After five very long months, it's finally completed. This animation is a tribute to Hermitcraft Season 8's final story arc, the moon crashing into the server.
This was my first ever season watching Hermitcraft and I wanted to find a way to honor the memory of it in the best way I know how, animating ALL 26 hermits and their "endings" on the server. For the members who didn't have proper endings to their seasons, I tried my best to include shots that referenced their final videos in some way. I had to take creative liberties with some of them :)

came back after TFC’s passing and i just wanted to say i’m so grateful for hermitcraft and it’s community. i got the same amount of chills as i did the first, and second time immediately after, watching this beautiful animation.
I like the little detail at the end where everyone is logging out and it says “Evil Xisuma left the game”. He may not have been shown in the animation, but he snuck in somehow.
I've watched this several times by now, and somehow never noticed that, that's so cool ahh
Not sure if this was intentional, but Pearl being the right way up during the void escape and everyone else being upsidedown was a cool detail to add to the wrong-way-round-cause-australia thing she has going on.

The design of Grian and Mumbo really makes me wonder if there could ever be a cartoon of the hermits.
Also, I know a lot of people were sad at how short that season was.. but, I mean. There have never really been any Hermitcraft animations quite like this. The shortness of this season really let the hermits experiment and so we were given glorious things like this

As Cleo hugged Joe and ran away to show the sign saying, “Did you get everything you need?” Hurt me. Joe helping the most with Hermits helping Hermits and showing what a good guy he is in the moment struck a chord with me.

Well X is the doomguy from Doom, though for season 8 he did put the axolotl twist on it.
But yeah, back in the day a fair few hermits were pre-existing characters, off the top of my head:
Dmac was Ash (Pokémon)
CubeHamster was Samus Aran (Metroid)
Marriland was Buisel (Pokémon)
I think Monkeyfarm was still a stormtrooper (Star Wars) when he joined season 1.

JUST REALIZED I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO LEAVE A COMMENT ON THIS but goddamn. Rewatching it again and again still feels like a dream. All the hard work you put into this made it so worth the wait dude. The love, care, and passion seeps through every beautifully drawn frame. Character design is chef's kiss as always, the song is perfect, and of course the fluidity of the whole thing ties it all together. It's so cool to be able to have witnessed all the progress you've made and the final result that's been carefully and meticulously handcrafted for it. Absolute banger of a video.

I’m just in shock right now. You’ve actually done it, you’ve finally completed this, and it’s even better than I could ever imagine. Not only is it fully animated and colored, which is a display of outstanding talent and dedication, but you included EVERYBODY in it, and fitted them in with the flow of the event, despite them not having a final episode. This really is a love letter to season 8, and even Hermitcraft as a whole, because my god, there’s just so much here that really shows how big this moment, and this project itself, really was.
The hermits displaying their logging in messages upon appearing for the first time in the animation, at separate points in separate places, yet they all see the same moon in the sky. And then later, when the moon finally hits, you can see all of them logging off at once, it’s such a seemingly small detail, but it does show that yes, the world is destroyed, and they’re all gone within an instant. It’s little things that can be seen as fun background things, but hold a great deal of meaning. Things like the “Did you get everything you needed sign” coming into view as Cleo runs away after hugging Joe, aren’t even at the center focus, but you can notice them and feel the same impact.
And the animations of the hermits themselves are just phenomenal. There’s so much said within little gestures to each other, and you can really tell what the emotions present are based on how you’ve drawn their expressions alone. The body language is fantastic as well, such as Zedaph rolling his eyes at the moon and turning away from it, displaying how he didn’t care about the approaching calamity, seeing it as nonsense. The movement in motion was so quick, and kept the flow running alongside the song’s flow, with quicker parts being shown through quicker moments, and the slower, more relaxed parts having a less intense display of visuals. The creativity present is so apparent too, like how you interpreted Cub’s conspiracy videos, Jevin’s flying machine, Xisuma and Wels’s time in the End, and even the ends for all the hermits who weren’t present in the finale. Including the hermits suspended in the tanks, wearing their season 9 outfits was just an excellent touch as well.
The transitions between the different shots are pictured so well, with different hermits showing parallels between different predicaments (Keralis floating in space shifting over to Ren floating near the ground), or outright connecting to another perspective (did you really have to make my heart hurt so much with that Bdubs and Tango part? I will never recover). And it wasn’t just the movement of the hermits that was so eye-catching, but the backgrounds and framing are astounding. The scale of this event is present with every location, and no matter how many different places you show, the moon is still visible and still in your mind, like this is a planetwide catastrophe. I’m absolutely floored by the camerawork through TFC’s mineshaft, and Boatem falling into the void was an incredible angle to view it from, along with being so fluid.
Ever since I’ve heard you were working on this, I’ve been excited, especially since this was about an event I hold so dearly to my own heart, it being my first Hermitcraft season as well. And after seeing this? My expectations have been blown out of the water. This really just feels like one big hug to watch. This is Hermitcraft season 8. This is the culmination of a beautiful season of events. Chris, this is just outstanding. I hold so much respect for you and your dedication to seeing this project through. Thank you for this gift.

