I have a 1997 Sportster with a basic 1275 kit in it. It runs just fine at speeds over 100mph, so I don’t know what’s wrong with yours. It’s VERY smooth and revs without any problems. I’ve been riding for over fifty years and ridden many bikes and this one is so much fun. Sportsters are the most reliable Harleys ever made and although I always rode Triumphs until I got mine in 2009, it’s gotten into my blood for sure. I don’t much like the Triumph Bonneville replicas, as they are not like the ones I grew up with.
I bought my first bike a year ago. It’s a 2017 883 that had been lowered slightly, drag barred, 1200 converted, upgraded exhaust/intake, and dyno tuned. Previous owner had made it into a type of cafe racer/drag bike. Only bike I’d ever ridden. Taught myself how to ride on it and put over 6000 miles on it in about 10 months before I took a spin on someone’s stock 883. I just thought that was how sportsters were until I hopped on the stock turd. OMG I had no idea how much of a difference those upgrades made in my bike. I thought all sportsters would hit 80+ before shifting out of 4th. Mine is so “sporty” I just assumed that’s why they called them sportsters. Then I understood the compliments on my bike when the baggers I blew past earlier pull into the gas stations behind me. I still won’t outrun the bigger bikes on the long haul, but I’ll leave them in the dust on take offs and curves.
Dude it's crazy as hell seeing Spite ride down Riverside. When I lived off that street I was in college riding my BMX bike everywhere, had no clue that someday I would get into motorcycles and one of my new favorite UA-camrs would be cruising on it.

@@christianbutcher542 I had to rewatch the video, but he states they did send the heads to Hammer Performance for headwork, and that they are running Hammer cams, and it made 90whp with the setup they went with. Rear suspension is fine. The forks shouldn't be decompressing so much under acceleration. Time for a fork cartridge kit or stiffer springs/heavier oil. That 90mph wobble sounds like the death wobble my dyna had before I added the Sputhe stabilizer.

The difference is peak torque rpm... if you don't understand torque curves and only see torque in digits then you simply don't know what you're talking about. For example, my 1275 will cruise all day in 5th gear everywhere from 25mph up to 120mph and not break a sweat. I can run uphill at 25mph in 5th with a passenger like she's not even on the bike with me and outrun my brothers stretched GSXR from a dig to 75mph. That's when hp takes over.

He's barely into the throttle at any point in the video. Also something was wrong with your Roadster if you couldn't merge confidently. Even when stock mine is up to 90+ by the time I full throttle from a on ramp.
@@rattlehead7281 I am sure with those mods it had more power then my 2016 1200 sportster. I went from a 160hp BMW to a 60hp Harley, so it hits me different.
So I followed this build, dreamed and schemed, did I go hammer performance? At the end of the day no cause I still had a warranty but I did pick and choose from the screaming eagle catalog and ended up making just a smidge more power than this build with just a 1200 conversion: 88HP 78Tq 7500rpm redline. The cool part is once the warranty is done and I can slap a hammer performance kit in there the supporting mods I put on for the SE build should work for the 1275 kit and we’ll probably be looking at 120+ @ the wheels 😎
Scouts look cool but I prefer the simplicity of an air cooled engine. I can’t ride a bike that has a radiator on the front. Good thing we all have options as not everyone likes the same thing. ✌️
I don't mind sportsters, but I work 93 miles from home. That's a fill up per trip🤦 I'm lookin more at an UltraGlide just for sheer comfort an tank size with my commute

There's nothing like buying a brand new 40 year old technology only to spend $$$ to boost up the engine to make the power your happy with. And then find out you need better brakes better suspension, different pegs and a custom comfortable set. Then you find out the fuel tank only holds enough fuel to get across town. 🤪🤑😤
Harley should be ashamed of not developing the Sportster as a performance platform instead of trying to get a 900lb bike to pull wheelies and burnouts. Sportsters forever
D and d fatcat exhaust would have made more power and sounds amazing! I wasn't a fan of the looks of the 2 into 1 but one ride and I was converted. With a 1200 EVO engine , the number one restriction in volumetric efficiency is the heads . Increase flow in the heads , example 1 - Good CNC porting example 2 - Bigger valves That's why the 1250 heads give the biggest increase for the $$$ spent. It also doesn't hurt to have more cubic inches to go along with it . As the saying goes : There's no replacement for displacement.
So it sounded like you built a Scout Bobber, but it’s slower, heavier, air cooled, vibrates more, is down a gear, and cost more? Probably should just buy a Bobber.

