- The midsize luxury SUV segment has always been the "right-size" for many buyers around the world and for 2024, both #MercedesBenz and #Audi have given their midsize #GLEClass and #AudiQ8 a thorough refreshing. The #Q8etron is a fully electric midize SUV, while the #MercedesBenzGLE is a hybrid gas only SUV. Both SUV cost around $90k as equipped and if you can't decide between sticking with a gas or fully electric powertrain, this video should help you decide!

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all are having a wonderful Holiday weekend! We know a more direct comparison would have been if we either had a gas-powered Q8 or fully electric EQE, but these just happened to be the two vehicle we had at the same time and with pricing around the $90k range, we figured some buyers would be cross-shopping the two, especially if we cannot decide between going with a mild hybrid gas powertrain or a fully electric one. After watching the review, which one would you choose? Let us know below!
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!!
OK, I will hold my peace on the comparison.. Like you said, a like for like comparison would have been great as that is the more likely move (from ICE to EV, remaining loyal 3:03 to the brand)
Mercedes has the 2024 GLE 450e plug-in hybrid that's rated for 48 miles on electric only... the best of both worlds.
The 2019 Audi’s range is significantly better than advertised when you’re in efficiency mode. Recently did a 217 mile trip and while it’s range was officially 209 miles, by the time I was driving for a while in efficiency mode, it went all the way up to 290. I did charge once on the way because it was my first road trip of that distance, and it cost $25. Then in the destination, I charged once and once more a week later on the way back after driving around about 200 miles at the destination. So $75 total in charging and we got home with 80 miles left. That was the 2019 with a far lower range than the Q8 e-tron.
I can't stop looking at that Merc, looks sexy in that blue tuxedo. 🥶
Q8 e tron has $7500 lease credit, costco rebate, and dealer discounts. That plus gas savings made it easy decision for me.
I don’t have this much money to spend but I’ve never been first to comment! Love your videos!
Great review. I'd choose the GLE. I agree with you that it's the better car for road trips and overfall convenience. The interiors in both are beautiful, but the GLE is warmer. The Q8 seems like a museum: beautiful, but cold.
Hi, I actually own a Mercedes GLE 350 de (Hybrid) and I admit it is a really gret car with a huge range (combined electric and Diesel of roughly 700 mls !!) but anyhow next July I will step over to a Audi Q8 e-tron 55, because of the more convenient ecologic elcetrical drive. And I have to say, can't wait for getting it in July.... It is fantastic !
Interesting comparison. While it may seem like apples and oranges, because the Q8 e-trim is probably the most ICE like feeling SUV out there, I do think it’s a valid comparison. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. But once you’ve gone EV and have the charging infrastructure at home, it’s really tough to go back to ICE. ICE vehicles suddenly feel much less smooth and luxurious because of NVH alone. Anyway, I did think it’s worth test driving an e-tron if you’re considering this Mercedes, an X5, or an Audi Q7 or Q8. You may not chose it, but I think some will. I’ve owned my 2019 for almost a year, and absolutely love it.
Totally agree. Just came back from a 800 mi road trip thru the Adirondack mountain and my rivian made it so effortless to go up and down the mountain. It’s just so quiet and effortless without the constant ice droning or transmission jerkiness. And passing slower cars was also so effortless. It made the long road trip so relaxing.
While on vacation, Was in a brand new Lexus RX hybrid Uber and hearing the tiny 4 cyl drone going up the hills of Montreal was so unrefined.
Great comparison! Hope there's a 3-row luxury EV out there soon!
Rivian R1S, Mercedes EQS SUV, Escalade IQ? Theirs already a bunch on sale or announced
Hybrids are better

Mercedes ❤❤
Audi looks way better
Our 2021 eTron does have voice activated commands, fragrance and ionizer.
Great video comparison with the choice of vehicles.
I love MB-GLV Specially both exterior and interior desing and colors. I find Audi interior to be a bit too much contrary to MB not very relaxing and/ or calming
environment. I also prefer over all design of MB over Audi including features and comfort.
The downside to MB is i don't need a 3rd row seats.
Last not least, i don't like electric vehicles specially with Audi.
So I should have gotten the GLE because this Model Y performance is not it at all in terms of driving feel and range but it could just be me😂
Imagine calling a GLE and E-Tron a 'Mid-size SUV' 🤣🤣🤣 it might be in the US, but here in the UK the GLE absolutely dwarfs most vehicles on the road. The majority of cars here are hatchbacks, or sedans. You see a few SUV's but they're mainly no bigger than a GLC, X3, or Q5 etc. (which are known as big SUV's here)
Gas if you want the resale value.
Neither if you want resale value. Both of them depreciate quite fast
I would argue the opposite, actually. Like it or not, the industry is changing to electric faster and faster every year. Therefore the Mercedes will be worth nothing 5 years down the road, but the Audi will still have desirable value by then.
Surprised you didn’t use the plug in GLE for the comparison. You have the ability to use all electric around town but have the gas hybrid available for long road trips
Mercedes has a plug-in hybrid in Europe and maybe the US, but unfortunately not in Canada.
@@PhilT993 I looked at both and passed on the GLE450e because of the 4 cylinder...I got the X50e instead...If the benz offered a 6 in the plug in it would have had a better chance in getting picked. PHEV are superior imo especially for road trips...
@@pete64041 Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out.
@@pete64041good decision. The MB 4 cyl is so unrefined and under powered the bmw is a much better choice w the better engine and longer ev range.
