Dearest Calico (Grace & Bill) So glad to know that you are safe. The video does not do those 10 ft waves justice or true view. You are probably Land Ho already. Wishing the best in your new part of the world. Hope to see you united with SV Delos where Nugs can reconnect with Auntie Grace and Uncle Bill. Blessings on your safe arrival!
Haha nope camera never catches them! Sigh. Sadly our cruising plans will not align as they have just arrived to Australia. I think we’re gonna fly to see them 🤗
Well your almost there, wind helping out your speed, the 🌊🌊⛵⛵⛵🐳🍷🍷🌹🌹🙏waves and waves ,,,glad you are doing great How are you feeling Grace ? Beautiful Day 💐💐🌞 you are such a incredible and inspiring woman and Bill too, take care your friend From Northern California says Hello 🤗💜 should be arriving soon 🤔👍
Those look substantial! Even on camera! I recently spent 8 months on a flat bottom aircraft carrier. 12-15 foot seas made life bad on something THAT big.
Ha i believe that and it’s funny u say that bc we get comments sometimes about not having a ‘heavy’ blue water boat. But the thing is compared to the size and strength of the ocean all boats are small. We’ve sailed on heavy boats and the difference is negligible. As long as the boat is designed well and cuts through the water and the sails are balanced that’s really the best u can do (in our opinion)!
Despite the load she’s carrying with 6 months of supplies and plenty of tech spares, Calico still seems to do well in that less than ideal sea state. It’s a credit to her designer and to how you’re sailing her, it’s so tempting to power up a shade more to get a long passage done and get on anchor for a decent night’s sleep. I guess you’re about there by now, or already there. I hope that you’re all good and ready for some chill time, after all of the prep and the longest passage you’ve well and truly earned it. It’s truly a beautiful world! Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻
She really is a very fast and comfortable boat for her size. It still amazes us how much we carry and how well we keep up with other boats much larger than us. It is also really nice to be able to sail in light wind which we’ve found all over the world! (More light than heavy). Yes we’ve arrived now and are in total awe this world is amazingly beautiful that is for sure 😉 Can’t wait to share it with u!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing Great to know that you’ve made it in, safe and sound. Can’t wait to hear about your impressions of the Marquesas. Cheers and well done! 😎👍🍻
The camera never does the waves justice. Glad you guys are safe, I too tend to hide when the waves reach 10 ft. Can't wait for the next video. Have a great weekend.
I would suppose you know this,,,, but for me, when it's rough the below decks is the worst place to be. If I can see the horizon I'm generally ok. I'm not really prone to sea sickness in the first place, but when it's rough I can get queasy. That's why I avoid going below as much as possible. Love your videos, I'm glad you made it across safely! Too bad about your sail ripping out so early in your passage, but hey,,, ya made it with style. Luvya!
Yea a lot of people say that, strangely for me being able to see the horizon (generally) doesn't help much. But being outside in the fresh air can help. Thanks for this sweet message and for being here :) Looking forward to sharing the next passage vid (tom) and rest of our adventures in FP with ya🤗
A little more than a Year Ago this accomplishment was in doubt. Even tho I know you've made it...this momment seems Surreal...a word overused..save for TODAY! Congrads guys...a true achievement...
We have a top of the line mic on our good camera but we were getting tossed around and it was quite wet so gopro was the best choice for this one but when we release the full horizontal videos I’ll do some work in post/add captions to make it clearer/better audio quality ( these short vids from the passage are unedited 😏)
A little rough, but after the doldrums it just has to feel good to be making such good time again... Calico Skies weighted down with provisions and still making 6-7 knots, pretty impressive...
Hi Guys... I could see someone who pays to be raised from the seat, so they would be outside dolphins, or sticks, it would be, if I consider it is the dizziness with those waves from 11 to 14 feet, not worry, you will get used to. The patches behind the ear against the dizziness by the imbalance of the hearing liquid are more effective than pills, place 4 hours before the steamer starts, forget the coffee because it will be much worse. Very nice, congratulate us ... if you can long-fur blowing blows, they sink through the trolling between 5 to 9 feet, depends on the plumbing to be placed before the removal of the waves. 🥵🤮

Aw thank you for these sweet compliments! Thank u also for following our journey 😘
Awesome guys. All that prep work has paid off. Congrats.

Those are some big rollers!! So excited for you guy’s to arrive!!🥂🫶💃🏻
Ugh. It is so awesome that you're almost there though!!!!!
What a ride. You’re both so fortunate.
It looks like being at sea has taken the toll on both of you ! Just think of the adventures ahead ! Congrats ! take care.....
Well ya know Neptune had to slap you around a little before ya got completely across 😅
😂
Now you are sailing!!
Thanks for the update!
So glad for cruising channels like yours. I can WATCH without having to “feed the fish.”
🤗
Now that's some 🌊sailing! Stay safe out there! I love the daily videos, btw
Thank u!
In person they probably looked twice as big! Incredible!
Happy your taking them on the transom
Glad to hear you are finishing up your journey. Congratulations on crossing the Pacific, or halfway I guess.
A little lumpy out there for your last days on passage. Thats why on anchor in The Marquesas feels so good!👍😊

Raise the mison batten down the hatches.
Oh you don't have a mison
Raise it anyway😂
😂
It's amazing how a camera can't seem to show big waves. Not that those waves look small, but ten feet tall?
I was in the South Atlantic in 1982 could not sleep in my bunk ended up on the deck. That was a RFA tanker called OLNA.
Yikes. We’ve only slept outside our bunk once on passage - 7 days from Azores to Portugal… really aggressive!
The sea is angry my friend...😂
Thanks for the videos! It would be really great if you got microphones that block wind noise. Not just for passages but for all recording.

@@CalicoSkiesSailing Thanks for your reply. I think you can buy wind muffs for gopro :).
wow some serious swell
I can *feel* this video right in my belly 😅
Me too … lol

Yes! It’s amazing. She’s a very fast well designed vessel!
Champagne sailing!….🤡……glad ya all are safe.
😂😉
At least your not at the top of the mast yelling out like captain dan 😆😆😆.
😂
Will you guys be hooking up with Delos?
Sadly our cruising plans will not align in the short term. We are talking about flying to visit them in Australia instead!
The solution is to look at a fixed point of the horizon not to the waves, and take air.😅
😂
What was your hull speed like during these big waves?
We were only running with a small jib trying to time a daytime arrival, so not very fast maybe 5
How long are the two of you going to stay in French Polynesia ?
Three months :)
Wow!
😀😀👍👍👍❤❤
No tacking today!!

I use the patches and they work very well for me!

What's with these vertical short videos? Please go back to the old format.
We are putting out unedited content while sailing. There will be horizontal videos coming out over the coming weeks!
How about some real content instead of short clips?
Full videos are coming soon! Beginning tomorrow :)
