    A couple of things have come up recently in the further expansion of 40K Lore, and both are pretty interesting. Most curious about peoples opinions around Part 2 which I think has potentially big implications - or perhaps not - who knows. I'll also hopefully soon have some showcases of the Indomitus box set both the Necron and Marines are nearing readiness.

    theres actually precedence for the sisters thing. when cawl used the pylon to “disconnect” the warp in cadia, he managed to banish all the demons in the planet. celestine was visibly affected by this which goes to show that they are connected to the warp in some way but she didnt disappear so that implies something else beside the warp is powering the sisters.

    • @Mogget01
      @Mogget01 Рік тому +3

      Destroying the pylons didn’t wipe out the people showing chaos corruption tho, it just dispersed the demons. I’m sure if Sanguinius had been there, he probably would have been rattled too. It seems like the knowledge the Emperor got from traveling to the warp had something to do with figuring out how to use the warp to shape organic matter, hence the Primarchs.

    Honestly, I still think the part about human faith overcomming the Necron Null Zone is just
    1. Ephrael Stern's doing(she overloaded a culexus assassin in the comics);
    2. A way too not make the null zone too OP and keep the plot going;
    3. Faith is so strong it manifests a connection to the warp anyway.
    tl/dr It's most likely just cheap writing.

    • @bc9402
      @bc9402 4 роки тому +61

      I agree it’s cheap writing, but the point about faith is still contradictory as there is a small excerpt in the 9th edition rule book about admech fighting in the pariah nexus, how if faith alone is enough to ward of the effects of the nexus, then surely the soldiers of the Omnissiah would be immune right?
      Apparently not.
      This bothers me both as an admech fan and from a writing perspective. Personally I would have just wrote to have necrons have complete control over that territory, and all the imperium can do is attempt to stop any further expansions. Let the necrons have some wins.

    I would have thought that the firstborns should have had 2 wounds from the start because they're super humans, so it doesn't make sense that they have the same wounds as a guardsman. I think it does also make sense in terms of lore, firstborns are only missing a few organ implants but in terms of surviving battle damage they still have the extra heart and lungs, the clotting etc. I don't think they're as powerful though, in terms of strength and speed the Primaris are probably still on top. Maybe they'll come up with a lore explanation that goes along the lines of Primaris are harder to make or they burn out a lot of aspirants during the process, so they have to test the aspirants further and see if they can do it. So, some become normal marines, some become the more powerful Primaris.

    • @deantimson5643
      @deantimson5643 4 роки тому +6

      Tabletop wise the big problem is toughness values. Giving units more lives is more damaging then making them harder to kill.
      I'm a death guard player and T5 is big boon. But the fact that regular space marines are S+T 4 mean that '4s' aren't good enough. Because standard weapons (bolters/shuriken/gauss etc) don't do more than 1 wound.
      This also stems from buy rate from races such as drukhari and imp guard. Ultimately, it's not worth buying/playing S/T 3 races when the game is now geared towards more elite games ie: quality over quantity.
      It's a shame. I'm not claiming there's an obvious solution, just that go figure the super soldier main characters have the edge.

    We have spent so long thinking of every strange effect in terms of psychic power that we have forgotten that the 40k universe is not so restricted.
    They have been hinting at this for a long time.
    Let's go back to the refresh of the Dark Eldar after years of neglect. GW made it clear that the Drukhari wielded powers impossible to explain, yet utterly absent of psychic sources. The old Asimov quote about advanced things you don't understand being comparable to magic was leaned on heavily.
    Next, the Crypteks of the Necrons and the C'Tan Star "Gods" were addressed in a similar way. It was clear that the warp was not involved, yet impossible, reality bending effects were summoned forth.
    And, now we have the Eclesiarchy... changing reality with faith while simultaneously eschewing the warp and all witches. It's not the first time world warping power has been outside the grasp of the psychic realm; It's just the first time they have been so "in your face" about it.

    The Chaos Gods call the Emperor "The Anathema" - which means he's an anti-God of sorts, or more properly, a God that could be created and exist in the material world rather than only in the Immaterium like themselves. I think perhaps he wasn't this thing back in 30k, but there have now been 10,000 years of Faith to make him what he is becoming*, and back then the Ruinous Powers knew what he could be one day. Btw, there's a kind of precedent for this in 40k lore (though not exactly the same) - the Orks and their certainty making things real in the material world.

