When I was in college I met my future wife. It was 1977 when we met. She worked for Kings Park and lived on the grounds in a staff building. It was an amazing place. I spent many nights there before we finally got an apartment. Those were good times. Many stories to share. 41 years we are still together
I grew up here. This was basically my backyard. They wanted to bulldoze all of the buildings but realized that there was too much asbestos and therefore didn't have the proper budget. So instead, they built a few bike and walking paths around the buildings so people could still enjoy it. They seem to slowly be tearing down the buildings one by one, and I'm not sure what their plan is for the future. EDIT: Back when the hospital was still running, patients would escape every now and then. It is located right across from a school. My history teacher once told a story that a patient found his way into their classroom when he attended school there, and it took the teacher a little bit of time to realize that there was an extra person sitting in the classroom. I don't know how often patients escaped, but due to his deliverance of the story, I'm going to say pretty often.
i was a patient there in 1974 it was a living hell the nurses would hurt the patient and you couldnt do nothing about it.. The movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was pretty accurate.. there's a whole under ground series of hallways that connect some building to each other
I work at this state park, the park cops are not allowed to go into the buildings there cause of the asbestos. There was this one incident where they arrested a kid from a building and he was covered with asbestos, and contaminated the cop car, the cleaning costed over 10,000$. You guys really should all be wearing asbestos mask at all buildings, probably even need to throw your clothes away afterwards since they’ll get contaminated. Seeing these people with zero protection gives me anxiety. Edit: Yes exposure time matters, but there’s a reason why workers who temporary work in asbestos areas need full protection.
Exactly. They need to look up asbestos remediation. Tyvek suits with rubber gloves, boots, goggles. All seams taped, shower when you exit with a guy there in the same attire to put the suits in a trash bag and seal it. Every thing you have came into contact with could have asbestos on it. Including your cars, washer, other clothes, and possibility of exposing your families to it as well. While I enjoy your videos, this makes me cringe thinking about it.
I know asbestos’s is not healthy and is bad for you but you only live once and it is there choice I know personally I would much rather enjoy the life and time that I have here and not alway worrying about what could happen and what can hurt me and what is unhealthy plus exploring old buildings especially this one (which should be classified as a historical building and should be taken care of and turned into a museum or something so that all the history here is not lost) is keeping history alive and I love exploring places like this it’s a view to the past. P.S. When asbestos was first being used for stuff like siding and table tops and such we all thought that is was a great invention and now is bad so in another 50 years it would be interesting to see what stuff were using now will be bad for us then.
Naw. Let the kids wear T-shirts and shorts; totally umprotected. That way these idiot kids with the spray paint will die-off young. And society will be better off.
Generally, you need to be exposed to a lot of respirable sized asbestos fibers over a long period of time to get asbestosis or mesothelioma. It's not going to happen in one day of walking around in this place. Asbestos is 'safe in place' and unless disturbed by drilling, grinding or other type activities that would create asbestos dusts it poses relatively little risk. No doubt there would be some asbestos dusts present through degradation of material but no where near the levels required to cause someone harm (>0.1 fibres per cubic centimeter of air). As someone who has done a LOT of airborne asbestos monitoring, I know what I'm talking about.
My Grandparents, some Aunts and Uncles, and my Mother worked there. I remember dropping off and picking up my Mother for work. She was only 5ft tall and about 100lbs soaking wet, and worked in a ward with mostly teenagers. My father made her quit when she was beaten by a 16 year old patient with a phone reciever.
What year was this thing closed, do you remember? It's hard to imagine this many people with mental disorders locked away from family. Must have been a horrible thing. I can barely remember when as a child I was told my great grandmother was sent to one of these in Tuscaloosa Al ( my family came to the South from Boston in the early teens of the twentieth century) strictly because she couldn't recover from bthe grief of losing my grandfather. Medicine has came a long way.
They didn't have any love for their patients. These places were meant to be like prisons. Unfortunately many of these people were experimented on by criminals masquerading as doctors. Since their family didn't care about them but threw them away to live in these institutions the doctors had living lab rats. If they died, no problem. If they told no one would believe them anyway.
@@kamikazitsunami Uuuhhh they're 'meant' to be cheap. Prisons are cheap as well. CMU and brick were about as cheap as it gets for commercial construction during those times. There was no intent of making them ugly on purpose, it's all a matter of budget. Why do you think public schools are ugly as well? To make kids feel imprisoned?
the history behind this place is even more evil. pre-frontal lobotomies, electroshock therapy, patients being allegedly tortured by staff members, etc.
It's amazing how quickly these buildings deteriorate once they are vacated and left empty. It is almost like the building loses its beating heart and dies.
It's interesting I live near there amd go all the time there's other buildings on the grounds that were in operation till 2012 and are still very intact and have little to no graffiti in them I actually find them creepier than the old dusty crap filled ones.
"iPhones go 4K. How come you're using those?" Of course a kid unironically wearing an Obey shirt is going to compare an iPhone to a kitted SLR. 4K doesn't make a great video. Proper glass, sound, lighting, storytelling, compositioning and editing does.
iPhone 11 Pro video is the closest it’s ever been to SLR quality with the main drawback being apples high compression codec, in blind tests the iPhone does pretty well.
My husbands great Aunt live in the psychiatric hospital for more than 40 years. She use to call once a month on a Sunday. She is also deceased. The graffiti is so disrespectful, for those who suffered there.
Every teenager that lives in suffolk county, long island has been to this place. Great for photo shoots and exploration. I know local bands that take their album pictures here. Last time I went was like 8 years ago at night and got chased out by guards with dogs. Its cool but probably 100k or more exploring teenagers have been to every inch of this place already.
As a former patient there I can assure you it was WAY creepier when it was in operation. Just for starters, my doctor was arrested a few years after my release for being a Nazi war criminal. I devised a way to leave the building for short periods by jamming a door latch that we passed on our way to and from the cafeteria. This was years before camera type security. I saw things and worse yet, HEARD things that were like your worst nightmares. I have no idea what was going on. Shock treatments were common as well as drug experimentation. This experience took me from being a brat ass teenager who never needed for anything to a mental survivalist. And after I was released it wasn't long before the man in me began to emerge with compassion and concern for others and a belief in God. I gave thanks for everything I had and began making amends for the abuse I put my parents through. Now some 50 years later they are long dead and I'm trying to deal with the loss of so many friends and family and am still using the strength I gained by the experience here. If you have a moment give just a short prayer for all who were not so lucky as I .

