The Prince Of Egypt Movie Description:
The Prince of Egypt is a 1998 American animated musical drama film produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by DreamWorks Pictures. The first feature film from DreamWorks to be traditionally animated and their second overall, it is an adaptation of the first fourteen chapters of the Book of Exodus and follows the life of Moses from being a prince of Egypt to a prophet of the Lord, chosen by God to carry out his ultimate destiny of leading the Hebrews out of Egypt. The film was directed by Brenda Chapman, Steve Hickner, and Simon Wells (in Chapman and Hickner's feature directorial debuts) with a screenplay written by Philip LaZebnik. It features songs written by Stephen Schwartz and a score composed by Hans Zimmer. The voice cast consists of Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.
Jeffrey Katzenberg had frequently suggested an animated adaptation of the 1956 film The Ten Commandments while working for The Walt Disney Company, and he decided to put the idea into production after leaving Disney and co-founding DreamWorks Pictures in 1994. To make the project, DreamWorks employed artists who had worked for Walt Disney Feature Animation and Amblimation, totaling a crew of 350 people from 34 countries. The film has a blend of traditional animation and computer-generated imagery, created using software from Toon Boom Animation and Silicon Graphics.
The film was released in theaters on December 18, 1998, and on home video on September 14, 1999. Reviews were generally positive; critics particularly praised the visuals, songs, score, and voice acting. The film grossed $218 million worldwide in theaters, which made it the most successful non-Disney animated feature at the time. The film's success led to the direct-to-video prequel and spin-off Joseph: King of Dreams (2000), and a stage musical adaptation which opened in London's West End in 2020.
The song "When You Believe" became a commercially successful single in a pop version performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, and went on to win Best Original Song at the 71st Academy Awards, making it the first animated film independently outside of Disney and Pixar films, as well as the first DreamWorks Animation film to receive two nominations and win one at the Academy Awards, succeeded by Shrek (2001) and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005). The film also won the inaugural Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Animated Feature, in a tie with Disney and Pixar's A Bug's Life.
In retrospective years since its release, the film has been widely acclaimed and regarded as DreamWorks' magnum opus, and one of the greatest animated films of all time.

The Jewish people observe Passover every year to this day in remembrance of the night the Angel of the Lord passed over the doors marked with the blood of the lambs that were prepared on that first Passover supper. Their salvation from death by the shedding of a lambs blood is symbolic of what Christ would do many years later through His sacrifice on the cross.

You HAVE to check out the soundtracks for this movie! It was such a big deal. They released 3 I think. The movie soundtrack then one with Whitney, Mariah Carrey, boys 2;men, Michele phifer, .... And then a county version! All amazing I was 15 when this came out and I was so obsessed with the music. Think I had all 3 on c.d. if anything I'm atheist and I still love this. It's a beautiful move.

Fun fact:
The reason why Moses went to talk to Ramses before the final plague to convince him one final time, was because God told Moses that Ramses himself would choose what the final plague would be.
So when he goes on that rant, threatening to reenact his father's crime, Moses was trying to stop him because he *knew* what he was about to say and that would have been God's que to *finally* take the gloves off.

Not to be that "ackchewally" guy, but the reason the plagues were what they were was because they were each an affront to a different god in the Egyptian Pantheon, proving the divinity of the Hebrews' God.
The Nile river being turned to blood was an insult to Ea, the goddess of water, etc.
The Egyptians regarded Pharaoh as a reincarnation of Ra; his inability to protect his own son would prove his claim to godhood as false.

At work some people knew I wasn't a religious person and I mentioned at some point how much I love this movie and one of my coworkers was surprised. I'm just like "That movie is a work of pure art, you don't have to be religious to appreciate it."

