically about Dream realizing everything he'd done, from fighting against L'manburg to Killing Tommy.
This is his limbo, being stuck in the prison having to face everything from the beginning to end. He's falling in a world of guilt remorse and anger. He's being forced to face his actions and he's realized how far he got and the cost that made him get there. Because really, Dream is a hero in his own perspective and a villain in others. His story is different and yet its the same as the others. But due to lack of perspective people choose to see him as nothing more than a villain.

i know i late but i think this is just his POV of things bc nobody asked how he felt of why he does the things hes done and he just kinda lost himself and instead of his friends trying to help him through it they saw him as a monster and imprisoned him(just sharing my opinion no hate please)
The thing is Oliver is that dream wanted to be put in prison. As far as I understand the lore, he realised that lmanburg became an evil government. In bad’s stream he sorta confessed to bad what he was doing

The fact that Dream’s past self, the arguably purest form of C!Dream, rejects and leaves his future self is so tragic and pitiful. To think that even your past self, the last small glimmer of naïveté and innocence left in you, would be distraught and disgusted of what you’ve become.

@@ct8670 he left his friends for power. I’m the final disc fight he says something about cutting all ties, so he had to leave his friends so he wouldn’t have any weak spots. The animatic points out that he sometimes misses his friends.

This was absolutely incredible! The lyrics, vocals and animation were top notch, absolutely amazing work!
I really like how it gives a new light to C!Dream of him being lost, weak, broken and out of control in the wake of the abuse from C!Quackity and C!Sam instead of the angry, aggressive and revengeful side that the fandom is more prone to portraying (for good reason, its just refreshing to see another idea).
The animation only helps to further the idea with him falling and constantly turning back to a time when he had control over his future and looking back to the people who gave him strength. Everyone is so used to seeing him as only the evil villain that no one considers that C!Dream might be suffering in some way as well.
(I'm not a C!Dream apologist or rather an apologist for anyone for that matter. It's just interesting to see the comparisons and contradictories in the characters from the Dream SMP and how they're treated by people around them and in the community for similar actions)
All in all, amazing work and I cannot wait to see future projects!
Yeah, I love trying to figure out what c!Dream feels, and why he did the things that he did. I definitely don't apologise for the bad things he did, but then a lot of characters did bad things too. Dream could have been somewhat remorseful after being forced into a situation he wanted to put c!Tommy in, and being able to see how toxic his treatment of Tommy was. Maybe he wanted to apologise, maybe he wanted company from the only person who visited him. But because of his pride, his manipulative habits, his frustrations and just how bad things are between them, he couldn't get that opportunity to fix things. I feel that if he only wanted to prove that the revival book was real, then he could just hold the now alive Tommy to ransom when c!Sam came to check on them in the prison. But he quietly (and somewhat sadly I think) watched Tommy leave. He asked c!Technoblade how Tommy was going, even though he didn't know if they fixed things between them, and told Technoblade that he doesn't want to experience death after what it did to Tommy.

This is so well done.
C!dream, despite being one of the most Popular characters, if often one of the most overlooked and under analysed(lore wise) imo. A lot of people who watch the smp now werent around before his mental deterioration (before wilbur and tommy joined, or b4 early lmanburg era) and so forget that hes only human. He started off as a regular dude with big ideas. He didnt spawn evil or cruel, situation and unfortunate circumstances made him that way, and watching him fall further and further as he grows more desperate to achieve his end goal is so fascinating.
Hes one of the most interesting and complicated characters in the story, thanks for making this and bringing more attenion to that!!