    Although I'm rather "new" to the 40k lore universe, my first reaction to this data was the creation/appropriation of the webway on Terra by the Emperor. By all means that should allow for the creation of an alternative psychic zone, field, source, call it what you will with the Emperor holding the door or actually acting like some sort of filter, at least in the beginning. That new space, if it could be filled with some sort of starter energy, probably even "treated" so as not to be as reactive as the warp itself, or even being actively filtered/purged by the Emperor, the golden throne device or any other safeguard, would provide a reservoir to which humanity could be slowly, but surely linked up, probably on birth or maybe through indoctrination and manipulation. It would provide a safe conduit for power, while also having the benefits of disconnection with the warp. By its own nature, inherited from the original webway, it should somewhat easier to circumvent these "null zones" created by the pillars, although I am assuming the the connection between said human and this new zone work similarly to webway portals. Not implying that this is some kind of grand plan by the Emperor tho, as I see it as more of making the best out of a bad situation, although his initial plan might've been to separate humanity from the warp.
    Don't really know how well all of that speculation lines up with the lore, as I said, rather "new" to 40k, but it was the first thing that crossed my mind.

    You're overcomplicating the wound situation. Ask yourself; Is a Space Marine closer to a Guardsman, or a Primaris Marine? On a scale from 1 (Guardsman) to 10 (Primaris) I'd argue it's around the 8,5 mark and it's certainly beyond 5, so obviously it makes sense for them to have similar health/toughness. Even if they hype up the shiny boys, they're not a league better than their older brethren.
    Mechanically 40k is too dakkadakka so they're likely increasing wounds and toughness on some things to flatten it out a bit. Also Mini Marines will undoubtedly go up to almost match their NuMarine counterparts.
    Here are two very easy explanations for the Sisters Mary-Sue'ing their way through a nullifier bubble:
    1. Some humans are or can become psychic batteries that store warp energy, rather than being conduits or lenses that the warp can travel through. Maybe Sisters learn to siphon a little every day, to release it in moments of vulnerability or great stress.
    In other words they don't reach outside the null bubble, they just draw from their own stored energy, but can only do it by going through something traumatic or via rituals.
    It's a hell of a lot more reasonable than "LOL GOD AND MAGIC EXISTS NOW CHECKMATE ATHEISTS".
    2. eVeRyThiNG iS cAnOn, nOt EvErYtHinG iS tRue. GW's magical words to make up shit on the fly to tell an interesting story.
    Ephreal Stern turned on her vox-caster, plus a couple of high tech lamps on her shoulders and then declared they weren't beaten. Guardsmen saw it as angelic wings and felt inspired. So they passed on the story. It's not a perfect explanation, what with the Necron's side of things, but it's GW so it doesn't have to be.
    "I swear on me mum, it's true!"
    Having faith doesn't mean you don't question it. For some it's 'the truth' and for others it's a tool to deal with the things that happen in life, but the sort of faith you're describing is along the lines of a Grey Knight who believes in absolute resolution against Chaos, because they have the overwhelming confidence and hardcore indoctrination to not just believe it, but LIVE it.
    I have a friend who works to pay for his self discovery journeys, where he meets shamans and holy men in all sorts of places, sometimes near cities, other times in the far end of nowhere, on the borders of Nepal and Tibet. He absolutely insists there is a transferrable energy between people, that some of these men can not only read yours, but transfer to or from you. He claims to have witnessed 'spirits', ala warp demons, possess people and to have blacked out himself in one such event but waking up sore from having danced all night without knowing it.
    There are wilder stories than that, that go way beyond what I'm willing to write, but the idea of for example 'youthful energy' is an old one, most famously from the Bloody Baroness (Elizabeth Bathory) who bathed in the blood of beautiful women, to some of the crazier *rumours/conspiracies* about Hollywood having secret rituals with children.
    He's not the sort of person to lie, he doesn't share this information to gloat, brag or be interesting, he does it with some because he feels they deserve to know that there's more to life. I believe that he believes it, I believe that people can take drugs and go nuts at a party, imagining that they're possessed and have wild experiences that don't make easy sense, but I don't believe it's magical, only that they enhance the situation with belief.
    It's a sort of faith though and an interesting glimpse into how powerful emotions can be.

