    Wouldn’t it be something if there was a place that had life size mock up interiors of the Jupiter 2, Seaview and Spindrift that we can visit?

    Anything not seen in camera can be solid held instead of on cables. This will make your pod and ship more stable when exiting the ship. Another trick is to shoot upside down (with set and ship upside down as well) and let gravity stabilize the hanging ship - so in effect you are actually allowing the ship to drop from it's landing position rather than trying to get it to stay on target when lowered. Then you just reverse the video. Another trick: instead of cables, support the ship from the reverse side of camera on a pole. That way you can actually make it tilt up and down as well. Hang it upside down - most people won't notice the cables from below. Also you can put film grain over the image and give it that nice (original lost in space) film like feel. The model is awesome. Great job on that. The opening shot is magnificent. overall this is awesome - love the j2 Always been my favorite spaceship. Do more, please - enjoyed this.

  • @allirogorilla

    Great work - love the model - nice work (hint: as a film maker that loves special effects: Shoot the jupiter 2 in slow motion (if you can) and pull up instead of landing and put it in reverse - that way the landing will be smooth and less (string) oriented. Another trick to hide wires is to hang it upside down with camera upside down Also - it stabilizes the whole ship and no one notices the wires when underneath - You can also shoot without wires, have the ship anchored at the side away from camera like on a small pole (or simple wooden dowel) (from the background) sort of like a lever - that way you can tilt the vehicle up and down seamlessly if you want in camera by simply turning the pole. if you are going for close up on the space pod coming out of bottom of J2, you can clamp down or secure the area of the J2 that isn't in camera so you won't get wobble. You want that Irwin Allen feel? then shoot at 24 fp and add a touch of that old film grain composite to the footage in editing (you can find it everywhere - easy to download and place into your videos.) Good luck and look forward to seeing more. oh yeah ... and meow!"

    • @williamhedges1519
      @williamhedges1519  4 роки тому

      Thanks, I couldn't really shoot it in slow motion because the power core lights can't move any faster and neither can the landing legs. I usually use wire removal for other special effects shots, but I didn't for this just to show how it was filmed.

    Bill, I have watched the landing gear onto the derelict many times. The position of the top of the 'hydraulic shafts moves a bit and it really looks like the model sits on the ends of the gear, NOT the footpads. the flat piece on the back of gear leg is about 1/4 inch long. My copy was enhanced by some nice folks at NASA TV because they were also curious. Have another look.

    Most of the J2 Hero shots were filmed at between 96 and 180 FPS. The landing gear 'Hero' didn't have a space pod door.
    How do you lower and raise the legs? I plan to use a jackshaft system in my 4 footer. Is your fusion core a chaser system or mechanical spinning type? Really neat to see someone do a great job on the Jupiter 2.

    • @williamhedges1519
      @williamhedges1519  7 років тому +1

      Thanks, I used linear actuators for the landing legs and foot pad covers and micro-switches to control them. The fusion core is a mechanical spinning light system like the original and it gets its power through slip rings. The dome light is also motor driven and synced to the fusion core with an electronic speed control. Here's a video that shows the innards before I glued the two halves together. ua-cam.com/video/v1AcO6Qt8YQ/v-deo.html

    @markhamp2372 2 роки тому +1

    That Jupiter two is terriffic
    I've built one to obsession not happy with the glossy deck I've made it a vynl effect as on the original
    I've scratch built the fusion drive system as on the original actual rotating lights !
    I've recreated the deck lighting to match the to one on rheumatoid series .the subminiature color monitor actually works and there an SD player for shoeing LOST iN SPACE episodes on it.
    It's VERY nostalgic an experience
    The hull finish changed in the series so I've opted for an accurate dull smooth semi metallic grey (NO TWINKLES! )
    Even the color monitor sound is to scale ! I've employed the season three color set up .
    It's kinda super seeing episodes on that monitor especially the beginning sequences of the series on it
    The micro switches for the functions are well hidden up in a landing pod rescess

    ...found this ship in full scale in a secret bunker beneath my house. I figured it was an abandoned government project or something that was forgotten about - I had to dust it off, give it some paint and oil a squeaky hatch - and then figure out the 60's tech but I have fun flying around the world in the thing. I haven't tried it in space yet. Anyone know how to sew a space suit? - love the video! J2 fan from way back.

      Shoot at FOUR TIMES NORMAL SPEED (Overcranking), and when projected at the normal 24fps, it will have the illusion of size and mass. Same technique used by Eiji Tsuburaya at TOHO in Japan, and used by Oscar winners LB Abbott, and The Lydecker Bros, and Eugene Lourie.
