Finally someone crazier than me in the garden. I always start with a small task and ended up with an large opportunity. My passion for creating art have evolved over the years. It began with the standard painting and drawing - fabric and string - paper on canvas - fabric on fabric- now plants on soil. It is an on going process and the results are always amazing and surprising. Most people will find an ending but for me it is always a work in process. Love watching this artist at work. Someday I hope to get half as good as Mr Lord. Maybe someday I will be lucky enough to meet him in person.
Laughed my head off watching this video! John, thanks for talking about weeds and making your videos so much fun:) I definitely will not "walk on wet soil." :))))))
You are definitely my favourite gardener John if l don’t get to say hello when l visit your garden l will be sick. You always cheer me up and make me smile thank you Sheila
I like that you said, "It's an Opportunity, rather than a chore"- It's so nice to sit down and watch you at work, coming up with ideas on the fly, and talking about weed advice! I need to catch up on your vids, so much going on , but your vids motivate me to get up and get things done in the garden- feels like im on vacation and things are back to normal in the world when i sit down and watch your videos. Thank you for making your videos.
I say again from Scotland John, I just love your enthusiasm and energy. I am now dedicated to your videos and think you are just brilliant. I do hope you are going to show us yourself tidying up that long border beside this alpine bed. Look forward to it. Thank you again. Would so love to come over to Ireland to visit your Nursery. I have a super Irish son in law it has to be said who lives near Galway. Anywhere close? Cheers Gill
Hello there you can tell you are an expert at gardening. My Grandpa was a Dub. Salvodor Loved gardening, like I do myself., beautiful raised bed. Well thanks 🌸 for the master class I enjoyed it and learned a lot. 🌺🌷🌹
I really enjoyed this video & laughed aloud when you mentioned the society against cruelty to plants! Also: 1. In Hebrew they don’t say “Toes,” it’s “Fingers of the feet.” Like your finger shoes. 2. Vicia may be vicious. but I’m quoting you: Anemone can be your enemy! So true but it is pretty. 3. I was listening to a gardening radio show from Texas (I’m in New York) and they all lost their prostrate Rosemary in the recent freeze but the upright ones are expected to recover which surprised me.
Love to see you again after a long time... Spring is coming and more work in the garden... Love to have a alpine patch... Maybe one day... Stay safe...
Love watching your videos! so much to learn and most importantly the joy in your eyes when you are working with plants is the best!! You have an amazing eye and gardening attitude! ❤️
We're plagued by nut grass - the sedge from hell. We've been pulling it out of our garden for years. Another educational vid. Been missing you, John. Glad to see you thriving through this challenging time.
I wish I had seen John Lord's garden videos a long time ago. I have made so many mistakes. "Put it in your brain that there may be roots left and it will wreck your whole garden bed." I will be dealing with those roots for years now because I didn't hear him first!
You are a treat to listen to. I wish I could be pulling weeds in my gardens but I still have three feet of snow and you have a ton of water .great video thank you. spring is around the corner
Vetch is problem , lots of it where I am , few stems above ground - barrow full of noodle roots underground . Always seems to want to come up right through the middle of something . Be careful of wild plants . Thanks John - looking forward to more films
🙋hi from Scotland ,hi John thanks for showing us alpines I have a few old stone troughs and I love to grow alpines in them ,that white root you showed us reminds me of bloody friend elder the white roots creep every where stay safe take care you plant like the wind your do fast ,I can imagine your camera 📷 assistant is trying not to laugh
He's an artist!! He's allowed to work with wreckless abandon!! We all could learn a thing or two instead of getting bogged down in trivia which leads to procrastination and doing nothing!!
John does. His nursery and garden are an absolute joy but he's always got fifteen jobs on the go at once. Always finds the time to not just advise customers on what to buy, but on how to grow the ones they already have. And if he's got something in the garden that isn't in stock in the nursery he might even give you a slip if he thinks you'll look after it properly. In normal times there's a lovely tearoom too. Missing his garden and his good advice this last year of lockdown
Love watching wise there could be 2 videos all the time i Love gardening and you make things easier for me to understand keep the uploads coming pls and thanks for making me laugh 😆 you are so funny the way you go about the plants john 😂🥰
Yep, I'm crazy about that prostrate rosemary, with its "water falling" ability. I also saw it used as a base around olive trees, clipped into rectangles - looked super. Highly recommended. Great vid guys!
I’ve had to do this with both creeping bellflower and bishops weed. 3 years later there will still be tiny volunteers this spring. For the bellflowers I dug a good 2 feet deep.......
Hand shoes lol that's great!! at least find some warm ale to hold when your done! That Alpine bed looks great already, can't wait to see it all filling in. Just watching how you work with the plants and soil is really helpful. Good to know about not pressing wet soil too much ...oops!!! Thanks for all the information ! Cheers!
I think you are the best gardener and being a complete beginner have learnt a lot. Inhave a problem making decisions and have a small area where my neighbours overlook us and watch what we do. Can you advise on shrubs to grow on our boundary that will look and smell nice and can put up with clay wet soil. In in central scotland
Planted day lilies once from someone and tucked in with them was Houttuynia cordata. It took 3 or 4 years to get rid of it. The white roots smelled terrible when digging them up lol!
@@johnlordssecretgarden Good to know! thanks so much for responding. I really liked the heart shaped leaves but... I'm trying some Western Trillium this year lol.
Do make a followup video for this alpine revamped bed. I agree that it can be murder to remove those nasty roots, hence every minute I spend digging them out, I hate my neighbor more and more for spreading it to my bed. I even dreamed of rounduping 3 feet past my border, but those roots will just go underneath to my fertile and moist soil. Almost makes me want a super volcano eruption, probably yellowstone, just so I can focus on surviving the apocalypse instead of weeding, but you know weeds will be around after we are all gone. Can't win. Raised bed on stilts is the way to go.

