The Royal Marines have brought out a new pre joing fitness test. This has been brought on because of Covid 19. The Royal Marines pride themselves on being an elite fighting force and as an ex Royal Marines Commando, I make sure that I always stay in shape. Especially if I'm sat here gobbing off on youtube. Give this Circuit a go, it gets quite tasty and I found the timings quite hard to stick to with the burpees. To all aspiring Royal Marines Commandos Train hard and smart.

Just passed my PFJT+ test at a Nuffield gym in Glasgow. Some buzz!
Fuck yea! Well done
Canβt believe weβve got a month training down Lympstone for PRMC, madness and I love it haha! Iβll be there some point this summer ππ
Think that's class for you lads mate. We had a 3 day beasting then told see you in two months. Whereas they'll train you up to be ready
Perhaps am missing a point here, is this 1 month (4weeks) gonna be part of Assessment test or what?
Hope you got on well mate. I'll be in the same position this year all things being well.
@@CompleteCommando is that the actual pjft I thought it was harder than that
@@cameronwalker3834 yes thatβs the actual one, as someone whoβs training for it, itβs harder than it looks in the video
After attempting this numerous times over the past 3 weeks I've finally completed the whole thing, my press ups and plank could use a little more work but we're getting there πͺπͺ
Great job!
Boss mate, never give up
@@mufferm5980 over a month later mate and i can consistently do 4 rounds

Thanks David
great job. From a former RM bandsman, hoofin' effort.
Thank you mate π
Been doing the officer vpjft+ me mate, ive heared lads say the RM ptis get them to do a fourth set as a determination test
Good stuff mate. Yes no doubt, always find a way to make things harder haha.
Nice to see you get a bit of a sweat on, can see your eyes light up when you describe it as a good test. Did mine a couple of weeks ago. I find it difficult to understand how somebody could pass this and then fail the gym tests at Lympstone.
This is extremely good demonstration.
Thanks brother
Just so you know dude, the burpees need to be done with feet together and hips engaging. I failed my first VPJFT because I had been learning the burpees the incorrect way. Very frustrating when you finish thinking everything was fine and then you get told you have to do a retest.
Thanks mate.
Have you redone your vpjft
@@marcushodges255 What do you mean?
Just feet together or knees too?
Clearly this guy not a marine. If you look, you see his arse clearly above his actual HEAD on most reps. Feet don't even hint at knowing they meant to be together. He would be beasted for this. No way he has passed out. Also his upper back has 'geek spine' - shoulder blades not retracted. Zero possibility this would be possible. The guy is fake. Also why doesn't he war the beret if he is 'Royal Marine' as title of video says, or 'Total Commando channel name implies. The guy's a fraud who bought some green T-shirts and army trousers from a surplus store, gets off on faking the style of talking and making videos and does a lot of gym. His technique would get him battered in basic ,

Brutal, especially coming out of the end of a covid spell, cheers for the demo
My mate at work royal marine Luke Robson has recommended me to do this for my channel so going to give it a go looks a good challenge 3 rounds with no break very helpful to watch yours first and great work πͺππͺ
got mine coming up soon! my weakness are the sit ups, just can't complete all 3 sets.
Keep working hard mate you'll crack it!! Just don't give up no matter what!
Hey mate, you made that look easy! Have you ever done any more "traditional" bodybuilding/powerlifting centric training or have you always focused on more functional fitness and bodyweight exercises?
Hi mate thank you. I've done a lot of CrossFit and Olympic lifting with a bit of powerlifting too. But to complete this circuit solely bodyweight work needed. We have a programme that we released last week to help you get through these tests mate. We have 15 lads on it seeing good results if it's something you're interested in mate. π
Blimey a month PRC test at CTC. When I did mine in 1981 it was 3 days I think. The month may really weed out those they don't want, and also good for those that will not want to stay in as I understand it is part of the training program now. Good on all those who want to join up. Most of us would join up again if we could. I loved my time at Lympstone.
Weβre you in the falklands lad
@@usersaccount5706 Yeah "Rebecca" must have been a woman Commando during the falklands
That's a great idea with taking a rest inbetween. I've been struggling with doing the repetitive sets so that should help. Can't believe I never thought of that XD
Yer no worries mate really good way to build up your endurance gradually. Good tactic for bleep test too. When you get to the max of a bleep test then drop down to running on every other bleep.
My mate at work Luke Robson was in the marines and has recommended for me to do this for my channel looks a good challenge doing it 3 rounds with no break and helpful to watch yours first great work mate ππͺπͺ