To anyone reading this, Jesus Christ Loves you so much that HE died for you all to save you all from eternal death and suffering. And HES calling you all to a relationship with HIM. All you need to do is to Believe in HIM with all of your Heart that HE died for all of youre sins meaning (past,present,future sins) and believe that HE rose again on the Third Day then you will be saved. Does that mean that i can now do anything i want, no. When you are now saved in Jesus Christ, you are now renewed in HIM meaning your old self (sins, darkness, lusts) are all gone For Jesus Christ has now renewed you and when you are now saved, you start a relationship with HIM, so that you may know HIM more and know about HIS words and commands which are in the BIBLE and aswell most importantly you can apply GODS words into your Life and Make GODS words your lamp to your feet and to your path and your guidance on How to Live life. And some might say i need to be clean (sinless) to come to Jesus Christ but thats not the Case, Because GOD Himself when you come to HIM will transform you and renew you, but does that mean that i will not sin again?, no but thats why you need to have full total Faith in GOD so that you will not sin against HIM and you will be all set. This movie may just be the greatest thing DreamWorks has ever released in terms of pure cinematic scale. The animation is incredible, it follows the story as written in the Bible almost verbatim, the score is perfect, (infact, this movie won an Oscar for Best original score,) and the bond, turned rivalry, turned hatred between Moses and Rameses was so fantastically and maturely written. Nothing the studio has released since has quite topped this in terms of pure cinematic scale.
Actually, it deviates from the bible quite a lot. Aaron performed most of the miracles Moses performs in Prince of Egypt and Aaron spoke on Moses’ behalf. They weren’t estranged as the movie depicts.
Like the other guy said this film has a lot of issues in terms of being true to The Bible.
Also, it didnt win Best Score, it only won Best Song...

2:29 Fun fact, the woman singing the voice of Moses's mother in the opening was SO captivating, that the film crews hired her do the part in different language dubs, which required her learning the song in those different languages.
Edit: Just a fun note, in the original, it was actually Pharaoh's grown daughter who found the baby. She took it to her father, who knew it was a Hebrew baby, but she essentially asked her Dad "aww, can I keep it?" And her Dad was like, "[sigh] FINE..."
The Pharaoh was obsessed with Moses as a baby because Moses was a beautiful child, the Pharaoh kissed him and hugged him filled with "baby fever"...
That was when he was a baby though...
My headcanon for the movie is that the Queen told Seti that the gods used the river to send us another son, and you won't disrespect the gods, so we're keeping the kid and that's final. And Seti was just, "ok, sure, after all we don't like blasphemy in this house."

Looking through heaven’s eye is my favorite song. I’m not spiritual but something about the song makes me rethink my views.

Fun facts about this movie:
• in the Bible, Miriam (sister) goes to watch over him as he went down the Nile and made sure he was safe and when the Pharaoh’s daughter saw her, she was able to get Moses’s mother to take care of him as his nurse until he was old enough.
• 32:24 The four-minute parting of the Red Sea sequence took ten animators two years to complete.
• The voice of God, to avoid controversy, was played by all of the major actors. The actors were told to whisper the lines, so none would dominate the performance, but by the time they got around to having Val Kilmer read his lines, they realized they needed someone to be louder. You still can hear the rest of the cast whispering beneath Kilmer's voice in God's lines.
• When Moses enters the cave with the burning bush, God tells him to take off his sandals, for he is standing on holy ground. But when Moses leaves the cave, he doesn't put his sandals back on, and is barefoot for the rest of the movie.
• Ofra Haza recorded her famous "River Lullaby" while singing to a baby doll, to allow herself to express as much emotion as possible. Ofra Haza performed the voice of Yocheved in 17 of the 20+ languages in which this movie was dubbed, pronouncing the words of the languages she did not speak phonetically.
• This movie is banned in Malaysia, Maldives, Indonesia, and Egypt. But it was later released on video dvd format in Indonesia.
• Changes were made to the story to make it work as an animated feature. Here is a short list of differences between the movie and the Biblical account of Exodus. 1. Moses was adopted by Pharaoh's daughter, not his wife. 2. Moses killed the Egyptian slave master. The words used in Hebrew suggest this was not done intentionally. 3. Aaron supported Moses from the beginning, and even helped perform some of the miracles of God. Aaron did not doubt Moses. 4. It was Aaron who turned his staff into a snake, and turned the water of the Nile to blood, not Moses.
• The filmmakers have suggested that it is possible that Rameses II (Ralph Fiennes) died when the Red Sea closed, and that his final line ("Moses!") is imagined by Moses (Val Kilmer) as wishful thinking. This is why they appear on-screen at the same time during that moment.
• Steven Spielberg insisted that the film end on Moses carrying the Ten Commandments.

