We were stressing out about some miscalculations we made and were not sure how it was going to work out. Years from now when someone renovates the vanity again, they are bound to say "What in the world did Poor Man do?" LOL!!!
I have a vanity and cabinet that is in need of a face lift. This video has given me some great ideas. Thanks for this post and congratulations, it looks great!!
Hearing people are inspired by one of our videos is the greatest compliment we could receive. If you do renovate, we would love to see how things work out for yout. Thank you for watching our video and taking the time to leave a comment.
Truth is... I cut the width and installed it before I realized the depth was a problem. Since I cut it, I could not return it so we had to make it work. Turns out, things worked out well!!
Some times, things do not go as planned but in this case, we got lucky and found work arounds. We thank you for taking the time to watch our videos and for leaving comments.
I was trying figure out what was familiar about the first 2 minutes of the video. The music track is the one @Carbatec here in Australia sampled as their intro music! hahaha. Glad to hear the renos are nearly done.... time to start looking for the next place then? :P
Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch our video and for your kind words. As for the countertop, we purchased it at HomeDepot. If you have any other questions, feel to reach out to us and we will do our best to provide a proper resolution.
I may have missed it but did you show how you cut the backsplash and the other pieces that were too long? Did you use the original backsplash piece that was attached?
We are sorry for not doing a great job showing everything in detail on this project. To answer your question, the entire sink was too big so we cut off the backsplash first. We then cut off some excess to get the sink down to a size we needed. We then attached the original backsplash as if it wasnt a connected piece to begin with. The sidesplashes were purchased separately. I hope this helps but if you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask and we will do our best to try to provide you with a proper resolution. Thank you so very much for watching our video!
Mr Paul, you are absolutely correct. I definitely did a poor job there. It is a bad excuse but often times when that happens, it is because I forgot to record or I did not actually hit record when I thought, or... I was lazy. Just to summarize as best I can, the countertop was too deep so I measured how much needed to be cut and I remove that amount. The original top was a single piece, that included the backsplash, I cut off the top portion of the backsplash and after I cut the countertop to make it fit, I just layed the newly created backsplash on top. I do apologize for the confusing video. We do thank you for watching and for taking the time to point out our error. We learn from our mistakes (I hope!)
I use a razor blade to remove caulk. If I am not mistaken, there is a product (gel type substance) that you apply to caulk and it dissolves it but I ca not sure how toxic it is.
I suspect you over tightened OR... all the many years of Cross fit training Jennifer does, has paid off. LOL! Thank you for taking the time to watch and for your fun comment. We do appreciate it very much.
We used Loctite power grab adhesive. Here is an affiliate link to the product we used. There are other brands that work well too. amzn.to/2Yl57mr . If you have more questions, please feel free to ask and we will do our best to provide a proper response.
As mentioned in the video, I picked up pre-made counter tops from the lical big box store. It appears to be made of a dense particle board and a thick laminate. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

A good few grunts always get the adrenaline pumping, and thus the job done. Nice looking job, especially the doors
The older I get, the more frequent the uncontrolled grunts. LOL
@@Poor_Mans_DIY Haha. I will bear that in mind as I reach 6 decades next year 😂
Great job on the vanity and great way to resize the top. Definitely thinking outside the box. Why do we grunt. Lol.

Thank you, sir. If only I have measured the counter top before I purchased it, it would not have been in that mess. LOL!!

I saw you cut the back of the countertop off and then all off a sudden the back splash was on. I would of liked to see what you did

Okay... You are right! Had not thought of it before but you nailed it. 😂
what tool was used to cut through the caulking to remove the countertop from the wall?
I use a razor blade to remove caulk. If I am not mistaken, there is a product (gel type substance) that you apply to caulk and it dissolves it but I ca not sure how toxic it is.
I am laughing at her getting the pipes unhooked with her hands and I can't get them to loosen with pliers.

you never mention what the vanity top was made of. why?
As mentioned in the video, I picked up pre-made counter tops from the lical big box store. It appears to be made of a dense particle board and a thick laminate. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
