      You change every piece of clothes every day?? I hear this often from Americans and somehow I always wonder what it is that you ppl seem to find so disgusting about yourselves. I am, like many other Germans, used to wearing clothes until they get dirty or start smelling. Only for underpants and socks I got educated to change them everyday. But who on earth has smelly legs? I think nobody, not even if you wouldn't shower for weeks. So where is the problem with wearing a pair of jeans several days? They also live much longer when they don't get washed too often!

    • @loveskyfirefly

      @@EasyNaturalLiving the places we sit have germs and I’ve seen people on the bus/train with exposed butt crack casually sitting and then they get off at their stop and another person sits in the exact spot not knowing 🤢 so yes switch your pants . Wearing bras consecutively causes them to losen and wear faster. Not to mention sometimes woman sweat there sometimes (well I wonder if that’s true for smaller breasts 🤔). Idk I’ll wear jeans/ pants multiple times only if I just wore them for an hour or two and didn’t ride public transit/sit in public areas. Just wash denim in cold water and hang dry and those bad boys will last you.

    • @EasyNaturalLiving
      @EasyNaturalLiving 4 роки тому +1

      Okay, but I rarely use public transit, usually I just walk to the supermarket etc. And bras should air out after every day of wearing, so i always switch between two of them, and have another one for days when the other two are in laundry, plus two sports bras. Sweat inside the bra can happen to me on very hot summer days, but then I mostly wear bikinis and go to the river or just don't wear a bra, they are just too warm for hot days 🤷🏼‍♀️

      @@EasyNaturalLiving no bra?!!! What about the bounce girl lol. Don’t listen to me I’m American but my parents immigrated to the US from Latin America so I was raised conservative so idk how the average American sees it. My mom is a clean freak and a nurse and thought my brother and I to be super clean. She’s the one that taught me to switch my bras everyday and pants. Her big thing was smelling bad cuz the outside has a smell too.

    My grandfather lived a very long life. He only owned one everything that he needed. He had one couch 1 TV one lamp one lamp stand in his living room in his bedroom he had one pillow one blanket one sheet when pillowcase the list goes on. This was 40.50 years ago.
    Way back then he taught me about the secret of longevity and life and health he was a true minimalist before anybody even thought of the word. At the age of 86 he used to walk 10 miles a day into the city from the country and he would walk around talk with some friends go down to the park feed the birds have a late lunch have his tea Etc & man take the city bus home . I kid you not.
    Even in the winter he would bundle up and walk 10 miles a day. He hardly had any stress he had no telephone he said he didn't need it and he had the house paid for and he only got one bill a month and that was a hydro bill.
    I definitely could write a book about being a minimalist once you become one you think you know you are one when you really aren't it has to be something that was already inside of you like my grandfather. It's not something that you acquire or forced to do for some reason it's always been inside of you..

      Absolutely time has changed people's lives have changed the world's got bigger however I know a few people personally better leaving the cities and moving into the country and living off the grid.
      And you're seeing more and more of this every year. Look for instances covid-19 it affects areas that are congested morso and in small towns. Look at Saskatchewan as an example in Canada most of the people are out in the field working I have no time to sit around chitchat gossip whatever and it seems to be the less populated place people are living happier and healthier.
      Yes I feel that a science has proven longevity is associated somewhat to are mental state of mind the place we live the food we ingest exercise etcetera. There was a song put out in the 70s by Terry jacks and was called concrete Sea.
      Me being a country girl and most of my neighbours who also onde woodstoves and work the land used to love this song it says a lot. Thank you for sharing on this platform have a wonderful day and may God be with you

    Two pairs of jeans, two pairs of shoes. Several tshirts in different shades of gray, and a few cardigans and jackets. I own no bras, but I think I have about thirty pairs of panties, all cotton and high-waisted. A few loose cotton muumuus for sleeping. And that pretty much sums up my entire wardrobe.

    • @KNRK379

      Minimal or not, a family with kids wears clothes everyday. They use towels and sleep on sheets. Especially a family (like ours) who uses cloth in the kitchen, cloth diapers, & cloth wipes, the laundry does add up. When considering the water used for laundry, it's also important to consider the amount of water needed to create new versions of these products (paper towels, paper napkins, disposable diapers, etc.) Overall, washable, reusable products use less water than continuously making new. Just some food for thought.

