Always good to see a new clip, John! You walking past that incredible stand of persicaria reminded me that I finally figured out why your plantings are so lush. Your gardening, of course, but also the fact that Ireland is in the equivalent of our US zones 8-9, but without the tropical heat. Great variety of plants are possible and they have a long growing period.
Love your videos and greatly appreciate that you put the names of the plants on the screen.

lovely! The wood aster is a native weed here in Connecticut, I pull a lot of it out every year, but it is wonderful in those dry shade spots in the garden! Your garden is wonderful to see, great design work!

I love how you have examples in secret garden of the plants - as you said Aster doesn't look good in pot - talking of butterflies - I do lot paper crafts in my conservatory - with door open - and whilst making paper making flowers - I sometimes get butterfly resting on paper flower - then flies off.

Great video as always. Visited the garden centre this last week and it's even more beautiful in person and would recommend to all.
This garden has a naturalistic design which is actually very difficult to achieve successfully. This kind of beauty doesn’t “just happen!”

Yup I have it here in the USA too.
You can find that coreopsis in every garden center in the U.S.!

I love daisy shaped flowers! I had a second year rusty red colored rudbeckia that I loved, suddenly died this year. Maybe from mole tunnel damage. I hope I can find another. I’ve been planting perennials in pots set in the ground because we have so many moles making tunnels everywhere here in Oregon.

I love your enthusiasm. My poor soil seems too heavy and acid to be very successful with daisies. Need more tips please. I can grow that bluish/ purple aster however. In fact it becomes a bit of a thug. So should I try other types around it please? My central Scotland climate is not very conducive to sunny daisies either. That aster doesn’t seem to mind the wet and cold. You have a very beautiful garden. Where is it please and thank you.
I live in eastern Massachusetts, Zone 6a. I have trouble keeping my aster frikaarti monch upright. It tends to flop. Should I chelsea chop or do something else? It's marginally hardy here so I'm hesitant to do much. But it certainly doesn't put on the show in this video because the flowers are too dispersed and often facing downward.
Plants perform differently in different climates. If Chelsea chop doesn’t work i would definitely try a different aster. Been gardening for years and I have learned that what looks good in a magazine, book or video quite a few times is a disappointment in my garden. I think John too advised to keep what works and get rid of what doesn’t. It’s the secret to having a lush and beautiful garden without excessive effort.

Great video. I have 5 patches of rudbeckia goldsturm and it is so pretty and trouble-free. What is the tall plant with red spiky flowers at 9:13? I think I saw you talk about it on one of your videos in the past and I wrote it down but now I can't find where I wrote it down.

John I enjoy yours vids ..but I have to say running a retail nursery you cheat a bit ..sometimes a single plant grouping would run to 125 pounds ..you plant up to 20 plants of the one type . Not really real world stuff.
You’ve not been following the channel for long. Most times he digs up a plant and propagates it by dividing it. If budget is a problem just buy a few plants and after they have established you can easily divide them and get all the plants you want for free. Works for most perennials.
Real world used to be getting plants from free from friends and neighbors. Lots of perennials need thinning after a few years and that’s the perfect time for “rescuing” plants that would be thrown on the compost heap. Also buying seeds is a very budget friendly way to get tons of plants. Takes some effort but it’s worth it.
Your preaching to a gardener here for over 60 years..and I've heard John say '' ''they had 10 ..but i wanted 20''...end of story.