@@itspronouncedbear it’s because the religions in those places forbid the depiction of a prophet i.e. Moses. In Egypt is is considered a poor depiction and doesn’t show any kind of story about the exodus.
The scene where the Angel comes to take the Egyptian firstborns is still one of the most haunting and powerful scenes in cinema to me. The silence, that white, cold light in the night flowing ruthlessly through the city, how it silently and quickly steals lives... and then the screams and cries begin. Terrifying. I'm glad they had Moses crumble and sob at the end, because he won his people's freedom but also at the cost of innocent lives, and that's never a good thing.
I used to tear up when this scene played. This made me realize something could be both beautiful and awful at the same time.
Fun Fact: Why God specifically chose the firstborn child is because he pardons children and allows them in heaven, following the age of accountability, which usually a kid doesn't understand until they're older.

Not only that, but it makes sense as the Creator created Man in His Image. So it yes, stands to reason that God’s voice in coming forth from the Burning Bush would sound like every other human voice to the ears of the mortal listening.
Fun fact. The Ancient Egyptians shaved their heads to keep lice away, and wore wigs instead.
And they probably didn’t harm Moses BECAUSE he was found on the river. The Nile was considered sacred, and since he had survived the crocodiles and the hippos, and just not drowning, they probably thought he was sent by the god, Hapi, who personified the river.
So killing him would have been seen as an insult to the gods, and adopted him into the family instead.

Hearing Ramses cry out to Moses at the end always broke my heart. I never took it as him yelling out of anger, but him begging for the only family he had left to come back. His father words haunted him to the point he saw beyond reason, and it cost him everything.
I always liked the 'call back' to when Moses first left Rameses behind. It is almost an exact repetition of words and sounds and both are heartbreaking.
Same, I pity him. He lost so much...
Historically speaking the Egyptians took Moses betrayal hard. All mention of his name was stripped from history. They literally carved out his hieroglyphs.

From a storytelling perspective, the best decision the writers made was honing in on the brothers’ relationship and instead of going for the classic rivalry where Moses and Rameses were always at odds, making it one that was filled with love…because then watching it all fall apart becomes tragic and heartbreaking. Even if you know the story and the outcome, you hope it doesn’t turn out as badly as it does because it’s not fun or satisfying to watch the love turn to enmity - its just sad, and emphasizes the weight of what’s happening but on a deeply personal level.
Funny the story doesn't end at parting of the sea.

I'm a Hindu Indian, but not religious at all. I was really young when I first watched this. This soundtrack itself was almost like a spiritual experience for me.

It works so well for non-religious as well because god is for the most part just a means to an end. The conflict is the oppression of the Hebrews, the identity crisis and guilty conscience of Moses and the clash he and his brother end up having where you can feel sympathy for both, even though one is very much in the wrong.
And that's simply good drama.

The Ten Plagues of Egypt (In Order):
1. The Nile River and all fresh water is turned to blood.
2. Frogs emerge from the Nile and invade homes.
3. The Egyptians are infected with lice and pestered by gnats.
4. The Egyptian homes are overrun with flies and bugs.
5. All livestock in Egypt die.
6. The Egyptians (Including the Pharoah) are inflicted with painful boils.
7. Flaming Hail rains down from heaven, destroying many homes and monuments.
8. Locusts devour all remaining plants, sending Egypt into a devastating famine.
9. Egypt is covered in total darkness for 3 Days.
10. The firstborn boys of all homes in Egypt that are not marked with lamb's blood are killed.
The Israelites are spared from all of these plagues. There is also a substantial significance in the choice of plagues too, as all of the plagues correspond to a god in the Egyptian pantheon, to demonstrate God's total superiority over the Egyptians. For example, The Nile turning to blood is a direct shot to the Egyptian god Hopi, and the Sun being blotted for 3 days is a shot at the god Ra. The final plague is a shot at the Pharoah (considered a god by the Egyptians). By killing Pharoah's firstborn son and thus ending his bloodline, God establishes his superiority over the entire Egyptian pantheon of gods AND their godly leader, while ALSO getting justice for the hundreds of years of slavery the Egyptians had inflicted on the Israelites.
9:35 one of my favorite throwaway lines in the film is when Steve Martin goes, "OH! My new THING!!"
Two fun facts:
1) Ofra Haza, the voice actress for Yocheved (Moses' biological mother, whose name may vary depending on the translation), sang her own vocals in 17 different languages for the various foreign releases.
2) This film was animated using a mix of hand-drawn and CGI, which was later used by Disney when they made Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet. This was also made a few years before those, so that might be why the animation for things such as the basket baby Moses is put in or the stone tablets at the end might look a little weird.

