In 1963, demolition began on the Provincial Hospital and soon after construction began on a new mental health facility.
During the 1960s to late 1990s the hospital was still a regional resource and people came from all over Southwestern Ontario to receive care. It was also during this time that many changes to mental health care were developed, including new therapies, programs and advancement
To say this abandoned Insane Asylum was creepy would be a huge understatement. Every floor, every wing is pitch black, the windows are all boarded up and the only light comes from small air vents that help circulate fresh air throughout.
The tales of the types of procedures performed in this Insane Asylum are shocking, and knowing that this building was in use during some of the darkest days of Psychiatric care just makes your mind wander - and wonder what went on in these halls and rooms.
At the time, the main Physician and Superintendent of this insane asylum thought that he could cure female patients of their mental issues through gynaecological surgery.
It was a widely accepted notion that disease in one part of the body was capable of producing symptoms in a distant region, I’ll let you all figure out the rest!

Exploring A Notorious Abandoned Insane Asylum - Terrible Medical Experiments
For almost 145 years mental health care had been offered on the grounds of the Insane Asylum known as the London Asylum for the Insane.
It began with the opening of the London Asylum for the Insane in 1870 when the location was considered outside London city limits.

The site was home to the London Asylum for the Insane (opened 1870), which was renamed Ontario Hospital London in 1932, then The London Psychiatric Hospital (opened in 1968) and finally renamed: Regional Mental Health Care London in 2001.

Not sure how you made yourself go into an abandoned insane asylum that medical experiments were held in without having a heart attack,
but bravo. Very good job.
haha i can hack it
✔️JinxCast, it’s cool!!!
Can we just talk about how brave he is lmao
For real 😮
I would do this in day… not at night tho, and he’s doing it at day.

I like that there's no dumb paranormal stuff in this video. He just walks around and makes comments about it. Most people stage all this scary stuff because they're in a scary building but you don't and I appreciate that
I can assure you that this place is very haunted the things i have seen and heard in that building over the years will never make you want to sleep
I know you are a grown man but I wish you hadn’t gone into that place alone. It’s so creepy and if I had to stay in one of those tiny rooms I would be crazy too. It looks haunted. I am from Mobile Alabama.
It's in topeka ks I'm from topeka and been inside of that same place very crazy
@@tysonbouton3269 It's in London, Ontario, Canada. I know because I have been in there several times at night. It's incredibly haunted.

Horrible times. Watching this was very interesting, but yes those poor people, and huge YIKES indeed.
I was forced to stay here for 6 months... believe me... this video doesn't give you ENOUGH in-sight... :/ RIP too all we lost at CPRI/RMHC
@@mitchyboy41 late as hell but please elaborate more if you feel comfortable enough to atleast. I'm very curious about the patents and the history behind these "treatments"
This explore left my heart weeping for those poor souls that had been treated in this and many other such asylums. My goodness what lengths man will go to is unbelievable. That dr. as many others had a God complex. Thank you for a very informative video.
"treated"
that magazine at 9:05 is probably around the mid 70s judging by that audi advertisement showing the audi fox and audi 100

It says Time magazine, July 14th 1973 on the bottom of the page .
Am I the only one almost haveing a heart attack everytime he turns to the next corner I guess I'm just paranoid
lol
Nice explore. Im from Western Australia. As a mental health patient myself I feel the pain of those who were guinea pigs and who were put through the brutal treatments these mental patients went through
A late reply, but I feel like we need to appreciate what they went through more. Advanced therapies and such never would have been developed had they not experienced what they did
@@CMC004 yes I agree
So ik this is also a late reply and you don’t have to answer it is kind of an personal question but what was it like? What did they do? We’re they mean to you? So sorry if this offended you or made you uncomfortable that was not my intentions at all. I’m just curious, and again you don’t have to answer. ☺️
@@theeverythingbagel6404 too much to type here but we were abused, treated poorly etc. I got bad gastro and they left me to die occasionally kicking me to see if I was dead. My fellow inmates came to defend me. These days im well medicated and live a semi normal life. Our gov has decided to take peoples meds away twice, killing many people but I fought to get mine back. It almost killed me too.

I really like your videos because you aren’t trying to clickbait us with anything and you’re not planting things to “find”. Just you naturally going through an abandoned building which is what I always look for.
Hey thanks so much

Its amazing how narrow many of the hallways are. I can't imagine maneuvering a troubled patient in such a tight space.
Very interesting. I appreciate being able to compare the current condition with historical pics & your photos from previous visit.
Think you are correct about dumbwaiter.
I feared for your safety seeing all the floor decay.. freak me out.
First thing I noticed was the asbestos wrapped pipes overhead. You should always wear a respirator near that stuff!
I feel so bad for the people that had to go there, I believe that you can fix a person without injecting liquids in there bodies, and torturing them just because there “insane”, I think that you can fix a person just by talking with them, listening to what they have to say.
Well, unfortunately here in the USA, the plan since Ronald Reagan, seems to be to just have the Police shoot them to death on the streets. It's a lot cheaper that way. Reagan figured that we already have the Police on salary and a few bullets only cost a couple of dollars........

If I wasn't mentally unstable, I'd certainly become unstable there being institutionalized in one of the minature patient rooms. Seemed more like jail cells than a hospital room. If those walls had voices, I'd imagine they'd have alot to bring to light, being the patients most certainly didnot have any voice in that place. . I feel for all the patients admitted there. What a horrible way to be forced to exist.
Nice explore. Thank you for sharing.

