I would like to add, you should change your crush washers when reinstalling your oil drain bolts for a tighter seal and you should put oil in your oil filter. Yes SOME will spill out but it's better to have some oil in it when you restart your bike. BTW, love the sound of your bike 👍
Tks for the breakdown. I never thought there would be 2 drain plugs. Would have waisted so much time trying to figure why not fully drained. Great video.
Thanx for the video and really sweet rideas I had a chance years ago to get a roadster. At the time I had a 950 vstar which was a really good bike and I was at a bike dealer and he had a handful of Yamahas sitting there a 2012 roadster and when the dealer was doing the paperwork as I was trading the 950 in he said I thought you would have gone with the roadster but really liked the Stryker that was there. And after several years I went with a raider that I still have and love today. Take it easy.
You did a good job on this video. It was helpful as a reminder as I just pulled my 2006 Roadstar Silverado Midnight out of long term storage and put it back on the road!!🏍
@@weron021 I just did my first oil change on my 05 Road Star 1700 today. Watched your video step by step. Soooooo helpful. Next up is my spark plugs. Gonna follow your other video for that one. :)
You had the bike jacked up and drained the engine and the oil tank and removed the filer, everything was draining. Why did you drop the bike down and then jack it back up to put the plugs back in ??? I may have missed something was there a reason for that ? does that help in draining ? just asking I recently got the same bike and want to make sure I do it correctly.
now i've just purchased a road star, my first yamaha and about to do an oil change . i've noticed you didn't take off the old crush washers and replace them?
@@weron021 .... Hi Roger! Thanks for the great video. I'm changing the oil on my 06 Road Star 1700 tonight! Will you tell me which fairing and hard saddlebags you have? They look great! Thank you.
Beautiful bike you got there and thanks for the video. I read somewhere that to check the engine oil level, you should run/drive the bike for about 15 minutes, then when you stop let it idle for one minute and then check the the level. What are your thoughts on that?
My bike has 85K and I drain 4 litters and put 4 litters back and I forget about checking oil, till next time I have to change the oil. hopefully, this helps.
Hi, i'm brand new to motorcycles and have a 2005 Road King Silverado. So, I need to take off TWO drain plugs to drain all the engine oil? Is this with all motorcycles, or just this model? Remember, i'm brand new to this. Thanks for your help!! :)
Hi, Brad if you have same engine than yes 2 x drain plugs, this is not for all motorcycles each makes and model is maybe different, this one has 2 x drain plugs.
hello,, i ve question,, I use PCMO 10w40 APISN/CF,ACEA A3/B4 on my honda 110 4T scooter, factory recomended oil is 10w30 JASO MB, i feel smoother than factory oil, and my engine valve look clean from deposit. is it any effect for my engine later?
Roger Weron Well,, im afraid, because i use oil out of factory specification, by the way i have use those oil about 2600Km, and nothing problem until now 😁 thanks roger.
Nice bike buddy!! Quick question, which is the part number or model of that oil filter?? I never change the oil of my R* by myself, so I don’t know how to buy it. Thanks
May way to check the oil, this is thay way I have been doing for years and never had a problem, In the Forums thay said to drain the oil and put 4L back in and not to warry to check tha oil.
Have you had any problems with your clutch slipping cause of the oil you use. I have the same bike with 30,000 miles last oil change the clutch slips on hard acceleration. The dealer told me that was normal. R bikes clutch and primary use the same oil from the engine tank. I found that the factory oil yamalube is incorrect. A wet clutch should use oil with NO friction modifiers .Read the yamalube its states it has friction modifiers. I changed my oil to lucus or amsoil and my clutch slipping stop. The factory and dealer tells us to use the wrong oil so we spend $ on a clutch we dont really need. Also had oil leaking from the breather after oil changes. The manaul states add 4.2 qts of oil. If you do .check the stick level and line it up with the breather on the left under the side cover. You'll see the level is higher then the breaker. The dealer also told me this is normal. I say bullshit.
Clutch slipping is normal? Maybe the guy that told you that needs to find another line of work. Didnt know Yamalube had friction mods. I use Shell Rotella 15-40 Dino oil 65K miles,,,
Never use K&N. Such a horrible company for filters since they out sourced to china. there is a reason tracks dont allow them. Go with Hi Flo if you want a good oil filter.

Dropped the bike to take as much oil as possible, since one of the oil drain bolts are on the side, and yes it helps to drain.

Yes, follow the instructions and you be fine.

I change my oil every 5000km or 3000 miles
