  • It DOES get hot. If you push it. And some of us will push it, because it's the nature of what we need to do with it. So no. It's not cool to the touch forever just because some hype people say it is. It gets hot too. It just takes longer. But it does get hot.

So how long is the video you're exporting? And hows the performance for video editing ? And does it only get hot when exporting long videos.Sorry for the questions I'm highly considering MacBook Pro m1 for video editing basically for my daily driver.

Great questions! The video was around 1hr long, 4K, graphics and animations. And because I’m using 3rd party plugins that aren’t updated for Apple silicon yet they’re working my Mac extra hard since it has to go through Rosetta 2.
I expect performance and capabilities to increase once the Apple silicon native versions of the plugins come out.
For me, it only gets hot when I’m exporting long videos, or when I have a bloated editing timeline that consists of 3rd party plugins.
I often also have a few communication apps open for work.
For now I’d say if you edit with just Final Cut and Motion, without any plugins, then this is a great machine and you’ll probably find it very difficult to run the fans like I do. It edits very smoothly.
But I use third party tools and some aren’t compatible with the Apple silicon version of final cut and motion so sometimes I’m using an intel version of final cut for compatibility purposes, which adds to the processing burden. It edits smoothly for the most part with 3rd party tools, but there are times it beachballs and freezes up and I have to close and reopen the app and everything runs fine again.

@@EddieFrolic23 anytime mate! You’ll love it. And you have a good return window, so I recommend once you get it, immediately set it up and run through every app and test your workflow, and if everything works then hooray! But if things are buggy take some time to see if you can troubleshoot and get around the issue (that’s what I ended up doing and now my M1 is my daily driver), and if you can, keep it, but if you can’t, then you can always return it. I have a couple of other videos showing some serious problems I had with software and the M1, but I’ve since figured out ways around each issue, which work for now until everything gets updated for native support.

Same here, I was told that it consumes so little power with such a great performance, so it does not get hot with pretty annoying high pitch fan noise. It is definitely cooler than my working pc, but not much cooler than other laptops I've been using. I use it for development, I have several docker images with Java project running simultaneously in the background (front + backend essentially). With my usual workflow, it is consuming almost 14-15 Gb of ram and the MacBook is running at full speed. Maybe it would improve in the future when fewer apps would require Rosetta for translation of x86 apps, but now, I can definitely tell, that it is kind of overhyped, once apple manage to fully utilize this little machine it would run hot, no magic here as pro-tubers says (unfortunately, not everyone out here is using mac only for video and image editing)

I have a MacBook Pro with the M1 chip. And I’m exporting a video now. The computer is so hot and I’ve never heard the fan kick on since I’ve had it. I’m only using iMovie, just worried about damaging it

Had it for over a month. But i exported a video a few weeks back in premier and it was a 4K video (32gb), exported in about 30 mins and didn’t get hot at all. Just confused, would think I movie would handle it better

Use the TG pro, to control the fans and monitoring it, I think it might help a little

The MacBook Pro M1 gets hot when you are playing games from Apple Store, too. That is the truth.

It's strange because the hearthstone for me doesn't make the computer go above 35C°, but the crossy road or among us is around 70C°, I really think it's an optimization problem, with time maybe they'll fix it little by little (MBP M1)

@@sirzackefeller Yes, because when someone have more like 100.000 subscribers, other company pay for video like this.

Not sure I follow exactly what you mean, but I can assure you I haven’t been paid by any company for these videos. I just got the computer myself to see if it lived up to all the hype I was seeing. And yeah for the most part it does, but with a couple of caveats most people don’t address, which is what I want to show other prospective buyers.