1 It is disconcerting to see x-ray developing chemicals with tooth molds.
2 bathroom areas without toilet
3 long rooms, with a window on the door, security
4 observation rooms...
5 metal pieces that are attached to a stretcher, to immobilize the legs
6 it was surely a center of terror and never a nursing home.
7 the absence of details in all the rooms is because they had a lot to hide
And that is just remnants from when the place finally closed and had been abandoned for decades. One can only imagine what objects were filled in this place prior to the various psychiatric reforms that took place since its opening in the late 19th century.
As a nurse, I find it hard to believe that they did some of the procedures on these poor mentally ill people. Thanks especially for the history of this facility! Take care from Philadelphia, PA. ☮️❤️
It must be so eerie and creepy going into these places. Sometimes I'm almost expecting someone/something to pop out of the corner of a short or in a room.
So messed up but so interesting at the same time.
Watching from Northern Ontario and so into urban exploration.
Awesome work dude, you have such a binge worthy channel! :D
✔️I love stuff like this to go and check out
Looks like everyone's worst nightmare!!!!
Hi from Alberta. A lot of sadness in those walls - mental health care has a very dark history. Thanks very much for sharing. Stay safe in your explorations!
I've seen the outside of this place for so long and always wondered about the inside, this was by far the best/brightest look inside I've come across!
Moe Sargi and Omar Gosh investigated this place not so long ago, they got the owners permission to be there and got loads of info off them. Check out their UA-cam vlogs. Pretty interesting stuff the history of the place.
How would you not be scared that someone will pop out at you !!??
You should wear a facemask. All that crap hanging from the pipes and crunching under your feet is friable asbestos.
The best exploration channel I've come across so far. Many layered production : as a lover of architecture it was a pleasure to watch such informative (and well lit), camerawork, it was unhurried with lovely overlays that gave extra context. The voiceover was calm and interesting and the soundtrack did not fall into the trap of being over dramatic. I'm going to be watching a lot more. Cheers for the great work.
Wow, that was very interesting and so sad at the same time. My heart breaks for the people that had to go there and for the women that I feel had very unnecessary surgeries performed on them. Thanks so much for sharing this piece of history. Just some concerned advice, please stop going to these creepy places alone. 💙 Watching from Virginia, USA ✌️
This is fascinating your research of the history and treatments is excellent. Very scary looking place, I was on the edge of my seat worrying that you might fall through the floor. Glad you made it out safe. 🙂
Mcdonalds started serving coffee in 1993, so not so long ago. What an awfully depressing hole. Those poor souls. So many orbs too.
Have been in there several times, all at night, trying to capture proof of the afterlife. This place is incredibly haunted.
AT NIGHT? These places probably are the most scariest buildings in Canada. The history of treatment that occurred is heartbreaking. The old Huronia Regional Hospital (Orillia) is another one. Admire you got to see the history, and may be sense the afterlife...🎈
This place is horribly haunted... every night spirits would walk by my room at night... Canada has zero idea what went on behind those walls..
@@mitchyboy41 I'm glad to see you survived. You're correct most people do not have any idea what happened inside most "mental health" hospitals in Canada. There are many people inside those walls that want to be heard, and I (we) are there to listen and assist in any way we can.
@@danadelaplante6797 You are correct. Huronia is also a haunted place. Have been there, but it's my least visited location of them all. Now Gravenhurst is off the charts on paranormal activity. Hopefully, in time I can post all of the evidence that has been captured during our investigations.

Footage is done so super well. Thank you for sharing the history in that building. Crazy dangerous though, one very brave guy big time. Whole video was excellent, getting to see inside. Yet on the flipside it is so sad knowing what humans did to the vulnerable ones inside those walls.🍁
Very interesting thanks for doing this video. I'm from Saratoga, Wyoming I just started to watch your videos today. So far I loved everyone of them. Thank you again for sharing and being so brave

Wow so cool I lived beside this place while I was in school in 2018, had no idea what is was until the military came and started using it for training. There were helicopters, bombs, gunshots and drones everywhere. We couldn’t get near the place without a guard or police stopping us so I’m glad I finally got to see the inside!
Very nice work. Respectful and informative. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
There are only a couple of buildings left on this site now. They have been doing demo work on everything else this year, including the newer admin building at the front of the property. There are huge piles of debris from the demo right near the road.
If this is the place I think it is, I tried going here a few years back. but I couldn't find an entrance. Is this the London Insane Asylum?
The small rooms with windows in the doors were probably there isolation rooms

One of your best- sinister and compelling!🕯
Thank you for using good lighting and steady panning shots. Those patient rooms were smaller than jail cells. Looks like all the patient records are long gone.
Watching your exploration from Nashville, Tennessee. I am glad that mental health treatment has evolved since those asylums brutality and gynecological operations and shock treatments on people who didn't deserve such deranged inhumane punishment. After that it is likely those women and men were likely never able to have a stable healthy outcome. It is sad to think about what their lives were like there. Thanks for your video and history of that building.
That magazine said TIME July 14, 1975 on the bottom of the page, pretty cool.

Who would you need to talk to about taking stuff from places like this? There's so much interesting history in there and it sucks just seeing it left to rot and be forgotten.