also c!tommy and c!wilbur basically invaded dream smp and ignored all their rules by starting a new country started off by doing drugs, which is wrong. maybe c!dream team was overreacting a bit by starting a war but they just didn't want them to eventually overtake the greater dream smp and take away what was theirs and the builds they worked so hard on. some might say they just wanted control and power over everyone else, but in fact in the earliest days of dsmp lore every drama was resolved peacefully and verbally (ahem l'manberg you thought you were the only place where things were resolved verbally?) in places such as the community house, and at the end of the day they were all besties. Members mostly just minded their own buisness and there was pretty much no government, therefore no tyranny or control freaks. as things started to fall apart and new members joined, dream would now do anything to get that control back, (he was the only one out of the original members who actually care about the early days of the smp, others just realized they could align with other beliefs or just didn't care) which made him seem like a manipulative oddball/freak who didn't seem to have the same goals out of the rest in the dream smp. In fact, maybe even if he didn't reminince about his past emotions and stories and doesn't realize how much he has fallen, he is still a character that deserves more supportors both in the dream smp and the fandom.
I love the ending, it’s so subtle. With no words you understand that Dreams past self would be disappointed at what he became. He destroyed everything that he built with his friends, he wanted to bring peace but only perpetuated the conflict. He became a monster that hurt others more then the leader that brought them together. In a way, he brought them together for the wrong reasons.
Also while his old self turns around and goes away prison Dream is literally onesided and can't move on to anywhere
the way winks sings "fallen" is so beautiful! It's amazing because at first it sounds like someone saying fallen and actually did fall (quickly getting lower/farther away) and then it sorta crescendos into a gorgeous note!

I love the descent in pitch when “fall” or “fallen” is sang, it really represents and shows his despair, both visually and mentally.
the singular line "Fallen" when he's watching Techno disappear is so freaking good
Every villain in the Dream SMP had started out as a good guy, but ended up being a bad guy. That’s why Dream is the main villain, because he was the first.

I really like how you animated Dream's fall. And maybe that's just my way of seeing things, but when I see him fall for the first time, with his mask covering his face, it only seems like he's a unredeemable villain who you feel no compassion for - he's just falling, let him fall. But the last time, when the song reached its peak and you now know he's sorry, hurt and scared - that's when you see a normal person, struggling and terrified, but unable to stop his fall.
Also, that moment with Dream's current and past selves. The Past!Dream turning away and leaving. It's like a sign that Dream will never be the person he used to be, no matter how hard he tries.

as a c!dream enthusiast, holy hell this was so damn good. idk why i cried but you bet i did, especially the part where his friends turn his back against him. that breaks my heart so much. no black nor white exist in the world, you can't see people in color tinted glasses. everyone makes mistakes, and everyone would learn as they grow. this gives me so many goosebumps. i hope people will see this more and understand how much depth there is in c!dream character.
Okay y’all let’s get our terms straight together! Since there seems to be a ton of disputes in the comments
Apologist: believes the character did no wrong and defends all of their actions/says they’re justified.
Sympathizers: believes the character did do wrong but can see where they are coming from/can see the reasoning behind their actions.
Enthusiast: believes the character is irredeemable and that they did do wrong, but likes the character and their writing regardless and believes there is a reason to it all.
Enjoyer: basically the entirety of Technoblade’s chat/hj finds the character appealing and fun but their actions unjustifiable and irredeemable

Actually, it's the other way around. Apologist is someone who argues in defense of something controvertial. Sympathizer is someone who is supportive of the thing.
And in this fandom all those terms mean "fan". Nothing more, nothing less. The vast majority of self proclaimed apologists (for any character) are just people who like the character and dislike them being demonized. This very much includes c!Dream apologists.

Just today I saw someone say "if you call yourself a c!Dream apologist I'm going to assume you excuse everything he did." While most c!Dream apologists call themselves so because they view him as a complex person who did horrible things for sure, but that doesn't mean he's not human still.

I think people forget c!dream wasn’t always like this. He was friends with everyone on the server at some point, even Tommy. I’m glad this animatic touches on that and shows that even though he’s done bad things and is considered “evil” that he still hurts and even he is affected by what he’s done.
The both of you, Halfy Draws and Winks, are both very talented artists.
How does it feel to be so right about c!Dream? Major props to you both for seeing the human inside of him!
Finally, a animation where I can see how Dream truly felt and that isn't depicting him as someone heartless and cruel. It's heart breaking to see how much sad and broken he is.

C!Dream has feelings just like anyone else does, but because we never see his perspective on the dream smp, we can only judge him for his actions, which are often villainous, thus why he often is portrayed that way. And I'm not saying this is a bad thing that we don't see his perspective. I think it makes for a unique character on the dream smp, since we can see literally everyone else's perspectives, it gives people a clear evil character if they want that narratively, and it leaves his internal thoughts and feelings up to interpretation, allowing people to make content like this animation.

