    Thanks! If I tape down my start switch it works perfect snd the timer runs normally on the dry cycle selector. Looks like I’m hot wiring my switch to constant on…

    Switch inside the motor needs to transfer from start mode to run mode. The motor needs to come up to speed and there's a centrifugal switch that's not closing when at the correct speed. Start winding on the motor gives it the starting torque it needs.

    Great instructional Drew,
    won't it shorten the motor life if you run with start switch depressed or shorted closed?

      No. The centrifugal switch is a spdt in this situation. As long as the start windings portion of the switch opens in about half a second, the motor should be fine. Motor doesn’t care where it gets power from.

    i installed my dryer today. it was working fine for years at the old place. now it only runs while holding down the start button. maybe i'll just tape the start button down. is it safe to leave the start button taped down all the time or do i need to unplug the dryer or something when not in use?

    In this situation, why would it sound like the motor is running normal when you hold it down, but the drum not turn?

      The idler switch can also be called a belt switch. The dryers is designed to give this symptoms if the belt falls off or breaks.

    where is this idler switch so I can change it?

    • @drewbrown9678
      @drewbrown9678  3 роки тому +2

      It is next to the motor under the idler arm.

      @@drewbrown9678 Thanks. I changed it and that fixed the problem. There are videos on youtube that say to remove the drum. I did that, wondering how I would ever get the belt back on, and then saw that I could remove the left side panel. Then it was easy to change the belt switch and put the belt back on, which I actually never needed to remove in the first place.
