Unsung hero of the video = the sound engineer. That drum kit sounds BEAUTIFUL.
snare sound too ringy for my taste. but i like the natural sound on the kit generally.
There needs to be more of these! Grooves and fills! Nick is awesome and so are his videos. Props to Sweetwater for making this a thing.
😁👍
Here's my vote !
And mine too
The first fill is a 6-stroke roll, and if I'm not mistaken, the second fill is a herta.
Larry Casteel I would disagree ! It’s not a 6-stroke roll. It’s an inverted paradiddle played as triplets.
It is a six stroke roll, but Nick wouldn't call a spade a spade. To me, RllrrL is a six stroke roll, which we usually play as a sixteenth note triplet, to fit in one beat
@@norskov it's a six stroke roll dude!
He basically explained a six stroke roll
It is a Six Stroke Roll, quite literally it’s the exact Rudiment figure.
Yesss, such a great drummer ! you should do a weekly lesson with him
Drummers .. We have a way of sorting out information so it flows smoothly through the bottle neck. Genius.
I love that drummers language. It's how every self-thaught have learnt before taken lessons, and it's a language every drummer in the world can understand, no matter his/her country or language... and it's also way more fun =)
Those toms sound like magic...
Great singer, great drummer. Underrated.
Loving this series with Nick. Nick has the gift of being able to express his thoughts clearly , and with those amazing chops, makes it easy to understand. Well done, keep them coming.
Thanks Nick . Love your fill lessons. I practice them whenever I can. 👍
I love the 2 fill. It helps me alot.
Check out Billy Cobham as he was the pioneer of this fill in the 70's - it's called a herta.
That’s great Nick. You rock brother.
Great video. Awesome drummer and teacher.
One of my top 5 drummers, probably #3 after Gavin Harrison and Simon Phillips.
That is exceptionally high praise, given all of the monster players out there! I find Gavin Harrison and Todd Sucherman to have similar styles and abilities, at least when they're playing prog. YMMV.
YEEESSSSS! That was awesome, Nick!
thank you Nick... Such a cool explanation
Love the accent pattern on that last one. Very fun to experiment with those faster rolls!
Wow Nick fantastico grazie
when he explained what fusion is, it sounded like it was prog
same same .
That BD sounds very very good!
These drums sound sweet af
Sheets gonna be helpful brother !!!
That kit sounds amazing! Dw collectors?
progrockdrummer82 It looks like a DW Tasmanian Timber set
Looks like a smaller version of this kit: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DRKT622TZ--dw-collectors-exotic-tasmanian-6-piece-shell-pack
Fantasti and taste drummer!!!
,Hey Nick loved it but that 2nd fill is straight up Billy Cobham the father of fusion drumming not Phil Collins please correct !
Everyone uses the Herta. I think all he was saying is that’s where he heard it primarily. Not that Phil Collins invented it, but used it a lot.
Billy Cobham was a big influence on Collins’s playing in the 70s
what is the sticking technique on the 2nd fill (phil collins one)?
Wish Nick could have played it slower so i could get it..
Rlr r
Rlr L
Definitely Keneally-worthy. Few can say that.
The second fill are a group of hertas (rudiment)
@Sweetwater what mics did you use for this Video? They look very small but good enough for home usage or some youtube vidoes (just like yours!). Thanks in advance, one day I'll come visit you from europe! :)
6 stroke roll and herta

i don't understand the last fill. could anyone to explain me, how to play ?
Rlrrll Rlrrll rrll X2 (32 notes)
Rlrrll Rlrrll RlrrLrllRlrrLrllrrll (32 notes)
Made after the Meinl CC pack video? 🤣🤣👌
3rd fill is jimmy chamberlin esque
Lars Ulrich got to get back in 'padrapparraplabappa shape'...
Really cool. But for this kind of videos is better to show the notation with the sticking and accents on the bottom of the screen
the last one was a slow tempo lol....single strokes?? lol
What's funny is he's calling those "fusion" fills, yet he's playing them in context with a simple, standard rock groove.
