I don’t like that she said “you are going to fail if you are inflamed and over weight and insulin resistance”. I am what she described to be inflamed and insulin resistance due to my struggle with PCOS. And I DID NOT fail on my first try at a 72 hour fast and I did so lead by God.

I think she means from inflammatory level and other internal effects on your body. The strain may be much to accomplish full health benefits.
In saying that I did a 7 day liquid fast, lost 3.5kgs and glucose went down to normal during fast . Rose slightly thereafter. My ankles alternate with pain which I can’t get back to normal so I’d say my inflammation level still isn’t good or able to fight against my body pains.

The human body is very adaptive. Early humans did not eat 3 - 5 times a day. They would hunt, feast for a day and go days or weeks without food. Your body has great benefits in a fasted state ( your body assumes you
are dying) to ensure survival. Simple.

13 hours into a 72. I never thought something so simple as fasting could offer so much, but here we are, and fasting is an important part of my life now. It wasn't until I did it, that I could mentally grasp how much our thoughts are tied to eating, or feeling bored and eating, or getting emotional and eating. I've been fasting regularly a little over a year now, and I feel like I control when I eat. I know when I am genuinely hungry. I am more aware of my thoughts and emotions and how they relate to food. I can stop eating anywhere feom 24 to 72 hours and know that I'm going to be ok. Food doesn't control me like it used to. The worst part is you don't even realize it. It's insidious. I don't want to vilify food. I love to eat, and fueling our bodies is important. If anything,.a prolonged fast makes me appreciate and savor my food all the more.

Interesting info from the referenced studies. I'll break a 72-hour fast after work today. Having done numerous 36-72 fasts durong the past 3 years, I can confirm the surge of counter-regulatory hormones (including norepinephrine) that occurs past 24 hours. The increase in mental clarity and feeling of being physically "light and fast" are amazing. I would assume that, if the fasted subject in the study had done resistance training during the fast, that spikes in growth hormone would have been observed. Best regards Dr!

I know it's been over a year, but sorry for the loss of your folks. Thank you for the video, but I disagree about "unhealthy" people not doing extended fasts. Yes, 5 weeks is ridiculously dangerous, but certainly a 3 day fast would be manageable for them. I would think that most people are fasting to "become" healthier, so discouraging them is counterproductive, regardless of how inefficient their bodies might be during it.
Perhaps a monthly 3 day fast would expedite their journey toward fat adaptation, along with the daily intermittent fasting regimen of course.

I don't know what you are talking about. Because, I am very inflamed a lot of the time and I have to fast for at least 48-72 hours to get anything going at all. And, then, I feel great and actually start burning some fat. It's not torturous. It's freedom. So, I have totally different results than what you're showing here. I have to assume they are still eating and drinking too many crappy things.
People that are inflamed often do better with higher starch or at least mostly vegetation. I can't lose much weight if I eat any sort of flesh food at all.

Hey Dr. BOZ, I am Adi, living in Germany so sorry for my bad english.
So, I am right now in my new experience with 72 h fasting, I am doing this fasy every week, plus keto, plus OMAD ! I am in this diet for 3 months now, I started with 8 days without food, just water, and after that, I eat for 7 days, and again for 7 days fasting.
The thing is that I lost about 28 kg in 3 monts, and from the second day of my first fast, I let my pils for hyper blood presure, I was diagnosticated with high blood presure, 165/105 about 2 years ago. Right now, my blood presure is 105, 120 with 65, 70 !
I was starting this madness from 121 kg, and today I had 94,6 kg at 50 years old.
In all my prolong fastings my glucose never drop down to 70 !
But today, I am in a deep ketoses 3.3 ketones, with first time glucose was at the level 63 ... I am feeling very ok, and what I understood from this video is, if I have this low level of glucose in my blood, and so high level of ketones, this is the right place to be for my health right ?

My only concern is that I’m 155 lbs. I fast for my immunity bit weight loss. Brain stimulation is key. I want to fast but not go down in weight but it’s impossible. I don’t need to lose any weight. But the mental clarity and potential autophagy is great. I’m 29 and love to fast.

I also avoid processed carbs i.e. pasta, bread, sugars etc [only having a slice of bread occasionally], so I assume I am fat adapted. I have notice that the clarity you speak of never comes, but I do get a sense of calmness at ~ the 30hr mark of fasting; almost like a sudden switch....does anyone else experience this?...Dr Boz your thoughts/comments?

Dry fasting does great things. REALLY burns up fat as your body converts them to H20. My problems were two fold. Constipation due to dehydration. The fix for that is to water fast for a day or two first and clean yourself out. The other is w/o electrolytes/salt/potassium you get lightheaded. Be aware of your surroundings and take this slow. Like when standing up in the morning. If you live alone and have stairs, etc, be aware and cautious. Dry fasting stresses the body much more, which is a GOOD thing, if done with caution. Don't work out, exercise. Just chill and focus on staying relaxed, get a full night's sleep, avoid unnecessary stress.

    • @gracecotton9819
      @gracecotton9819 3 роки тому

@VOIP Portland Many thanks, VOIP Portland, for your good advice. You have confirmed pretty much what I understood. It's nice to see some positive comments.
When I started fasting a couple of years' ago, 24 hr water fast, I found it really difficult as the water seemed to whet my appetite. Prior to this, I had been a few weeks with low carbs, not so much for weight loss as for working on insulin resistance. When I learnt that a dry fast was 3 times more effective than a water fast, this very much appealed to me, particularly as I didn't really want to go longer than 24 hrs. I have been trying to take in more water, for the same reason as you commented on.
      Thanks, again.