Disney was already experimenting w/ computer animation in the early 90s. Such as the ballroom dance in Beauty and the Beast, as well as the cave collapse in Aladdin.
Third fun fact: the animators redrew her to look like Ofra Haza because of how beautiful she was
The first dub of the movie I saw was in my native language, Finnish, and I remember listening to Ofra Haza's singing thinking her accent is too real to be fake but her Finnish pronunciation is way too good to be non-native. What she did is so impressive!
It occurred to me at some point that the reason the Nile river turned into blood was symbolic because that's where the Egyptians threw all the babies when they killed them. So, in God's eyes, I guess that river was already blood.

I had always had the idea that the blood is actually the blood of the children they slaughtered. I don't know if that is supported Biblically, but it's interesting symbolically and thematically.
so while the symbolism of the story is nice, the river turning red, not into blood but red, actually happened. all of the 10 plagues actually did happen but they are the result of a volcanic eruption in the mediterranean sea. the falling burning rocks are pumice, the red river is volcanic chemicals mixing with the water, the frogs leave the river because the water is now poisonous, the bugs overpopulated because the fish and frogs in the river that normally ate them died or left and thus the swarms. the bugs, poisonous volcanic gasses, and sulfur in the air from the volcano making acid rain brought the boils to the people. the animals dying was the lack of food caused by the bugs as well as the diseases the bugs brought plus also acid rain and poisonous air and water. and finally the death of the first born is because the injured, young, and elderly were having to stay inside for safety but food still had to be gotten, water had to be brought in, and work still had to be done so the strong oldest sons of each family had to take care of those things bringing them in more contact with danger to their lives.
oh and also that volcano exploding was the cause of the myth of Atlantis as around that volcano had been a prosperous city state. the whole island that their city state was built on exploded under their feet when the volcano blew.

Later on, darkness covered the sky because Ra the sun god is one of the most powerful gods in Egypt and is now made powerless.

A funny detail I noticed in this movie is that whenever rameses has a problem... he always ends up in the lap of his father's statue. Even as a grown ass man.

Real Talk: This may be one of the greatest animated movies of all time. Everything about it is absolutely captivating. As a kid when this came out, I cried a little as it affirms and commands so much of how the story is told. It is still a movie that should be shown to every generation that will ever come as an example of the faith that hundreds of millions of people share.
I got to see this in the theater with my Mom, Grandma and aunties. It was so great on the big screen. I still love this movie. I know it’s not “accurate” but it’s so good. The music, the animation. I love it. “A single thread in a tapestry, Though its color brightly shines, can never see its purpose in the pattern of the grand design…” is probably my favorite line in the songs. And I love the 2 priests. They’re hilarious and ridiculous 😂

A super interesting making of fact I haven't seen mentioned yet: they brought in religious leader consultants from a bunch of different faiths to advise on how to make the movie true to the story. I don't know much about the Christian or Muslim advisors, but the Jewish advisor was a rabbi and one of the foremost experts on Hebrew Bible and Midrash (interpretive stories based on Bible).
Also, the few times the characters are singing in a different language, it's Biblical Hebrew. The Hebrew bits during "When you Believe" are from the Song of the Sea from the Bible, that the Israelites sung after they crossed the sea. The words mean "I will sing to God for God has truly triumphed. Who is like you among the gods my Lord? Who is like You, awesome in holiness? In Your love You lead the people You redeemed."
I watched this many times during Passover ever since I was kid and not only is this movie my childhood, but it's one of the greatest animated films ever made. I'm so proud you're getting to see this masterpiece of filmmaking and storytelling. This movie is a reminder that animation is not always a genre for kids. It's a medium that can tell dark mature themes. Animation is cinema.