I have always felt empathy for the “bad guys” no matter how bad their actions are, if I can feel it, I know that there is a reason for them. I have never once excused C!Dream’s actions, but I chose to make him the one character I could never hate. I feel like there is more to his character, we are just not seeing it. I have had many people hate on me for calling myself a C!Dream apologist, but in reality, I just feel that like any of the other C!Dsmp characters, he deserves empathy, and a chance of forgiveness. You can see in the animatic that even his past self would leave him for what he has become. I feel like if someone had helped him, C!Dream would not have turned out this way.
I like how throughout the animation Dream has his mask on, but we he cries it finally falls off, like for the first time in forever he let himself show something. The first time (headcanoning here) wasn't his choice, Tommy ripped it off, forcing him to reveal himself to survive, but the second time he was the one that chose to show emotion, regardless of if anyone was around to see.
This is so beautiful and emotional, and honestly is making me somewhat hope for a sort of odd redemption-like arc.

Finally!!! Somone doing someting on c!Dream's perspective of things! It's definately a breath of fresh air to see. And it's sad to see how ignored this possible side of the story is or just downright disregarded the possibility that c!Dream, despite everything, is still so incredibly, painfully, human at the end of it all.
It's unfortunate that people are so adamant on demonizing his character that they are missing out on, in some ways, a very tragic story.
The part at the end hit especially hard when past c!Dream turns away because he's ashamed as to what his future self has become. I think it was the best moment of the video if i'm Honest and it was heart-wrenching. Masterful, well done.

Yes, c!Dream’s story is tragic but every tragic thing that happened to him he did to himself. He is morally grey but an incredibly dark shade of grey, he is still an evil person, but a person nonetheless. He’s sad because he lost his friends, he doesn’t regret what he did though, if his friends had the same skewed morals as he did then he wouldn’t be sad. He has never expressed regret for what he did to so many other characters (c!Tommy and c!Tubbo mainly) and I hope he never really does, because at the end of the day him being an evil piece of shit is what makes him so interesting, not every villain needs a redemption arc or anyone to feel bad for them, and I think that’s what makes c!Dream so appealing to so many people

@@mioakem4879 In Greek and Roman tragedies, many heroes were undone because of their own foolish, and often times ironic actions. Think Oedipus, who fulfills his fate precisely by trying to avoid it. While tragedy has come to become more of a synonym to "sad event" than its original context, it's still interesting to look at, especially with the Dream SMP's surprising amount of parallels to classical Greco roman literature and theatre (most evidently around Techno and Tommy's relationship)

Ik I'm literally 3 months late and no one will see this but I just wanted leave a comment to Halfy and Winks for me to say thank you. When I first came to this fandom and knew the lore, I was a Dream Sympathizer. I knew the bad things he's done but I let it go because he did what he thought was right even though it was wrong. Everyone was their own hero in the SMP and I supported Dream in it because I thought he was a hero. When I found this song in my recommended in UA-cam I was grateful. It was him facing what he's become "a villain that he thought of a hero." This song actually made me sad. The beautiful, sad notes Winks sings, the black and white drawings Halfy drew, and the beautiful piano that Halfy performs. As I Dream Sympathizer I found this beautiful and genuinely sad because Dream was facing himself as a villain even though he did what he thought was right like everyone else did. The ending just broke me because it was a powerful picture. Past Dream would be shocked and disappointed in his present self that he would also call a "villain".
Halfy is my Sad-Ist and Winks is my Derikavat. If it weren't for them, I may not be in this fandom at all. So I would like to say thank you for making my experience in the DSMP Fandom and life better. Because of you I was inspired to make my own animations and covers with my friends. I don't know why but all songs and animations of Dream being betrayed or in the prison makes me feel uneasy and sad even when I know it's just a roleplay. It's really beautiful, it really made me shed some tears 😅 ( and no, I am not some emotional 12 years old girl, I am adult, which is why its embarrassing) 😂

Even though I am considered by myself and others a dream apologist this animation really shows the truth behind what and why canon dream has done the things he has. He is human. He has done wrong things, but haven’t we all? People see him as a monster, and demon. But that’s because they don’t dig deaper. This animation truly shows the real Dream and what’s going on. Everything he’s loved has left. He built the server because he wanted to make friends and have a peaceful survival world. I think his character might represent that tiny bit of the real dream that didn’t want this survival world to turn into this. I’m glad I’m not the only one who truly sees this. Thank you for making this animation. It’s beautiful.

