I completely understand where you’re coming from and it’s scary because social media outlets have become “high school” all over again. The moment I deleted my facebook account, I suddenly became invisible and started living a mysterious secret life...no one knew where I was or what adventure I was on. My relationships seem more genuine now. When I got engaged I got to tell all my friends in person. I get to experience life more. While all my friends are trying to capture the moment to post on social media, I get to enjoy the moment instead. I don't know how to explain it, but my moments suddenly became more authentic....they belonged to me.
That's what how we were supposed to live, you know. I don't know what happened to us just social media. Some weird obsession it is. I don't think enough people are realising it yet
I left facebook back when i was in 10th and never went back . It truly opened my eyes to people who genuinely cared about me vs fake friends Hope you find genuine friend 👍🏻
I quit social media about a month ago...realized how alone I truly am. But guess what. It was 100% worth it. I became WAY more productive. Started doing things that I didn’t think I’d ever do. My mind just became more focused on my goals. My confidence BOOSTED in a matter of days. And it just gets better and better as the days go by. I started to see things more clearly and my personality became more vibrant in a way. Social media is millions of people living a fake life. And without it, I was TRULY myself.
Yeah I'm deleting social media to gain more confidence as I was way more confident without social media 2 yrs ago and to become more stronger and attractive
I'm 13 and had a bad intention going into no social media. My thoughts were " I'll leave social media for a few months and in those few months I'll lose weight and glowup. Then when I post again I'll shock everyone." Now without social media I realize I had a toxic mindset and my intentions were bad. Now my goal is to improve myself and have a better mindset without social media.
Thats so sad that you think that at age 13. before social media, 13 year olds were carefree as heck and didnt give a shit about their appearance. Dont ever feel the need to “glow up” like everyone on social media

Can you make a video about controlling procrastination! It's so difficult to work from home. All of the sudden i find myself binging on youtube videos and wasting hours and hours!
I have the same issue sometimes too. What kind of work do you do from home? For me i do video editing so ill usually sit and work for like 3 hours just on the project and i feel like i get more done by turning my phone completely off and then telling myself what time i need to get a part of the project done by at a certain time, and setting a deadline for myself tends to make me actually more productive, but when i feel overwhelmed ill take a little break sometimes and use social media again here and there
Its called being self aware and disciplined. also if you have a tough time getting started, make two short lists. The first list is what it would be like if you did what you are meant to do aka all the great things that would come out of it. The second list is what it would be like if you DIDN'T do what you were meant to do and what would it be like aka all the bad things (feeling like shit, unaccomplished, missing deadlines, failing, being homeless - if you go down the rabbit hole deep enough) This works most of the time as it really helps me put things into perspective
Basically just use a “studio place”. I use the guests room as a type of office to work in my stuff, i design... And no the room doesn’t have anything special, just a little table and a bed. Now for my relax time or breaks i use my own room or living room to watch Netflix or even play videogames. Also, have a schedule. Wake up and work from 9am to 2pm, and set breaks between those hours, at least thats in my case. Hope it helps.
You can download apps on your phone for you to completely be blocked from certain apps. If you have iOS software on your phone I recommend Pops. If you have an android you need to try forest.
I was suffering from depressions anxiety due to bullying. On social media, I would see my bullies living happily after what they’ve done to me. I would see the political shit happening and get frustrated. I would see the riots that angered me. I would see people who I compared myself to. I could never detach myself from my electronic since I was always waiting for a text. I decided to delete all social media, and went back once. Then deleted and made sure not to go back to it again. I didn’t need social media. I was able to detach myself and find my inner peace. Of course there are many problems I still go through, but I’m getting rid of them one at a time. My stress levels are lower, and I have more time to do stuff. Setting my priorities straight allowed me to grow as an individual. I hope it can do the same for you too!