I miss this Bike! (Well, the 883) I learned on this actually Melted a boot too like a Yammie Noob 🥾🔥
Ive built 2 of these sportster big bits bikes, they love rpm.... this new one has s&s super sport heads and it is roudy.... still running drag pipes 🤷♂️ my last one had the same but with andrews n8 cams and a 2-1 straight pipe, s&s super e jetted
I ride a o7 C model ,stage 1 883 it rides n runs sweet ,it's hot here always ,I've not ridden a 48 ,but mine has none of the handling problem s you mentioned ,it's far from my first rodeo , maybe it's just a model thing ,but she's no slouch in corners ,or stop n with factory equipment ,fast enough to surprise friends with so big dollar bikes of all breeds , people who constantly bag sportster s , clearly have never owned one ,they make smiles n miles ,but they never will be 5o K track bikes simple
I had a 2016 Roadster. I remember if i was merging on the highway I practically had to get off and push it to get up to speed. I am watching him get on it and not seeing the speedo move , having bad flashbacks... Sounds nice though.
He's barely into the throttle at any point in the video. Also something was wrong with your Roadster if you couldn't merge confidently. Even when stock mine is up to 90+ by the time I full throttle from a on ramp.
@@ZombieZim713 I traded in a 160hp BMW K1200 for a 55hp Roadster. It was only tolerable after 2-1 exhaust, intake and a tune.
My 2012 883 with only a exhaust, intake, cam, and tune easily makes it up to the 70 mph highway speed limit
@@rattlehead7281 I am sure with those mods it had more power then my 2016 1200 sportster. I went from a 160hp BMW to a 60hp Harley, so it hits me different.
Spite just called my beloved bike silly. Spite is one silly silly goose.
This is the way
This is the way. 48 Sporty here
Is it cool? Yes
Is it worth it vs getting a scout? No
We love it anyway
Do we? XD I mean, It's fun seeing them drive it and stuff, but I still prefer other bikes.
*continues to have wet dreams about Triumph Speedmasters*
@@cy-one I don't want a triumph. What you want is not what others want.
@@mr.b3168 exactly my point 😀
@@cy-one then quit being annoying
Scouts look cool but I prefer the simplicity of an air cooled engine.
I can’t ride a bike that has a radiator on the front. Good thing we all have options as not everyone likes the same thing. ✌️
more Sportster videos!! yeiiiii I'm loving it!!
That exhaust needs a thunder torque insert and get redynoed to get that 100+ without changing the exhaust
Thunder torque inserts are a joke
To slow to beat the 10 ton truck. 😆
Yea us sporty riders have been saying if they were to put a 6 speed in then it would be a better bike.
I don't mind sportsters, but I work 93 miles from home. That's a fill up per trip🤦 I'm lookin more at an UltraGlide just for sheer comfort an tank size with my commute
Is it fast or is it quick? There is a difference, a bike that can do 0-60 quickly or a bike that can do over 120 mph
Clearly you’ve never road harleys before he’s talking about the torque
.....I get the idea lots of power at low rpms without having to rev it up but not realy worth the work or money. Not for me but the style is cool and that's why youd buy the bike.
Now add the trask turbo kit
fwiw, that's the best performing pipe for the sportster. That is a Patriot pipe, right? A lot of the horsepower is in the tune. I can almost guarantee Jason at 1-Forty-1 Speed cycles could get ya right.
Got some questions sir:
1. Is it wobbly at 100mph?
2. Can it easily maintain 80-90mph? And what is the rpm?
Thank you!
I can't speak for his but my stock 883 can easily maintain 80. It takes a bit longer to get there but it can hold 85 at probably around 5000 rpm
i have a 883 with a bigbore kit on it. i dont even need to shift to 5th until like 70 75... it cruises at 85 all day at a low rumble
ive had it up to 95 a few times and its still pulling, it a little scary going that fast on such a light package!!
@@thelongeared1 a sportster is a boat comparing other bikes in its class. The sportster s is 80 pounds less and just catching up with the others in the class.
There's nothing like buying a brand new 40 year old technology only to spend $$$ to boost up the engine to make the power your happy with. And then find out you need better brakes better suspension, different pegs and a custom comfortable set. Then you find out the fuel tank only holds enough fuel to get across town. 🤪🤑😤
If you can’t afford it just say that they aren’t toys for little boys
I would put the big bore kit and leave the 883 badges on it lol like a Ford pinto with a 454
