quitting social media has made me feel like an actual functioning human. Our ancestors built everything we see today without the help of social media. Humans were much more grounded in the past without social media. I have younger cousins, and seeing how all of them have personalities that I’ve seen on tik tok scares the shit out of me.
yeah bro its so scary to see all the ipad kids that you know are going to be severely addicted to social media and the internet when they grow up. i feel like it's only gonna get worse
I'm proud because gen z (I'm in it) is all about social media it's SAD.

Dopamine Enigma Unveiled seriously blew my mind. Learning about dopamine optimization and detox completely changed how I approach productivity and focus. Has anyone else here tried applying these techniques? The section on unlocking peak mental performance was a game-changer for me!
Dude, I'm an 80s kid and we didn't have all the social media we have today. I'm SO HAPPY you did this experiment; young people should be experiencing the world firsthand, not via screen. Also, you're very intelligent; the acumen to realize that you need to focus on something else and realizing where you put your time/energy is applaudable. Great job, kid. I believe you have a bright future.
You're right, sis
Yes, he will. Aamiin
Same born in 83, was a kid in the 80s/90s and i spent a lot of time being lost in my imagination, daydreaming, thinking, creating. I sometimes wonder if kids today even daydream anymore. I think they just reach for their phone anytime they feel 5 sec of boredom now. Definitely not healthy.
@@toddileelee6935yep born in the same year, and was doing what boys did back in the day playing gi Joe and playing outside etc. social media is a curse, and I’ve been off Facebook 2 years now and much better for it lol.
Something I’ve noticed since deleting social media is that people often have negative reactions. They say “oh no why would you do that” and it really shows how social media is the new “norm”.
Frrr my friends always tell me why did you do that and I have to convince them every time how useful is being away from social media
My friends keep asking me to hop on social media. But they also ask me why I’m so successful. It’s bc I spend my time on myself and the world around me

Srsly! I deleted TikTok the other day and posted it to a close friends story because it was to let them know I wouldn’t see their messages, or posts, and got a comment abt how I’m so “brave” and how “they could never!!” Thats sooo discouraging
@@allisongarcia3204actually I would take that as a plus personally, it’s basically telling you that you have more self control and discipline than those people. That’s a good thing!