What is the bag you have for the sit ups? Need one ASAP as I'm only doing crunches instead of a full sit up!
@Sam Logan Fitness Completely agree with you on the planks, Iβm due to do this soon and I have found that the PTs did a great job with the structure of the session. Having Planks straight after the press ups kills it because youβre already in a plank stance doing the press ups. Great effort too mate good video!
Yes mate defiantly. cleaver programming by them there mate. let me know how you get on.
Hey Sam I passed yesterday so onto the next phase
@@coletrain5778 what angle did you have your camera set up for the call on your sit ups?
Would they be alright with you being directly side on or more at an angle?
@Just Pure and Simple yes so I had mine on a kitchen chair in my living room with a couple of books on top of each other I made sure that for sit ups they could see the floor and my whole body. Hope that helps let me know if you need anything else. The PT gets you to do 2 of each reps then tells you what to adjust on the camera
@@coletrain5778 yeah so basically I'm hoping it'll be alright just to be side on as I'm limited with space, did you do yours over WiFi or data?
Awesome video!
My PJFT+ is in four days, the 13th October, I just completed the ciurcuit but i was on the verge of collapsing on the third plank, but got through it, I think Im ready :) Thanks Logan
it has been quite a while since this was commented but how did It go? All the best
This the same Dom from commandos?
Cheers for the insightful video much appreciated and just about managed to complete it without a break and just need a little improvement on form with the sit-ups and keeping consistency in form with plankingπ
Nice video mate. I've got my vpjft tomorrow so looking forward and I'm gonna smash it. Don't know what happens after that.
Smash it mate. On to ROP at Lympstone after that
Did you smash it?
How did you get on buddy?
Did you crack it mate?
Nice one. I struggle with the last set of sit ups, will defiantly try doing it with a rest in between each round π
Good stuff mate!
Iβm the same mate, failed it couple days ago got to 20/30 sit-ups on last set and just couldnβt physically get up in time with the beep. Got 2-4 weeks until re-try
Glen Scott did you pass man

@@CompleteCommando I am quite a heavy lad and find the sit-ups a bit tough, I failed my first PJFT attempt purely due to sit-ups. Do you have any advice for increasing endurance⦠I have been knocking out 100s since but any other advice would be mega :) cheers dude
Do they still make you do the 3 miler on the treadmill before PJFT? What else do you do on the PJFT. It's 3 days long so obviously it's not just these new circuits x3. Can't mind much specific info online about the "new PJFT+." I heard you now have to do a 3.5 mile run on the PJFT. Is that a timed run? Certain time limit? It used to be 1.5 miles in 12:30 and then another 1.5 miles in under 10:30. Is all that gone? So confused. Thanks.
Good Vid Sam. Iβll give that a go. Press ups to plank is always brutal.

Hi mate good video , was wondering if you could do a video on what we need to revise on the core history /moto of the royal marines etc would be a great help. not sure if youve done something like this already if so let me know π
Course mate
Are they asking about background knowledge of the marines, for example, how it came into being, their deployment, victory and awards etc....?
Hiya Sam, love the channel mate. Been a massive help during my process, having a bit of trouble with the speed of my sit ups. Any advice on method to improve it? Cheers
I'm in the same boat but I've found it best to just go as hard as you can then once you slow down too much stop, rest, repeat. Just focus on going hard.
Just started trying this out for my RMC VPJFT, increased my rest time between sets, plank and sit ups need improvement
Well done mate. Just stay consistent bud.
Great video ππ» just wondering for the burpees will they want full chest to floor ones?
pull ups have just now been added too, you get 2 minutes rest then into 5 pull ups perfect form for a strong pass and 5 pull ups completed but not perfect for a pass, any less instant fail
Wow! Thank you so much, at least I have a clue of what to expect.
i saw your other comment asking about whether the extra 4 weeks is an assessment, i have been told its purely to try to bring everyone up to a decent standard of fitness not to try to eliminate the ones who struggle
@@reeferrory5431 Thanks sir for response, that sounds better.
Concerning the marine fitness test in this video, how many sets or rounds (as you call them) should one successfully complete to be given a pass?
I mean should it be three sets/rounds as just did it mate?
@@rekxlijahla8324 yeah its 3 unless you are going for an officer role in which case you have to complete 4
Nice one mate looking strong Iβm currently waiting for my telephone medical then Iβll be doing this test can do it at the moment but at a definite struggle towards the end have u got any tips for keeping composure during the plank as thatβs the part I find hardest
Good stuff mate, sounds like you're well on your way to passing it. I'd work on something like 5 rounds of 10 press ups, 30 seconds plank
And build up the reps and rounds. As it's the combination of Press ups and plank that makes it difficult. π
Sam Logan Fitness thanks for the help will incorporate that into my training π
@@connork9058 no worries bro, keep me updated.
Sam Logan Fitness will do
What's the duration for the assessment? Whats gonna happen thereafter? How long does the training take? When is it gonna commence, immediately after assessment...?
Please elaborate.
Just finished 100% after my 3 mile run for the first time with no break and maintained form. This is after doing it every Mon-Fri for 1 and a bit months. Feels good.
so you only rest on weekends?
@@Ls-tp8iz yeah sat and sun
@@Ls-tp8iz it's mainly cardio and body weight training so the recovery is faster than what most people have.
@@lewismccombe6231 nice mate so how long roughly did it take for you to get the 5k time down?
@@Ls-tp8iz I've been going full out since the gyms opened in April. When I started I was doing 1.5 mile in 14:20 (Dog shit.) Now I'm doing 3 mile in 21:30 (still a lot to go.) Following this vPJFT has been excellent help with cardio. And if it starts getting easy you just add another set on.
Is this the new joining test? Does this replace the 60 press ups, 80 sit-ups and 12 pull ups? Im so confused lol
Yes mate
I'd rather do the one you mentioned over this tbh
That was too hard for the recruits lol
Why the hell have I not heard about them scrapping the PRMC until now? This change has gone under the radar a bit.
Yer was a bit hush hush don't know why.
Hi mate, sorry to comment on an old video. Where did you get that bag for your feet and what is it called?
Hey mate its a sandbag from district L. If you just get a generic sandbag and fill it up youβll be sound. π
It's nice to see you doing it so I know what I'm gonna go through this afternoon. Thanks mate ππ
How many sets do you have to do?
3 sets mare let me know how you get on.
I've just finished. It was terrible almost as much as a custom workout I created. But it's good that I almost cried because now I know I'm not close in fittness. Definitely going on my workout plan. Thanks for sharing this.

