I remember watching all the Mickey Rooney movies with my Gramps when I was little. I came across this one and remember the tears he had in his eyes and I didn't understand then. He was a Marine and PTSD was not recognized back then. This movie made me cry and now I am in search of all the movies I can that we watched together. I love and miss him so much xoxo

Mickey Rooney was a great actor! He was excellent in this early effort. And what a career: movie dramas, comedies, musicals and television.
A career that started as a child actor and continuing to his early adult and later adult years. Amazing, awesome!!

Very interesting movie which showed the effects of PTSD and also showed the importance of labor rights. Before they knew about how to treat PTSD it was called shell shocked. Not all understood it could lead to substance abuse or that it could trigger a flashback as the movie depicted. Management and labor settle dispute but Cap loses life in the process. Thanks Pizza!

*I promise upon everything that's holy........Mickey Rooney and the precious people who made these classic films way back then...they achieved the greatest accomplishment that they could possibly fulfill. How? By creating a masterpiece...a work of art in the film industry in the spirit of fair workmanship, professionalism and honor...mixed with just right amount of love and good honest effort!!! The BEST part about it ALL is the clear fact that the reason why Hollywood was so successful back in the day and they're not so much nowadays...is because films back then had "HEART" and "FEELING" and "UNDERSTANDING" too. Ahhh!!!........How I wish that I had a REAL time machine...I'd go back to the 30s, 40s & 50s and I GUARANTEE you 3 details that would be TOTALLY different than they are in this day and age: (1) I'd have at least ONE TRUE FRIEND, (2) I may not have had a lot of money back in the day, but as my mom told me so many times: "Son, we didn't have much money, but we had LOVE." and now the BEST for last, but certainly not least (3) I sure as H3ll and Heaven wouldn't be still single at age 37!!! Most people didn't believe that their children should WAIT til they're 40 years old to ACTUALLY go out to dinner and a movie with an eligible young adult lady. Bye, nobody ever talks to me anyway. Everybody HATES MY GUTS because I'm a GODDAMN WHITE AMERICAN MAN...is what it.......HU?!?!?!?! Well, if it is then...YOU CAN GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!*

Mickey Rooney was one of the most prolific and successful stars in Hollywood for years. I recall when, as an elder gent, he foolishly appeared on letterman; he laid his talented hand on letterman's sleeve during conversation and "dave-the-shumck" acted as though Mickey had leprosy and jerked his arm away saying, "DON'T TOUCH ME!" I'll never forget that creep's attempt to humiliate a man who was tenfold the talent that ol' pukish dave would ever be!

PTSD. It seems that in war, even innocent people can get caught in the crossfire and it must weigh on the consciences of people. If the soldiers were confident that they were only destroying bad people, would they feel bad about it, or feel good knowing that they have taken wicked people from the earth - in order to preserve the good?

It's like well we need a dramatic ending - father stops drinking, gets a job, runs the truck off the side of the road because of the strikers, but it settles the strike, Mickey is still sad but relieved to live with his father being the "hero" of the situation, goes to live with somebody - all in under a minute, abrupt ending, show some flowers, now get out of the theater.

The actress who played the school teacher affected a pseudo British accent. British actor David Niven, in his biography ‘The Moon’s a Balloon’ mentioned the trend of Hollywood actors in the 30’s doing this. He was amused and somewhat embarrassed by it I think.

And, the spoiled rich kid just man handels the the teacher. She should have KHATF-out. Sharky was railroaded by the school board that RESPECTS the clout heavy milk man. I could get a masters on this film.

hey hola bola dude. what brought political sniping into this movie especially a Mickey Rooney movie like this. your obviously a conservative by the word choice makes it blatantly obvious. why such vulgar choice of verbiage. if you're referring to the talk of labor, well actually from back in those days the way of life was more simple and real. also if u paid attention to who instigated it for own benefit was the dad who was the republic and chose to use a strike for personal reasons and cared less who he hurt in the process. watch it again and pay attention to who did what and why.