      Magic and the divine is merely the parts of the universe our technology has not yet managed to understand. It's funny how hardcore scientifically minded people are totally onboard with the theories about multiple dimensions, 11-dimensional string theory, parallel realities and the multiverse, but if someone says there might be spirit beings in another realm, they consider that preposterous.
      Not realizing its the exact same kind of idea..
      What we consider paranormal is merely that which we havent figured out yet.
      There is NOTHING paranormal in the universe, because if it exists, it is natural and normal.
      The universe doesnt need us to understand or even be aware of it.
      I believe your friend had genuine experiences, there are far too many accounts of things like this to discount. Its not about religion, its about spirituality. And spirituality is NOT anti-science, it is merely the science we havent figured out and understood yet.
      I'm glad 40k is tipping its toes into this new frontier.
      Because mark my words, we're all gonna have to come to terms with some of these things sooner or later, no matter how hardcore "atheist" you may be.
      On a side-note, i consider atheists to be just as foolish as fundamentally nutty religious cults.
      Because just as you as a single human being of flesh and blood on this tiny planet in this huge cosmos cannot possibly know the truth about realms so far beyond our scale to say conclusively "a god does not exist", one also cannot definitively state "a god does exist and he takes on these rules for humanity".
      It's like asking a Dolphin if The ISS exists.
      It has no concept to even contemplate that question, nor what the answer would mean.

    St. Celestine lost her powers on Cadia when the warp was temporarily cut off, indicating that her powers were from the warp, at least at that time. Yet, she still kept fighting Abaddon without missing a beat. It's possible that the saturation of warp energy throughout the galaxy after the opening of the Great Rift has greatly lessened the power of null fields overall, but that also there could indeed be another that the sisters can connect to a power that is beyond the warp. An analogy from real-world religions is when Moses' staff serpent devoured the staff serpents of the pharaoh's sorcerers.

    The faith thing made sense for me. The Sororitas are still tapping into the Warp, and are overloading the null zone with their psychic warp faith.
    They are tapping into the psychic might of the unborn warp entity that is currently being formed from the worship of the Emperor. The number of humans worshipping thr Emperor far outpaces even the worshippers of the most popular chaos god, thus it is probably an order of magnitude stronger than the normal level of what the Necrons can nullify, or expect to nullify.
    It is also why Blanks don't seem to have an effect on them.
    They aren't psykers, per say, but more akin to a chaos cultist performing a ritual of possession.

    I have a couple of theories regarding the Sisters and their capabilities, especially within the Pariah Nexus, but they may be a bit out there:
    1) If Faith is a deep wellspring of emotions contained within the mind and soul of a person, perhaps they needn't look to the Warp for psychic phenomena. If Psykers draw power from the Warp, which as we know is just a soup of emotions, then why can't psychic races draw from their own powerful emotions, like Faith? If this energy has nowhere to go, or alternatively is hepd firmly by the soul, why couldn't a psychic race draw upon it, almost like a battery of warp energy contained within themselves? Ergo, Sisters do draw upon the same type of energy as the Warp through their Faith, they just pull it from inside themselves, not from another realm.
    2) This one is a bit more crazy, but perhaps Faith in the Emperor is what is killing him. We know that all forms of emotion and belief flow in the endless channels of the Warp- hence how the Chaos Gods grew from emotions, and how other Gods came into being also, like Malice or Yncarnne. So, maybe human Faith in the Emperor is creating a new kind of energy or sentience in the Warp. The Imperium has gone sort of overboard in the enforcement of the Imperila Cult as of late, and in such dark times faith is a bedrock on which people can hope to build a sanctuary from the terrors that lurk in the void and beyond. Such heightened emotions may be enough to spawn a creature in the Warp, or enhance the presence of one already there- the Emperor's. Regardless of whether he was initially a god, perhaps the collective belief that he IS a god is latching on to the fragments of his soul in the Warp, drawing it from his mortal body. We know the Emperor is dying, the Golden Throne failing for unknown reasons- perhaps the increased focus on Faith is why. As Faith flows into the warp, it latches onto the entity its associated with, as happens with worship of the Chaos Gods. Yet, this soul is trapped in undeath, and only by killing the emperor, and reuniting his complete soul with the bolstering power of human faith, can he truly be reborn and aid humanity again.
    Or, perhaps Faith is it's own entity separate from the Emperor, hence the random acts of benevolence and malice it inflicts, like saving guardsmen before burning their ranks alive as shown in a story from the 9th Ed. Core Rulebook. Who knows. Certainly not me.