*I honestly love how this was portrayed, dream is still a person. He did things he regrets because of what he had to loose, friendships. His villian side is more of a dark obsidian wall, but he lost the people with the diamond pickaxes who could break through it. He knows he can’t return to his old self, and he tries. He misses the trust people had for him, the trust he had for people. He knows the things he done and watching people turn their shoulders to him away, techno reminds him of the thing he doesn’t deserve anymore*

The morale of the story is when u start from the beginning you still have everything but your arrogance gets the better of you and lands u into rumble and dust. Even tho Dream is still a villain, I think that he wasn’t always a bad guy, I think that the time, the pain and many more that we don’t know about made him this way, made him a Pearson that even hishis friends from the very beginning, even his past self is turning his back on, he is scared that even Techno might do that, he is a man trapped in an obsidian box, trapped by the guilt, but there is no going back to his past self…

I love how throughout this animatic you show Dream as not a cruel-hearted, manipulative person, but as a broken person filled with regrets and sadness. It makes me feel more sympathetic towards his character.
I disagree. I think this song shifts the perspective to him looking around. It's not so much he feels bad or that he is a terrible person, but more so he's at the end of his rope. All this reconciliation about himself is borne from the deprivation of everything and it's the only thing that keeps his mind steady.
He still believes in a warped reality but isn't stupid. He remembers a time when things were good and despite ignoring the reality of how it went down, that he's able to recognize the good and the bad shows some level of humanity. A humanity almost everyone has the capacity to exercise, thus, we the audience understand the man behind monster.
I... watching dream basically say to his future self "I hate what we become"... I don't cry, but my heart wants me to.
Watching this for the millionth time, as it should be it’s a masterpiece, I’ve just realised on the bridge of “falling” when Dream takes a step back off the edge it’s like he’s realising he’s done this to himself and this fall is happening due to his own actions and he’s seeing all the damage he’s caused which makes that ending of the earlier dream seeing what he has become even more upsetting
My eyes are watering so forgive any typos, but like, there was so much emotion and symbolism in this. Its MY heart had dropped so many times, the animation works amazingly with the lyrics of the song. I'm really hoping Dream sees this master piece. You both did phenomenally well and I wish that both sides of your pillow is cold. Keep your head high! I love your works

1. This animation is beautifully done and it’s got so many little things that make it so good.
2.While i don’t and won’t agree with dreams actions, i like having him being portrayed as raw and human.
3. I kinda feel sorry for him, because the very people he wanted to protect and be with, like in the beginning turned away from him, leaving him alone.

This animation and the song is PHENOMENAL! Not many people acknowledge that Dream is a person who is trying to do the right thing in the wrong way. You did it in an amazing way- Dream is one of my favorite characters and since he never shares his POV we can never really know what he’s thinking. You portrayed him perfectly
I am not a Dream apologist at ALL, but this video made me sad. Because he’s just a man, sitting in a prison of his own making, and no amount of regret or shame can turn back time and make what he did go away.
Dream is my favorite character of the smp and a lot of people will shout at me for supporting the villain. However, with the smp we only truly see one side of the picture. We don't know dream's history at all. He could be like Ranboo for God's sake . We just don't know. I think that Dream hasn't been dream for a while. We will eventually see the truth and im excited to see people's opinions of him change. For context, I think DreamXD, Tom, the smile Karl sees, George's dreams, Ranboo's hallucinations, Tubbo's messages, Funny's Nightmares are all connected together. The answer is Dream. It has to do with him we just don't know why or how yet.

I've watched this a couple times and while I like the flashbacks, I mainly love the touch at the end with the past Dream walking away from prison Dream. As if the character is imagining what his younger self would react to who he is now, what he has become, and realizing that he doesn't like who he turned out to be. A simple gesture with so much power. Great job on the animatic as a whole and great job to Winks as the singer.
When I first watched this, I was amazed at how well done it was made. But I have two things that I’d like to point out that this video brought to my attention. I first watched this video a year after it was posted, so me along with almost the entire Minecraft community had lost Technoblade (a.k.a Alex) and seen the end of the Dream SMP season 1. In this video, when Dream reaches out to George and Sapnap, as well as reaching out to Techno, it showed that he lost all his friends, two of them turned on him from his actions, while one of them was unable to stop his passing (rest in peace Technoblade, Leganeds never die 😔). The second thing I wanted to point out is how this is pretty much what Dream admitted to Tommy on Tommy’s last stream for season 1, how he wished him could go back to the times before war, before revival, before he lost all his friends…