Doing this along with meditation/ prayer is what really helped me. In Islam, prayer is a form of meditation and getting closer to the one who made us and everything he has created was truly something that propelled this feeling of giddiness and gratefulness for me. Spending time reading the divine book, the Quran, and acting on my true purpose in life feels freeing but also productive as we believe, acknowledging blessings, being kind to yourself and others, is also a form of worship.
I am Christian.. feel same way .. I also meditate and pray in morning and evening instead of the phone or other distractions...
I am not really bound a to religious construct, I do incorporate aspects Abrahamic religions into my spirituality (I was raised christian and am a deep believer of angels) and it truly has transformed me for the better as well! There is something truly wonderful in practicing your faith and using it to propel your willpower to achieve the greatest things you can for yourself and the world around you. There is something so powerful in prayer that connects you closer to the Allah/God/Universe etc. any higher power, but the first step is synonymous with connecting with your authentic self. So happy you are on this path! From one Yasmin to another! Nice to see that variation in other people because it’s not quite common where I live :)
@@lycosidaee how do you incorporate?
Same Sis. Even the call to the prayer 5 times a day is so reassuring and reminds us muslims to take a break from whatever we're doing & to pray to Allah. Praying Salah in congregation gives a sense of coming together, knowing each other, friendship, and reinforcement of the bonds of brotherhood. It also leads to righteousness, piety and it spreads a love for doing good deeds.
''As-salatu khairum minan-nawm'' The prayer is better than sleep.
True! Leaving social media gives us so much time to get closer to Allah.
The best thing i got when taking breaks from ig is that when i enjoy something I actually enjoy it without the need to share it. And i miss that so I’m quitting this time for sure .
I deleted all my social media apps and came across this video a day later. So, it has already been challenging and tempting to re-download those apps. And, I am afraid that once the winter break is over, I know that everyone at school isn't taking the same challenge to sacrifice something they are addicted to, which makes me feel like an outsider. But, I am now glad to see other people who are taking this path to improve themselves not only mentally but hopefully physically and spiritually as well. This will only motivate me to overcome that addiction.
Yeah honestly. Some people are even offended by it because they think you're trying to be "holier than thou." Sorry not sorry, but I feel like my phone is stunting me. So yeah, I'm with you on that.
honestly rechannel the addiction into something productive that you can obsess over like a business, coding project, web development, or whatever it is that you're passionate about- Ive found this to be most helpful in growing my work ethic personally
All your social media apps. How are you on youtube then?
But… your on UA-cam?
I instantly liked this guy. He's the type of person you would want as a friend. Really! Thanks for your video.
100% agree. Not only did I have extreme stress and anxiety over nothing because of social media, but I hated myself SO. MUCH. I only have one account on IG for volunteer stuff and college but when you exert self discipline about this kind of thing, you start not only seeing other people as just that- people, you start awarding that same perspective to yourself. No it didn’t solve everything, but quitting social media has lifted a significant weight off of me.
The way I see it is if I'm not making money off of social media, there's no reason for my life to revolve around it. It's so strange to see how dedicated even just regular people are to posting multiple times a day every single day. And then when I log on, and only when I post, do I suddenly exist to them again. SUCH strange, disconnected times.
I deleted all of my main social medias, including TikTok, at the beginning of this year. I do still like creating content and using Instagram as a messaging platform for school and club group chats, and I don’t think deleting it is necessarily the key to solving issues like social anxiety-it’s about being proactive with your social media usage. I found a video a while ago that said to talk to yourself out loud and set a purpose/ask yourself “why?” any time you check your phone, instead of passively scrolling. Also, unfollowing and not interacting with accounts you compare yourself to or people who aren’t true friends with. Completely changed my mindset, and it’s a healthy and more attainable balance for many.
i quit tiktok 1,5 year ago and other social media like 6 months ago. best decision ive ever made probably. it really destroyed my attention span so now im trying to be able to focus again. but what sucks is that i can now see how other young people around me are being brainwashed. its hard to make friends since most other kids around me have this awful tiktok humor. everytime i said to someone my age that asked me for my social media that i dont have any, they got really weirded out lol. not having social media is great but its the seeing others "destroing" themself what really bothers me. no point of trying to prove them how badly it could be affecting them since that would made me sound stupid. good video and sorry if something doesnt make sense, my english isnt the best.
so you dont quit youtube right?
right you feel left out most of the time but Ive found it as something I can embrace
thanks for sharing this video! earlier today, i hit my limit with twitter. it was just bombarding me with so much negativity that i decided it was time for an indefinite break from social media overall. we're all so much more than what an algorithm decides we should see, and i know i deserve to explore who that is more mindfully. my plan is to focus on writing, making videos, and practicing the skills that i love. we all deserve to spend more time creating our happiness where we can.
The giddy happiness thing is so so true. you're on the bus, smiling, just happy to be on the earth. i get tearful sometimes too
UA-cam is the only thing that can educate people and teach people how to better themselves.
It’s been 4 years since I quit social media it has changed me so much mentally I have less anxiety and I noticed my body is healthier because I always used to be tired
I quit social media for a few months and I feel so much more content and at peace. I'm more productive, I can think clearly, and really focus on my life goals. Before I was distracted, and didn't feel like I had any time to myself. Now it's the total opposite. I really recommend it. You don't have to delete your account just temporarily deactivate it and shift your attention to the present moment, to the people that matter and to yourself. You'll make so much progress. If you don't believe me, try it and see 💫
this makes so much sense why when i was younger i was enjoying life a lot more aside from the constant fighting from my parents and all that, i remember one time i went outside in the morning, it was like 7 am, right before school and i was just enjoying the sun, seeing the bees fly around and collect pollen from the flowers that were growing in my at the time backyard, and just feeling peaceful, that was when i was 6 or 7, i'm 15 now, and i get what you mean by you felt like shit before you quit social media.
GOOD ON YOU. Glad you got out of the ADDICTION. keep at it. Believe me the REAL WORLD is way more beautiful looking at it through YOUR LENS rather than through a 'SCREEN'.
Thanks bro! just broke my phone's lcd and thought life was over until i watched this :DD thanks man.
this really made me think about how i have my eyes on a screen pretty much all the time when i'm not asleep
i did a presentation on social media and phone addiction which got me a really high score but everything i said made sense- those small hits of dopamine we get from social media don't last at all and it's just sad to see how nowadays everyone's always on a device. i quit most social medias but i've probably been a lot more productive now since then, not to mention apps like insta and tiktok decrease your attention span by a LOT. i used to be a really social person but now i'm definitely not, i have more time now to focus on God, school, and working out
thank you for this. Ive been contemplating doing a social media detox, and this is the perfect sign for me to do so.
yo bro, you are very good with making videos. If u start to take UA-cam seriously, you will become very famous in the future. believe me ...
the internet is such a toxic place that makes you someone you otherwise wouldn't be
thank you for opening so many minds with a new perspective.
You helped a lot of people I know inhale a new view. You listen to that voice and took that journey. But it’s only the start of the trip. The world is watching you, return a favor
I've slowly deleted all of my social medias throughout time because of how much time I'd waste on them. I got back on Instagram because I'd always feel "out of the loop" but now I use it in a much healthier way. I'm very selective on who I follow (friends I actually care about and content that's beneficial to me) and I limit how much time I'm on it. And definitely stay away from Instagram reels. It's all about balance.
Yessssss the reels, the TikTok, the UA-cam shorts. I try to stay away from shit that promotes scrolling your life away
Everyone reading this, plz remember that your life isn't unlimited, if you wasted most of your time and life on social media then you couldn't get it back and you wouldn't enjoy your remaining years of life
Thank you for making this video. I will take this into consideration. I have not been 100% happy at all, i have a little bit of social anxiety, and I'm not productive. I will start by deleting social media on my phone (which i use the most) and use my pc less and less. I definitely need this for working out, meditation, business, etc.
I have already quit playing games for one month, and now I want to try quitting social media
I take this as a sign ✨ 🖤 thank you bro!

