Just to add, I was using a masonry drill bit and a hammer action drill. Even bought new decent bits when I hired the drill!! 🤪
Drilling to fast i think chops
SDS drill for the win 🤷🏻♂️
SDS Drill and bit, Surprised hire company didn’t recommend this to you Chops
As others said I had the same issue installing a garage defender and the only way to solve it was an SDS drill
Lamb Chop Rides .....kryptonite floor....get a kryptonite door....problem solved!
You're spot on that all you can really do is delay a determined thief, but this delay can be the difference between catching them in the act or not as a friend of mine and his neighbour were woken by the noise of thieves drilling out the ground anchor on his R1, luckilly his neighbour got there first and released his two American bull dogs on the thieves, as my mate said there's no better sound than the screams of bike thieves running off with dogs taking lumps from them lol.
You should have used an SDS drill & bit. Would have been like butter.
The difference when you first use an SDS is amazing. It literally pisses through holes.
@@gss6531 So do I 😎
@@HalfdeadRider I think you should see someone about that

Yes what John Cutler said battery ads.
This is well timed. I came to own a garage five days before Christmas and the door was broken where somebody had tried to peel up the corners previously. Had a new up and over (figured I'd keep with a similar type to the previous door) door fitted, then when I had my trusted locksmith round the next day, he showed me that the new door isn't compatible with the Enfield bolts I was hoping to have fitted. After many hours of scouring the internet, I came to the conclusion there are no other extra security options on the market for up and over doors.
I have posted this system previously on other blogs about motorcycle theft from a home garage, hopefully it will help someone out there.
Great post Chops the Gardsman system looks like a serious positive deterrent.
I have however used the following system for some time as a early detection system to allow you to call the cop's, your friends or if bold enough ones self tackle the thieving scumbags oneself or release the hounds.
This only works if your garage has a power supply fed from your house.
First get yourself an old school baby monitor, the type you plug into the kids room and then your living room. Next get yourself a loud PIR alarm, preferably a plug in also, better get two. Both are cheap and available at Argos or online.
Plug the baby sender unit into your garage, the receiver unit of the baby monitor into your bedroom and make sure you can hear the sounds in the garage from the bedroom.
Fit the alarm PIR's into the garage where one will catch the door opening and one further back/ different angle just in case. You can buy these alarms quite cheaply, get the ones set with a key fob control.
Check the system works. You can put your own plan into force thereafter.
Also don't advertise you have a bike in your garage by putting signs up " bike parking only " ,etc.
Common dog...
I don’t live in a place like England where theft is so high you have to go this far. It’s unfortunate for you guys but your politicians have brought this upon you guys.
The problem is I reckon they'd lay a bike on it's side and drag it out underneath the bar if there are a few of them, which there usually are, but having said that all you can do is make it as hard as you can to try to deter them with products like this.
Like the idea. Anything that makes the scumbags think twice has got to be a good thing. I’d be really interested in getting one but they seem quite expensive - more than the excess on my insurance!
I'm looking at upping my bike security due to the way things are nowadays, so this is a well welcomed video series for sure . Thanks Chops 🙂👍
Looks good LCR, my chosen method is an unlit garage with things to trip up on everywhere with lots of nasty things around which could seriously/terminally injure the thieving c**ts if they fall on them and two nice ground anchors. 👍
Like that. Had the same issue with concrete in general...70’s house or drilling into reinforced pebble dashed concrete. As has been said, an SDS drill plus masonry bit makes it easy. I like the fact that this is not visible from the outside, rather than something substantial on the outside that says ‘there is something worth protecting in here’. I like a layered approach. You could also put subtle locks on the doors as well which deadlock down into the concrete. But you’d need an sds drill as the bolts are about double the size. I have two on each of my garages. This would be another layer, plus ground anchors. Great subject for a series of videos!👍👍
Looks a decent bit of kit tho I'd prefer the chain anchor points further up to try and keep the chain off the floor. Makes it much harder to cut with bolt croppers.
Oh Choppo your a DIY man of my own heart! no engineers in my family, if there was you would have heard of the famous leaning well of pisa and the Shard bungalow! Looks like a brill product hope its strong and cant be cut through easily? its expensive but worth it by the looks of it well made and good design! ......an order will be taking place!!
Haha brilliant 👍👍
I’ve put my ex-wife in the garage, right next to my bike. Good luck steeling it 😂.
Anyway, very interesting little kit, I do hope you’ve also reinforced the garage doors with extra hardware. First line off defense I’d say.
👍👍👍
Haha that will do it! 😂 problem with having extra door security is that then your advertising you have something in their worth nicking. It's a tricky one..
Yeah it’s tricky and it sucks you have to take all off these measurements in order to protect your property.
Sadly...
