I've had the same issue. Are you in the UK - challenge them under consumer rights legislation with proof that this is a widespread issue. It's a total joke !

I had this scare with my Apple Pencil generation 2 and it wasn’t showing the battery percentage or working. And when I restarted my iPad it said that I was on do not disturb mode so I turned it off and after I did my Apple Pencil immediately started working again
This was SUPER helpful thank you. I was on a long train journey and my pencil was stuck at 0%. I started reading all these scary posts about if you let your pencil drain to 0% it will totally die. I hadn’t used it in a while, but this has never happened since I got it in 2018, so i was quite surprised, and we dreading having to fork out £139 (YES gone up in price INSANELY).
I tried such a simple thing that you first suggested - restarting the iPad. And voila! I should know this as someone who works in tech, but I just hadn’t thought about the charging circuit in the actual iPad because I was so floored by all the posts I was reading (and never had this happen or seen it in almost 5 yrs!) .
Remember guys, for ALL tech: try switching it off and on first!!!
For how many days did you keep the battery at 0%. I have not charged my pencil for almost 2 weeks and it is now charging very slowly.

Your battery is probably dead for good. You have to be charging your Apple pencil constantly because there is a very tiny lithium battery that easily degrades over time if it isn't getting regular charges. There's no way to economically replace this battery. I found out the hard way. I left it for a period with no usage (I hardly used it before that) and it died. Apple should really put that it needs to be charged even if you don't use it in large bold print somewhere inside the package. Not everyone is an engineer who knows about these things.

I had an incidence where it didn’t charge via mini ipad 6 even though battery widget says it was seen at 18%. I had a list of suspects: bluetooth had warned me that the logi k480 keyboard might interfere with other bluetooth device signals; the pencil; the logitech mouse did not cause bluetooth warning.
I did see it was already full charged when i placed it on the ipad pro m2. My pro ipad automatically picks up the mini’s hotspot. I don’t know if that is relevant or not that after that when i put the pencil back on the mini, it also saw it at 100%.
So weird.
Leaving myself notes so if this happens again, i’ll just disconnect the k480 and/or the mxmaster 3 mouse. I want to rule them out of the equation. That is unless there’s a whole other thing thrown in with iPadOS 18 in June.
By the way, I hadn’t used the k480 since a few months this 2024. Never ever saw that warning prior to today.

my 2nd gen. apple pencil stops charging at 98% ………Also disconnects automatically and discharges itself, while it is attached with my ipad………what can I do for it…..please anyone suggest me………I have also reboot my ipad and also paired again and again….but it always stops charging every time.

Well nothing helped for me i had same probem like yours, pencil was connected and everything but some angles it was working then stopped then again worked. What really makes it smooth again is i opened the tip and clean the inner part with alcohol swab and clean the tip with alcohol sab as well, it is working like butter now. If that video didn't help try this method and thank me later.

Hi, If you havent dropped it recently or any other chances of damages externally, then problem could be something internal. if all the suggested troubleshooting steps didnt help, then we have to check with apple service center once.

Dont worry, its still under warranty. so if you charged and still not working, then visit service center. they will replace the pencil if any defect identified.

Whacked it a couple times against a hard object and it started charging. Go figure.

My 2nd generation pencil; charges quickly, it is connected, no screen protector, I did remove and replace the tip, I dropped the pencil on the carpet and it just stopped working. I hope I do not need to repurchase one. Might only be the warranty that works.

The Apple pencil I have is probably the most disappointing product I have ever bought. It did pair with my iPad Pro but having been left for a while it now refuses to charge. The progress bar in the settings menu shows it apparently charging to 100% in a few minutes but unplugging it and reinserting it results in an immediate low battery warning. Apple's suggestion to simply buy another one is hardly helpful. Looking at the comments below reinforces my view that it is a very flawed product. Incidentally I have restarted the iPad, the battery status on the home screen is different to that seen in "settings" suggesting that they have a software issue too..
I agree. My Apple Pencil is not charging no matter what I do. I barely even used it. I didn't touch it for about a year and I'm guessing the battery is completely dead. I had no idea I had to keep charging it. Apple products should not do this. I just bought a cheapo one from Amazon that was on sale for $12. I normally don't support knock-off versions, but the exception is if the original product itself is poor quality/unfixable. Apple really needs to step it up. 😠
@@peachykeen3582 very frustrating, I used mine briefly just once, I have never liked Apple computers but have owned many iPods, iPhones and iPads. Stunts that Apple pulls with obsolescence are definitely encouraging me to consider other devices.

I did not use my pencil for a long time almost a year & now I tried to charge it , it’s connected & showing 0% battery 🪫 & waited for many hours still showing 0% ?? Idk why it was secured probably and condition is ok but it’s not charging tho it’s showing like it’s getting charging
You killed the battery, lithium batteries go bad when they are left dead. The apple pencil drains on its own. They're on sale right now for $90

Just got new iPad Air 2024 13” M2 chip. Apple 2 pencil. Nothing works. Total piece of shit. Apple has become just another cheap, garbage consumer brand product that sucks like most.
Going back to the store. Gotta reconsider my allegiance to Apple. I’ve had it.
for me it happend that the tip of the pencil was loose so i adjusted it and it worked like normal.