Here in India it's banned for like 3 years
m slowly trying to get off social media. its hard but im getting there. I was always, ALWAYS stuck on twitter. I grew up on that app and so I feel that I will miss out. but recently something happened within social media and it made me feel really sad and just over twitter and the toxic people. I have the app still but ive logged out off every account possible. I don't go on it at all. so far, its going really well! I still am in the process of letting TikTok go...insta next. I don't use insta only when it comes to texting coworkers. thats besides the point !! its only been 5 days? since ive deleted the main culprit, twitter and ive felt happier and free. I still have a lot improving to do, but ill be taking it easy, little by little. im really excited to start this journey, I am just now warming up and watching this video just makes me look forward to letting go !
i dont really have social media and i love that because it feels so good.
I deleted TikTok and Twitter, IG would be next, and I reformed my Facebook page. All the bias, toxicity, and lie-spreading are included in those apps. It has been 5 months since I deleted, my mental health has become better and more open-minded. I also have been working out after and have lost 45lbs (20kg). The problem I have left is Instagram. Every time I'm on Instagram, I will always see several controversial posts like US maps about races, and their comments are the worst. Some posts spread misinformation and hatred, which makes me wonder about society.
Bro thanks for the vid ! Thank u big time and keep INSPIRING
the only reason that is restricting me from quitting social media is that nowadays people rely on social media a lot, even if I, as an individual do not want to engage in social media, the environment of mine is making it impossible to live without it. School, family, and friends, etc. Social media is my primary source for internships, volunteer work, and competitions in general.
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I could not agree more
This also goes hand in hand with not being opinionated, right or wrong, conservative or liberal, news and reports, this side or that side, if it does not directly affect you or your pursuit towards your goals and values, stop wasting the brain energy on them and walk away.
"Oh I dont watch the news"
"Sorry I dont have socials"
"Who?"
"Dont follow politics sorry bro"