I thought the same thing so try beefing the security up from the inside. I couldn't find many products out there but I'm sure you can make something. Infact maybe you could attached something from the garage door to the guardsman? :)
My ex wife nicked the bloody bike! And the garage and the ........
I really like the "Love death robots" and "Black mirror" style intro... Nicely done. And the video is informative as always... Great job
Great idea, love the concept and design!
Wow... That showed me something I never saw before. Thanks much brother!
Looks good chops, the only thing worrying me is some bottom feeder in a 4x4 with a nice big chain defeating this.
That would wake the entire neighborhood
Had both my bikes stolen a couple of years back broke into my garage in broad daylight while I was at work cut through chains with a grinder and and even cleaned up the mess leaving no clues behind, never got a visit from the police, nobody saw or heard anything.
A pragmasis Torc Ground Anchor and 19mm almax chain combined with an alarmed disk lock stopped my motorbike being stolen. That and my mum at the window shouting at them .
Just a bit of advice, it's always good practice to lose as much slack chain as possible and keep it and the lock off the ground to prevent sledgehammer attacks etc 👍🏻
And if you can, put it round the frame or through the swingarm, wheels can be removed relatively easily 😁
Well some scumbag took mine in London and the most frustrating part is the police sent me a letter 2 weeks later saying case closed! Not even a phonecall these days. Unless you tell them you have CCTV evidence or some sort of tracker (or, god forbid, you catch the scrote in the act), they don't want to know. Just so sad that people can steal your stuff and get away with it so easily these days. Then it's almost seen as if we, the owners, are at fault for not securing it like fort knox when we take it out! (rant over).
That's a great bit of kit, cheers Chops.
Also, it's a good idea to have a motion sensor alrarm. Not one of these send you a text jobbies, but one the gives an ear-piercing shrill. I have 2 ways in to my garage so mounted them aiming at both doors. I sleep a lot better knowing that they are there. Also park your car right up against the garage door. Pain in the ass when you want to get the bike out though.
Yes good idea that 👍👍
Chops, ask Mrs Chops to buy you some decent drill bits for Christmas this year. You overheated the one you were using with far to much speed, get the right bit and those floors would have been drilled in no time. How do I know? Been there! DeWalt make some serious bits that can get through 1970's council estate spec concrete with ease lol
Good job chops fair appraisal of the new security system and its great that it is not outside of the door to attract more attention to the garage can't have enough security nowadays since some people are professional thieves deep pond for them if caught
Whilst the Guardsman may be effective, it’s a little pedestrian isn’t it 007? I would have thought some motion detecting laser beam or self-detonating Superleggera hologram might be more fitting for an agent of your calibre. DIY set up would be fun too.
Grab yourself an sds drill ; 10 seconds per hole max.
Nice review , interesting product also like the look of the ground anchor.
Big fan of your videos , your review on the suzuki gsxs1000 along with AndyManCam & 44teeth swayed me to buy it so thanks for that pal.
From Sussex with Love 🙏👊🏽
Here in Vermont we don’t use baseball bats for anything but baseball. We also have no use for police.
Never heard of this till now....cheers for that, going to get one....ASAP
There should be a same type of system with a physical bar.. that goes through ur front / back wheel and engine block (some bikes there's a gap).. that way it would be even more safe! But this is great already.
Nice vid matey....and anything that helps protect is a good thing! Re your drilling efforts.....as well as using a meatier drill, which should be SDS, do allow for the possibility that you may have hit re-bar (metal reinforcing bar) that’s often incorporated into concrete. You’d then need to use a metal drill (obviously switching off the hammer function) to drill through the bar and then continue back on with the masonry drill, back in hammer mode! It’s a bit suspicious that both the rear holes (fnarr fnarr) are in line and had the same problem thus my guess at re-bar. Good luck and stay safe!
That’s a cracking idea. Nice job mate.
Great video.... was a little shocked at the cost but I guess cheaper than the alternative i.e. having your bike pinched. :-#
Another layer for security - looks good.
Sorry, l cant see the link on my phone - what is the cost please?
Thanks
Nice one. Very helpful & timely as sadly I think there will be a lot of disreputables with too much time on their hands that're rubbing there hands together at the "opportunities" these strange time have brought. Shame we can't have spiked pits with tigers in hey. Big chains & ground anchors are a must but this does look like decent product.
Yea, it's not Saudi where a thief would get a proper treatment
Looks like a good bit of kit 👍
Thanks for this video mate!
It’s a great idea for the garage security 👍👍👍
Probably better fitted outside of the garage door?
Another good video Lamb Chop. As others have said you should have hired an SDS drill then it would have been easy.
great security... but you should have used a Hilti or Bosch hammer drill........no problem !
Looks like a decent piece of kit
I've watched somewhere that someone used an angle grinder on the pole and this taken around 45seconds. Pole not thick enough
I feel that if they put one more ramp up above that one, maybe 30cm higher it would be the best system than... so 2 total. No going underneath and very difficult to go above it...