    I think you should mention the back and forth on the “purity” of the gene-seed of the Primaris. It is a big deal for both lore and table top. As a Blood Angels player, the idea that Primaris are just accepted as being superior was utter bullshit. Death Company and the Sanguinary Guard are clearly superior to the basic Primaris Marine. If we are to believe that the gene-seed is more “flawless,” then there would be no Primaris Death Company and no Primaris Sanguinary Guard. The same applies to the Space Wolves and the Diggerknobs (I mean Wulfen) effected. Seth Gabriel said it best, the Red Thirst isn’t a curse; it is a gift from their Primarch. That constant struggle to stay loyal and not fall to Chaos, not give into the Red Thirst, is part of what make a Blood Angel Space Marine. Otherwise, they might as well be Ultramarines in Blood Angel Armour.

It would seem like they realized they wrote themselves into a corner, and now they are trying to correct that. So Cawl isn’t as smart as everyone gives him credit. I consider it heresy that he would even attempt to modify Primarch gene-seed, perfected by the Emperor himself, and call chapter traits gene-seed “flaws.” From the lore, are we going to see Primaris Wulfen models on table top? Primaris Death Company? They would have to make a decision on the lore, but there is just back and forth right now.

    One thing I should point out as I base my opinion about the Null Field and how the Bolter Nuns were unaffected by it:
    We have seen Nulls being overwhelmed by psychic power before with the shattering of Khaine's Gate. The Gate was surrounded by captured Nulls in an effort by Vect to keep it closed. But as the 13th Black Crusade rolled around and Khaine's Gate started to crack, there were specific mentions of these captured Nulls starting to scream in their cages after many years of the Kabalite guards having periodically been driven mad by their proximity to the Gate and knowledge about the Gate's instability being suppressed by Vect, Luetin also specifically mentioned this event. The Nulls, who are anathema to daemons and the Warp, began to scream in madness. Not even they are 100% immune to it's effects. The limit might be insurmountably high, but it clearly exists. It is therefore, at least in my mind, reasonable to assume such a limit also exists for blackstone.
    Therefore my reasoning about the Sisters of Battle using their faith-driven powers is thus: They simply overwhelmed the field with their faith. As corny as it sounds, the Warp is a dimension where the impossible becomes possible and the concept of warp-derived powers overwhelming technology, even as powerful as that of Necrons, doesn't sound like something to be discarded out of hand. Especially when combined with the religious dogma the Sisters of Battle exhibit, it wouldn't surprise me if they believed to their core that any technology that the xenos wield wouldn't prevent their devotion in the Emperor from protecting them and bringing death to the Necrons.
    EDIT: And yep, this was also brought up by Luetin. Oh well.

    Maybe it's like the dwarves from fantasy? Dwarves believe that they can't do magic, and that their runes aren't magic. This, by the nature of the warp/chaos, makes their runes become a unique subset of magic, that functions signifcantly differently than regular magic.
    Maybe the imperium insisting that their faith is drawn from BIG E, and not the warp, have caused that to actually become the case. Essentially, they've made their magic not count as magic, just like the dwarves did.

