    Your compositions, the way you used the time of day to paint light, where you chose to stand, your lens choices. Brother, what’s really shines here is you (and the team)
    The lenses are great and I may buy them, but for anyone reading this, it takes experience and skill to make these lenses look like this. Impeccable.

      I appreciate your comment! It's funny, we actually didn't have that much control when we could film. Some days we were up early to catch the light, other days we were at the whim of mid day or park rules. But it is our job to find the best light - especially in a run and gun style.

    its easier to make a "clinical" lens less clinical, than a "characterful" lens clinical. Most of the work I do calls for a cleaner look, for the jobs when I do need something with more character, like you said, I can use some sort of an optical element to change it. Can't wait for the full review, really like how these look already!

      @@CineDailies it shouldn't really matter too much. People think stuff like K35, Superspeeds, Leica R, Olympus OM etc. is popular because they have 'funky' bokeh, flares, halation or lower contrast but there is pop and image separation that just seems missing from so many of these cheaper lens sets. It is of course difficult to explain exactly what that X factor is but I think there's something to be said for the companies that have figured out how to make 'clean' lenses that still have that dimensionality to them. stuff like tokina vista, signature/master primes and zeiss supremes come to mind. sure, there is merit to having cheap and cheerful lens that is easy to work with but I don't agree that you can add some of the character back through filtration or other means. Your test footage is presented well which is why I feel comfortable commenting on the aesthetic of the lenses specifically.
      Thanks for taking the time to respond :)

    These range of Nisi lenses will wipe the floor of the competition for at least the near future if I have to guess. They are pretty close to or intelligible from what you can get from the established names' lenses that cost anywhere from 3-4 times or over 10 times as much but clearly a class above all of the budget sub-$1K Chinese lenses or comparably priced still photography lenses in the market today. They remind me very much of the Sony Cinealta line of Super-35 T2.0 set of lenses (probably made by Cosina) I used back nearly 10 years ago on the Canon C100 and some Sony cinema cameras later on such the FS5. Superb build quality, good to excellent resolution for those sub-10 megapixel video specific camera sensors, near zero distortion, near zero to nil focus breathing, no noticeable chromatic aberrations, lateral or longitudinal, no noiceable vignetting at the full T2.0, consistent color rendition, and mostly flawless bokeh rendition (no color fringing edges, no onion rings or flaw spots etc.) They were quite reasonably priced too. Significantly cheaper than comparable lenses from Zeiss or Canon but not as low as these Nisi lens.

    • @CineDailies
      @CineDailies  10 місяців тому

      Vignetting is an interesting thing. When filming wide open on lenses that have a large image circle, you'll encounter vignetting. Once you stop down, the illumination will be more even across the frame.
      putting a screw in the filter on the 14 mill is a little tricky, but I haven’t had any issues with the map box with vignetting