Just a correction about why asylums have been shut down. In the 1980's the abuse in these facilities started coming out. The physical abuse, sexual abuse, patient on patient violence, patient on medical personnel violence and unexplained deaths. Places like Fairview Training Center in Oregon have videos on UA-cam documenting things that happened.

My girlfriend and I plus a couple other people came here on July 4th. I don't know the number of the building we were on top of but we could see for miles. The whole horizon was filled with fireworks exploding. I've never seen anything like it. I recommend anyone to check it out one year. But the story doesn't end that well. As we're leaving we were walking outside the building and about 100 yards down the road a truck flips his headlights on and hauls ass coming straight for us screaming "get the fuck out of here!" We try to hastily run away and then another truck comes from around the corner this one with a spotlight on the roof shining it in all the brush. We immediately fell to the floor just laying dead still. The truck was about 50 feet away from us. I don't know how he didn't see us. He finally drives off and we run. I don't think I've ever ran that fast. My adrenaline was through the roof. My girlfriend says "I think I cut my foot." She was wearing sandals (worst possible footwear.) We sneak back in the building and we finally inspect her foot. Holy shit there was blood everywhere. A small trail behind her. We finally make our escape to the main road. Get to the hospital and 7 stitches later we were on our way. Needless to say. I'd never forget that night.
Kevin McCallister that's a pretty gnarly story man! Was the person in the truck sone type of security guard or just a random person trying to scare you? Sucks about your girls foot. Take care!
idk why that guy told u theres no view on top of the green ladder in 93. Literally probably the best view there, someone kicked out the boards on the roof and u can see from miles including all of buildings 7,21 and 22.

