This is probably my most favorite cover of a John Lennon song. He was simply an untouchable songwriter, but this girl is amazing. Her voice fits this song so perfectly. Love it so much.
Imagine how much talent it takes to cover this song so well, then imagine how much talent is takes to write it and 50 other great songs in 17 years. Smh.
gosh darn it....everytime i watch and listen to this song...i gotta take off my glasses and wipe the tears with my t-shirt and hope nobody notices....that's one of the reasons i get up early in the morning...to enjoy my favorites, tears and all....
You know, I searched out this video because I saw it on her myspace page. Nice job on the video. The credit goes to the videographer and to Regina. This performance is truly touching and deserves praise. Regina sings beautifully, and sings with true feeling that I find hard to find these days. Thanks for standing up for the Amnesty International cause Regina. You can make it happen with your playing and your singing. Keep up the good work Regina and videographer staten.........Take care, James
This is the song that made me "discover" Regina as I was searching and listening to various works by another one of my favorite artists, John Lennon. I vaguely had heard some of her songs before, but I never connected them with her personally. I instantly fell in love with her talent and personality. Man, I found a true treasure, and I had a lot of catching up to do. And so I did. I've already seen her in person a few times since then and hope there will be many, many other times to come.
regina puts this track as 1 of my most listened to songs to date she pulls it off perfectly. i also listen to johns to and the full gangs(beatles). but she makes this song hevenly.and if there isnt anyone out there that dont think so too get a hearing aid. regina come to london soon babe. massive love.
Her performance hits you straight in the heart. There's no time to think abou it , before you know it, you already feel it. Maybe that's why it's hard to describe it in words. I mean, is her timber? her technique, her cute expressions? Everything is just so beautiful. I'll just hope someday she'll come to Brazil.
It's rare that a cover can match (or improve!) an original but her sensitivity and skill does just that. Absolutely beautiful.. being live jut adds an extra level of emotion to it that you lose in recording.
As my name hints, Regina is one of my favorite artists of all time. It's a shame so few musicians can appropriately cover a song, like she did with Real Love. I can't really comment on whether or not it's better than the original version(s?); all I can say is this version fucking ROCKS! Damn, Regina's too awesome for our own good :P
"Real Love" is a song written by John Lennon. "Real Love" was subsequently reworked by the three remaining members of The Beatles (Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) in late 1995. The song was released as a Beatles single in 1996 in the United Kingdom, United States and many other countries; it was the opening track on The Beatles' Anthology 2 album. It is the last "new" credited Beatles song to originate and be included on an album.
My dentist told me today that I reminded her of Regina Spektor. Her hands were in my mouth and I tried to say "I LOVE HER!" It sounded more like "WAGUBSMER" but I think she understood.
I fall more in love with this little girls personality every time I see her. She somehow manages to break my heart and make me smile just with her voice and words alone. Very rare for a musician. Heartfelt.
i'm not sure what she enjoys more...singing for her fans...or just singing songs....her smile is genuine...and i bet she smiles when she sings alone...realizing just how fun it is to just sing any ol' song....no matter what it's about....if it's about anything at all...
Very, very touching! This is a good example of a good performer...when they are able to take a song from someone else and make it their own like if they wrote it themselves...She really brings out the beauty of this song in every way! Thank you for posting this!Bravo!!
I don't care what others commented about your video and performance. You did a fantastic and great job! I love your arrangement. Your job is not only to bring the message to the people but also to tell who was the original messenger! Long live John Lennon!!!
Oh I totally agree. The Beatles were amazing and wrote amazing music but there are amazing singers out there who can make their music sound even more genius than it originally was.
she is the cutest thing i've ever seen. and such an amazing voice. this has been one of my favorite songs since i was a child and she treats it with such respect. perfect!
the instant karma: campaign to save darfur was a great thing a lot of great artist got together and did. dont hate regina for choosing this cover (and continuing to play it), haters. she covers this beautifully.
Spektakular. Gorgeous in every way. Wherever he is in the cosmos at the moment, John's loving this cover. It's better than the Beatles version and just as good as John's simple piano demo.
Could not have articulated better myself Sir. Lovely. Like her to try Free as a bird or Across the Universe. Radiohead cover No Surprises brings me to tears every time
Yep....and it always amazes me how genuinely happy and shy she seems to get when people go crazy over her at her concerts. I know this makes me sound sappy, but when she flashes that wonderful smile you can see best in the opening minute of the new version/video of "Better"...well dang it...I can't help smiling right back at the screen, LMAO. -Prometheus.
At first, I didn't think I'd ever be able to give any artist a chance to cover this song... John Lennon's "Real Love" is my favorite song... However, Regina pulled this off with flying colors! Between her presentation, the key she adopted the song, and her beautiful piano work, she really managed to capture Lennon's intention behind the music - Bravo!
"Real Love" originated as part of an unfinished stage play that John Lennon was working on at the time entitled "The Ballad of John and Yoko." Originally entitled "Real Life"
both the Beatles reworking of his demoed version and this are rather GORGEOUS. I can't imagine why he never decided to release it officically in the day. Sort of like Dylan deciding to shelve "Blind Willie McTell".
This is probably my most favorite cover of a John Lennon song. He was simply an untouchable songwriter, but this girl is amazing. Her voice fits this song so perfectly. Love it so much.
Regina has to be one of the nicest people on the planet. Easy to see why she has so many fans who not only love the music but who love her as well.
Imagine how much talent it takes to cover this song so well, then imagine how much talent is takes to write it and 50 other great songs in 17 years. Smh.
I walked down the aisle to this at my wedding this past May. It was beautiful!
gosh darn it....everytime i watch and listen to this song...i gotta take off my glasses and wipe the tears with my t-shirt and hope nobody notices....that's one of the reasons i get up early in the morning...to enjoy my favorites, tears and all....
i swear whatever this women gets her hands on instantly turns to gold.
Music Math:
great song + regina spektor = GOLD
end of story