And if they came with a van and chain attached to a tow bar would that not just pull out in seconds?
Great idea and review chops - like the idea but my garage is maximum full, i’d lose too much space - as you know every 6 inches is valuable mate
Everyone's a know-all but: I think you were putting too much weight on the drill/drill bits. They burn out if you do that. Use moderate strength to hold the drill in place and let the masonry bit do the job for which it was designed. People do the same thing with jackhammers - lean into them with all their weight. Just hold the thing upright and let the sharp end do all of the work. I learnt this the hard way after murdering a lot of masonry bits!
Thanks LC! Will look into it
Good video, bikers need to do everything we can against these scum thieves 👍. Possibly re bar set in the concrete, you need a different drill bit to cut through that. I’ve been there!
Came to comments for SDS messages, was not disappointed
SDS is what you needed mate. Im a plumbing/heating engineer so use one every day. The difference is massive compared to a conventional hammer drill.
Otherwise brilliant vid though and im tempted for one myself!
Nice kit Chops 👍 and good video thanks from Danny
Nice one Chops, looks a great bit of kit, cheers for the code too 😉👍
Thanks Bruce!!
Had that issue myself trying to drill into an 80’s garage floor for an anchor fitting. A concrete and brick dust mix destroyed one drill and laughed at the big old sod of a drill I hired... :).
Thanks for uploading, nothing more to add, it’s all down below. It’s worth a look at Thelockpickinglawyer, aside from all the locks he picks, he often gives you an idea of how long it will last with an angle grinder. As you correctly said, it’s about making it harder and slowing them down. You can forget about law enforcement, especially at the moment. Looks like these guys have made a real effort and as you said, ‘if they want it they’ll get it’, unless you are around with Mr. handy BBB. Kindest regards. A82 Joe.
Decent looking bit of kit. Enter one Pikey, stage left, with a Lidl £80 plasma cutter...
Great vid mate, will look into it 👍
I have a weird garage. It's the size of a double length garage, made of concrete but only has normal doors so you could never out a car in it. I suppose this would still work though.
TheAegisClaw yes absolutely!
A common piece of kit for a thief is the (quiet) 42" high tensile Record bolt cutter.
And you need therefore chain links that are at least 16mm to defeat the above tool (your chains looked a little small Lamb Chops!), large enclosed shackle padlocks and decent ground anchors. Better chain diameters are 19mm or 22mm (reassuringly costly and heavy) and as I think the police have said in the past, consider spending some 10% of the bike value on security.
I've used Pragmasis (I've no connection with this company) for this level of security to give peace of mind.
"I'll be downstairs with my baseball bat". Is that a euphemism? lol
You've got some solid floors there, Mate. In the U.S. you could use a handgun, shotgun, or a rifle, to defend your family and property. Oh well.
Yeah true; but here in the UK we're legally allowed to defend our property by saying "go away" in a very stern voice......works every time.....
@@MrBoybergs 😆
Nice bit of kit that.
Looks like it might be short enough for you to back a truck up to the garage and use a ramp up into the bed to go over the bar? Depending on ceiling height.
Well presented Choperoo makes great sense keep up the good work appreciated.
if your bike gets nicked the police aren't arsed but if you send a mean tweet they'll be straight round!
Good video
Higher price for the Guardsman than I expected tbh but I guess if it saves on anguish and increased insurance premiums it'd be worth it
Might be out of some folks price range though
Yes £550 with the code they setup for my subscribers. It's a fair wack of money I agree but it's a very well made bit of kit. Being all hand made in the UK not really surprised its that sort of dosh.. lot of workmanship there 👍
One of the many things I love about living in Thailand is the lack of thefts here. I rented a scooter for the first few months I was here and left the keys in it, by mistake, 3 or 4 times and it was still there when I got back. When I got my Kawasaki I bought a lock and chain to secure my helmet but after a couple of months stopped bothering. People simply don't steal stuff like that. Maybe in Bangkok it might be a little different, I don't know, but here 99% of the time your property is safe.
Not what I heard. You have those double trouble motherfuckers riding a scooter and the passangers are snatching women purses or bags etc.
@@Darkest_Soul_187 Not here mate. I've heard of that in Cambodia and The Philippines but definitely not where I am. Been here over 3 years.
Chops you numpty! SDS drill bit in a hammer drill for doing holes in concrete!
Great vids tho mate, and a great bit of kit. Also an old fork stantion is Waugh better than a baseball bat 😁👍
Oh yes fork stantion good idea!
Screwfix have cheap ones. good reviews too
Very cool video. I've found the best way to haves peaceful mind in uk is not to have a bike. Sad but true. Had to remove mine from where I live in anticipation that when corona takes over and forces are stretched even more these thugs will surely come. I have no primary transport if things go south at the moment but that’s 21st century Britain for you.