    On The Faith topic:
    “Loyalty is its own reward” Lion El’Johnson
    Hey Luetin! I think that Faith is is far and away the most powerful “Fuel” for Warp based abilities, but the hardest to obtain.
    My reason being this:
    The quote above by The Lion is a perfect example of what I believe Faith is in 40k. How many Chaos Worshippers can you think of are truly Faithful to their Gods, So much so that they expect nothing in return for their worship and sacrifice? For the most part Chaos Worshippers expect something in return for the actions they take. Be it power or an escape from the torment their God will bestow if the tithe isn’t kept. The Chaos Gods are fueled by and empower The Mind and Body, Emotions and Flesh. But what of The Soul? I believe that Faith is a extension of The Soul. The Warp is something much more then a psychic maelstrom, it’s so much deeper. But Chaos feeds on the most abundant source which is extreme thoughts and emotions. And their worshippers keep crawling back like a drug addict who will do anything for their Fix. But what of the trillions of Emperium Citizens who work and die all while knowing they will never stand higher then they are now. Yet many give thanks and ask for the strength to SERVE but one more day. Few fall and become faithless chaos addicts. But The Many stand faithful.
    And that’s why The Sororitas can so often tap into the power of Faith. They march forward, fight, and die deaths thousands of times worse then an average citizen of The Imperium in the name of The Emperor. Do they expect anything in return? They do not ask for martial prowess, exquisite sensation, an escape from pain, or limitless knowledge? No, they do it because they believe. They do it because Faith is its own Reward.
    I could go on for longer about why Chais Worship isn’t faith and would falter against black stone tech as opposed to what The Imperium has rockin up. But this is already a really long comment.
    This is my take on The Power of Faith in 40k and its superiority and rarity in comparison to Standard Warp based powers. If you or anyone ever reads this comment it’d be nice to know what y’all think about this interpretation.

      I like the theory - a guy above, @SeanEvans I think is his name? Had a pic of a pit bull for his photo like 3 comments up at the time of writing thought that perhaps the emperor destroyed the warp rather than created it with his emotions - since he can permenantly kill daemons. So faith is sort of like the opposite in that it destroys the warp. I think it might go with this. Like this seems to make sense - it is not out of a selfish motivation but out of true faith (only obtained by focusing alone on the emperor rather than on their own self). Pretty cool!

  • @tripod222
    @tripod222 4 роки тому +36

    Concerning the 2nd point: perhaps the conceptualization as "the warp" being that parallel dimension as the "realm of Chaos" is not sound. Perhaps the realm of Chaos is just 1 manifestation of that parallel dimension, with others manifestations that draw from the same source, such as the Orks' Waaagh energy. As such, imperial faith could be another manifestation.
    That would also explain - imho much more convincingly - why there are no good/positive/differently aligned warp entities. Not because they are a ridiculous minority, but because they do not manifest in the realm of Chaos by definition. Perhaps that is why the Chaos gods insist on the emperor (as one powerful manifestation of humanity's collective psychic might) as being the anathema. Humanity, by its very (numerous) existence might eventually draw energy from the source away from the Chaos realm to humanity's manifestation of that power, thereby, as daemons regularly state, eroding the living "space" of the daemons.
    That the source (warp, kinda) is not inherently chaos-tainted/dominated could be supported by the fact that cutting humans off from the warp should actually also have some positive effects if it was only the realm of Chaos. But the result is pain and despair, with nothing positive whatsoever.
    I also like this (very basic) idea because it would mean that the Chaos gods have managed to pull off the greatest lie in the history of the 40k universe: that Chaos is the warp. It's like a faction holding a near monopoly trying to blind everyone else to the fact that their monopoly is actually not a matter of course and the natural order of things, thereby eroding concerted efforts to change that status quo.(A passable analogy would be Conquistadors using their "power of lightning" - firearms - against some American natives and painstakingly avoiding to tell them that they, the natives, could use the same power.)
    And that would be so very much like the Chaos gods imho.
    Hence, the Necron pylons, not attuned to this new manifestation of the source, would be ineffectual.
    Concerning point 1: I am as flabbergasted as you. Perhaps they will just let the firstborn run their course, and stop supporting them by 10th edition, not giving them new rules etc and moving them to the legends sections, at which point the majority of people will stop using them. One reason might be that GW is so confident in their new minis - justifiably so I think - that people will want to buy new stuff, not just because it is made overpowered. They will certainly be able to do A LOT for other factions concerning new minis, thus broadening the player-base that has traditionally been 50+% Space Marine players.
    As an addendum: In Aos, there is no real "human" faction. The Stormcast are slowly being reduced in popularity as more factions with new minis are being introduced. And the majority of humans is not so much human as we define it in the real world, but "slaves to darkness". Thus GW sees that you don't need humans, that we perceive as the good guys because we identify with them, which, tbh, is not a bad idea. And the Imperium, especially with the return of Guilliman, is "the good guys" for most people. And as soon as you have "good guys", playing "bad guys" in the f***ed up way they are in 40k, (see dark eldar, damonculaba, etc.) can feel weird.

