I agree with everything, but if I might add... from Oogie Boogie, Hoist the Colors, My Mother Told Me Queen in 5 Minutes (he was the Baron... which is funny considering this video, because that's a Voodoo figure), and so on and so forth "creepy as all get-out with a dash of elegance" seems to be the absolutely perfect look for Geoff, doesn't it?

Those cool challenging jazzy chord progressions at 1:39 are the perfect backdrop for the spoken vocals in this song. Again, this ain't your granddaddy's a cappella group. *picks jaw up off of floor yet again*
Eli, busting out his rock 'n' roll voice (2:48) is always a delight, and I look forward to it soooo much. He sure didn't disappoint here, even in his upper class tuxedo...you can put the rock and roller in a tuxedo, but you can't take away his attitude. Or something like that. It's an old saying, you've probably never heard it before...
Cesar comes across as all innocent at first, but just look at that glint in his eye (2:09) - you just know he's a rascal.
Geoff positively purrrrrred "the cards...the cards..." at 1:10 - I love how he can adapt his voice to the characterization he's trying to portray. What (if there was one) was the significance of your gesture at 0:39 when you run your thumb down the side of your face/hair?

I agree so much with everything you wrote! I interpret the 0:39 as a reinforcement of J’s sprinkling glitter over Eli to transfer J’s words to coming from Eli, since it’s still J’s line, only Eli singing it.
Geoff was asked the question about that gesture (sliding his thumb down the side of his head) during a Patreon chat. He replied something to the effect of he thought it would make him seem a bit menacing, but the gesture itself didn’t have a specific meaning.

The acting and costumes were phenomenal! Geoff looks like the "ominous bird of yore, the ungainly ghastly gaunt and ominous bird of yore" in human form. Layne looks like a witch doctor with that bone in his nose. And the fact that Eli, Ceasar and J. looked exactly like the movie made me go wide eyed. I love it.

That's Geoff Castellucci. You should hear/see him in sixteen tons, on his own channel. Ain't no sunshine and Big John, too. And Moana and Tennessee whiskey and Baby it's cold outside (read the description on that one. They 'fix' the words.), here on voiceplay. Then check out Way Down on his channel, which highlights his sense of humor. There are many more great songs on both channels to explore, too, but for Geoff specials that blend great sound with the visual, I'd start there.
Seeing J back, singing with the group (and with Cesar!) is a dream come true~ a spooky dream, apparently! What a fantastically eerie song for the season. Incredible job, as always!

As a bass enthusiast, I must say that the recent placement/resonance change has been mindblowing! Geoff, you're sounding less and less like an acapella bass, and more and more like an orthadox basso produndo/oktavist! Keep it up! Particularly love the meaty/full sounding low G#'s in the bassline - just like in the Queen Medley.
As for the rest of y'all, it just seems to always get better. Loving it VoicePlay!

Having now seen the movie they are referring to... J’s movements at 2:56 ish make sense to me now. He captured the essence of his character’s personality perfectly in my opinion.
Also... dang Geoff... knowing that you and Layne can both beatbox... and you just naturally have a deep voice... let’s just say the deep bass beat you did paired with Layne’s talent (don’t know technical terms for his individual skills/sounds), (the moment I’m referring to starts at 2:26 for those who are interested)... I wouldn’t want to hear that in person in a dark location when I’m alone... it’s scary and effective given the character theme you are recreating here (yes I consider Friends On The Other Side to be his theme).

Thank you so much for covering this song! It is one of my favorite Disney songs/animation sequences and you have captured it perfectly! One of my favorite things you do (besides the obviously awesome music) are the full theatrical productions like this. I especially love the visual fire effects at (0:13) and (0:55), and the glowing skull mask fade (3:17) that perfectly captures the movie version in the way that only you guys can!
Also, the casting is on point! J.Nooooonnneee! I have wanted to see/hear to sing this ever since the Aca Top 10 Villians medley, and when you left we all thought that hope was gone! So glad you were able to drop in and do this for us! Love the rap/hip-hop flavor added to the tarot reading. I hope you get to explore more of that with your Navy career (and many more guest appearances here)
Cesar - you are a Perfect Naveen! Absolutely love your acting and facial expressions here as well, you sell the transformation so well! So glad we got to hear you and J together, such a beautiful blend!

Wow, my sis found out about this in advance and refused to let me even go on UA-cam, because she wanted me to wait until it came out so she could show it to everybody at once, and then BOOM. Not only was it one of the best songs from one of my favourite (newer) Disney movies (speaking of which, Eli did a perfect impersonation of Lawrence at the start there), but best of all J IS BACK, J SANG WITH VOICEPLAY AGAIN, AND THAT MAKES ME SO, SO HAPPY, WOW

Damn!!! J. was perfect for the role. and those crazy eyes he made added a cool effect to his role as a voodoo witch dr type. Lol loved the apperance of Hei Hei during the "I got Voodoo" part of the song.

This one is absolutely wonderful to listen to. I love J's performance, and similarly everyone else's as well! It's so easy to tell you guys had a blast doing this and that just makes it all the more enjoyable.