Well this was well timed, I gave up social media for lent today
PLEASE LISTEN AND REALIZE SOCIAL MEDIA IS RUINING ORGANIC HUMAN CONNECTION!!! You are more peaceful and appreciate your time because YOU DO BECOME more productive.
I'm 33 and I feel like people my age have an interesting perspective on this. We didn't experience being adults and spending our formative years without social media, but we also have experienced time without it when we were kids. So we were kind of indoctrinated into it like those after us but we remember a time without like those before us. I try to think back when I was a kid and I'd spend time drawing, reading, out in the yard, and I wonder if I were to quit now what I would even spend my time on.
I feel like social media platforms create this virtual life that enable us to shape what we want others to see and everything in it easily manipulate us. I guess we do tend to forget to live under the sun and experience everything first hand. Times are changing and we should definitely appreciate everthing before it's too late.
We should focus mroe on sending time with our love ones than editing our selfies with them.
I quit Instagram since in my senior year of high school until now (final year in uni). I feel no more fear out of missing out and anxious

definitely the best decision of my life, i’ll hear my friends talk about something silly going on on social media and think thank god i don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. it’s given me more time to focus on myself rather than what other people are doing.
Exactly! its so stressful trying to base your life off what others are doing, the constant oversharing and showing off does alot to mental health. Not only that but the Cliques people get into and the drama and not feeling like your good enough because you arent gettting alot of likes, this is alot of the reason im not on twitter much anymore. i post on instagram ever so often just to share what im doing or something that i want to document. i have facebook to talkl to close friends and update my inner circle on what im doing but thats about it. if you get involved in social media its better to keep your circle small online than to go on trying to get thousands of followers and being the most liked... sorry for the rant but ya ireally love this comment..

This video is straight facts. Being off social media allows you to really see the world and realize what you're dealing with. Though you might get bored sometimes, it's a great moment to reflect on your life and goals. Use that time for good. Workout, study, do homework, pick up new good hobbies, and etc. They won't be a struggle to do once you start blocking yourself from social media.

Yes!!! It made me realize that being in the presence of your own world rather than other people’s, makes you more happier focusing on yourself and family around you 💯
boredom is so good for you, people don't realize that. if you always fill boring moments up with mindless scrolling or watching a video or whatever, you'll hardly ever have time to just think and form your own ideas and start new things.

@@MaxwellRhoe Ever since i quit social media I haven't even felt like going back, you realise how pointless and meaningless it is to the point where you don't even know why you used it in the first place
Social media creates a new reality that doesn’t exist physically, but affects your mental and emotional state. If you’re not careful with curating that reality, it can greatly affect you negatively. It’s not healthy to constantly consume the thoughts and opinions of others at rapid-fire speed. We need time for our own processing. I’m grateful that more people are speaking about this and sharing their experiences. ❤
great way to put it
thats why i use my own judgement and try not to listen people in social media of what others say, its better to figure and experience it urself
beautifully and succintly expressed.
I find you argument valid, but your first sentence is nonsense in relation to the world, your thoughts do not exist physically, it also affects your mental and emotional state.
@@liviu445 my comment was not something up for debate, I was just reflecting on the video. Also, how is something valid, but nonsense? Secondly, all you did was repeat what I said.
Your thoughts do not exist physically, and they affect your mental and emotional state. Social media is full of curated posts meant to convey an image or experience that, most of the time, doesn’t accurately reflect what is actually going on in the person’s life, and it leaves out lots of details.
the main problem with quitting social media is that society usually contrains you into social media. Everything that we do is surrounded by social media. This usually makes me feel even more lonely without the means of social media
I think it is really about splitting your time and working on what is important to you. Doing a detox like this with social media is usually meant for about 2 weeks which will allow you to realize how much time you are spending on social media and to stray away from that dopamine levels you get when you are on those websites. If I were you, I would be thinking about one thing, and that is am I consuming as much content as I put out into the world, in other words are you being productive with your time overall and evenly distributing it with things that are important to you like school and spending time with friends.
Have you read 1984 by George Orwell?, it´s a good representation of reality nowadays and the scariest part is that this was written back in 1949.

