I feel like 1910 is a great choice for coming to NYC in fall, there are those great layering sweaters/coats. Just triple check the weather, we've been really warm a lot of the past few autumn into winter seasons!
Ik! The second the 5th came when all outdoor pools were closed, Bam came in at 90° in September.
I was in New York October 2019 and it was so warm for lil Scandinavian me. I was sweating!!!
@@audreym3908it was quite warm on the 5th in the north of England too! Not quite as warm as 90° but it reached about 80° here! Definitely odd haha
@@audreym3908That's beautiful
Use hatboxes and Fedex or USPS them to your hotel! 😊
Wow, this is exciting that you're fully committing! I'm here for it. I'm looking forward to seeing fall and winter outfits too.
Me too! If there’s one place you can dress however you want it’s NY! It’ll be fun to have a little fall wardrobe when I get home too.
@@thesewloartistToo true. In the city, no one’s going to look twice, except maybe to pay you a compliment.
Looking forward to the opera look
Will you plan to allow folks to stop you for photos?
If yes, please plan extra time.
Yeah... 1910s makes you blend in everywhere... Classy and timeless...
Oh my is way over 100 years.old. 😮 Although I am not surprised with people living longer and longer.
I’d love to see a video where you just take us on a day in your life and see people’s reactions to you! That would be awesome!
Everybody upvote this comment!!!!
You look like a fabulous print model from 1910.
Simply gorgeous!
My great grandfather was born in 1910 in Italy, his parents immigrated to America when he was 4 months old. He is still with us today and just recently met his great great grandchildren🥰
So he’s 113 years old? Wow that’s top 10 of oldest men ever.
I was just thinking the same thing! He's 113 years old!? Wow. How is he doing?
@@c.h.5389 he is actually doing well! He does live in an assisted living home now but he’s still kicking! My kids love him to pieces 🥰
When it comes to traveling with hats, you can still get decoration boxes that do the job as a hat box, if you're able to remove some decorations then they be stacked to take up less space, putting a handkerchief or the like between for protection is a good option.
If not that, a suit case would be an good option too, with some lightweight support inside and around it.
I hope this comment becomes more visible
hat stores still sell hat boxes
In practical terms some of that lightweight support can be garments that you'll be traveling with anyhow; more solid cotton items inside the crown, lighter items around the top of the brim in case your case gets turned upside down.
You want to gently sandwich your hat in from both sides so it's held without being crushed.
Formal wear stores still sell hatboxes.
That's beautiful. We need this class back.
This is why hatboxes were a thing and ladies got the reputation for traveling with lots of luggage
the greedy airlines do not approve tho hahahah
I so admire your gumption!! Your historic clothing is so beautiful and you take so much pleasure in wearing them. So many of us (especially me) lack the self confidence to wear these gorgeous outfits in public, but you pull it off with style and Grace. Kudos to you, stylish woman! Have a fabulous vacay!
You can ease into public period wear. Do you wear skirts and dresses anyway? If not, start with regular ones from now. Lots of camisoles, slips and onesies just to get accustomed to layers. Start adding period undergarments to replace contemporary ones. A regular blouse and bolero will help you feel at ease with the two piece blouses on top. Slowly move tops and bottoms backward in time until you have the full monte. Start with a scarf, then a headband, then a beret, then a small fascinator, a small hat, then let the hats get bigger. A sun hat in summer you don't have to ease into, just get a corresponding big hat for fall, follow for winter, etc.
@@cheche373 I'm too big to wear these beautiful clothes. I could pull off Mrs. Patmore from Downton Abbey though
Nay I say! The red petticoat in Gone With the Wind. There's a Coco Chanel movie where a dress they made for a large woman didn't fit. Coco styled a different one and it worked. You may have to find a different silhouette than what our svelte lady here wears, but it can be done. There were plus size ladies then, too. They did not just stay home!
@@dovie2blueNot so Miss, my Aunts are full figured and they have pics from back in the day, they look absolutely marvellous. Find a well priced tailor if need be but you can definitely wear this sort of look❤
One of my favorite eras in women's fashion! 💛💛💛
My home is 1911.
So it's neat to see this Era of the women who lived here and how they dressed. 1910-1912, it's so special. This helps me get into this. Wow.
Hat boxes were invented for a reason
My first thought!
Yes. I instantly see Rose getting on the Titanic with all her luggage and a couple hat boxes
I don't know of any other way to travel with nice hats... other than on your head, of course! 😂
Kinda snarky, aren't you?? You could say " I think hat boxes are still available, if not get a cardboard box and reinforce it with tape to carry your beautiful hats" Being decent to one another is not difficult, just a thought process. Good luck to you
@@bethanystpaul5683 snark is my native tongue.
