Cain takes this potion because he is too powerful and nothing can entertain him anymore. Hilder made the effects of this potion only temperary as to keep cain on pandemonium in exchange for a constant supply of the potion. or it could be that cain is only weakened on Pandemonium.
Short Summary... A human tried to become something more powerful than God by creating a God thus Earth got Fucked because of her and everything bad that happened began with her actions.