I actually cried watching this and seeing the hermits respond in the comments. These people inspire us in so many ways, and seeing not only a beautiful animation but seeing how the hermits loved it as well was too beautiful to not cry over. I may just be emotional, but what are you gonna do?

@@leafhoppery8817 I was about to cry when the bottom crew went through the bottom hole, The interaction of the boatem crew and how it was displayed with Grian and Mumbo looking at each other and everyone putting on their suits and the detail of them jumping into the bottom hole and having Pearl upside down and with Jellie and them just floating down into the abyss was really something to me…

I started watching hermitcraft at the beggining of season 8 and one of the creators I was really interested in and enjoyed watching was TFC. Even though I didn't know him for a long time it still hits hard. A few weeks ago I discovered his journey to the farlands playlist and thought "Aw man, I really hope he could finish his goal", but sadly not all goals are achieved

I don’t know what to say. I have a nasty habit of writing really long comments but here I’m just speechless. I’ve been watching since Season 4 and I have seen nothing, _nothing,_ in this community as beautiful as this (though the Last Life animatic of Everybody Wants To Rule The World comes a little close.)
The poetic start and end with the slow logins and simultaneous logouts. The artistic interpretations of everyone’s skins, elytras, and escape methods. The voice in the intro actually sounds like Xisuma. This being Gem’s first season and her realization that it’s about to be over. The background art. The way Ren and Doc’s designs/poses so perfectly contrast with each other. The glass flare blocking False and Gem’s eyes. The shot of Jevin casually flying into the moon. The inclusion of EvilX in the logouts. Everyone’s already praised this one but the trip through TFC’s catacombs with all the angles as well as speeding up and slowing down to the guitar.
And the song choice. _The song choice._ A song so happy in tone but sad in message, perfectly mirroring S8’s ending, with nobody really getting a happy ending but everyone smiles through it and takes it in stride nonetheless. And making the lyrics line up with the Hermit’s situations.
“I believe the world is burning” - Cub theorizing about the burning skull
“I can’t remember caring for an hour or so” - Zedaph pretending not to care
“I started running but there’s nowhere to run to” - Cleo running away but the portal is deactivated
“I sat down on the street, took a look at myself” - Bdubs taking satisfaction that he’s the only person left on the ground
“Said ‘where you going, man? You know the world is headed for Hell.’ Say your goodbyes if you’ve got someone you can say goodbye to!” - Bdubs realizing his predicament and sending one last message to Tango
“There’s no one at home” - endings for the Hermits who were absent through the end
“Oh well, I guess we’re gonna find out” - Mumbo and Grian unsure whether the plan will work
The music ramping in intensity as Xisuma descends to the Nether.
And not necessarily portrayed in the animation but many of the Hermit’s final episodes were tours of the world or their bases, reflecting on How Far We’ve Come.
Everything about this. The animation. The cinematography. The backgrounds. All seemingly done by a single person. It’s inspiring.