Beautiful! The dress is stunning….hat is perfect!
Hat bags/boxes are a great choice for travelling with delicate or highly decorated and big hats. They do take up a bit of room, but depending on your mode of transport there are always around that ☺️ have so much fun on your trip! And enjoy the opera!!
Ooooooh that dress is GORGEOUS!
The 1910s ( + the 1900s Edwardian era as well) was definitely my favourite, alongside the 40s. It seems war-time brings about the best fashion lol.
More specifically, I liked 1908-1914 and 1946-1952.
The spare cut and color of the dress point to a military influence. The cross body button pattern is interesting, it adds texture to an otherwise plain design. It reminds me of the green khaki uniforms for women Marines in WW2.
Not all are look at the nazis clothes
Beautiful clothes and you’re stunning wearing them too
I absolutely love that dress!
You are so awesome. Thanks for including us in your life. PS, those is one of my favorite fashion eras!!!❤
Oh my gosh I thought I was alone or weird for loving all those old styles of cloths! I always have but as I live in a very rural area, don't know how to sew, and nobody I know loves this stuff like I do I e always just kept it to myself. I absolutely love your videos and live vicariously through you for sure. What I wouldn't give to be able to dress like that even just once in my life. Also my daughter is geared towards the 1950's style of cloths and as she gets older I e noticed she dresses more and more like that. I'm 46 so I figure probably to old to start now but I'm so happy my daughter is bold enough to wear what she loves regardless of what others may think and funny thing.....her husband absolutely loves and adores her no matter what she chooses to wear. Thank You so much for sharing and posting your videos!

This is such a beautiful outfit! Great era choice! Enjoy your trip!
OMG NO WAY, I’M MAKING A CORSET FROM THIS ERA😂
You are gonna bring these looks back into fashion for real!
Tip? A ladies maid & many hatboxes.
Also read Gail Carriger. She has a few connected series with a long running arc about fancy, & enormous & over the top hats, particularly when traveling. (The 3rd in the Soulless trilogy & Prudence & Imprudence)
I love that gown on you. I love the design. You are so lovely in the gown. The hat is the bomb!
I'm currently planning on an 1890s to 1900s capsule wardrobe for a trip to Florence in November. 4 nights, so not too much, but trying to figure out how big of a suitcase I need 😫
In the turn of the century, they would have used leather weekender or carpet bags for short trips. You will likely need a walking suit (or two, but one is accurate) in a neutral color, four cotton shirtwaists, a nightgown or two, underthings including 3-4 combinations and two petticoats, and a dressy shirtwaist and skirt for dinner. You can wear the same boots, hat, and coat for all occasions if you choose the right ones. They should be able to all fit in a carpet weekender bag. I hope this wasn't repetitive, but it's taken roughly from an article in the Delineator from around 1896.
And I just realized you already went! What did you bring and did you have a good time?
So flattering on your silhouette!
That green is stunning. 😍😍
The hat is EVERYTHING 💫
I’m doing my family tree & my family was in New York in the 1910s! You video is so on point for me; right now! I look forward to your daily videos! ❤❤❤❤ (I’ll check videos around the Fall date in the description)!
Beautiful outfit! Wonderful era! ❤
The dress is amazing 😻
I love to dress in the 1950's texas style i think the girls clothes were so pretty and i wish they wore them today. I have lots of vintage dresses that i wear everyday and i love seeing othe people dress in different eras too ❤
Hat boxes definitely and try and find one that’s the same height as your suitcase. I believe it’s possible to make them yourself and Lynn McMasters might have a design? Lots of packing inside (I pack mine at home with similar hats inside each other) and I find soft things like stockings, scarves etc pack out the remaining space and keep the hats nice. But bonnet or band boxes were really common when travelling. Would deffo recommend a hard shell suitcase or carrying as hand luggage
This is beautiful!!!💚💚💚
1910s is my favorite silhouette. I just think it is so soft and pretty looking. 😭
I'm feeling the 1910 fashion. It's so elegant.
Gosh, that is absolutely stunning.
I’m kind of stuck in that area too. I love the Victorian era. Thank you for those beautiful posts with your sweet smile and those clothes bringing back memories from another lifetime.
Dude, I just wanna know where you get your beautiful hats!! The 1920's is one of my favorite eras, but I can't seem to find any other hats besides the basic cloche.