That’s why I started reading books, it makes me feel gratified opening a new page to new characters and stories. The anticipation of waiting for a new part to start when you already deep into it. Something that social media has never given me.

It’s been over a year since I deleted social media and I’ve never felt better. I feel more confident. I feel like my relationships with people are much more meaningful. I take more pictures without the thought of them being perfect or not, just capturing a moment is enough. My social skills are through the roof. I’ve tried out activities that I was too afraid to try. I paint, read a bit more, play video games, and now I’m learning to play the guitar. I appreciate my life so much more without comparing it to others. I just feel free and full of life. I’ve literally taken the phrase “Stop and smell the flowers” and made it my life.
Thank you for this ❤️ you’ve perfectly put into words just exactly how I feel after distancing myself from social media too. I realized how I’ve been taking more pictures and videos with the intent of capturing and treasuring the moment, as opposed to trying to get that picture perfect photo for the likes.. it’s been really freeing, and a detox worth doing. Being in the moment is what social media really robs us from.. and I regret the years that I allowed it to control how I feel. The days where I overthink what would people perceive of me to every story/post I share which is why I limit myself to try and explore things that really reflect who I am and what I love. Also started playing the guitar and loved it! Quitting social media during the pandemic was really healing for me. I pray that the generation today distance themselves from it and enjoy life, and stop and smell the flowers too 🤍
I agree, I love my cat but I feel I catch myself taking more pictures of him or like an inside joke moment I would snap a pic...sounds weird to have a picture of a bucket but the backstory to it is meaningful

Same thing here!!!!!

Damn I’m 17 and I also quit 4 months ago. It’s weird being in high school without it but it definitely shows you that a lot of things aren’t as important as they used to be
@Pylo Devote yourself entirely to those hobbies you enjoy. Think about how they'll be far more beneficial to your life in the long run as opposed to mindlessly scrolling through social media posts
I deleted my Instagram, twitter, TikTok at the beginning of 2023. At first I was bombarded with everything I was avoiding by being on social media (more or less when it came to my internet relationships). So I’ve been healing from the depression “social media” had given me and creating routines bc I am bored all the time, it keeps me busy. Once I got past those things I’m starting to pick up hobbies I might be into. It’s been fun learning, taking time out of my day to go to a class, learn a new language, plan for my future. I feel happier, more fulfilled, and grateful for everything!
This is just my experience, if you think it’s dumb/stupid/hypocritical it’s not for you. I just believe that I’m this social media dominated time we live in, it’s a necessity to create healthier relationships with social media.
feeling happier is definitely something that dopamine detox can do to us! i also started 2023 away from social media and made a video about it, can affirm that it was such a good decision

Honestly as I’m approaching one of the most important time of my life as a high school senior, I’m nervous. My mental health is in horrible condition, and my motivation to do things is at 0. This is something that I’m gonna try because I want to better myself and I want to dream of a greater future for myself. Thank you for this video, as I really needed a sign to do something to improve myself. ❤
I am in the same position, but things are getting much better now that I realized that life is much much easier when you learn to love better things and keep yourself from getting distracted by things that will never ever matter.
Who said motivation is important. You just gotta do shit

Dude screw high school man. Let me tell you something. When you graduate there’s one thing that you will realize in the end of high school. All the “likes” all the “followers” all the “drama” all the “clout” you see that everyone is doing guess what, that there, doesn’t mean NOTHING in the real world. Screw high school and move on with your life. You will realize in the end that the whole world is one big giant high school. So just screw it man. Unless you want to promote music, a business, a product, something that gives value then use it to produce more than what you consume. But if it’s for the “influencer” bs mentality don’t even worry about it. You got this, it will get better after high school.
I've never had social media (besides youtube) and I can just sit there and enjoy thinking. It's incredible, and something that apparently not everyone can do. One night I just lay there smiling and looking forward to what life has to offer in the future. What a feeling

We have such a limited in the day so instead of playing video games it’s so much more useful to spend it on something like making UA-cam videos, a hobby, eating right, exercising. And social media makes you care about things that really don’t matter.