P.S. thank you for leaving out Mumbo’s spoiler hat in the meeting, I don’t know if I could’ve taken it seriously otherwise.

I just love the tiny little details in some of the Hermits' designs, like how PearlescentMoon has a crescent moon on half of her face, Etho is holding the bells that Kakashi used to train Team 7, Rendog being an actual dog, etc. It's just so lovely rewatching this video multiple times to find more details I've missed :)

Roughly 3 years ago when grain started his first hermitcraft season, season 6 was when I became a fan. and now many years later I am absolutely in love with this community and this server. From the people playing the game to those making beautiful pieces of art like this one. This came into my recomendations today. My first impression was me jawdropping. It looks amaizing. When i saw TFC... I felt it, after him passing away, despite me not knowing him very much, it was touching. Seeing him again, in the place he loved to be, in his strip mines

Words cannot even begin to describe how monumental this feels for the Hermit community. Not only does this animatic solidify and represent an AMAZING surge of community, but it also shows a lot of people just exactly what's going on.
Ive had this playing on a loop for a whole hour and I cannot get over the attention to detail that makes my heart fumble over itself, the first viewing I started crying then I made a mistake to start reading through comments and felt even more overwhelmed with happiness.
Hermitcraft has been a part of my life for years, 'Lets see how far we've come' I look at the comments and just feel so excited that so many people share in excitement with adventure some of us have been on for years. Seeing every Hermit (within the season) and just the amazing scenery describe this story that had us all hanging on the edge of our seats depicted so perfectly made me sniffle.
Theres not been something this massive since the war in 07; and even that was very small when the HermitCommunity felt SO much smaller. Its wonderful to see how much it has grown and how we as members grew up with it, im crying just writing this because its just so brilliant in every single way. The energy behind it, put into it and surrounding it. Happy one year to 08 starters, and happy 10 years of Hermitcraft!

YOU NAILED IT!! I wondered why I felt so emotional and it wasn't just because of how great season 8 was and this fantastic tribute. The lyrics of this song "let's see how far we've come" just pulls you through aaall the hard work these people have put into hermitcraft and teh community we've built. And although I've only watched from season 7, the nostalgia is still overwhelming, so I can't even imagine being a fan for longer
parts i noticed where the words fit the animation pretty well!!
- 0:45 kinda a silly one but cub pointing at the burning skull photo at "burning to the ground"
- 1:08 zedaph not paying attention to/caring about the moon at "i think it turned 10 o'clock but i really dont know / then i cant remember caring for an hour or so"

Rewatching this video really hit me hard. My best friend died just over a month ago, and we were both big fans of hermitcraft. I used to talk to him about all the shenanigans happening, we had so much fun watching this season's finale. He was so hyped for season 10 as well, died a few days before the first episode, so I'm watching it on his behalf. This video, the visual, it's beautiful mate, I think I cracked when I saw TFC going down the mineshaft, all happy. Thanks for this animation mate

The color of one of false’s Shulker boxes is green. The color of boxes that the Hexagon sold.
When zedaph looks down at the world from his ship it’s almost a perfect copy of the real map.
When rendog floats across the lightning contraption into doc’s arm, that’s a reference to how he struggled to place the last hermit head as the mood gravity was too strong for him to fight.
I’m the end card all of the hermits are floating in tubes, just as they were at the end of doc and ren’s videos in which they said the entire season was a simulation.

I absolutely LOVE the art style. Gorgeous. The design for such a buff Xisuma. Like, he kinda looks like a robot, and looks so derpy and cute, like YES.
And the shiny flash across the helmet gives me so much happiness for some reason.
Then the growth of the moon, everything crashing and crumbling, the shocked look in his eyes, and then the quick sprint. Every movement is smooth, natural, animated, and alive. GORGEOUS.
No clue how you managed to get it to look so amazing, but you've done it and you should be VERY VERY proud of yourself, because you deserve all the recognition you're getting. (And as an artist, I know the feeling of being unworthy of attention or feeling like you could've done better, and I don't know your head, but I want you to know that whatever negativity you might ever have is so untrue and biased because this piece is GORGEOUS and I'd love to even make a FRAME this spectacularly.)