Really can't afford to take on hat making as a hobby too. Lolol
You look gorgeous, and the fact you wear your looks out and about is so inspiring. 💜
That wallpaper! ❤
I love watching all your videos. They're not only fun and beautiful, but I love all the factoids and the hats!
I really need the pattern for that green dress. It's gorgeous
Hard sided hatbox is a must have. You can roll up your smaller items around your hats, waste not, want not!
I'm from NYC, and unless it's the last week of September (or you run very cold) you really won't need outerwear besides a light sweater! Especially with the extra layers.
We’re going in late October or early Nov! I’m actually from a cold climate so I feel like I know what to expect but it’s so important to be prepared. Being cold on vacation is miserable
@@thesewloartist 🤦♀️ My bad, I thought you said September!
Timeless perfection!
I love this period because one of my favorite books, “Howard’s End,” is set in this time period and I love that you show me what they might have been wearing!
I absolutely love your content. I've always loved the early 1900s fashion. I honestly have love and appreciate all of the 1900s fashion but there's just something timeless and classic about the early 1900s. Even before that in the 1800s.
Love 1910 style love the dresses but the hats! Man how I wish they were still a thing I’d wear them everywhere so pretty.
I love this channel. I’m so fascinated with history and how fashion has evolved
The hat is a stunner!
😍😍 this silhouette and colour on you is Devine! I’m so looking forward to seeing the outer wear and opera looks
Damn, my chosen era is late 1890s to 1901ish but that dress and hat look great!
god that dress is incredible
Please don’t take Our Lord’s Name in vain. Peace!
Madame. I just gasped. That's FABULOUS.
Absolutely gorgeous. Tips traveling with hats? Hat boxes.
Love the outfit.
Cute outfit. Love the hat!
As always, lovely. Your going away outfit for your wedding was gorgeous too, by the way.
Absolutely the BEST YEAR for fashion!!! 😊
So much fun! The 1910 looks great even for today! Keep sharing
So elegant!
I love this look. This is really nice cool style!
I have pictures of grandmother looking like this. (My mother was born in 1911 ) Although grandmother was only 4’9” tall and petite like a little bird, she was always immaculate with incredible hats. She had 3 children very close together, the youngest was almost 11 pounds at birth and a breach birth (how she survived I don’t know) My grandfather died in the First World War weeks before the youngest was due to be born.
She was tough, brave and had that “Carry On” British indomitable spirit though she went about her business very quietly.
Obsessed with this dress and silhouette 🤩
One of my favorite outfits!!
Your eyes are incredibly beautiful 😻
Sleek! Classic! Iconic!✨🤩
New York is fantastic!! Have fun and I can’t sit to see your wardrobe!

This sounds like huge fun!!
I love this dress! You look beautiful. Great color too. 😊
STUNNING ❤
Just saw this short. Gonna have to see more when I'm awake at a reasonable hour. Just got a house from 1911, and I'm looking for inspiration and a starting point to get or make clothes that match the house. 🙂
Well if you’re coming to NYC in September, then still dress for summer weather tbh. Bc it doesn’t start becoming “cooler” till probably October now. And even then, that’s when we experience all four seasons within the same day.
6 AM - 10 AM: Sweater weather
11 AM - 4 PM: Summer all over
5 PM - 11 PM: All bets are off, it could rain, sleet, or snow depending on what the day feels like 😅
STUNNING
That is a great style !!
I love your hats! I am obsessed with hats!
You look absolutely breathtaking dear!! I feel like most people wear their clothes but that dress is wearing YOU!! Absolutely beautiful!! Have fun on your trip, we look forward to seeing any content you chose to share! I'm sorry I have no idea what to tell you about your hat situation. Obviously, ladies used hat boxes but I'm sure you know that! 😊
I LOVE THIS OUTFIT!
You are radiant in olive ❤
oh wow, that outfit is gorgeous
This Gal is gorgeous!
What is great for me is to see what my grandma ( born 1881 ) was wearing in the 1910’s .
That slip looks so comfy and it's making me want to make/buy one
1910 best robe and color ever seem thanx you to share with us♥️
The hat and dress are so slay I don’t think I could pull it off but you can
I adore what you do and the styles you show : I did however need a moment with the phrase ‘it’s only an eight day trip and we’ll be going to the opera’ 😂 😅 only eight days.. goodness
Day 2 of asking to plsss dress up as the Schuyler sisters from Hamilton! ❤
very nice you look amazing and love the hat. I have even thought about making women's wide brim hats, I personally call them (Sothern Bell style).
Well a classic 1910ʻs hat box of course. They made nice round cases for hats to travel in!