I’m an atheist and this is one of my favorite films. So many great songs that I listen to now and then. It is a great piece of art, music, and poetry.
This is one of THE best animated movies of all time, a perfect example of how you adapt and change a story to focus on a really important message, not hammering it home, but making it part of an overall beautiful narrative. The songs and voice performances are masterclass, as is the directing and editing, this movie is even better than the best Disney movies of the time (Disney renaissance Era), and none has come close ever since then. - Sadly we lost Ofra Haza way too soon, she was one of the best Israeli-Singers and Songwriters ever, and her voice in this movie shines so brightly (she even spoke and sung her lines in dozens of languages worldwide, so she is the only constant single voice worldwide, which is just AMAZING!). - And yes, I have NEVER ever seen such a star studded cast in any movie ever (Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Danny Glover, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Martin Short and probably some I forgot).
In the British museum is a parchment found in Egypt, of the 10 plagues, written by an Egyptian scribe from when the Exodus happened. There were many Egyptians who came to believe on Yahovah (God of the Bible) who covered their doors and left with Moses and the Hebrews and follow God. My family goes back to Manasseh, who was 1/2 Isra’el and Egyptian, son of Joseph (who was an Isra’elite slave to 2nd in command under pharaoh of his day). The story has some things missing but the jist of it is here. Hans is amazing, glad you enjoyed this, good review!
I was really hoping that was the case. It's like when Rahab, her tavern, and her family were saved from destruction by hanging a red scarf on the door, or was it window sill? Any-who, the scarf was symbolic of lambs blood and provided them the same protection and mercy. Rahab even earned herself a place in the line of Yahshua. 34:18 you're right. Moses would've been 80 when he went back to Egypt to free the Hebrews. There were several things that weren't accurate to the Exodus story, but for me, as a believer, that doesn't bother me. They kept very true to the core message and actually was more accurate than other adaptations. It's such a beautifully crafted movie. It's truly a masterpiece😊

This movie is a masterpiece and has one of the best soundtracks in cinema history. Absolutely amazing film.
As someone who isn't Christian, Prince of Egypt does something beautiful which is makes such a compelling story that brings anyone to tears.
They show how hard it is to go against what you may have known your whole life. I love that they don't shy away from how cruel the plagues were and the pure pain Moses and Ramses feel as they see someone who they believe was their brother turn into someone they don't recognize.
Plus Ramses is severely damaged by that pressure put on by his father i imagine.
At animation school, we would get "Bibles" showing turn-arounds, character development, objects that will go into it etc. We got this movies bible 6 months before it came out. There was barely anyone in the theater, which was good, because us nerds cried our eyes out! Also, one of our teachers helped corriographed the dance scenes AND did the background of the construction of Ramases!
DreamWorks wanted to respect the story so there are no toys nor ads!

Regardless of religion, this movie is a fantastic story. Two brothers, torn apart by the actions of their father, dealing with the painful realization that sometimes estrangement is inevitable. Especially when one sibling never recognizes the wrongdoings of the parent they protect. The music is amazing, the design and animation is amazing, the acting is on point, and I know that it's practically pulled directly from the sources, but the writing is phenomenal. No other adaptation has made me feel like Moses still cared about what happened to Rameses the way this one does. I'm really glad you checked it out. My other favorite DreamWorks movie is The Road To El Dorado
This is my favorite animated film of all time, I'd put it up against anything Disney ever did and it would win every time, the voice cast and songs are all fantastic, "The Plagues" is my favorite sequence, really ups the ante and perfectly showcases the struggles Moses and Rameses face as they're pitted against each other

I am absolutely in love with this movie! I was absolutely blown away by how good it is! This is the best adaptation of the story of Moses and it made me have more of an appreciation for the story! This is one of DreamWorks' few hand drawn animated films and it looks awesome and beautiful! This movie is also a musical and I love every song in it! Probably my favorite animated musical. All the actors did an excellent job! I honestly can't think of anything bad about this movie! It is one of my favorite animated movies of all time!
Because I’m Jewish, I really do have a gigantic soft spot for this movie. I absolutely love it, I consider it a masterpiece. I consider it the best cinematic representation of the Exodus story. I love how it elevates the story between Moses and Pharaoh to the level of Shakespearean tragedy by showing how they really were brothers, how much they truly loved each other, and how much neither wanted to be in this position. (“And even now I wish that God had chose another serving as your foe on his behalf is the last thing that I wanted”, “You who I called brother, how could you have come to hate me so? Is this what you wanted?”)
I think it’s just a great movie. And I do think the relationship between the brothers really is the heart and soul of this movie and what makes it work so well.
This film will probably be in my top 10 forever. There's just nothing that could have been done better. Every single image, every scenery, the dialogues, both in the text and in the emotional emphasis, the music - everything is simply on point. But what always blows me away the most is the facial expressions, which they did so masterfully. Above all, the clearly visible determination of Moses as he rides back into Egypt.
One of my favourite moments in this movie is during the boils part of the plagues sequence where they show an Egyptian mother and son hiding in a corner looking terrified, not affected by the boils. I LOVE this part, because there were Egyptians along the way that chose to follow God and believe in Him, and therefore were spared from the Plagues. The detail in this movie is immaculate.
The Angel of Death scene was just as terrifying in The Ten Commandments film…but that shot of the souls departing, leaving Orion the Hunter visible in the sky…

