Jim
Mickey Rooney is one of the few people I can think of that lived a full life. He's been in films since he was so little, and continued doing films for 93 years until his death. And boy what a talent he was, he's done everything, musicals, Broadway, Comedies, drama's, and even a biography. He was honored, tributed, and lived long enough to see it all. He's a huge inspiration to me, and I sure wish I met him. The best part is, he didn't die of AIDS, Cancer, or an infection, just old age, like everyone should.
Sadly he received a large amount of elder abuse in his latter days. He was stolen from, physically beaten and verbally abused by those closest to him.
@@torbslifre7418even caught on camera during an interview. That shit was wild.
@@gjmarkjesse1324 really? When was that?
@@torbslifre7418 look up the video The Elder Abuse of Mickey Rooney by the Hollywood Reporter. In the middle of the interview, he gets kicked in the leg pretty bad.
@@gjmarkjesse1324 Yeah, I see. Thankfully he got out of that situation before his death.
a band playing Swing Music back in those days, always got the party crowd going.
Mickey Rooney was a born performer. Multi talented.
ALL OVER DUBBED BY REAL MUSICIANS.....Rooney was FAKING IT as were each member of the band.....the studio band is what you heard after production. Mickey did play drums BUT OBVIOUSLY NOT PROFESSIONALLY.
Look at the way Judy looks at Mickey playing the xylophone! xxxx
I'm 26 and have seen this movie a million times! This was amazing and it's great it's on here for so many others to enjoy "the drummer boy" love you #JudyGarland
No actor alive today compared to Mickey Rooney
Outrageously talented!!!

That was absolutely fantastic.
Mickey and Judy. The dream team! What talent!!!!!! Love this it's fabulous! xxxx
“Say, kids - I betcha if we all just picked up all of the Paul Whitman Orchestra’s instruments and started playing without any sheet music and no rehearsal, we’d sound exactly like the full MGM studio orchestra!”
Amazing drummer. Very under-rated.

@@raylombardo4186 As I had read somewhere Rooney played by ear and was a fast learner. The little guy was a hot talent and a force of nature! TOO talented for his own good because it made him brash and cocky and got him in "bad boy" trouble a lot.
I was always amazed at how similar in talent Sammy Davis Jr. and Mickey Rooney were. They were both just amazing! :)

I'm 35 years old, but was brought up by my dad to enjoy and treasure classic films, which I still do to this day. Some of my favorites include to duo of Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland (ie: the Andy hardy series). But this film in particular has a special place in my heart. Thanks so much for posting it!
Rooney & company must have rehearsed this number scores and scores of times! The band players were obviously professional magicians in real life but Mickey was just a rank amateur with exceptional abilities in rythm and playing by ear.
Ahhh...remember when movies were done with poise and class...I can watch this over and over.
A great scene from a great classic musical. Judy Garland at that age was unsurpassed in every category and Mickey Rooney was Cary Grant's answer to the question "Who would you say is the most talented person in Hollywood?"
They just make I'm like this anymore, miss these movies, rip Micky
One of the greats...take a good look...this was America when it was America.
Love the clothes and styles. Great song.
Oh that jazzy swing! With sass and attitude too!
No one should ever doubt the talent and charisma of Mickey Rooney. He was just amazing. Thanks so much for watching.

Mickey did great in this. But I call shenanigans on all of those guys being in high school. :D

This is great! I have never seen the movie before, so this was quite a treat! Thank you so much for posting! Mickey Rooney is just wonderful.

Glad I decided to click this on.... That took quite a bit of drumming skill to do! Even if he was playing to a sound track. He made it look like he wasn't. It looked like he was actually playing live!
Thanks Mickey!
R.I.P. Mickey!
This is really good shit. This is AMERICAN music.
Sometime back in 78 or 79 I recall seeing a old B&W movie with him and i think some of these guys were in it and trying to solve some crime mystery, it was a mixture of comedy and action. I was very young but still remember how entertaining it was and to this day I cannot find that movie in his filmography?
Rip dear Mickey!

Such fun! Thanks.
You are very welcome! The first time I saw this it just knocked me out. Thanks so much for watching it!

WOW
Pure magic!
Badass!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
For some reason, whenever I watch this, I watch Rise next, by Public Image Limited. Either that, or the other way around. I'm not sure why, just that there is some kind of connection. One glaring, the other smiling.
still sooo cool!!
Aww Mickey is so cute!! Thank you for posting this :)
Yes the couple is here to take over
@azw596 Yes, he was much loved in our family too. My dad was amazed at how talented he was at such a young age. I didn't think much about it at the time but I sure appreciate it today. Thanks so much for watching!
Jim
This is amazing. I have my head in my hands clinging at my hair in astonishment. That is after I finished dancing at my desk and clicking my fingers in rhythm.
XD

His facial expressions while playing the drums say it all. Dude was getting down

@@raylombardo4186 you need to learn your history and what you're talking about. Rooney did play the drums and its been known for the past 80 yrs
dude, I never wrote he did NOT play drums. I'v eseen him in many films playing drums. Read my text w/o editing it. If you really believe he played this track and not a studio drummer, then you have no idea how movies are made and to what extent Rooney was able to REALLY play. @@basketcas3717
Pretty talented Band members too.Leonard Sues on trumpet was a talented player and composer.Died way too young and of course the incomparable Sid Miller,Mickey's buddy and hellraiser.

A couple of lines before the scene
The very beginning sound an awful lot like Hit the road Jack, by Ray Charles.
the Diatonic Phrygian Tetrachord (in the key of A, the descending sequence A, G, F, E) -- used in thousands of songs for generations . . . www.wnyc.org/story/worlds-most-used-musical-sequence/
Since when does the drummer get the girls?
This song sounds like Brains from Billy & Mandy ?
Nice :-).
Who's that gal in the big dress?
Before ya'all jump all over me, I already know. I've seen rainbows too.
He does WAY better fake drumming in _The Strip_ (1951).
Yes, he did, but he was older and was tutored better and personally better after time.
Think Rooney was the only person who could play an instrument in this Sketch.
Even still he was miming along to a pro drummer's recording.

For sure the saxophonists are FAKING it.
If the Top button on the sax. The Auxillary F key is fingered, whilst other keys are being activated by any of the other fingers ,
except another key being closed by the middle finger of the left hand) and a side key of the right hand, a terrible sqauking sound would ensue.
commonly seen to be carried out in movies
I get the feeling the drumming is slightly out of sync. with the Sound Track.