      I’ve always felt that people simplifying the realms of chaos being the entire warp just seemed a blanket statement. Because They still mention enslavers that are their own warp based entity, and how would you have furies that don’t belong to any entity but can be used by any entity exist, if it was so saturated with these four major manifestations/entities/concepts.
      Don’t see how it would be possible that anyone in real space outside of the most powerful individuals could use the warp if they literally had to rip apart a demon just to cast a smite or read someone else’s mind.
      I always figured they operated in a way that wasn’t so much physical Real estate, as much as seeping and overlapping realities, and poking out with tendrils of feeling, looking for any kind of crack they can explore and rip open, thus a weak psyker VS a strong psyker being able to perform better and less risky, partly cause being a powerful psyker is not being distracted or compromised, you could be technically powerful, but if your all over the place mentally and emotionally, you’d be easy pickings for warp Parasites.

      Well fucking said. A less elaborate analogy, if perhaps more succinct: from an RP stance it has always felt, to me, like the F/M/K version of choosing a Hogwart's house in the real and honest sense (as opposed to running with a Cosmo quiz that you take as sufficient.) There are no right answers here, which makes it more challenging.
      The Tau seem like the obvious answer, but not only is that a total copout, once you know more about their history they beome quite suspect, and they too embody at least one, if not several, of the concepts the rest of the factions inspire me to want to avoid when choosing a side: namely, merciless advocation for wholescale slaughter, a fanatic dedication to racial superiority, demand for the unthinking fealty of the individual, and/or open dedication to outright fascism.
      I choose Slaanesh. Certainly the Perfect Prince represents a harbinger of abject misery as much as the next choice, but She takes all comers, She demands no fealty and asks that you serve only yourself, and those admitted to Her realm come away with, at least, the illusion of paradise as their subjective reality even though the objective reality of the observer may differ.
      EDIT: Should the forces of the Star Child ever recieve full confirmation, I'll obviously switch as quick as anyone would, but until then we are all presented with a dark and difficult choice.

There are a few things that shut you off from the warp, like the tyranids shadow in the warp, but they, as far as i know, don't stop ork tech from working. That's still a psychic power though. Maybe these null fields act more like a filter on the warp than blacking it out completely, and if you have enough people amplifying a signal it can still break through?

    One personal theory, coming from a guy that mostly read Horus Heresy stuff, and whose main source of 40k lore come from Bruva Alfabusa.
    If I remember correctly, null fields are not infaillible, even though they are enough to shut down most psykers, demons, and warp users in general. But with beings of great psychic potential, such as Malcador the Sigillite or Big E himself, several nulls were required to shut down their powers. And it is inferred that the SoB's faith is believed to come from the Emperor.
    What if the fragments of the Emperor's psyche, drifting across the Universe, latched onto beings with a high dosage of faith in Him, like the SoB? It might be fragmented, but there's a chance that even a fraction of the being who can power the Astronomican while half-dead would be able to overpower the necrons' null field.
    How does that hold up? I'm missing a lot of knowledge, so any feedback or reference would be appreciated.

      sounds pretty accurate as there is precedent in lore of deamon hosts or deamons spending a lot of time around nulls eventually removing that skill from them
      nulls are just another psychic power, and just like there are different strengths of psychers there are different strengths of nulls
      from nulls that are just kindof annoying but good enough to keep you safe from getting mindread up to nulls so powerful that if they stepped onto a craftworld all the power would go out and every eldar would have a stroke with blood coming out of every hole
      it is definitely possible to overwhelm a null even if its one of the most uncomfortable things a psycher could do, and psychers do a lot of very uncomfortable things

