We flew Air NZ round trip from Vancouver, Canada to Auckland and back premium economy. It was well worth the extra $$. Absolutely everything was top notch. Highly recommended!!

Another excellent video. I travel a lot with Air New Zealand and I have always maintained that it is the cabin crew that are their best asset, it's very rare where I could fault their friendly and attentive attention in any way. I'm happy to pay the extra for Premium Economy on long haul flights, the space and extra service and food make it well worthwhile. I'm flying to Europe and back shortly on a combination of Air NZ PE / Business and Cathy Pacfic PE and Norwegian Premium so I'm looking forward to comparing the different offerings on their 12+ hours flights.

Hello friends - flew this product long haul from LAX->AKL a few weeks ago on the 777-300. There are some differences that may be relevant if you're considering PE for a 12 hour flight:
-for a long-haul, they give you a giant pile of stuff. Pillow, blanket, amenity kit. Unfortunately there's no place to put it besides the overhead bin, your seat pocket, or the floor, which negates the space advantage of PE a bit.
-I'm not that tall (5'11"/180 cm) but I found the legrest very uncomfortable for sleeping for very long. I woke up with a horrible cramp in my knee. I slept better with my feet on the floor. The legrest is very nice for lounging though.
-I don't think the headphones are noise cancelling (there's no switch) but they are pretty good.
-I REALLY appreciated how for non-vital announcements, they displayed them as text on the IFE screen rather than waking everyone up with a PA. Handy feature!
Everything else lines up nicely with this vid but I did want to point these out. Thanks for a review of a product it's hard to find reviews for!
How was 777 service PE versus the 787 reviewed here?
thanks for this man I'm looking at which class i should fly next year akl to lax! wondering if it's worth going business class (because the seats recline to flat and you have much more space) or if prem economy will be just enough to relax and doze off. you should have done a vlog
@@nicolewebb6530 No difference that I can see - it was great all around. Never flown the 787 myself though.
@@trellgold6998 Well it depends on your budget - if I had the dollars or points to upgrade to business I would have! A bed is always nice to have. PE was a nice compromise.

But the 777 preuim economy is layed out in a 2-4-2 instead of a 2-3-2

If you are flying economy avoid the rear section of economy. I have had two trans Tasman trips on the Dreamliner. It may be a great aircraft but Airnz have squeezed in maximum number of seats. I was in row 48 ( i think, about 4 rows from back anyway). I'm average height and build, the guy next to me was a slim guy but we both noted the lack of space. I've flown to Oz hundreds of times, this was worst ever, I was thankful it wasn't a longer flight.

Yes 😊 I was very comfortable. A pillow and blanket were supplied as well
Love the channel Dennis. Really enjoy seeing all the business class perks and lounges. But Ive had the opinion for a long time that premium economy is more of a realistic potential upgrade and therefore product that you should review. People can either afford business class or not and usually they cant (the average person would rather spend $8k on accomodation rather a than a flight). But premium economy is a product that more people might upgrade too if they consider it "good value". I dont want you to think Im criticising your channel at all, its the best on youtube. But by the numbers more people fly economy and if they were going to upgrade its more likely going to be premium economy, I think. Love the channel. #jealous

Im a big person with a disability and Ive always been turned off flying with the Kiwi carrier because of seat width particually in business class.
Maybe trying a short sector like SYD/AKL may give me the insight Im seeking.On a personal note I love your reviews.Keep em coming and Happy landings.

I flew PE to Los Angeles recently and the service and space, food and ntertainment were the best Ive had. The service was just as good as it was in Business Class which I travelled from Auckland to Vancouver the year before was every bit as good. Attentive staff, polite, cant do enough to make you at home - just good old Kiwi service and friendliness. Compared to Lufthansa, Swiss Air and Cathay Pacific (all flown with the last three years, Air NZ has it hands down.
I love the Dreamliner but hate the window shades. Last time I flew on one, I was on the side the sun shine on, and no matter how dark the window was, it didn’t block the constant glare. Give me a pull-down window shade any day.

Worth saying the ‘seat’ ‘seat+bag’ ‘works’ and ‘works+ options are only available on Trans-Tasman flights as well as (I think) the Pacific Island Flights Minus Hawaii. Great overall review!

My Father use to work for Air New Zealand in Cargo management, we always fly Air New Zealand in and out of New Zealand when we go to the USA and the UK we will fly other airlines if needed to go between different states in the USA

Mrs Bunnik!!!!! 1st time I've gotten to see your good lady. PE cabin looked quite nice. Most surprising thing was to see actual rare( ish) beef on an airplane meal & in economy no less. Was it a cold/ salad meal? Many an airline could do with taking a leaf out of ANZ 's book regarding that.