I quit Facebook and Instagram, but now I am addicted to UA-cam, like three hours per day. But I could say that when I was subscribed to Facebook and Instagram I was sad all the time because of all the perfect lifestyle you see in those platforms. Now with UA-cam it’s totally different, I watch science, self improvement, health, books and a lot of interesting channels not just people with their “perfect life”. And of course I am not a native English speaker, so I use UA-cam to practice my skills, so double gain.
I’ve been off social media for about 6 months now and now I feel like a whole new person. It’s helped mentally and actually physically. I rarely watch UA-cam and when I do, it’s limited. In all, it was the best choice I’ve made in a while.
It might sound crazy, but I used my phone for less than an hour today compared to my 6-hour average. I laughed more, was more social, spent time with family, and got more work done. This video will hopefully have a lasting effect on my life. All I can say is thank you.

my only question is, how are you going to keep in touch with people that lives far away from you, or those type of friends where you don't often meet anymore or see them due to different busy schedules (exp: university/high school friends, ex-colleagues)
The best part about Matt is that since he's a minimalist, he never includes anything that he doesn't need to, so I know I don't have to worry abt "wasting time" when I watch his vids.
I’m not using social media for 2.5 years. Only UA-cam and whatApp. Progresses: 1) peace mind . 2) extra time for my mom and dad 3) I got self employed and at the moment having 3 people working for me. 4) learned 1 more language 5) more self esteem 6) finding trustable(real)people around me 7) living in reality 8) most important one: living for myself not for people.! Edited: even I don’t know what’s snapchat or Netflix. But I have plenty of audio books
I guess it happened to everyone, I quit social media 9 months ago but I become addicted to UA-cam . But I don't think it's addiction because I learned so many useful things it's basically educational platform for me at least
Social media does connect people, yet does the complete opposite, as well. In just one minute, thanks to social media, we can find someone that we would have otherwise probably never found. Whether it be someone we want to reconnect with, or someone whom we've never met and met through whatever app/site, but because of distance we probably would have never crossed paths with. You've got to appreciate that aspect of social media, where clearly it's brought people together and even created beautiful relationships. But like anything else in this world, it can be toxic if we use it too much. Moderation is key with anything. Don't spend too much time behind a screen, remember you are a human being who needs to, physically, interact with other human beings and not just text or make a phone call. 💓
I quit social media a little over two years ago. It was so difficult at first and I felt left out. However, the relationships I had grew stronger because friends/family would share pictures of their family/kids with me directly. I had to he intentional with my friends/family and they learned to be more intentional with me. There is no pressure from the outside world anymore. This is the greatest decision I’ve ever made and I encourage everyone to give it a try!
Just go one week without social media and you will realize that you don’t need it and you’re not missing out on anything you will focus more in school and be more productive.
I see the need for constant contact with my phones as a type of addiction that requires my detox SNS. If I spend too much time on my phone, obsessively checking the internet, social media, mail, or messages, it makes my feel bad…these things kind of message releases dopamine into my brains, making me feel not bad, and want more…. But I sure feel better when the person I am with looks at me instead of their phone…❤️💖😘
I deleted Instagram and Snapchat because I have an important exam coming up. Went out with my friends a few times and was so surprised to see how the whole dinner was revolved around just taking photos and not catching up to each others' lives even though we were meeting after 6 months. Kinda makes me want to not download them back altogether
Trumpis God Clearly you did not understand what I said. I never said you could focus on unlimited amount of information at once. I quit social media for a few months now and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. When I had it, I always felt there was a fog in my mind and it prevented me from thinking clearly. I also felt like the days were shorter and I got bored easily when off my phone. Also, my attention span was garbage because of social media. Now, I feel like I can really focus and get things done. And overall, I just FEEL better. There’s no way I’m going back. Do yourself a favor and live in the moment, don’t live to capture one for likes. You’ll enjoy life more that way. At least, that’s been my experience with it.
Hey Matt! 👋 I know chances of you seeing this is incredibly low but I started my UA-cam channel thanks to your inspiration. Thank you so much. Please keep inspiring people. 🙏🙏 I am forever greatful for your content 👊
Quitting social media was one of the best decisions I ever made for my mental health and overall well-being. At first, I was skeptical, fearing I'd miss out or feel disconnected. But stepping away from the constant noise, comparison, and validation-seeking, I found a profound sense of peace and clarity. These my life is filled with genuine connections, meaningful experiences, and uninterrupted focus on personal growth. If you're contemplating a social media detox, I highly encourage you to give it a try. You might be surprised by the positive impact it can have on your life. Trust me, the freedom is life changing.

