  • What would it be like if you could sing better instantly? What if it was that easy? In this video I explain a simple vocal technique called "inalare la voce", which in Italian means "inhaling the voice". This easy singing exercise will help you open your throat and free your natural voice. Let's get started!

You really did a great job of communicating! I have been practicing 'leaning on the breath ' for several months now, so that it becomes the "default" position, as you said. You are too cute! What you just described, about maintaining the openness of the throat as you exhale, is exactly what you are going for. You maintain the expansion of inhale throughout the phrase as you exhale. When done correctly, it almost feels like you have an infinite amount of air beneath you for your voice to float on top of. Your job is to simply maintain the openness of your throat and the expansion of the torso and LET the air flow through you. This is what is meant by "let it happen" as opposed to making it happen when you sing. You really explained things well! You are a gifted teacher. Thank you for clarification! Thanks!

Hi Madeleine, thank you for your wisdom and time really appreciate it! Would you recommend doing this kinda exercise (the open yawn inhale) every time we breathe or would that be too forced? I'm an aspiring selftaught that is battling the building tension in the throat while singing. When I tense up to support I always tend to build tension in the wrong neck/throat area. Nonetheless, I'll try this and see how it feels. I'd love to hear / read your take on this. Stay safe :)

I would compare this to deflating a balloon. Don't press on it, just let the air coming out by itself. As soon as you're trying to add effort, tension follows.

Please react to singer/songwriter Hua Chenyu. He's a good example of stage presence, vocal transitions, emoting, and probably a bunch of other things that you'll notice, while I just enjoy the results. "Qi Tian" (from Singer 2018) is a good introduction to Hua Hua, partly because he composed it. I'd love to hear your analysis.

Great video on "Inalare la Voce" Madeleine. I really like the idea of preparing a note before it even begins. Kind of like when throwing a ball, it is best to follow through after letting go of the ball. - Justice Constantine
