Nick is one of the best drummers most people have never heard of. Killer drum sounds and he plays hard, but with lots of feel and finesse. Highly underrated!
@@KyleDavisMusic Not sure he is endorsed by anyone in particular... mainly cuz he sells gear for everybody... I know he was a Mapex artist for a number of years..
This guy really is one of my most favorite musicians of all times. This album opened the door to SB to me and they’ve been one of my favorite bands ever since.
I bought it back in the day just because Portnoy praised it. I had never heard the band or even of the band. It is one of my favorite albums of all time to date.
I wish Nick as much success as possible. Super gifted player and just a really nice guy. I met him once in the studio at Sweetwater when my band was playing there. He took the time to talk with us and was very down to earth and approachable.
Love this guy so much! He's such a musician - vocals, keys, guitar, and DRUMS! So glad that I got to see him play this material at one of the few performances ever when SB (all of them) played Morsefest and played Snow from start to finish - what a weekend!
I grew up reading about Nick in Modern Drummer magazine. I think he’s one of the more underrated drummers around. The dude has chops and groove! I’m glad the sweet water thing has given him a steady gig and I enjoy the content he creates for them but dude should be getting some mailbox money!
I just remember my father blasting this down in our bacement while he worked when I was about 4-6 yrs old. I was down there too flailing my arms to it hah. 20 years later here I am listening and learning it, One of my faves for majority of my life!
Wow, two of the great things in my life, Drumeo now as I've started learning the drums, and Spock's Beard (with NDV!!) for the last 15 years, in one place! I'm overwhelmed.
Definitley a great drummer most people don't know about. The Snow Album is an absolute Masterpiece and by far the best Spocks Beard Album of all. I love the fluidity of his playing.
This.. THIS IS WHAT GOT ME really to pick up a pair of sticks and a want to get behind a kit with such a style. It's still there but besides that. My father had this cd playing doing his work while I was playing breaking/taking something apart an the basement there as well. I.. always wanted to play this and like this. also propabbly with my mother stomping on the floor that were too loud. Usuall. Thanks for that amongst other "stick" pillars Nick! ;)
Nick has got to be one of the World's most mesmeric drummers. I am so inspired to try to play like that but even after fifty years of playing I never will be able to.
Nick is still one of my favorite drummers. I love his approach, versatility, and his positive nature. He seems like a genuinely great person. Also, he looks like Jon Lovitz... no disrespect, it’s uncanny though. 😂
Just beautifully tasteful drumming from Nick. Always fantastic snare work and his all round musical knowledge means he knows exactly how to make the drums serve the song. 👍😊
Fantastic video. NDV is a bonafied badass on the drums and a great singer as well. This piece is so iconic. It was great to see it played live with the whole Spock's Beard crew.
I love this kind of music. A sheer joy to listen to. It's like classical music in a sense. This drummer looks so relaxed. Nice kit. Good drummer and band.
Just poetic drumming to the greatest prog songwriter around, Mr. Neal Morse :). So wonderful to see close up what Nick was doing on that totally epic live version of this at Morsefest 2016. How above that groove at 6:32 - I know the drumming's not necessarily super difficult at that point, but it is THE killer grove!
Wonderful! What I love about Nick is that he's got the chops, but it's especially his dynamics and softer touch that gets me. A true inspiration not only for drummers, but for musicians. Now release his performance of East Coast Racer already! (..pwetty pwease? :) )
His soft touch on on tracks like Walking on the Wind and Second Overture here are amazing. He can play as hard as anyone but also as soft as the music requires. Not a one trick pony for sure.
Nick, your reviews on Sweetwater are fantastic and truly enjoy watching them. Your an incredible performer, both behind the kit and on camera. Fantastic sir keep them coming as you truly are inspiring.
Jesus Christ dude... 1 look at the laser engraving, it is a circle.. Sabian doesn't do circles 2 look at the logo.. It does not say Sabian, but Paiste. In the lesson he could've used a different China.. Not here... It's a Paiste.
Nick is one of the best drummers most people have never heard of. Killer drum sounds and he plays hard, but with lots of feel and finesse. Highly underrated!
Agreed! SPOCK'S BEARD was a band like KING'S X where I was left wondering "HOW did these guys not make it way bigger than they did?????"
Also incredible singer!!!
@@potato4534 His "Karma" CD has some great tracks on it.
Nick's endorsements are basically just whatever he wants to play at any given time. I absolutely love his positivity and open mindedness about gear.
@@KyleDavisMusic Not sure he is endorsed by anyone in particular... mainly cuz he sells gear for everybody... I know he was a Mapex artist for a number of years..
Well since he's pretty much played everything personally doing sweetwater demos he's probably found things he really likes by most brands
It is all about the sound at the end of the day.
@@KyleDavisMusic nope. You can see k hats and paiste crashes
@@KyleDavisMusic he therefore cant be endorsed by meinl
As a Snow fan, this was FANTASTIC. He didn't just replicate the studio album, but played around with it. He is such a great drummer.
What a beast! Since his time with Kevin Gilbert, he's been the REAL DEAL!
Nick is a great prog drummer. Not only that, but great singer as well.
I love his song Mary Jane Says on the album Pieces.
And a very nice and polite man
He is a multi-instrumentalist in fact.
The only thing I've ever heard of him is the troika album, which is absolutely fantastic.
His singing voice is very much not what I would have expected, but great.
Everything brings me back to this channel. Thanks Drumeo.
This guy really is one of my most favorite musicians of all times. This album opened the door to SB to me and they’ve been one of my favorite bands ever since.
One of my favorite albums of all time. If you don't know it, BUY IT
I didn't until now!
Dude, i already have a copy of my favorite album ;)
Imho, it was a Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory moment from Spock's Beard. All cylinders firing \m/\m/
And even if you do know it, buy it!
I bought it back in the day just because Portnoy praised it. I had never heard the band or even of the band. It is one of my favorite albums of all time to date.
Snow is one of my favorite albums. Huge fan of Nick's drumming... And the tuning is on point, especially those floor toms.
Yea. He did a great job tuning Lars' snare to sound even more like a trash can than it already did.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Nick "Very Cool" D'Virgilio!
Masterpiece and one of the best drummers of all times.
One of my FAVORITE drummers ever!
Love the drumming here. Didn't realise just how good Nick is. Brilliant singer
I love this guy. His playing is unlike any other playing I've ever seen before.... Hands down one of my top favorite drummers.
What's he doing you think is unique?
@@flacidhouse350 Nothing super fancy but his touch is peculiar, many many ghost notes on the snare, there is something about his rolls too
Nick is such a fantastic drummer. His musicianship is always on point. One of my favorite drummers for sure.
I've just got to say Nick is one of my all time favourite players. The feeling through those sticks is amazing...

spicy doubles
Great album, Great SB Era, Great Mr. D'Virgilio
3 diff brands for cymbals and two diff brands for drum heads. Best thing to have when you are also a reviewer of products, basically use all of em!

3 actually. Paiste, Meinl and Zildjian
Logan Cunningham yep the hats are K’s
Logan Cunningham oh yeah guess you’re right. Didn’t even notice
No sabians because of that hideous new logo probably 😂 and i play Sabian!
Logan Cunningham yeah 4 sure the new ones terrible

Masterpiece. Period
Nick making those 13/8 bars sound so natural you hardly notice they're odd meters!

One of the best early century albums, especially in prog.
What was that music over the outro of the video?