      James Gastovski For the « remaining alive » part, I could say that most of it comes from the sacrifice of a thousand psykers each day, the same way people in deep coma can be kept « alive » with artificial means, even though their consciousness has long since gone away. As per « powering the astronomicon », I could infer that the Golden Throne is tapping into the power that the half-dead Emperor still produces, especially considering the aforementioned sacrifice.
      Although I’m not specifically big on the « tribal suicide pact » theory (it was never officially confirmed, if I’m not mistaken), when we consider that Big E lived most of history and was able to recall most of it at his peak, I could go on a stretch and say that just a tiny fraction of the Emperor’s knowledge and psychic power could be able to make decisions, hold conversations, and even perform short-term miracles.
      And once again, I’m only a neophyte in all of this. If there is something in the books or manuals that directly contradicts what I’m saying, I will be the first to admit defeat.

    There's other possibilities you kinda touched on but also some you may not have thought of.
    1. The faith is actually acting as a conduit for psychic energy, bypassing the blockage of the warp by the null field. (Think of it like a siege, but the people in the castle trained birds to bring them food, so it's bypassing the siege)
    2. The null field blocks psychic power under x level, but because of the sisters level of power, they are over that and unaffected. This could be tested if an ultra powerful psycher was in one of these null fields
    3. The sisters faith acts like its own internal warp, converting their emotions into raw power.
    4. The sisters faith acts as a 'battery' that allows them to store warp energy for later use.

    Hi Luetin, this occured to me whilst listening and re-listening to your lore vids. What if faith in the emperor changes the frequency of warp energy?
    This would explain why blackstone nullified warp energy at Cadia resulting in the banishment of lesser warp entities but it did not banish St. Celestine. It would also explain the Adepus Sororitas and Imperial miracles in the Pariah Nexus. Of all the Imperial forces the Sororitas are the most zealot in their faith; also the Imperium and Emperor, by Necron timescale, has only occured in a blink of an eye so this is something new to them.

  • @the0silencer
    @the0silencer 4 роки тому

    I think it's somewhat important to also note that in the novel by Gav Thorpe which accompanied the Indomitus box, the space marines there were also able to resist the necron pylons to a significant degree, and were also able to help normal humans/guardsmen resist the null field as well. While they weren't manifesting any powers, it seems like the ability of trained and indoctrinated imperial forces who, for all intents, have fully and willfully committed their lives to the Imperium simply have the sheer willpower to resist the null fields better. It isn't too far of a leap to imagine that humans so united in purpose and buoyed by faith could tap into some kind of gestalt energy in a similar manner to orcs fueling a Waghhhh; in keeping with this thought, it's quite clear that this power manifests within specific characters (i.e. Celestine, or similarly higher ranked sisters) who perhaps might have the subconscious ability to draw upon the faith and emotional wellspring of those around them in the same manner that a Weirdboy pulls upon the fervor or the orcish hordes. This could also potentially explain how miracles seemingly happen in proximity to the sisters, in much the same way that orcs can simply will red vehicles to go faster; the pooled strength of their collective emotion/faith (not pulled from the warp) powers these phenomena and helps to empower the quasi-divine figures like the living saints.

      @@ScooterinAB: I dunno, it seems reasonable for a cybernetic super-soldier wearing power armor to be able to get shot more than once without automatically bleeding to death.

      I feel like it was something that should have existed for the longest time, since it didn't really make sense how a Space Marine squad could easily be killed by Guardsmen if they rolled lucky and the same for Terminators that were stupidly expensive points wise for how easily they could generally be killed by most things. Yet in lore they are said to kill hundreds of enemies by themselves and yet Tau infantry could kill them in melee by beating them to death with the butts of their rifles I guess with a few dice rolls and some unlucky saves, so much for that amazing Super Solider armor and extra organs.
      I don't think this has anything to do with the new lore itself as much as fixing it to be more in line with old basic lore and is simply a balancing thing in the table top game to keep them relevant while buffing Generic Chaos as a whole since they wouldn't instantly be getting Primaris stuff for a while.