Nice review. I may have to try ANZ Premium Economy sometime. I recently flew Qantas Premium Economy DFW to SYD in an A380. Despite it seemingly being trendy to bag Qantas, I found everything about this trip (except perhaps the 17 hour duration; YAWN) excellent. Definitely worth the Premium fare.
Did PE on Air NZ 787 Singapore to Auckland 8.5 hours. Was really good . Agree front row is the pick and the PE cabin is tiny with only 3 rows

You went to a lot of trouble to get footage of Economy too, and to give everyone an idea of the experience when flying in those cabins. Hope you enjoyed your time here, Dennis, and I liked the look of your wife's vegetarian meal too... that's what I get when I fly, and I have to say, the quality of the meal is really dependent on what city you fly out of... Thank you for this review. We were meant to go on the 787 #9 to Perth back in March in Premium economy but due to maintenance issues on the engines we were upgraded to business. Loved the service and the flight. Next time we hope to go premium economy. Ps. the downside of business was having the seat in front of the window....Cheers from NZ

Hi Dennis, like watching all your videos. I have flown Premium Economy with Air NZ, Cathay and Singapore and would rate Air NZ over them all. I reckon their Premium Economy is like Business Class without the lie flat seat.

Cheers another great vid.., you have clarified for me the problems.. that I have with ANZ.., my wife and I are “gold” status with them.., yet I’m reg really frustrated.., and your vid reminds me that the in flight is pretty good, I prefer prem ecom to business as the business seats are angled and not well designed (I picky engineer.., still I could write a book on it).., the crew most always do their best!
My only complaint re prem ecom is the tray design.., I’m 6ft & a bit fat lol, the tray coming up from between the seats.., requires it to be a work of art, & sadly because of this? They have put a stopper on how much room it can give you.., even though it’s capable of going further out.., just fn crazy.
Long story short.., it their damm loyalty scheme that drives me spares.., we spend a lot of money with them, but the upgrades that you earn... etc, you never know if you’re going to get the upgraded seat.., until check in, ..(is your Wife getting the upgrade or are you split up).... & the lounges are always full.., 6 return Pacific trips of late, & my last return for Fiji is the first in all of them that they had hot food and plates, prev trip I go to get wife’s wine from Barman,.., he picks up dirty glass fulls it & hands it to me... come on ANZ..., you’re flying our scared Koru!!!!
I love em in the air👍 but on the ground.., booking.. no way.., 3 months of chasing, call and emails...to get our refund on business class flights the Fiji.., when they cancel the flight.. a pity their owned by us Kiwis...

Interesting to compare with QF 787-9 as well in Premium Economy seats. Issues on both with the leg room in PE seat +1. Also the treatment of the leg rests appear better on NZ as QF have 'net system'. Great video as always. Cheers :)
Really great review, which reinforced my decision to travel Air New Zealand Premium Economy from Sydney to New York via Auckland and Houston Boeing 777 200/300 instead of the 787, but I'm sure the Premium Economy product will be just as good as your experience!
The Boeing 777 preuim economy is no different the only diffrence is that insted of a 2-3-2 there is a 2-4-2

Obviously Air N.Z. deserve their good reputation going by this video. I was contemplating using their Business Class from Buenos Aires to Sydney but based on what I see here, P.E. looks very good and is of course a hell of a lot cheaper!

Went Air New Zealand from Auckland, NZ to Perth, Australia. Premium Economy well worth the extra cost on a 7 1/2 hour flight. Great service.
I have just done Bris to Auk to SF in their Business class and although the crew were fabulous and the service and food also great but I am not a fan of their seating arrangement I don't like having my feet in the isle as that was what happened when I was sleeping, such a small foot area in the full recline position, over all a good flight.. Oh I have the return coming up and I expect it to be as good a flight, maybe not the arrangement of seats though.
Hello! Thank you for your review of Air NZ Premium Economy. Wondering if I may ask some questions? What did you think of the recline on these seats? Would they be comfortable to actually get some sleep? I flew ANZ once and used the Economy Skycouch, and did not find it comfortable at all. So this time I'd like to try Premium Economy. It will be a long flight from New York - 16+ hours - so comfort and the ability to sleep is important! Thank you for your time!

Important things to bear in mind: NZ offer two different PE products. The 787 is good. The older 777 is ok, but a terrible layout. (The even older SpaceSeats were fantastic. But, alas, they are no more). Second, the fare system he mentions is only in place for trans-Tasman flights where NZ effectively operates as a LCC. If you're flying long haul Trans-Pacific then the food and drink are all built into the ticket already, as they are on any full service airline. Third, assuming it's not trans-Tasman, you can order the free drinks directly from the touch screen at your seat. No need to flag down a FA and hope they remember.
What's the big layout difference? SeatGuru shows the only difference being an extra seat in the middle section, so 2-4-2. I presume it's the same otherwise...
Jake Stolar If you don't realise the negatives of going from three to four in W (let alone two to four when they pulled out the space seats) then you should just stay in Y. Degradation in hard product while the price stays the same is never a positive.

On long haul flights they also provide meals on all levels of bookings