If only this place wasn't so terribly vandalized and filled with graffiti. Such a shame that beautiful old buildings like this get trashed to pieces. If left intact it would almost be like museum of how the place used to be before abandoned. The aerial drone footage is a really nice addition, really allows you to see how huge the complex is.
If it wasn't so badly damaged, I would think it could make a great museum in memory of the old styles of mental illness treatment. This building has a lot of history and I'm sad to see it fading away.

I remember driving through with my parents on the way to the bluff. I used to see people staring out the windows. Scared the crap out of me. There's a soccer field that we used to play on sometimes for St. Joseph's CYO with that big building towering in the background. Super creepy place.
I remember playing St. Joseph's CYO basketball in the gym here in the late 80's. As my grandfather used to say, most of the "crazy crazies" were gone by then. Only some of the "sorta crazies" were left. Kings Park in a nutshell, folks.
That is a beautiful building, the brick work alone would cost millions today. Too bad it can't be renovated for something useful. Sad to see it rot away.

Glad I was able to see it with my underground group, back in 2001. Wish we had the video capabilities that exist now. We would have been kings. Thanks for helping me relive my early 20's. We had access to the whole building, but had to sneak past guards. Sad to see it's deterioration... It was quite intact when we were there, as it just closed. Most of the equipment you see, was moved around and rearranged. BTW, that place is soooo Haunted. That's LINY for you.... lol
I live here in kings park. I still am in disbelief that this video got over 1 million views in our little town. Great video. This place is amazing on the inside
As huge as that place is, those other people HAD to follow you around. I'm not even there and they annoyed me. They should have gone their own way; hearing them all in the background kinda ruins the suspense and mystery that your videos usually have.
This is incredibly pretentious. I'm not a part of this youtube "clique" so maybe I'm missing something, but he doesn't own rights to explore that building does he? So he wants to be able to profit for free, and get upset at people who are doing the same thing as him?

One time when I went to explore I was at the 3rd floor of the 'Quad' building when I heard consistent loud banging on the first floor stairwell. Sounded like a metal pipe being thrashed against the steel railings over and over by a lunatic. Me and my friend went down to see, and there was nobody there at all just a pipe resting on the floor debris and an extreme drop in temperature. I dont think it was another kid cause it was at 3am, and all other doors that could be used by a prankster to get to that stairwell to fool us were sealed shut besides the one door we used to get to that point. Didn't make any sense, and was the creepiest thing I've experienced.
MyTravelingStar it could've been security trying to flush you guys out by doing creepy shit, idk when you experienced this but from I've seen in the comments they've increased security in the area in recent months. Could've even been a crackhead or tweaker just spazzing the hell out or trying to also scare others out of their smoke spot.