For future reference, a one day hire of a Bosch GBH hammer drill from HSS or Speedy hire and the appropriately sized SDS masonary bits and you'd have had all eight holes done in 20mins.
Awww chops, that was painful to watch 😁😁😁
The hire shop didn't help you by giving you a core drill instead of an sds.
Looks a cracking product though,fair play.👍
My garage security involves muzzle flashes and a wood chipper.
Claymores, for when you're out and aboutm
Looks a good bit of kit that Chopsy :-)
Great video, nice product !!!
lockpickinglawyer enters the chat
I would love to see LPW give this a go... guaranteed he could pick that lock in less time than it took LCR to drill the holes :)
Lol brilliant comment
First impression was it's a great idea....but then thought just a few seconds with a hacksaw/disc cutter/angle grinder through the hollow telescopic bar by the rubber grip and it would be open.
Chain rapped round the telescopic bar and attached to the tow bar of car and it will be open quicker than with any angle grinder . We need protection from the thieves trying to punt a couple bits of box section and a old scaff tube for £650 .
Great video and that product looks excellent, good stuff sir.
I've been going to supermarket to get essential supplies on my KTM 1290 SD R SE , and having a mini hoon on the long way back, so if I get stopped by Police snipers at a road block I've got a backpack full of Tesco's shopping. Stay sane everyone, cheers 👍🇬🇧
Water man, add water! Works a treat
Chops..
I’d need two for my garage which makes it way too much money.
Reduce your costs or margin, and your increase sales volumes Guardsman...
Hi Lamb Chops! Love the content always informative. When are you doing the KTM SDR 2020 bike test review. Keen to know your thoughts...
Well hopefully if KTM UK are open collecting it at the end of the month 👍👍
Lamb Chop Rides I road it Friday, what a weapon! I didn’t ride the 2.0 so can’t compare, you will want one. 😎
Great idea, but, at £900 fitted, its a bit outside my price point.
Here in the US we just make holes in softer things than concrete.
at £599 thats a little steep for one bike perhaps if you have a few bikes.
Nice one chops 👍👍👍
what is the shear strength of those bolts ?? 10ton hydraulic highlift jack comes to mind......
at home it is super easy cameras ,alarms and guard dog etc'... outside parking is scary
Looks like you've hired a core drill instead of a sds drill ! 🤔
I may have learnt something today about SDS drills... I thought it was just the attachment system 👍
Rotary Hammers, they just eat through the stuff.
Great video fantastic product 🇬🇧👍🏻
It's your revealing social media posts that gives away your security or lack of it. I just don't post my private stuff on the Internet where thieves are prowling. I see it all the time on eBay and Facebook. Loud exhausts are another signal to thieves that you are arriving or leaving. Take a different route home to your prized possessions, every time, because no matter what you use for security, you'll trip yourself up from your one lapse of concentration and if it is difficult for you to secure your items. How difficult will it be for those unaware of your routine?
Nice job well impressed 👍
I lost my 60th R1 and ZX6 track bike last year from my garage, I had locks and disc locks, disc locks were broken off, chains cut and one chain they couldn’t cut so they just left my front wheel.
One simple flaw I see with this is a car jack which most of us have in our garages put under the very end will cause a failure somewhere. I know it’s about slowing thieves down but be aware of what tools you keep in your garage. All my own tools were used to aid the theft of my bikes :(
Millga Great points. Sorry for your loss, my bike was stolen in the past as well so I fully understand your feelings.
£650 is a bit of a piss take.
With a 453 Kg Goldwing, 125Lb. German Shepherd and a 45 automatic. My bike is safe!
tbh just the 45 automatic can already be a safe measure ahaha
Thanks Chops👍
I have had a 2"x2" heavy wall 5mm box section across the entrance of my garage for years hinged through 2 - 1 1/2" hardened steel pins with close shackle shutter locks for years. It's on the outside so the thieving bastards can contemplate it before destroying the door, being outside and tight to the door approx 6" makes it difficult to open and enter to thieve (steal is too nice a word to use) anything else.
Ello mate just a bit of info for you ,if your drilling concrete or hard wall material you need a SDS DRILL- STANDS FOR SPECIAL DRIVE SYSTEM with special fitment drills ,check it out sir easy peasy.👍🏻🇬🇧
I had the same problem drilling into the floor of my house, built in 2018. What’s an SDS drill that everyone seems to know about?
SDS is just a type of chuck that you normally find on rotary hammer drills. The bits tend to be of higher quality and the drills have a higher joules-per-impact.
For really nice bikes, just keep them spotlessly clean and allow them in the house. Mine makes less mess than my dog. ;-)
Well please don't take criticism the wrong way but you've proved that any Cory can have ago and fit this 😭😭😉
Ps should have used SDS drill with more power it would have gone through like butter