    I'd suspect it's lazy writing with the whole faith thing. We saw in the final events of the fall in Cadia that Celestine's faith powers were stripped by a very similar kind of null field when she was fighting Abbadon. Two similar events with very different results.
    Good fun to speculate though ^-^

    Since you were bringing up the argument of tabletop rules as part of the lore of the Primaris, one could argue that the Sisters of Battle do not use psychic powers and their miracle dice still work and can not be blocked. Healing deadly wounds, rallying the forces, guiding their shots and making their bolter rounds extra leathal are a common thing. In addition one could also argue that there is alot of smoke and mirrors going on, as far as some of the visuals are concerned. A display of pyrotechnics and a sophisticated laser show will make a guardman believe to have witnessed a true wonder.
    Even the Sisters may not be aware of the fact that some of the things they do are contributed to technology and only their faith in the emperor makes them believe they actually perform miracles.

    "He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology." I take this sentence as a reference to the forgotten technology underpinning the Golden Throne's power. The EoM, while very powerful, is not working alone. So maybe this is an example of Clarke's 3rd law, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." It's fair to say that since the psychic awakening EoM and the Golden Throne are sucking down more and better quality psychers. Just suckin up good uncut psycher souls like a coke head in Vegas. So EoM is not a God, he's a badass who's cheating death using forgotten tech sitting on top of a pile of psycher bodies. (I'm locking my door now.)
    Perhaps the Sororitas have thus unrevealed armor characteristics or all carry a relic that is imbued with this forgotten tech that resonates with the EoM/GT and overcomes the null effect. Perhaps the recent better quality soul juice is amping the EoM, coupled with the Sororitas' rock hard faith is how they resonate, match, connect, and amplify, and why it hasn't happened much before. I've seen vibrations and resonance used to explain Eldar and Necron tech. Maybe it's something like that here? Anyway, thanks for the discussion topic LT, great vid!

    Prediction:
    There may be a stat and lore difference between different marines based off what geneseed they have example
    First born: Those that hold the original geneseed are seen has betters compared to the primaris stock. Because they hold flawed gene traits they are seen as stronger because of the constant test to their will power(wulfen curse and the black rage for example)as well as having it be honorary(I descend from those who served our father during the great crusade- not those who were vat grown in Cawl's lab!). In crunch terms HQs with firstborn geneseed might have greater leadership, wounds or weapon skills. Instead of deleting the past and pretending it never happened, we can keep the interesting flavors of the different chapters.
    Its better than "he's trying to turn us into red ultramarines"

    • @busterbackster1
      @busterbackster1 4 роки тому

      But then you have primaris death company and primaris showing wulfen traits, either way why wouldn't you want to turn a marine into primaris? Even if it's just a bit better that's still...better, either way grabbing an aspraint and giving them firstborn organs or the primaris extra ones it's the same marine in the end, just one is better

    • @drekbleh7081
      @drekbleh7081 4 роки тому

      @@busterbackster1 i should be more specific-
      They would have everything a Primaris have but their specific geneseed would be the firstborn one. Like the black Templars could have a aspirant with leadership qualities and gift him with both primaris organs and their original slightly flawed imperial fist geneseed(I think they're missing the betcher's gland?) They would perhaps name him "Son of Sigismund" to honor his heritage, while those with Cawl's "fixed" geneseed would be called "Cawl's creation".
      This also creates interesting internal conflicts as founding chapters uphold they're flaws as superior to those without flaws
      "What is good about the black rage and the red thirst?"
      "The red thirst allows us to bond with one another in our communions to further our discipline with the black rage. If we never feel the black rage...how will we ever feel a connection to our father?"

    Faith can be explained quite simply: the warp, also known as the see of souls, is a reflection of the materium and psykers reach into it to use its power in a particular way. Faith on the other hand strengthens ones own soul and charges it as a battery outside the warp. The faithfull can then draw upon the power of their own soul to perform mirracles.

    Great video!
    Still i‘ve got some ideas.
    - there is a third realm to the materium and the immaterium
    - sob dont need to connect to the Warp because they use the emp as a conduit to the material realm
    - sob are already fuled with warp power and dont Need to connect with the warp to weild it
    - the null Field does not Block everything from the warp (maybe intentionaly)
    And some notes. In Flight of the eisenstein it is Noted that sister of silence cause an unease feeling when near normal people.
    Though it seems weird to me that the null field may causes a stronger effect then they do.
    Its like a less than a vacuum problem to me.
    The entire nature of the null effect seems kinda blurry to me.