Many asylums were closed in the '80s under Ronald Reagan. It started before his presidency but he cut funding severely, thus asylums were no longer profitable. This contributed largely to the surge of the homeless population. For some people, advances in medication (which then made home care a possibility) became an option ... but not for enough. In many cases, prisons are the new asylums. They care nothing/know nothing about treatment. Most prisons are for-profit institutions, today. They're more than happy to take over where the asylums left off. No matter how you look at this issue, we, as a country, have failed to help those in need. To think that people would have had a (potentially) better life in a place like you're showing ... GOD help us.
Yeah, Ronald Reagan and Pat Brown gov. of California put the final nail in the coffin of most asylums. It's also worth pointing out that even before pharmaceuticals were widely available, many asylum patients needed round-the-clock supervision anyway. I heard a report that 60% of homeless people are mentally ill. We could get rid of a lot of homelessness if we re-opened institutions for mentally ill people. They would probably have a better quality of life, too.
Carson Myers crime would also likely go down, having fewer mentally unstable people on the street with drugs or guns etc The answer is to help these poor people, not lock them away in what boils down to human farms
First, the bulk of the people that lived in these large psychiatric campuses were geriatric patients afflicted with diseases like dementia, alzheimer's or strokes . The care of those completely shifted to local nursing homes, assisted living centers and in home care. If we're limiting the discussion to the care of the mentally ill, JFK is the one that pushed the legislation to close the large psychiatric hospitals and pivot federal funding to community health centers (Community Mental Health Act of 1963). Appellate courts and changes in legislation at the state level around the same time made it much more difficult for people to be committed involuntarily. Advances in psychopharmaceuticals seemingly obviated the demand for long term psychiatric care so little money was spent on maintaining large campuses like Kings Park. They were designed to be more or less self sustaining with able bodied patients providing enough labor and economic activity to not need large tax outlays from the public fisc . With much lower patient population, these places are nonviable. I doubt there are 5,000 non-forensic inpatient beds for long term psychiatric care in the entire United States whereas Kings Park had around 15,000 of those beds alone at its height. Psych hospitals, where they still exist, focus on stabilizing patients and returning them to the community as rapidly as possible. I do agree with you that many of the mentally ill would be better served if those hospitals still existed. There is a spectrum of people that can't manage day to day living activities and need a structured and safe environment like these hospitals provided.
My boys and I broke into this place in the mid 90's. It was the middle of the night and security was constantly patrolling the area. It was pitch dark and scary as hell in there. We ran into a few bums and junkies. Scared the crap out of us!
As a teen, I visited this place at night with some friends. Almost all of us were too afraid to go into the buildings. After being chased away by security, I realized I dropped the face of my stereo (back then we used to take it with us to prevent it from being stolen) and I had to go back the next day to look for it in the grass. I found it. Great memory.
What beautiful buildings, it makes me sad that people do feel the need to vandalize and trash buildings like these, especially those of historical value. Thank you for making these Urbex videos, I watch them everyday, and I enjoy all of them.
amadaa just stayed with my girlfriend and her family in Northport for 10 days and I made absolute sure me and her came and took a small trip inside before I headed back home.
Not sure if anyone has said this, but that noise you were asking about around 16:08 that is our fire departments alert to get to the fire house to go out on a call, usually for when there is a big fire or accident. Nothing to be concerned about! Awesome video, I was recently just there for the first time for a photo walk.. didn't get to explore much of it, just was able to get into one of the buildings, but I am glad I saw this and didn't really miss much. :)
UPDATE: I am unsure if you have been notified by this, but tonight my local news used your footage of Kings Park for a news story about how they're going to tighten up security for Halloween weekend. Shows how awesome this video is out of the others that have been posted!!
16:00 Sounds like an air raid siren test. A lot of communities still test their air raid sirens at a certain time each week. When I was growing up in the 70's they would test them each Saturday, exactly at noon. But I agree, it might be a signal for the volunteer firefighters if it happens at random times.
JimTheSoundman nope its the fire department, lmao our pagers will go off for all alarms but the siren you hear in the video is for any fire calls or motor vehicle accidents then dispatch activates the “general tones” which causes the siren to go off
No joke... I'd rather hear the Darth Vader breathing or for you to put in commentary afterward than one of you get some horrible disease from the junk in these buildings. Better to be safe than in an iron lung or worse.
They have their respirators, But I also think they hand protection (Maybe some leather gloves?)and something other that tennis shoes. I'd hate to see them get injured.
After seeing the effects of electroshock therapy in patients that was punished with it, it upsets me to think that their families were so heartless to let it keep happening. Patients were physically changed after such inhumane treatments, so how can anyone visiting these patients not see what it was doing to them and demand for them to stop?! Smh horrible times...
My Grandmother was a patient at Marlboro in Jersey, she had shock treatment and they gave her Thorazine, she committed suicide a short time later. My mother and I can only survive through the love of Jesus Christ and the cross :)
Driving an ice pick like tool into the eye socket to lobotomize them was far worse than electro shock therapy, it permanently damaged the brain leading to less aggressive beings.
A lot of patients were abandoned by their families or kept isolated. Back then, mental illness was highly regarded as shameful so families usually didn't visit those who were patients. Also, a lot of the treatments they used back then weren't publicly known. Nobody knew what was going on inside these psychiatric facilities until a news reporter pretended to be a patient for several years then came out with the story.
Both of my grandfathers worked here as physical therapists after World War II and both of my parents went to Kings Park High School and started dating after they graduated. My dad said he's always amazed how the state of New York allows this giant monolith to sit there for decades. There's a lot of family memories here.
Maybe this place yeah, but I've encountered a few. One was nasty (although we never saw the person, but heard them from the same floor as he heard us because he kept yelling things like "Who the #5$# is that?" and other things), the other two weren't as bad and mainly thought we were stealing their stuff. With the two that weren't as bad, basically we "agreed" we'd leave eachother alone (my guess is that they deal with urbexers quite a bit). This is also why it's a good idea not to go urbexing by yourself as well. This is also why I make subtle but audible clicking noises when I enter areas... partially so I can see if anyone responds (like a homeless person) or worse, a wild animal.
Appreciate their respect of the property, others they meet and less drama. The history is a plus, the slower pace of the cameras and not showing themselves over the contents of the project. Much more mature, with less vulgar languages.
Update Dec 2019: they are doing a lot of construction in the area now and it was flooded with cops. They came up to us, were cool, but told us we would be arrested if caught past the fences.