I am religious and I love this movie. I honestly wish more movies like this were made out of Bible stories. There’s so many incredible ones!
Because most of them are dark, tragic, and violent to the point where it puts Game of Thrones to shame. But there is one show where it tells the story about the journey of Jesus's disciples after his resurrection and ascension that's pretty decent.

@@dragonsman4733 The problem with the Chosen is that God Himself hates it. He has led certain people to stop watching it. Check that out on UA-cam. There have been deconstructions of the Chosen, which show it's corrupting the character of Jesus and making Him be contrary to Scripture, i.e. to the true Jesus. And that because of this, it is teaching a false Jesus, which is highly destructive to the faith, and inducts people into the reality of the antichrist.

Movie traditions, like religious traditions, are often contrary to the Bible's statements, instructions and prophecies, and that always creates doors for evil to enter and do what it does best: do evil in the name of God, and tarnish the name of God in they eyes of man, so that people by their own choices reject God in droves, because they are all deceived to think God is responsible, by attributing evil to Him instead of where it truly comes from: the heart of man, and the heart of Satan and his angels.
I heard somewhere that, in the scene where God spoke to Moses, they had most the cast read God's lines individually. Once they were finished the voices were mixed together, with Val Kilmers' voice being the most prominent, creating the echoing sound of God.
I watch this around Easter pretty frequently. I wasn't raised in a super religious household, but it has always been a part of my life. This is one of the greatest things DreamWorks ever made, and it's a shame that they were a little too focused on competing with Disney to keep putting out amazing stuff like this.

My earliest memory was when I was 2 years old. I was running across the kitchen floor at my grandma's house and a mouse ran out in front of me. I stepped on it and it tripped me. The next memory was when I was about 4.
This movie is one of my favorites. And my earliest memory is when I was learning to walk. I remember holding onto the coffee table, looking up at the clock and then fell on my butt. And then my late great-grandma's Doberman Pincher Sheba came to check on me, put her cold nose to my chest and ran off and then my grandma lifting me up to her. After that, I don't remember much of anything before I was 3. And Heaven's Eyes and the Plagues song are some of my favorites of this movie.

Like, setting the book version aside, it just makes you think about moms. Moms in history in an impossible situation. Mothers now too, in impossible situations. Someone bad is coming to kill your baby, your infant Right Now. What do you do? She doesn’t know this river is a path to safety. Even setting religion aside and she’s “praying something good will come”. She’s essentially choosing to kill her baby on her terms and by putting him to sleep peacefully or as peacefully as she can. Send him down a river. That kind of choice and that kind of terror and pain I just always thought was so beautifully captured. And the cry she gives after her river lullaby, as if she’s wailing to the sky with all the grief of a mother who has had to just doom her infant on her terms so someone else doesn’t kill them cruelly. Shattering.
The one thing that they left out in this movie is that, the mother actually got to spend her days with her son as his nurse for the queen and it was thanks to his sister.

I mean, the movie did take some creative liberties. The point of not showing Moses’ mother after the intro was to show the devastation of her giving up her son so he could escape and hopefully live a much better life, not knowing the queen of Egypt would happily take him in as her own son.

I have a friend who had a not so great upbringing due to their family's religious beliefs, and as a result is not a fan Christianity. That same friend will talk to anyone that will listen about how this is one of their all time favorite movies, and how everyone should watch it at least once. Dreamworks truly created something special when they made this movie.

I had the privilege of watching this in the cinema when released, that opening is by far the most powerful movie sequence i've ever experienced and i didn't have a single moment where i wasn't completely immersed while watching.