I for one, don't mind at all the way you handle the plants John. Get the job done! Don't like where you put it, pull it and plant another! Love it!
Bonus! 2.videos in one week must be spring. Absolutely love Johns way of gardening
I was laughing so hard watching you at 3 in the morning battling through insomnia. Inspirational! I would love to go to Ireland to meet you!!!

Absolutely wonderful! I agree, we must talk about and show weeds as they are often hard to recognize for the new ,and the old gardeners ,like me.
The look on your face when you splashed the rock in the water. Priceless!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Mr Lord very informative as usual and always makes me smile ❤️🏴

I love you so much you know so much and oh! Happy St Patrick day
Great video my friend! 👌 Keep going! 👍 436
I enjoyed this so much!!!
Brilliant John I would do a lot of damage if I visited your garden centre, I think I would need large truck.
I wonder who goes behind John & cleans up the stuff he throws on the ground😉
Lol we could all use one of those too.
I was wondering the same thing! 😂

Thats why wr love you John! You tell us how best to deal with weeds.
You are a Wildman!!! I love your videos. I have gardened my entire life and I thought I was a bit rough... Lol
Very good information! Love your channel can't wait to see how things are going in spring and summer!
Yep, I'm crazy about that prostrate rosemary, with its "water falling" ability. I also saw it used as a base around olive trees, clipped into rectangles - looked super. Highly recommended. Great vid guys!
Just done this with creeping buttercup, don't get me started John!
I love Erodiums , Erodium manescavii can flower for 7 months , love your vids
Would love to see you as a guest on the Tommy Tiernan show brilliant 👌😊
Its spring! More John Lord!
He is a hot mess in this one!
And I love it.

I've seen the dog whisperer, and I've seen the horse whisperer, now I've seen the plant whisperer,, he's so gentle with the plants😜😂
Thank goodness you said 'Gyp -so -ff -illa'! It drives me nuts when people say 'Gypso - feelya'!
Job done 🤣 Love it 👍
I'd love an update on how they are looking now, if a video hasn't already been made.

Great video! 😊
Would top dressing with more gravel work as well? Seems the alpines would appreciate the extra scree. Thanks for uploading?
Brilliant vid, loved it, thank you :)
I've been missing you this Winter. How's your knee feeling?
Excellent, thanks!
Vielen Dank lieber John für deine Mühe. Handschuhe wären gut. Da hast du Recht. Es tut sehr weh, wenn du ins Warme kommst. Liebe Grüße!
John, who clears up after you? 😝
There is probably a full time member of staff who is employed just to tidy up after him ... and is kept very busy .
He probably does it himself on a day he's not feeling creative!!
Or he pays someone to do it with his own money!
He does it himself when he's finished the job. He's an incredibly hard worker.
Omg. Your so brutal with the plants. Mine would surely die.
Planted day lilies once from someone and tucked in with them was Houttuynia cordata. It took 3 or 4 years to get rid of it. The white roots smelled terrible when digging them up lol!
Only a good plant in a pond where it seems to behave itself. It has a peculiar smell, to say the least!

That's my problem! I'm not brutal enough with my garden
Beautiful border!
What is the tall plant John is standing near (on his right) at 0:01?

Sorry John .....as an alpine gardener myself , your Monty Python plant wrestling matches make me wince ...lol .
Don't give him the nuclear codes.
So your definition of white roots would be any running plant?
What sisyrinchium was that , its not mentioned in the plant list?
Where does he get the enwrgy?
Owwww xxx
I always cringe when John revamps things.🥺😱🙈