It’s actually best to go in during the day. The property is open to the public during the day so cops and public safety usually don’t patrol as much. At dusk, when they start shutting down the state park, the cops usually start showing up
For anyone who’s curious of why there are so many people , it’s because Kings Park is still open to the public . The siren heard @16:00 is the Kings Park fire department responding to a call, in case anyone was wondering. It’s like right across the street from the psych center property. Northport and a few other local departments still use similar sirens as well.
I forget that not every state has tornado sirens. I was confused when they didn’t know what they were and had to remember that they’re not from the Midwest.
0:35 The deinstitutionalization really began by the 1950s. In the 1980s President Reagan cut off federal funding which ultimately led to the closures. Pharmaceuticals played a smaller roll.
As kids we actually found the underground tunnels to this place.. And got into pretty much every abandoned building that was on this property. exploring.. Not vandalizing.. We also explored the location in Brentwood as well..
I grew up near this physicility in the 70's and 80's. This place has always had a ominous quality that surrounds it. Occasionally we would joyride around the campus when it was still in operation. Seen some weird stuff back in the day. The siren @ 15:53 is the noon air raid siren that goes off every day in Suffolk county. The siren is a carry over from the cold war and was annoying. As I recall the siren was also used to alert the volunteer first responders to check in for emergency's such as fires.

11:57 - There's a big mall in Montréal that has a large circular skylight above a section of the food court and someone legit painted "PROM?" on it, meaning that someone had to somehow get onto the roof of the mall to do it xD ... the words still haven't been removed.
I believe there was only one floor. I recall Woolco, Pascal, Simpsons and Steinberg grocery store, but little else, since we moved west when I was quite young. There is a photo in the family photo album with me sitting in front of the Simpsons entrance at about six years old surrounded by a billion dandelions.
Wow, what a change... there is now a Hudson's Bay Company and a Sears occupying the largest department store spaces at opposite ends of the mall, both with three floors. The mall now has two floors and a food court. At one point, there were fountains and a statue of some kind, but those are gone now. I wouldn't think you'd believe how much of the surrounding area got developed around the mall, it's all commercial and industrial space now where farmland once was. I've seen some old photos of the mall, and it looks so different in comparison to what it looks like now.
Explored this by myself one afternoon, it was getting late and I couldn't find my way out in the dark. I stayed in one room for the night till light then legged it.