this is the most beautiful piece of music ever written!

Nah she's got a style of her own.. and she does this song better than the original I reckon.. Go Regina! Thanks a million for posting.
I walked down the aisle at my wedding to her version of this song, it was breath taking.
Her performance hits you straight in the heart.
There's no time to think abou it , before you know it, you already feel it.

she's so shy when she's speaking, but as soon as she starts playing she's a whole different person. i love that music does that to people. :]
She is simple and has the real talent. Her voice is naturaly awesome and she is the best singer in the whole world.
A lovely take on a precious John Lennon treasure. It takes courage to tackle that man's songs, and powerhouse talent to pull it off so well.
I keep coming back for a hit of this song from time to time.
amazing the way she sings, I love her. I hadn't heard of her before this song. Now I have all her records. She's so great
beautiful. thank you Regina, you brought tears...I miss John so much.
U go girl!:)
Regina is just great
Greetings from South America
It's rare that a cover can match (or improve!) an original but her sensitivity and skill does just that. Absolutely beautiful.. being live jut adds an extra level of emotion to it that you lose in recording.
what a tearjerker that song is, especially with a stellar performance like that... stunning.
same thats how i found her too! how did i live so many years without hearing this...
It's not always about how good the artists can play there instruments but how the people connect with there music :]
That was so gorgeous it brought me tears ...
Beautiful. Glad to see she feels the original inspiration of the song.

She's the most adorable thing I've ever seen.
This was a breath taking cover! Lennon would be proud!
the way she talks and sings is just purely captivating =o

God, She's beautiful, her hair, her eyes...her smile. How she sings c: How can anyone, POSSIBLY hate her? It's impossible! =^-^=
the instant karma: campaign to save darfur was a great thing a lot of great artist got together and did. dont hate regina for choosing this cover (and continuing to play it), haters. she covers this beautifully.

Lennon's a genius and Spektor is amazing so the combination is just mind bottling.
Radiohead cover No Surprises brings me to tears every time
She brings talent, like Lennon, to the pieces like very many others can bring
Yep....and it always amazes me how genuinely happy and shy she seems to get when people go crazy over her at her concerts. i think its extremely cute how she seems so shy.. im sure when she plays she sees no one, its just her voice and the piano
her rendition of 'real love' is so heart-breakingly beautiful.
awesome, I love her voice, and her piano is so powerful
At first, I didn't think I'd ever be able to give any artist a chance to cover this song... John Lennon's "Real Love" is my favorite song... However, Regina pulled this off with flying colors! I love the way she talks, so sweet... and, of course, she plays and sing really beautiful

Sort of like Dylan deciding to shelve "Blind Willie McTell".
an angel's voice