This is one of the best NON DISNEY animated films I have ever watched, and I LOVE DISNEY! The songs The Plagues and When You Believe (not the Whitney Houston Mariah Carey version). The animation was freakin' spectacular, especially when it got to the burning bush and the parting of the sea.

This movie is honestly an underrated masterpiece. The animation is gorgeous, the story incredibly adapted for this medium, and the MUSIC... They didn't need to go as hard as they did, but it's clear there was a great deal of passion behind this project.

Not even religious and this movie is still one of my favorites. I will have this playlist blasting from my car speakers and it still brings me to tears. ALSO, my biggest surprise was finding out the voice actress for Miriam (Moses' sister) is voiced by Sandra Bullock

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Everything, the voice acting, directing, the script, the score, there is nothing that doesn't make this movie phenomenal. Glad you watched this man. Good film for sure
My favourite songs are when Moses meets God in form of a burning bush. You have to listen to just the soundtrack without the voices. It's haunting and beautiful.
The other one is the River lullaby. I catch myself singing or humming it every once in a while.

I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEE this movie, literally one of my favorites along with another amazing one which is 'Joseph King of Dreams'. The style is exactly like this along with the music, it truly brings out the meanings to both movies as well as tears lol. If you haven't seen it you definitely should!!
I love this movie. I actually was reading about Prince of Egypt yesterday. I absolutely love this movie. Growing up going to church regularly. I watched this movie often. This year is 25th anniversary of this movie.
When this first came out I saw it in the theaters. 10 Seconds into the opening music and I was choked up.

It's fun to watch people who aren't extremely familiar with the Bible react to this. Kinda like watching folks who aren't anime fans react to One Piece.
I watched this as a kid (not super young, of course), and by that time, I was already very familiar with the Bible story. So I knew why Moses was put into the water, and why Aaron wasn't. (When I watched as a kid, the death and such didn't feel as real. I mean, yeah, it was real to me... but naïveté protected me from the full impact. Same goes for multiple Bible stories.)
34:20 - Yep, Moses was old. Eighty years old, based on Bible reckoning. Forty when he left Egypt the first time. (I sometimes wonder if their calendar was a bit different, when I see the ages in the Bible. Or if they rounded up and down for poetic reasons. Moses's life was split neatly into forties.)

37:40 - All the disclaimers asking people to be civil in the comments... I've seen multiple people react to this, and it seems like the comment sections are all peaceful. We're all united by appreciation for an excellent movie. The biggest discord may be the book versus movie stuff. They took artistic license with several things-compressing the timeline, developing characters/adding scenes to enhance portrayal of characters, leaving out Aaron's big role in speaking for Moses, etc. The book adapted is the BIBLE, and "Bible fans" are still less "well, actually" about it than LOTR fans often are. :)
Spot on with Moses' age! And yes, it's possible his ages are poetic/symbolic - almost all numbers explicitly listed in the Bible are highly symbolic, because the "meaning" of numbers was usually more important to ancient cultures than their numerical accuracy. 40 is a super important number Biblically, especially as it relates to the Exodus (I mean seriously, practically everything is in 40s), but it shows up repeatedly throughout the Bible and frequently is meant to call back to the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years after they refused to enter the promised land the first time. Though your comment shows you're at least somewhat familiar with the Bible/Biblical discussions/the Exodus, so... you probably already knew all this. Sorry. 😅

It's very likely that I've heard about the connection, but I admit that I usually forget discussions about significant numbers and what they symbolize. I can remember and point out some numbers and their connections (Jesus's 40 days and nights in the desert is very relevant here), but it's not been a focus in my studies. Numbers are slippery for me, and I'm pretty sure all the biblical numbers I remember are from stories and passages I'd heard/read many times before I even turned 10.
I can tell you the connections between other things (covenants throughout the Bible, for example). But numbers? Ehhh...
I appreciate the reminder of the symbolic/poetic use of numbers throughout the Bible. It's relevant to my recent reflections on how we interpret Scripture. :)
Really shows how a parent’s words can have a negative or positive long term impact on their child. Also this movie shows how some people vote and behave a certain way until it actually impacts them personally. Moses didn’t view those enslaved as such and didn’t give them a second thought until he found out the truth. The records of what his father did were always there.