Asbestos leads to a slow death

Man, it's like they went out of their way to make aslyums as evil as possible. I mean look at that architecture.

Carson Myers crime would also likely go down, having fewer mentally unstable people on the street with drugs or guns etc
The answer is to help these poor people, not lock them away in what boils down to human farms
Yes, but this place has been closed for 100+ years.
GD Distxrded try 1996....

Modern ECT is not nearly as dangerous as it used to be. I have gotten 12 rounds of it. Unfortunately it did not help me either.
Well last time I checked phycopaths kill people so
Both of my grandfathers worked here as physical therapists after World War II and both of my parents went to Kings Park High School and started dating after they graduated. My dad said he's always amazed how the state of New York allows this giant monolith to sit there for decades. There's a lot of family memories here.
Why did the thumbnail look like it was built in Minecraft
Omg it does lmao

You legit have a point
Because that's how perfect the shot was
I clicked on this vid bc I thought it was a minecraft video lol
As someone who has explored this location with friends and who has gotten chased out by a homeless I don’t not recommend coming here
'A homeless' they're people, not animals. You probably got chased out for being annoying.
so you do?
Hello fellow KP native!
@@SausageSideways You sound like you get chased out of a lot of places.

I agree. He’s knowledgeable and shows respect by doing a good amount of research beforehand. I also appreciate the calm tone of voice throughout.
Ur not the only one
Have you watched "Omar Gosh TV" and "The Fam"?
Appreciate their respect of the property, others they meet and less drama. The history is a plus, the slower pace of the cameras and not showing themselves over the contents of the project. Much more mature, with less vulgar languages.
Seeing a gorgeous complex abandoned like this makes me so angry. In a time when housing is so unaffordable.... ugh.
seing buildings vandalised like this makes me angry
mega beep why government. won't give a urea. they should have turned to outpatient
@@davidschomer9655 Fuck you punk.
It's literally just a pile of bricks and asbestos. Not like it's a building worth protecting.
Comparing an iphone to a DSLR .. oooof, maximum cringe right there.
I guess that boy's just ignorant when it comes to cameras. lol.
You can tell hes a virgin.
yeah a lot of kids only understand "more resolution = more quality." I want to slap that kid in the face.
Update Dec 2019: they are doing a lot of construction in the area now and it was flooded with cops. They came up to us, were cool, but told us we would be arrested if caught past the fences.
Is there a day they aren't on patrol?... I know of a building 45 minutes from me that the EPA is clearing out. I am able to sneak in there during the weekends, although. Their days off.
@@zachparker1468 not too sure I live 2 hours away from it so I never decided to go back. The first time we went was on a weekend and didn't see a single cop and got in the buildings fine. The day we got yelled at was on a weekday.
@@zachparker1468 The NYS Parks Police patrol this site. They are there every day of the week, weekends, holidays. You can walk around the grounds but can't pass a fence or blockade and if you get caught in a building you will be arrested for trespassing. My friend is one of the officers that works there.
@@daniellehamilton894 can you get a permit to walk inside the buildings ?
@@lucyoobieoob8678 no. No one is allowed inside. Unless you know one of the police officers that will look the other way like I do. 😊
That 'prom?' thing is a creepypasta waiting to happen lmao

