John despised touring and becoming famous cause he'd feel like a monkey performing on stage the same old trick (song) over and over again in the exact same way, for money. But John staid until end of summer '92 until he had drug problems, drinking problems, band problems and mental health issues. When he couldn't take it anymore, he quit after playing one last show in Japan. That's the life addiction saved him from. For 5 years he made music, paintings and poems, did all kinds of drugs, mostly heroin, mostly in the name of freedom and creative freedom. At some point in 1997 he turned is life around, going to clinics to beat his addictions. Later on John would say he needed to go through the depths he went through in order to find peace with having to be a performer, next to being a musician, or something like that. Cause that's just what it takes to be the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, even if you're only in it for the musicianship like he was.

I think the live aspect makes it even better to be honest, I think if he made a studio version (or if there is one) I wouldn’t listen because some beautiful things need to remain untouched and intact
Even if some people don't realize it, these little cover songs that John does from time to time really show what an incredible musician he is because he's most likely figuring them out by ear and executing them PERFECTLY while at the same time putting his own style to them. RHCP just isn't right without John.

Looking back, you might say, "I could see this coming," but its an incredible example a world class guitar player who was decimated by substance abuse that ran rampant in a band he agreed to play in, who was lucky enough to get him not once, but twice...and where his spirit is so much larger than those around him....He outgrew them, and today is so much better off....right on John!!!

So at the start of the video you can see them discussing it, and they were like "John we need you to stall" or something, so John whips out this masterpiece. Even better to think about how great this is when it wasn't intended. You can see Anthony in the background trying to get better.

Good old days. 20K people and hardly any cell phones and camera blitz in sight. When people came to concert to enjoy & grasp the moment. Nowadays most people come just so they can update their status on social media. Funny thing is that 99.99% of those videos and pictures taken during concerts are hardly enjoyable cause of the shaky camera and terrible audio quality. Even funnier is that even though they know this, they would still do it the next time they go to another concert.

What an amazing talent. Even though this isn't his song, his presentation of this song is stunning. I love John performing ballads (Emily) they suit him, allowing him to express himself and his feelings. I like the more grown-up John I see and hear in the ballads. If he put out an album/cd of his interpretations of other song writers ballads, I think it would be a true prize.