Awesome stuff, Iβve got mine next week but Iβm worried now, I can do the whole thing no problem but when I filmed myself I noticed that on the last set my plank form kinda went to shit, I guess I was subconsciously struggling as I thought I was maintaining good form but I wasnβt, and advice on how to keep that plank form solid?
Just really work on Plank and press up combinations for the next few days then mate. that's were the challenge is. That combination of movement.
How did u get on
How often would you do this as a session per week? I'm very close to full completion (3 reps off of press ups and need work on the plank full stop).
How you getting on? I train 6 days a week but depends on training age mate.
Will the pjft go back to normal after COVID 19 will it go back to the pull-ups sit-ups press ups and the run ?
No one knows, they are seeing if more people stay in training
Alfie Wesley oh thanks mate love your channel
Harder than it looks to be fair. I think the PJFT is much easier than is. I haven't be retraining for too long however; looking to rejoin the Royal Marines and it seems that I may have let off more than I thought!
Anyone got any training tips? I can do all sets with a minute and a half rest between but struggling to progress. Have my medical coming up soon
keep gradually dropping the rest between sets down mate.
When you do the pjft do you get to take a rest between the excercises or do you have to do it straight after each excercise
You follow exactly how the audio says. They will most likely play that exact same track
Heyy there mate. Iβm currently 16 and my bday is on the 15th Nov 2006. Iβm planning on joining the marines when I turn 18. So Iβve got about a year and a few months to get fit. Would this be an adequate amount of time to train and easily smash my pre joining tests?
Yes mate it all comes down to how hard you train in that time though
So how I originally thought burpees were done was when you would do a press up, then stand up and jump up, but this burpee is different, is this what will actually be in the fitness test?
These are different.
Good work
Thank you! Cheers!
Got mine in about a month or so, struggle mainly on the planks after the push ups as I think I lack upper body strength, any advice on improving the push ups / planks?
Hi mate, just tons of interval work mate. 5 rounds: 10 Press ups, 45 secs plank, rest 30 seconds etc
Sam Logan Fitness cheers mate Iβll try that ππ½
@@lukeday4444 did u manage it mate mines in a month and i have the same problem i can do the burpees situps and press ups for days just the planks i cant
Hey man love what u are doing but on the sit ups your elbows was meant to go on the top of your knees. Not 100% sure but love the vids, keep up the good work
Your right, elbows above knees
Hi mate. I can do 2 full rounds right now. Do you think I'll be able to get one more round in within 16days before my vpjft?
Iβve done all I say is do it everyday and try to go 4 rounds instead off through whilst increasing ur cardio and improve ur diet if needed thatβs how I passed cuz they fail u on form if doesnβt look good but listen too what I said and youβll go through that like a butter fly
And then once youβve done that have one -three day rest and the night before drink a shit ton off water and 45-30 mins drink a red bull or have preworkout ππ»
My next step is the vpjft and my careers advisor said to me today on the phone it's 4sets of each workout, do you know if that's true or if it's 3 sets still? I can get through all 3 sets just struggle with form more on my press-ups leading into the plank on the final step so a 4 set would most likely be a struggle.
4 sets for officers I think and 3 sets is regular
Is this going to be implemented fully instead of the gym tests? Unsure if I should be training this AND the gym tests?
That's the rumour mate. I think they've been looking to update it for a while, so with the current situation its a good time to do it.

How many sets do you have to do to pass get a pass? Is it 3? I have my pre joining fitness test in a few weeks
Yep 3
The audio is up to 4 sets tho, do they just see if your willing to do a 4th set? Or is that just a myth
Is this the format permanently, or just for the COVID-19 period
I think permanently but we'll see
For some reason I did my burpies the exact same way as demonstrated but when I did my Virtual PJFT the instructor failed me saying I don't go down low enough on my burpies
The seargent failed me.
Any idea how long it will be vpjft rather than prmc?
Are you allowed feet support during sit ups during the virtual pjft?
Yes mate
Are you supposed to jump up on the burpee during the fitness test?
No mate
Do you get weighed before the pjft
I've got my fitness test coming up soon any tips on how to improve pull ups?
Lat pull down machine and work up the weight. If thatβs not available then you can use a band to assist with a pull up bar or doing negatives helped me a lot to begin with. Jump up to the bar or step off a box and lower your self as slow as you can. Do that for reps.