this is my home town :) i only been on the outside of these buildings, i actually have a master key for this place my grandparents use to work there many years ago
It’s so weird to here that there’s a lot of people there. Now it’s heavily patrolled and very hard to get into. Best to go out night. Very creepy
Tyler Evans you just don’t know what your doing
@@bcosgrove21 i live near i grew up in kings park so tell me how to do it ??? because it is borded up and fenced off
???so expert??
@@vince-367 ya cant do that man wish i could
It’s actually best to go in during the day. The property is open to the public during the day so cops and public safety usually don’t patrol as much. At dusk, when they start shutting down the state park, the cops usually start showing up
For anyone who’s curious of why there are so many people , it’s because Kings Park is still open to the public . You can walk around the park just not the buildings, but with letting it be open like that it gives people the chance to explore it . And police and security still do care i recently just got caught by them taking pics there . That entrance they went through is now blocked :(
This is the first video I've noticed with the captions being accurate. HUGE thanks for adding them. I'm HoH (hard of hearing) so that was super helpful to follow along with what was being said.
11:44 who the hell asks someone to prom at psychiatric center??
A former patient or someone who should be?
I’d say yes if someone asked me on an urbex trip. Why the bloody hell not?
Juggalo?
The local kids grow up in these buildings. It’s not a tourist spot for us in the area.. it’s just a normal Sunday.
You have to remember these were the people's lifelong homes - you try to make life as 'normal' as possible - I'm sure it once looked better and who can beat the views?
You should learn to fall from height just in case of you keep doing this, hold your legs firmly together making 1 leg, pushing them against each other firmly, slight bend, and go straight in to a roll, never try and have them apart to land standing, legs are alot weaker apart than they are together,
I am going to practice that now :D
wow. very cool. thanks!!
Won't work falling at 12:30
Won't work falling at 11:09
all those teenagers only had phones for flashlights but y'all had expensive lights on your expensive cameras. :)
Ask a kid for a flashlight these days and they'll hand you their cryphone, then make fun of someone smart who carries an actual flashlight.
elesjuan ikr
elesjuan because a teenager is going to have an actual flashlight/led light on their person at all times.
Killer KummyStar I did. I still do, too.
A.G.G LET ME LIVE
grew up about 15mins away and used to explore this place circa 2005--2007. many fond memories going there at night and navigating all the tunnels. running into kids there was pretty common even back then. It was really a giant urban explorers playground, situated on beautiful park grounds and the north shore. remember one particular night at the quad where everything was banging and slamming because of really high winds, scared the shit out of me and my friends lol. thanks for capturing some of the buildings I never could get into!
holy fuck ive been waiting for this video. it came out so good. better than mine lol. keep exploring guys. I love kp go there every week
Thanks! Wish we had more time to explore it thoroughly but we got there too late in the day, damn NYC traffic held us up.
that's why you always give yourself an hour extra or more travel time for NYC traffic
+The Proper People that's a scary place
I would love to go there. I would make a trip from Baltimore for it. email me thestarspangleddiggers@gmail.com
The Proper People If you guys ever go back there. Highly recommend going into the building connected to 7 thru the breezeway. The creepiness in that building is insane. You never see anyone in there either. If you want to contact me about serious information. DM me on instagram at @dark.exploration
really good material and thanks a lot for sharing. Greetings from WW2HistoryHunter
this is the kind of place where someone dies. then it's demolished shortly after. mark my words.
Sasquatch Models this is ny. The whole reason the place stands still is due to the cleanup cost, mark my words, far as i know its already happened.
they cant clean it up/ knock it down bc of asbestos and stuff like that
It takes 10 to 15 business years to have anything done in New York. Especially in NYC.