I stopped using facebook and twitter. But now i'm addicted to UA-cam lol. But i noticed that youtube is much easier to leave by compared to social medias. Thus, whenever i want to stop, i can easily do it without any mind exhaustions. So youtube > social media
The brain tends to replace one addiction with another so you just have to replace it with a positive one like working out or listening to audiobooks etc

I must honestly say that after the pandemic I felt that I need to disconnect from social media and my cell phone for my own mental health, since I had reached the point of feeling the vibration of my cell phone on my body. We live in a world where instant information is causing us a lot of anxiety and emotional instability. In my case, I have reduced the use of networks to a minimum. I don't even have Facebook on my cell phone and I don't download applications for everything. I live real life.

Welcome to life only 15 years ago
@@hmz9841 Yeah man I like the way you think. Let's get out of social media.

Then when I post again I'll shock everyone." Now without social media I realize I had a toxic mindset and my intentions were bad. Now my goal is to improve myself and have a better mindset without social media.

The second list is what it would be like if you DIDN'T do what you were meant to do and what would it be like aka all the bad things (feeling like shit, unaccomplished, missing deadlines, failing, being homeless - if you go down the rabbit hole deep enough)
This works most of the time as it really helps me put things into perspective
@@ibanezbassist7653 I also do video editing 😁

I woulnd't have met my husband if it wasn't for social media.
omggg this comment is so underrated
Salute to you man!

Same here. But does UA-cam count?? Because I'm pretty sure that I'm just switching to UA-cam... Im trying to read books and be more productive and connect with my family. But UA-cam is in the way.
420BlazingItCopsCantCatchMe i do and i don’t. i try to watch like a few blogs here and there and makeup videos but if i’m watching a couple videos it’s for a little distraction (like the try guys or other channels) if not then ones that make want to be productive (:

@@kymmsantizo2710 I started a diary when I stopped using social media and it helped me realize that I'm a materialist person that compares to others all the time. How's it going so far?
while watching this i realised we all really have one life and we’re wasting it on social media

Social media makes me compare myself and my life with others, it can be frustrating. The worst thing is that most of them don't show the reality of their life or themselves, like it's all filters or photoshoots. Even materialistic stuff. Like now it's all for business, or promos for stores etc.

Any Pro tip ?
@@deepakkundu876 Remind yourself why you started. Convince your mind Facebook is shit, and nothing. Really happens on Facebook.
Second, don't go all bizzare deleting everything at once. Deal one thing at a time. Start with Facebook, then snapchat and Instagram.
Third, whenever you want to re-install it, read about benefits of social media detox.
Fourth, remember mental health over every damn thing.
Fomo is stupid. You never really miss anything important.
Fifth, you'll know who your real friends are. And you'll realise most were just social friends Nothing more. So save your energy there is alot to fight for!
True ..thanks :)
you should also quit watching youtube for 30 days and you'll improve your life
Wow
I've been quitting social media since this January. It feels like I'm so free! Thank you for ur challenge Matt!
Well, I quit social media in february, and for me the "feeling good" that you point out is related to anxiety. You stop comparing yourself to others (what they want you to see) and you don't have the rush to look at your phone. Slowly, I became more calm, more caring to others (especially my family) and just felt better about my self. I don't miss it not even for a second, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
i quit around September 2017 and i've had similar results. it's honestly on of the best things i've done for myself

Thanks, Indiana!
The pacing is also just amazing.
I have to use social networks responsibly since I have a family and I want my children to be responsible. also.
I really would love quit my cell phone not just for 30 days, at the moment I can't, but I will.

I was born in 1972 and yes you have missed something. 80s was a good era for sure 👍 but its never too late for making friends, watch less youtube, spend less time on social media ( or no time anymore its better👍) and you will see a great difference
am I the only person who would enjoy sitting alone in a room? I know, sad, but I have social anxiety and I find alone time calming.
I also have social anxiety, and I agree. When I’m alone it’s so much more peaceful, and I’m not stressed as much. Plus I get to think.

It's almost going to be a year since I left all social media platforms and I have realized that it's a slow poison. It consumes your energy little by little on a daily basis. You put a standard for your happiness and dont value the privilege you already have. It also fills the mind with all junk and negativity.
Spending time with my family rather than spending it on social media is one of the best things I have ever done so far in my life.

I’ve been off of social media for 60 days and I feel pretty content. I’m not comparing other people’s achievements to mine. I still often think about where I want to be in the next 5-10 years but I think that comes with being in your 20’s.
Social media will always leave you with the feeling of “not being good enough”, “getting to this point in my life and I’ll be happy” when really life and time is passing you. By the time you realize what’s most important it’ll be too late.
Break the habit now.
I believe in you.