I need to share this video with my granddaughter who is on social media the majority of her time. She also suffers from depression and I'm guessing being on social media has contributed to the problem of always trying to impress, or constantly trying to be socially accepted or validated.

I hope she'll do good soon!
Definitely do. I’m 15 and I quit and it helps a lot 🙏
it wont help my sister is the same way, they just dont want help and dont realize how bad their situation is
I figured I'd come back to give a small update. Eventually, all the time spent on social media and on her mobile device caused her to make very poor decisions and she got caught planning to do things with untrustworthy individuals. She truly craved the attention and the wrong guy gave it to her. Thankfully, we were able to spoil whatever plans they had. Granted, the guy retaliated and decided to slash the tires on 3 of our cars. Although it was costly to replace, it was worth it because the guy showed his true colors and she saw how dangerous it was to be involved with such a guy. We eventually took her phone away which was very difficult for her but today, she knows it was for the best. Her life has changed dramatically and she's much happier today. She now realizes just how dangerous the lifestyle she was living being addicted to all of this.
Another huge thing, on top of deleting social media:
Don’t go on your phone before bed and waking up. I used to roll my eyes when my mom would tell me this but a good sleep and an early wake up has helped me so much with motivation and productivity. The hours from 7am-10am are like a productivity wave lol, if you catch it you’ll be set for the day but if you don’t then it’s more likely you’ll get nothing done
I don’t think that I spend as much time on social media compared to for eg the average teen does but there is always room for improvement. It’s 2am on the first day of the new year (happy 2023 everyone 🎉) & the timing of this video could not have been more perfect.Ready to implement new changes.

I’m 18. I did something similar to what you did, a few months ago. I had a massive social media problem. I wasn’t focusing in class and was always on my phone. I’d even be late to school because the first thing I did in the morning was go check Instagram and Snapchat. At one point I became self-aware of these issues and decided to do something about it. I deactivated what accounts I could, logged out of others I couldn’t, and let only my closest friends(and obviously extended family) know where and how to reach out to me. I did that for 5 months and I focused on myself. I had some of the worst grades I’ve gotten in my life and recovered them just in time to get into the main university I had always dreamed of going to on a partial academic scholarship. One of my passions has been, for a long time, in graphic design. I used that time to hone my skills in that craft. I have been going to the gym since I was 13 years old, but when I quit social media, it no longer felt like a bland and mundane chore, but I could finally appreciate the effects it had in bettering me, something I didn’t appreciate as much before. By the time last summer came, I was ready to go back to social media. I wasn’t going to fall back into my old habits. Why? Because that time away from it broke the barrier and misconception that I am dependent on social media. I realized that there was a world outside of a screen and a personality to me outside of a profile. That was the difference, now I was *choosing* to go back into social media, I no longer felt like I was tied or forced into doing it. When I have work in front of me, I know when to put it away. I changed the content I consume. Some of y’all don’t realize how much genuine junk you consume on social media. I took a good look at who I follow, who I interact with, and changed it all to stuff that is valuable to *me* and *my wellbeing*. I leveraged social media to get a comfortable graphic design job doing what I love from my desk while studying now at uni. Social media no longer became a toxic master of my life, now it’s a complimentary addition to it that I leverage and take advantage of for my own benefits, rather than letting it dictate my own lifestyle. Everyone needs to do this at some point, the epiphany you’ll experience when you realize just how in control you truly are over your own life is absolutely worth the months of fighting off desires. You’ll thank yourself for it later on.
Great video, and I’m glad it worked for you too!