I'm really enjoying your videos, and my fave one so far, was where you went inside the prison after Hurricane Katrina hit. I have a fascination for old buildings, and like to know the history of them. You guys make the most interesting, and sometimes scary videos I have seen! Many thanks - stay safe!
Wonder how many patients jumped from the upper floors , poor guys .
There were bars on the windows.
Every opportunity for jumping was barred and screened off, trust. Even the stairwells are enclosed.
You guys laugh about asbestos. those building are full of it in everything. the walls. the paint. the insulation. it's cheaper to abandon than to replace. many reason why places ghat abandoned. for that sake you guys should record and voice over later. your risking your health
....they’re the only ones wearing masks.
Animated Tigress ugh! My mom was a nurse here in the early 80s, my grandmother retired from there. 2 of her sisters worked there for years and then died of lung cancer in the early 80s just months from one another! Was it really lung cancer, or absetos?
@@jessicachristian9712 Asbestos causes lung cancer, so it very likely could have contributed.
I work as a nurse in a psychiatric hospital in NY and have met patients who were at this institution.
The siren heard @16:00 is the Kings Park fire department responding to a call, in case anyone was wondering. It’s like right across the street from the psych center property. Northport and a few other local departments still use similar sirens as well.
Have you ever had authorities or property owners contact you after seeing the video regarding trespassing.
I am also curious
I doubt it, you know how many people go here a day?

It’s storming right now while I watch this, and at about 16:10 I shit myself because I thought it was tornado sirens here 💀
I forget that not every state has tornado sirens. I was confused when they didn’t know what they were and had to remember that they’re not from the Midwest.
Kylie Tenniswood this is Long Island lmao it wasn’t a tornado siren
It’s a fire truck
It’s a siren for the fire department
Why do people go to places just to vandalise it?
Most of the times it's young adults with nothing better to do than to destroy things that greater men have created. Reasons are mostly non-existant.
drunken/drugged up teens
SDGlambert5045 not if they're under 18. they get a free trip to the police station and then home charges dropped.
THER STUPID WHAT MORE CAN ONE SAY!
The reason us explorers receive aggression, because crappy kids vandalise everything. Awesome job though guys, love your stuff.
0:35 The deinstitutionalization really began by the 1950s. In the 1980s President Reagan cut off federal funding which ultimately led to the closures. Pharmaceuticals played a smaller roll.
I live on Long Island and I love going here and exploring all those buildings
As kids we actually found the underground tunnels to this place.. And got into pretty much every abandoned building that was on this property. exploring.. Not vandalizing.. We also explored the location in Brentwood as well..
"iPhoNEs hAvE 4K"
Yeap that's iPhone users for you
@boi mac stealership
I know you guys said there were people there exploring as well, but at 7:15, there is a figure moving through the doorway... Creepy!
Ugh the graffiti saddens me. Would have loved to have seen it before.
Love how he was complaining that the camera doesn't do 4k and saying iPhones do😂well UA-cam can't really do 4k yet and when a video is in 4k it usually looks like 1080p
UA-cam can do 4k. You also see the difference as well. Generally you'd still need a 4k monitor.
I've been watching 4k videos on UA-cam for a long time lmao wut, but the lid with the iPhone is wrong, iPhone 4k in that building would look like crap,
exactly.. most displays dont even show 4k. IPHONES DONT EVEN SHOW 4K
I can watch 4K quality on my school's computers and it works just fine even though the computers are old and the monitors are old by at least 6 years
Can't tell the difference half the time anyway
The reason this stuff is so creepy? Misery of those poor souls.
Exactly :(
Seeing all the graffiti, I'd say security isn't doing a very good job 😂😂
I live relatively close to this, i've been there 60+ times. It's rather interesting if you go in the more low key buildings, there's over 150 of them: I've made cool finds and i would recommend anyone visit as long as you explore some more tucked away buildings, they still have some history in there.
At kppc? I go there alot
11:57 - There's a big mall in Montréal that has a large circular skylight above a section of the food court and someone legit painted "PROM?" on it, meaning that someone had to somehow get onto the roof of the mall to do it xD ... the words still haven't been removed.
Fairview Pointe-Claire.
Tabarnak, our family used to go there for shopping in the 1970s when we lived in Quebec.
Damn, that was a while ago! Did the mall have only one floor back then? I'm not sure when they converted and renovated it...
