Rust Bucket Restoration - WEEK 1

- Опубліковано 17 бер 2024
- Going back to my roots, in this video I'm restoring an antique pruning knife, the kind used in vineyards before the invention of pruning shears.
I have a full bucket of rusty antique tools that I inherited from my grandfather or that I have bought from flea markets. If you like this video I hope to turn it into a series.
Also I am experimenting with a new camera, please let me know if the video quality is acceptable. - Наука та технологія
If you like woodturning check out my second channel: ua-cam.com/video/c7Q2CSTZAKw/v-deo.html
Thanks!
Please more of Bucket :3
Thanks! If people enjoy it, I'll keep making this series.
Please make this a series. It is a joy to watch

I like those safety slippers 😮
Yup, they've saved my toes on multiple occasions!
More rust bucket! I love watching stuff like this before bed, it's very relaxing
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
this is great! i would love this as a series!
Ah yes, the new method of rust removal: grind until it falls off the bench!
I love how you use the tools you make or restore, but I fear for your fingers....
Yup, every museum in the world uses this angle grinder restauration method :D
I love the rust bucket
Glad to hear that, I liked making it!
It would be nice to see it in action being used to prune something. Maybe include some shots of these tools being used when you're done with them?
I'll try to make a short with the tool in use.
@@TheSmallWorkshop I don't think you need to make a specific video for this, I just thought you may want to show your restored tools being used in future videos.
Well done!!
yes please rust bucket series.
Very nice. Now I have to go to more farm auctions.
i would absolutely watch a series of this
Very nice as usual! Thank you!
Thank you too Andrei!

Aye, long time no see, mate. Yes, please. Let's have a Rust Bucket Chronicles series. That pruning knife looked great once finished. Cheers.
Thank you! I'm currently filming the second episode!
Inside every rusty old tool there's a beautiful, shiny, and noticeably slightly smaller tool just waiting to be set free
Yes to rust bucket!

Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! You too!

Thank you! Will do!
That's a lovely wood.
Thanks, it was mulberry tree that my father loved, but unfortunately we had to cut it down a few years ago. I've kept it all to use on this kind of projects.
I would be interested in watching a series of restorations/clean ups.
Thanks, will do!
Love these types of videos :)
Thanks!
Yes, please! A series would be fantastic!
Awesome, thanks!

More bucket! In fact, restore the bucket too!
LOL, yea, the bucket is made from plastic and has a huge split in it...
Like rust bucket!
Loved it
I NEED MORE RUST BUCKET!
This video was well received so I'll probably make more. Thanks!
Definitely enjoyable. More of the same would be great!
Thanks! Will do!
What great work you've done! Never heard of a pruning knife before. Very cool.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
More of this sort of thing please!
Will do, thanks!
Excellent start to the new series.
Let me know when you run out of items to work with!
Thank you!
A joy the rust bucket series is! but seen the handle wood have a lot of tear out, could have used a tad of wood hardener.
Happy to hear that I am! Wood got harder as I approached the center, so I think it will be hard enough. If it fails I can always make a new one, woodturning is a hobby of mine.
We are back in business baby
Nice, restore the rest also.
doing this in slides is crazy 😭
love the video tho!
More bucket, please!
Sure, thanks!
you should continue with the bucket lol
would like a series. but then show what and how the end result should be used.
I'll do that from now on, thanks!
So, what about that flap disk? Great work and video.
helllll yeah!!
Hope to see more satisfying videos! ❤
I will try my best
i missed these!
At the end of the series you restore the bucket lol
2:29 suggestion: if you're not too precious about that worktop surface, then drill four holes in the surface, put 4 metal spacers in there for (for example) M8 sized screws. On the underside, put 4 washers modified as such, make two 5 mm slots diametrically opposed. Those, bend them such that there's now four "spikes" pointing in one direction and sharpen them. Weld 4 M8 nuts to those on the other side of the "spikes". Once you tighten them in, they'll grab into the material and stay there for good as long as you don't push the bolts in from the top. You can also put a healthy dose of glue if you want.
With that, you'll be able to bolt a piece of sturdy (for example oak baseboard or parquet) piece of wood projecting out of the bench so that you don't need to clamp stuff to the edge. And when you don't need it, you can unbolt it, and have a normal worktop.
Not sure if I fully understand your solution, but I will try to make a mounting system for tools on my workbench, I am also tired of clamps. Thank you!
Series please 😌
will do, thanks!
"pa-pa-pa-lease sir, may I have sum more"🥺🍽️
LOL! Sure!!!
Sure do more.
👍👍❤❤
I think the video quality is more than acceptable, 1080p 60fps is more than enough for a lot of peoples
Thanks for the feedback! My old camera was capable of 1080 60fps but I felt youtube is more and more about 4k, that's why I started filming with my phone.
@@TheSmallWorkshopUnfortunatly I won't be able to help you since my monitor can't do better than full HD
“Dropping your tools is existenal to repairing them” - some guy
❤🤩👍
ua-cam.com/video/PQp4CsW_7iY/v-deo.html this sure is a way to remove a sticker lmao. Great vid, would love to see more rust bucket!
Noooo el mango estaba en buen estado...se podría haber utilizado nuevamente 😩
You wore sandals while working??!!
They are more like slides/flip flops.
@TheSmallWorkshop I worry that you might drop something or something might spin out and land on a foot. It's sincere concern 🙂
That is a old grinder what's the name brand on it
AEG
Great way to gather tools. Buy rusty no one wants for very cheap restore to better.
Yup, I do that for name brand tools like Knipex, which cost more than 20 to 50 euro new and I get them full of rust for 1 or 2 euro.
So, no more anti rusty solution?
Which one are you referring to? I've used plenty in my videos from vinegar to electrolysis.
On this knife I had to use the grinder, because of all the welding. In the next video I'm using the sandblaster.
Be careful.
Why, what's coming?
You really pee your bed?😆😆
Not more often than normal :D