    • @shaymaier5342
      @shaymaier5342 4 роки тому +11

      @Kiya but washing fewer times doesn‘t mean you can‘t use reusable and washable items. You should wait at least until you can fill your washing machine completely otherwise it is a huge wast of water and detergent every single day and that adds up. Plus you can usually wear your clothes multiple times.

    • @KNRK379
      @KNRK379 4 роки тому +6

      @@shaymaier5342 , I generally wash a load of laundry a day & all of them are either full or to the capacity of the water level. It is very common for families with children to wash a load of laundry a day. For example, I wash adult laundry 2x a week, kid laundry 1x, Diapers 2-3x, kitchen linens 1x, and I alternate sheets & towels each week.
      Most of those loads are full washers. And for the ones that aren't (like diapers/kitchen) I don't see the difference between 3 small loads and 1 big load. if the water level matches the cloth, it's negligible. Especially when frequent laundering prevents mold &/or makes sure we have supplies to keep functioning.

Just an interesting question!

Therefore, we had an eye opening moment that we still had way too much even after decluttering for 2 years. This was really inspiring because my husband and I watched this together, thinking "we should only own 2 of these things". Thanks for the inspo per usual.

    I really love how she says that ,, I can wear this ... and feel fabulous'' because it promotes the idea of wearing clothing to feel nice and confident and for it's comfort not because it just looks good. I like that she owns a few garments from each category so that she can evaluate what her options are and not get lost in the big pile of pieces of clothing most people have. Sarah alsow promotes the idea of quality is better than quantity when she shows the audience that she only has two pairs of jeans that she absolutly loves which teaches us about keeping things that bring us joy and getting rid of the others.

    New subscriber. I find it so interesting how different people put emphasis on different areas. I am living more minimally, however I don’t consider myself a true minimalist. I don’t have a very minimal wardrobe, but I don’t have a very excessive wardrobe either. I have 6 pairs of dress pants for work, 1 pair of jeans, around 12 tops. I have 6 bras and 7 pairs of panties. I find it so important to have enough clothes so that I only have to do laundry once a week. I only have to do two loads of laundry per week and the idea for me of doing laundry is exhausting. Just find it interesting to find what is important for different people. Interesting video. Can’t wait to watch more videos.

    Bras are hard to own two of for me. I work out and I’m very prone to body acne and I’ve found clean bras and showering right after helps prevent breakouts. I also can’t wear 1-2 pairs of pants. Body odor man. Even with daily showering.

    • @macklikescheese
      @macklikescheese 4 роки тому +1

      You should own more than 2 bras. Your bras need somewhere from 24-48 hours between wears for them to regain their shape. You really shouldn't wear the same bra day after day as it breaks the material down faster and leads to wires popping out and the bra stretching out and no longer fitting properly. Plus a bra needs to be washed less to maintain structure and giving it time to lay out and breathe after a wear is the best practice to not having bacteria build up but also not over washing your bras. People who over wash and over wear their bras end up buying more bras over time because of faster deterioration. I've have bras for years that still look new because I own about 4-5 regular bras and 4 sports bras and follow these guidelines

    Well the truth is in Poland people own so little and are kind of “minimal” cause sadly they have no other choice... wenn you earn 1800 a month (no matter what currency it is, it could also apply to another country) and need to pay 1300 rent plus electricity, phone, internet etc you just don’t have the money to buy proper food let alone 50 bras or 100 pairs of shoes! Btw. It is a Real example (my sister still lives in Poland while I moved with my parents as I was a kid) and I’m so sad and angry that I had so many more opportunities as a child/teenager then my older sister in her whole life! And I didn’t do much - just moved to another country.

    I am not a minimalist as of yet but I have began to declutter and getting rid of things. I don't want to be the person that only has a certain number of belongings because that is what society says makes a minimalist...I want to have whatever I truly use and whatever brings me joy. I do see why owning 2 yoga mats in your case makes sense. I only own one but I never work out outside so that makes sense for me. I also see why u wanted to own 2 scissors but for me it's a little different because I too live in a 2 story house and I really hate having to go downstairs when I'm upstairs to get scissors so I own 3. I think people should own whatever number of things makes sense for them.

    I started laughing when you showed the scissors. Growing up, my poor mother was constantly searching the house for scissors because we kids would take them to use for crafts...and leave them...somewhere? When we got older she bought at least 10 pair of scissors. And by that time we'd either moved out of the house, or were responsible enough to put them back! I now have a gorgeous pair of fabric shears--made in Japan, bought in Japan. The brand is "Clover." They are used ONLY for fabric.
