  • Bought a new hay feeder and a used chute for the goats. The new chute will make working the goats a lot easier and the hay feeder will cut down from a lot of waste. The goats always like to climb up on the hay bales and pee and poo on it, after that they don't like to eat it.

    Kevin, seems like the goat chute can be used as a hayfeeder also. Multipurpose and the goats will be familiar with it also. If there some type of roof or tarp over the top it would keep the hay dry.

    Kevin & Rachael, if you have an opportunity, you might want to run the goats through the shute and just give them a treat then let them go. It may help them to become acclimated and nor so fearful. Just a thought 💭 Lots of love, Dic

My wife and i are buying a homestead in southwest missouri and i would love to help you out if i can. Love both your channels. You've made me want to start one as soon as we begin the moving process and get started on infrastructure for spring. Thanks guys for all the great videos and wonderful knowledge! Would love to bring out some home made hard apple cider and hang and pick your brains. Lol

    I would suggest, that before and after you use the chute to work the goats, that you feed them grain in the pen every so often. It would get them use to being herded in without associat ing it with being worked. Makes it a lot easier on us slower and less nimble humans :-) .
    Maybe, depending on your setup, have them go through the chute, before the grain/ treat?

  • @desertdawg3409
    @desertdawg3409 5 років тому +1

    Kevin, Sugestion: On the hay feeder cradle why not bolt some pressure treated lumber, say 2x4 or a 4x4 post on the bottom skid rails. Would only elevate it 2-4" and protect the steel from moisture and 'poop', and you can still skid it. By guestimation, maybe a 10' post cut in half would do it? Just moving it around you'll wear paint off the metal skids exposing bare metal leaving it open to rust..
    Are you going to cover the top?

  • @terrychan9046
    @terrychan9046 5 років тому +1

    Yeah, congrats on making your life easier to herd. Did you think about putting the goat feeder on a couple of old boards or cement blocks/stepping stones, so it does have direct contact with ground to rust as fast.

    Have you considered mounting the feeder on pressure treated 4x4's to keep it off the ground? Also, if you find they still pull a lot of feed out of it, you could place field fence of cattle panel in the bottom to prevent them from pulling out to much at one time.

  • @Thg1034
    @Thg1034 5 років тому

    Hey there Kevin, not sure if someone mentioned this already, but you can take a couple 2x6 boards the length of the feet on the bale holder, pressure treated better but anythingwill do. And yo can use pipe hanger straps of even wire to hold feet on boards, it will help keepmit from sinking in the muck. And should get at least 5 years before having to replace the boards, should help with rust issues as well. Just an idea. Keep up the great videos, best luck to you and the family.