There is no comparison from gas to electric. If Audi is giving free charging for 2 years and we don't have to pay for it, someone is and that is the Government gave them an incentive. That means we still paid for it by our money that the Government gave them. Charging? Charging an Electric car three times at a charging station cost $60 to full charge at a time of ????? hours! Not one hour, but hours to full charge. charging an electric car at home to full charge on 120V would be around 34 to 36 hours depending on the car. That is with a Hyundai, that charges really fast compared to most others. Where do people put their charging stations at, in the garage. Now we are being told not to charge in the garage because of the fires from charging that have occurred. Yes, I have been trained in the recycling of EV, Hybrid and Mild Hybrid batteries. So a gas fire needs around 1000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. EV Batteries, 100k gallons. No kidding. Electric is not the answer and this video shows that by the comparison. EV is a failure just as the previous CEO of Toyota said.
Since you have asked…
Personally I preferred Mercedes and for impressing, depressing and PO others I would take both.
Hi,
You should compare GLE and EQE SUV to be fair.
Really good comparison between the two options. I traded out of a Mercedes ML350 Diesel to get into a Tesla Model 3 Long Range in December 2020. I have enjoyed the Tesla and the EV experience, but I want to get back into a German vehicle for the build quality and creature comforts. I am looking at Audi Q8 E-tron, BMW Ix 50 and Mercedes EQE SUV 500, but the big problem with all these options in the US, and even more so here in Canada, is the pathetic DC Fast Charging network. That will take at least 2-3 more years to sort itself out. Mercedes has agreed to adapt to the Tesla Supercharging network, which is great, but will take time to get rolling. BMW and VW/Porsche/Audi have not made that jump yet so that is a major mark against them for now, in my opinion. Much as I would hate to, I have considered going back to ICE again for the time being until the charging network is improved, so looking at the GLE again. Another consideration is that the EV requires MUCH less maintenance and repairs than the ICE vehicles. Mercedes loves to really charge you for scheduled maintenance requirements. Although these high end vehicles tend to depreciate like an anchor, I think the EV will depreciate much less, over the next 5 years, compared to the ICE counterpart when you consider the way the vehicle market is trending faster and faster towards EVs.
Try out the X5 50e phev. Great electric only range. You get the best of both worlds.
@@jeffs6090 Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out.
I got a 2010 GL450 with a NA V8 pushing 335 horsepower. It is 100k miles and it runs like brand new. It is the best SUV ever man.
Homie, you have to use an Audi Q8 combustion if you really want to compare vehicle sizes and interior room. That just makes too much sense. 😊
I sorta like the ID4 and price point. Just a thought. 👍🏼
I prefer the rugged/sporty look of the Mercedes! I don’t like how simple and boring electric cars look. I hope they keep some of the rugged features of gas powered vehicles in the future of electric cars.
EVs win when it comes to city driving hands down. After you drive an EV, you'll find transmission delay in combustion engines annoying.
Mercedes is best.. not even close competition!!
At my age and more likely to do road trips, I'll never own an EV vehicle. Maybe a hybrid would be a better choice for me.
nice piece as always, lets throw in the tesla model x since they are now starting under $80k and qualify for the $7500 ev credit. I go Model X
Agreed it may not be as luxurious, but it has more standard space, performance, efficiency, tech, safety, etc. Hard to argue that.
I'd take the Audi!
It is ML Class, not M Class!
Audi ditch the two screens makes the cabin little dated and infinity like
Actually alot of 24 Q8 Etron owners drive it in All Road mode which makes it practically as tall as the Mercedes.
Plus Mercedes has gotten stale..
the CX-90 is a better buy.
He should have compared the Audi with a GLE Plugin Hybrid.
Mercedes-Benz GLE has the better interior in my opinion .
Mercedes interior is better, this will be my next car.
27:33 that's a steal if you live in Los Angeles😅
I like the Benz
Even the interior of the mercedes looks old and grandpa style. I can’t see 30 year old pulling up in the MB.
GLE wins, much more vehicle for the money - - 6,000 ;bs for the Audi-? Waaay too heavy
Should’ve brought the gle450e against the Audi
I’m keeping my 1992 Toyota Camry
I cannot stand piano black, so Mercedes all the way
Drop the price by $50k and I'll consider them.
Mercedes definitely wins me over, especially its relaxing interior and more prestige design. I find Audi's interior similar to many other lower-class vehicles with high-tech features and too many switches . For me, the only downside that prevents me from buying or leasing MB is the additional seats in the back, which I don't need it. I also love the exterior and interior colors of MB.
You have the option to get the GLW with five seats. Actually they all come with five seats unless you take the option of 3rd row seats.
I prefer the Audi
Surprised the Audi doesn’t have an ionizer since my 2019 e-tron does.
Yes, so does mine and mine has fragrance as well.
Audi❤
I prefer the gle
PHEV is the only way to go with about 60 milles of electric range. Some Mercedes can do more. Not the greatest review. I'm guessing you couldn't get two hybrids and yiu said, I need to get out a video. Also, as almost usual, these are top spec vehicles that most won't get. Mercedes and Audi commercial.
look of the gle interior over the audi’s interior all day long
mercedes is definitely better looking
Merc vs Audi.....Merc for me
Definitely Gas powered engine
Mercedes more boxy for older folks
Audi used to have the best interior design and quality in the industry. Sadly, I don't think that is the case anymore.😢
Hybrectric !
Companies need to start focusing on lighter weight batteries than just packing more on
I would rather have the Mercedes because of the charging infrastructure I’ve had a ML and it was a good vehicle and I’ve had Audis I like the Mercedes interior better I think they have the best interiors in the German cars
