  • Here's an F1 2020 onboard lap around the old Spa-Francorchamps layout with Max Verstappen in his Red Bull RB16 challenger.
The old Spa layout was used between 1939-1978, and was 14.1km long. Going around this track with a modern F1 car means that it's mostly flat out throughout the majority of the circuit, with very very few turns and corners through the whole circuit. It was interesting to see the differences compared to the modern layout, one of them being the Eau Rouge and Raidillon corners which required me brake more compared to the modern layout.

F1s of the '60s were basically tinfoil-made bathtubs suspended on four motorbike wheels with a 500 HPs. engine running on high octane, hyperflammable petrol strapped in their back, bottlecaps for brakes and no wings (and no downforce), let alone robotised gearbox or electronic driving aids, to help you. And they raced on this kind of track, such as this old SPA which makes the Nordschleife looking like a marble track in comparison.
Driving in Formula 1 in those years basically required complete indifference to end your career whether dead or alive... Surviving was a success in itself.

    Hi Mitsos,
Great video, I like all the classic track videos you made.
Are you using F1 2020? If yes, how can I get and add the classic tracks, so I could try them?
I 'd be grateful for the explanation.
I left a comment earlier, but I can't see it anywhere now.
    Thanks
    GS

1:15 the masta kink, according to jackie stewart one of the if not the most difficult corners in the world
i dont blame him for that as its a high speed chicane on a otherwise basically flat out track even by 1960s standards with no safety measures in place for driver or vehicle errors