This is fantastic, absolutely fantastic. I never really thought about Dream's character beyond being a cruel psychopath. But this animatic really dives deep into his character and analyzes how he was controlled by fear and his lust for power. In that quest, he pushed away his only friends and became someone that not even his past self would accept. That is just so freaking poetic and beautiful and ARG now I'm crying T-T

I used to absolutely hate c!Dream, writing his character (in fanfiction) as a villain without much thought. I thought he was irredeemable honestly (ironic since I have family members who've done bad things but are good people). But lately I've started to look under the surface of the "monster". What Dream did was awful (like no seriously what he did to everyone was messed up), I won't deny that, but I don't think that should make him "evil". Personally, I think he just was blinded, consumed by control and greed. I think that he regrets it, at least a little bit. Either that or that maybe someday he actually will regret it.
So like the point of that really long paragraph is that c!Dream isn't actually a monster or demon, just misguided.

Dream's mindset does seem to be driven to revert things to how they were (I used to think it was solely driven from a desire to control, but there's more to it than that I suppose, thanks for pointing that out), but I just hope someone will pull him away from that kind of thinking (especially after prison). :))

What I what more than anything- is for dream to see the error of his ways and try and make amends. He has been punished enough for his crimes.
I hope he can find peace and redemption with the Syndicate, as much wrong as he is done I think they are the most accepting people and the only people that could learn to accept him even after all he has done. Especially Technoblade.
Niki can find someone who also knows what it is like to be abandoned, Ranboo can face his fear and learn more about himself, Philza can help himself by helping someone else, and Technoblade can make another friend that won’t betray him .
I love the theory that dream wil join the sybdicate or be allied with them the most too.
Because yeah, dream didn't really do something bad ( only ranboo) to any of them.
He didn't betray techno even helped him ( exanple butcher army) and with phil and niki he didn't have many interactions.
Onenof these few interactions were doomsday where phil helped and niki burned the l'mantree down.
( you could that he helped wilburs spiral downwards but I like to think that wilbur would have ended maybe not as bad but near that even without dream.)
I kinda guessed that Dream would join the syndicate and live in what I’m gonna call “the Arctic Commune”. Purely because Dream has nowhere else to go when everyone starts to hunt him down, and what better wall to hide behind than the strongest group on the server in terms of strength.
But this post has gotten me interested in the possible archs and dynamics that could form…

redemption is not something you have yo be given the privilege of, it is working to become a better person because you recognize your mistakes.
but- i am NOT saying he has done anything to deserve forgiveness. He has done terrible things, and currently in the stroy he has shown no motive to change and no guilt or remorse for his actions. But if he even does, i will be here to cheer him on.
Technoblade deserves to have another friend that wont betray him, and Dream deserves a chance to try and change for the better.

Dream honestly was never given the chance. What I've noticed (this applies to me in real life too lol) is that people love to make you the bad guy so that their treatment of you seems justified. Quackity being the prime example. What he does is absolutely and if he did that to anyone else he would be jailed for it. But he reasons that dream deserves it. He did bad things so he needs to be treated badly. The guy just wanted to have a nation with all his friends and now no one stands with him. Loneliness will change you especially when you feel abandoned. I am a dream apologist simply because the things that happen to him in this roleplay are very similar to my real life. ( except the prison and torture lol) everyone leaves. So you have look out for yourself and your interests. If they make you the bad guy then show them what that truly means. While also showing them what could've been.

This video really sheds a whole new light on Dream’s character, and I don’t think anyone else has ever dared to do that, but you did such a good job!! I absolutely loved this and it definitely deserved all the attention it got :D
Let me just say, you guys work together as an amazing and talented family. I can see many bits where took inspiration from Alivia's fic and implemented it with Wink's vocals (omg the note during the main verse is so beautiful btw, those kind of notes take time to practice, as someone who used to be in choir). I'm genuinely proud of you guys for this hard work. Sure I may be a year late, but great work can impact many years thereon into the future, and this was definitely one of them.