And Boatem and their suits. I love the way you've designed the suits. All of them linked up together, just getting on board.
It takes so long to draw one person. I can only imagine the amount of love and effort you put into each frame to get it /just right/.
And in the back of the rocket ship there are some tied up shulkers. Just the little things. So much detail in everything, so that people like me can pause and obsess over the unnecessary.
The fall into the Boatem hole. One after another. Each fall acting a little different from each hermit.
And the color coded helmets. So glad you kept that. So effective even in the void.
Again, the designs in Gem and False's outfits. So lovely.
And the splice between the two sides of their adventures!!! So much fit in such a little time. Double the workload for you, double the epicness for us. And again I love the way False's hair flows. You've got that DOWN.

Holy wow, as someone who gives long comments regularly I’m really impressed. I wish I could’ve captured that much detail and energy in mine.
Also, a tip for any long comments in the future- normally what I do is I write out the comment/essay in Docs or Word or something and then just copy/paste into UA-cam.
And it’s great when commenting on mobile phones cuz when writing the comment UA-cam doesn’t let you pause or restart the video, and with Docs I can switch between apps and focus on one part as much as I want.

I capture way too much detail and spend way too much time on comments, but it makes people happy and it’s kinda like a hobby so I don’t mind too much.
I don"t understand how every aspect of this animation is just so spot on. The animation itself, the character designs, the story telling, the syncing of scenes with the music, the song itself, just EVERYTHING!!! And I loved how you gave every single hermit their time to shine. A lot of people tend to focus on grian, mumbo or scar mainly so to see the other hermits having more screentime is great! I love your part for TFC, the way it looks like youre running through the tunnels was shown so well, especially how it would speed up at the guitar bits. I also can't get over how you animated Joe with the elytra!!! And everything is coloured BEAUTIFULLY! I don't understand how you do it! This whole animation is absolutely amazing and I wish I could express my love for it properly! I can't even begin to imagine how much time and effort this took you. Every time I watch this I notice more and more things. This is just SOSOSO amazing!!! One of the best mcyt animations out there for sure and my all time favourite animation for Hermitcraft

That was such an exhilarating watch, fantastic job with the animation, Chris! All the action shots were done super nice as well but the relatively restful shot of the tunnels at 1:56 is my favourite. I just love the inclusion of this shot because 1. small break time 2. the perspective change at the start of the shot 3.The speed change to the beat of the music. It's sooo good! I love how the prolonged tunnel sequence also creates a story of TFC digging far from the main activity, but still safely escaping doomsday!
That was my favorite part too, when I noticed the way it sped up and the torches looked different to the guitar strums I just went oooooooo but really this whole thing was amazing huh ToT

Some things I didn’t notice in my first 10 watch throughs but that I love:
* The lip sync with Cub at 0:45!!! It’s so good and that line is perfect for his paranoia.
* The subtitles having different colors for different people/groups
* Pearl’s scar - is that from Mumbo’s failed attempt at blowing up the moon killing her?

So I've watched this after season 8 ended with no expectation. And it blew my mind every time (because it was just that good, and I've watched it alot).
I've watched it again after TFC's death and it brought me to tears.
And now after seaon 8 ended a while agos, I watched it again. And it has lost none off its brillance.
There is now way enough people will ever see this - because it's worth so much more. It encupsulates more then just hermitcraft. And I want you to know that you should always be proud off the work you've achieved wit this.

TFC will forever be immortalized, in this and in HermitCraft.
You included TFC perfectly obviously it’s hard to include him into an animation like this as he wasn’t to active during this season and it can be hard to put a story/personality to him
But at the start having the moon big behind him but he’s just more focused on playing the game originally rather than looking what’s going on behind him and then nearer to the end where he was in his enormous mine because we all know he is Mining GOAT. I think you added him in perfectly.
Also everything else was incredible, gave me goosebumps throughout when I noticed the little details you put in
