I have a friend that literally travels all over the United States and digs up crystals and precious stones. She cuts, polishes, and even does metal smithing to make settings for them. Although I don’t use many crystals or the like in practice, she’s my go-to for those things because I know exactly where they came from and that the person digging them up is doing it with happiness and gleeful passion ❤️

Much needed video, thank you! I don’t buy many crystals anymore, I tend to work with stones that I find during my nature walks.

Thats a great idea - I have started paying more attention to the stones I see on my walks as well - we always want just the "pretty - exotic ones"

Greetings! I live and collect rocks in the Pacific Northwest, polish and tumble myself. I am also a geologist in training, (Bachelor of science) and have, at this point, almost collapsed my house beneath the hoard of rocks and minerals in my collection! I am interested in selling to those who want ethically sourced specimens. I have polished quartz, a plethora of agates and jasper, UV reactive opal from a mine in Nevada, Oregon sunstones (labradorite with copper inclusions). There are mines like Spectrum Mines in Plush, Oregon that will ship out buckets of material if you want to get the experience of discovery. There are other mines that also do this; I've visited Spectrum and they are a small operation with relatively little harm done to the land ( small pits). I also think finding your own rocks/minerals is the best, which leads me to adventure in the desert and the beaches often. A wonderful way to attune with nature. Thanks for addressing this important issue!

I find agates, Jasper, quartz, and petrified wood at most ocean beaches along the Oregon Coast. Ive harvested obsidian from Glass Butte too.

Thank youuu so much for discussing about this!! I do a technical course of environment and as I knew more about this whole witchcraft path I would get more enchanted by it, till I bought my first crystals. Then, I realized I didn't really know what to do with them. And that many people just like me, are buying it just because it is pretty and cool but excessively. And as a student both of environment and witchcraft, I noticed the contradiction: how come we witches respect nature if we take from her on a daily basis?? That includes taking crystals, herbs etc from their original places. Without mentioning the harm to miners.. due to that, i feel a bit stuck in my practice, because, i wanna practice witchcraft but I feel bad for taking off petals or buds from plants.. what do you recommend me to research and understand? I've researched and yes plants do have spirits but seems that they feel less pain than animals.. what do you think?
For the crystals, i think of vistting crystal places such as one very famous in Brazil(where i live) where you literally stumble upon quartz crystals.. i really wanna go there periodically whenever i feel drained

i find lots in the north penines, quartz and fluorite mostly, lots of abandoned mines , theres always a stream nearby and lots of spoil heaps , quartz is my favourite.

For buying crystals second hand on places little Depop or eBay, have a look at the account to make sure they’re not selling enough for the crystals to be drop shipped because then that sort of defeats the point. It tends to be safer to find personal (rather than business accounts) who are just selling on their crystals that they don’t use anymore xx