Come on dude, we all can see that a Honda Civic will still walk off.
Lol ok
yea, no. not even against a stock Sporty. lol
And even if it could... YAWN
That engine with a slipper clutch and a 6 speed trans and you still have a sportster. Only now, you have a sportster for the price of a CVO special
Sportbike guys listening to Spite call 90 hp “potent”:
...
lmao out of 1.3 times the engine volume
😂😂😂😂
And this is the guy that has ridden bothering a zh2 and a busa
To be fair it does have a lot of torque paired with it
90 hp is potent for an air cooled push rod v-twin. To compare it to a liquid cooled DOHC is unfair and misses the point entirely.
I'm told you can put roadking tubes on the front too stabilize the front end .
I got 80 hp out of just pipes and aircleaner. 1275 should pump out more than 90.
On a 883 ?
It’s all about the weak link his is the exhaust.
My 1200 made 97 hp and 93 torque with just stage 1 air screaming eagle kit d and d 2-1 and a set of Andrew's cams.. such a fun bike and way to fast for the frame lol.. love the look of that iron tho!
With a 1200 EVO engine , the number one restriction in volumetric efficiency is the heads .
Increase flow in the heads ,
example 1 - Good CNC porting
example 2 - Bigger valves
That's why the 1250 heads give the biggest increase for the $$$ spent.
It also doesn't hurt to have more cubic inches to go along with it .
As the saying goes : There's no replacement for displacement.
What cams from Andrew’s did you install?
@@CactusJack252n4 I believe. It's been years ago. Bought the bike new in 07. Put the cams in probably around 2010ish.
I have a 2012 883 and it has some balls not that much but it’s fun
When/how do we find out who won the beginner bike giveaway? I keep checking the website but I don’t see anything.
What temp does the bike run at before and after the tune?
Hey guys, love the content. I’ve noticed when you mod bikes that I almost never see you add a high flow air filter. Why is that?
I’m more of a bigger bike guy like road glide or like road king I’m just to big for a sportster I’ve tried
I love my 883 the way it is, but FML when i go 1275cc!
couple of rough craft guerillas sorted i am gonna get stage one on my 883 then just gonna buy a 1200
So it sounded like you built a Scout Bobber, but it’s slower, heavier, air cooled, vibrates more, is down a gear, and cost more? Probably should just buy a Bobber.
It's got a tune, you can dance with it😂😂😂
“This is a hot motor” 😂 mate my BMW S1000XR puts out almost double the horsepower with 275cc less engine 😂 LMFAO
I don't understand how it's wobbling at 90. I pushed my 95 sportster past 120 and it didn't wobble
It only has 90 horsepower cuz you still have the 883 heads and cams in it
Kinda thinking about my Forty eight to pump it up on a 100HP Kit :D.
What kit was used here? As spite says a 100hp. Is this is 100+ hp kit with ported heads, changed valves etc.?
Yes. It can make more with better exhaust and a better intake
Went from 0-60 in never to 0-60 in eventually
wat? stock Sportsters can cut low 4 second 60's. Pleeeenty quick.
@@ZombieZim713 yea I’m pretty sure he’s joking lol. My 09 Nightster went 4.04 0-60 and 12.45 at 108 in the 1/4 using the dragy app. Bike is only stage 1. I think that is plenty quick for a Harley.
Fair enough but as far as harleys go thats BLISTERING 😂
@@tomr862 that’s blistering? They can hit 9s with the right work.
@Danny Norsten I have an 09 Nightster as well in. Silver and black thinking of doing the Hammer 1275 conversion kit.
What about rev limiter? Did you switch for higher revs than stock permits? Dino chart shows you wrung it out, but was that with stock electronic module?
did HD ever update the frame? the yamaha bolt just looks much nicer option tbh
How fast did it go? I could get mine up to about 118 and I weigh about 205.
Mine does 122 on the dot. The motor could do more. But the transmission could not.
It could defiantly use a sixth gear.
Finally got a bike haha, it's a 2010 Honda Phantom 750, Bobber style custom. Love it, taking my MSF next month, so, excited to start the journey haha. Anyways, this channel, is easily the best, and I will continue to plug in, as I will always seek further learning, would hate to end up on a "What not to do" video haha!!
I'm chuckling during this whole video and I'm thinking that I'll never have a Harley and that I'll just stick to my super fast and great handling liter bike.
Where did you get it Dyno tuned at? I need to get mine done, installing the kit soon as it comes in the mail.
Sounds great still looks slow af tho
I mean...it’s not a race bike
Thats right. By no means is it a sport bike @@AdamSmith-gx9qm