I can honestly say that this video left me with a few tears streaking down my face and that's not an easy thing to accomplish these days. This video was beautifully done, not only in story but in what it shows so well. I love how Dream was taking the time to really reflect on who he was at the start of the stream. It was so wonderfully portrayed. What made my heart break was when he saw that everyone had abandoned him...even his old self. He doesn't recognize who he is anymore, but he still refuses to change out of stubborn and pride. And maybe...just maybe...it's because he cannot bring himself to believe after everything he's done that people would take him back.
I never thought I'd say this but this video made me hurt for Dream. I'm not excusing his actions, but it gives a different side to things. Well done and beautiful art! Keep it, Halfy!!

Dream had not wanted this. Alone in his cell, leaning against a wall, thinking about his actions and what had come out of them. The purple sap from the obsidian at his back drenched his orange prison coat. His mask lay cracked at his feet.
*Stupid Quackity.* He had stepped on it the last time he had visited for Dream's daily torture.
Dream closed his eyes, listening to the drip of crying obsidian, the ticking of the clock that wasn't there, the bubbling of lava that illuminated his cell, the chirping of birds-
*Wait.*
Dream opened his eyes to a green hillside. Bark from the tree that he leaned against left brown stains on his green hoodie. Down below, a half-finished house seemed to float on top of a crystal clear lake.
Dream stood up, running down the hill and onto a bridge toward the community house, and the two figures that stood before it. Sapnap and George turned toward him, smiling. "C'mon, Dream! Come build with us!" George's voice was faint.
Dream opened his eyes once again. He lay on the hard floor of his prison. The soft sunlight was replaced by hard darkness. He grimaced, his eyes welling up with tears. He picked up his mask, its fragile surface barely holding it together, and pulled it over his face. He was thankful for the smile on it. It hid anything he was feeling from anyone. There was a time when he did not need it, when he could tell anyone and get even the slightest bit of sympathy.
He stood up and faced the lava.
And he ran.
The lava touched his skin and he flinched. The pain hurt so much, so immensely, but he could not scream. He would not. He would not let Sam come into his personal cell.
And he fell into the pool of water that was his responsibility area. And he stood up. And he did it again. And again. And again and again and again, he needed to escape, and soon he would be able to run through the lava, run to the community house, wrap his arms around George and Sapnap-
He was running on a grassy field, in darkness. He had his green sweater back.
"I'm coming!" he shouted.
He stopped just in time to avoid running off the cliff. He looked down at the void below him.
He did not hear the cracking before it was too late.
He was tumbling through darkness. He was scared. So scared. Would this be it? Would this be his last canon life?
He wrapped his arms around his two friends, smiling. They looked at the finished community house. He felt a sense of pride squeeze his heart. He looked at his two friends and grinned.
They were gone. The community house was gone. It's ruins stood before him. The TNT was in his hands. Dream frowned.
He turned and glared at the rest of the server, and placed his hand on Tubbo's shoulder. Tubbo pulled away.
Dream's eyes met Sapnap's, and then Tommy’s, and then Techno's. He smiled. "Got any withers, Techno?" he asked.
Then he was back in obsidian. A large room loomed over him and the others. Tommy and Tubbo grinned behind Sapnap.
Sapnap's eyes looked tired and unforgiving. He clutched an axe in his bandaged hands.
And Dream was once again in prison. He cowered in a corner as Quackity clutched Technoblade's throat, slamming him against a wall. "I HAVE A PICKAXE, AND I'LL PUT IT THROUGH YOUR TEETH, TECHNO!"
Dream reached toward his friend, his only hope. "NO!"
Techno was gone. He wasn't dead- he was just gone.
Dream huddled against the wall again, holding a photo, the only proof he had a life outside these walls that kept him captive. He looked at the picture of him, George, and Sapnap, grinning at the camera. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he sobbed out loud, crying out for his friends.
But it was not meant to be.
And he fell once more.
He landed on his feet. He looked down at a young boy that stood before him.
The boy’s hair was spiky, and his green sweater matched his glowing eyes. He held a mask in their hands.
The boy was him, long ago, in a time he could not remember.
They stared at each other for a moment, and then young Drea, turned hesitantly, walking away.
And Dream was alone once more.

I love the way dreams character can be portrayed in so many different ways. He can be human and empathetic or he can be some eldritch creature, there are so many possibilities. It's really cool!
Oh my god that is just so touching and amazingly done. After the prison, I really thought about what Dream's perspective was and if he felt an ounce of remorse and this just captures it perfectly.
