Those early Stones albums are so good. Sticky Fingers and Exile are my favorites but I still throw on the early stuff almost as much. I wish it had worked out for Brian.
With an enlarged heart and liver, Brian wouldn't have lived much longer even if he hadn't drowned. I'd even say he still wouldn't have made it to thirty. It's a shame because he was such a talented man. This is a great documentary, by the way. Please keep making them.
I think that's likely. It sounds like he was trying to do better, but the damage to the body had been done. At least he did get to live at Cotchford for awhile. And Charlie says he did visit him.
Brain self-medicated with substances. Probably, suffered with bi-polar depression. Dreadful shame he didn't get proper help. His fate would have been different.

This is a truly fascinating documentary about the Stones and the mystery of BJ. And there’s so many bizarre stories regarding these guys, but this one really delves deeper into their world. Plus, the slick narration of this episode couldn’t have been any better. Incredible stuff !

Bill Wyman is the guy trying to rewrite the bands history. I am piecing together what really happened from Brian's own words. Interviewer--- What were you doing before you joined? ( The band) Brian---"um well I was just sort of bumming around waiting for something to happen really. I had quite a few jobs and uh I was trying to get a band going but it was unsuccessful until I met up with Mick and Keith" Notice he didn't say, I auditioned and chose Mick and Keith As Bills's unlikely story tells it... He said " I met up with..." Brian Jones explaining to an interviewer about not being able to start a band and instead joining Keith's band, The Blue Boys. Brian was UNSUCCESSFUL at trying to get a band going. Brian is telling us he had no band but he wanted still to be in a band. “The band is really an amalgamation of two bands. The one being an R&B band I formed about a year ago, and the other being a group run by Mick and Keith in S.E. London. I was introduced to Keith and we decided to pool our resources, so with Stu from my band, and Mick from Keith’s we became the nucleus of the ‘Stones.’” The group run by Mick and Keith in S E London was the Blue Boys. Brian went to Keith to see if he could join their band that had been founded seven months prior. "We decided to pool our resources..." is Brian's saving face way of saying that He and Ian Joined the Blue Boys. The Blue Boys never broke up, they just had two new members. They decided to change their name to the Rollin Stones before playing the Marquee Club but Ian was opposed to it. He hated the name so they could not arrive at a consensus... When Brian was talking to the Jazz News on the phone about publicizing their debut he was asked their name. He Gave the name the band had discussed, making it official. It makes a great story, that he just looked down, but there were no Muddy Waters album covers on the floor of the phone booth. Think about it...They could hardly afford heat and food they certainly couldn't afford a residential phone,
I liked the early Stones stuff. Brian’s slide on the pinky finger is the best. Sitar, recorder, you name it, Brian’s many instruments added color to the band. Keith came up with clever licks and tried new tunings. The Stones should have all gotten off of drugs and alcohol. They could have written better lyrics. They copied the Beatles too much. Allen Klein was a you-know-what! I have my own experience with THEM now. I invested my life savings with Celsius. Alex Mashinsky, the CEO, and one of THEM, stole my life savings. If Alex’s head should appear on a stick in front of the Barbizone Building with ants crawling on it, I would nod my head in approval.

It is said that Jones made contributions in the studio. Unfortunately Brian succumbed to drugs. I guess the competition with The Beatles in the 60's spurred them to create pop masterpieces. I know everyone claims that Exile is their best, but music is subjective.
@@manuelaguirre1062 Jones did not write any part of Ruby Tuesday. Every note played in that song was written by Keith Richards alone including the recorder accompaniment The bass and the piano. Pianist Jack Nitzsche explains how they had to spoon feed each phrase to Jones and record each part to be stitched together in the final mix down.. Jones never played anything like that in his life and he could never duplicate the studio work in a live setting. He would forget some phrases and put the wrong cadences at the chord changes tooting away out of time and often off key.
Don't forget Mick has stated that who was Stone's bassist in early lives has been lost in the mists of time!!! It WAS Dick Taylor, his childhood friend; those guys are narcissistic, erasing whatever doesn't fit their narrative!
Brian Jones was THE first rock star. The first to wear his girlfriend's shirts which Keith would copy, the first to bring slide guitar to British audiences.........just innovative. Listen to his guitar from the gig the first bit of footage shows, its high in the mix, raw raunchy almost punk.
Think Brian Jones was basically, to coin a seemingly now overused phrase, " Thrown under the Bus". Yes, the Drugs did play a part. But, he was the true musician of the group. And the most creative member. Mick was basically a prick in some ways
Yes, but Allen Klein didn’t cheat them out of that, they lost all rights to things like that when they first signed with Andrew Oldham and Eric Easton. Klein merely bought out Oldham when Oldham did a runner in 67.
I always find it hypercritical of Keith Richards to be talking about Brain Jones "being out there" in regards to his drug additions. Richards became a full blown drug addict himself and he's fortunate to be walking the earth yet today.
It was as much his own fault. He could’ve written songs for the band and remained a force, but he either was unable to or was afraid to. He was jealous of both Mick and Keith’s songwriting and Mick’s status as lead singer and focal point of the band (not much he could do about that one). These factors were his undoing as he was unable to accept this and instead of trying to assert himself he withdrew snd became difficult to be around. As for Anita, he was abusing her and so she left that fated Moroccan trip with Keith.
Excuses are like ass holes they all stink. Who gives a monkeys that he couldn't write a songs who knows what he could have achieved. Sadly we will never know. But for sure him and Jimi could have been a powerhouse of something great monumental even.
Brian clearly did try to assert himself, and succeeded in many ways. Multiple sources have described Brian taking charge in the studio and arranging the songs they'd bring in. It's his touches that made so many of their songs hits. @@jayhpaq

Tom Keylock was The Stones driver and Tour Manager. He was their Mr Fixit until 1969. You can see him in The Hyde Park film from 1969 and in the studio with the band while filming Goddards ‘Sympathy For The Devil’. He was at Brian’s home before and after he died.

The Rolling Stones, as we know them, were formed when one October day in 1961 Keith noticed the hard to find R&B albums under Mick's arm on the Dartford train platform #2 and recognized his old classmate from primary school and started up a conversation. The blue plaque honoring that moment Remains in place there as it should. Research into Wyman's silly claims of Brian forming the band gave reason for Wyman's objections to be eventually dismissed by the town Council, and the historic blue plaque remains there in it's original and accurate wording to this day. Their enduring and unique musical partnership has withstood the test of time and given us one of the most successful rock bands in history.
The real musical talent within the Rolling Stones was undeniable Brian Jones. However Jagger/Jones strived to become the next Lenon/Macartny without any succes. What or who ever killed Brian The emotional killers and egocentric persons are known. His unprofessional attitude was the result of the non empathic behaviour of MJ/KR so why say sorry after the deed many years later? It's 'good' Dylan ('he knows what it means to be overrated') got the Nobel price on literature, peace making was not his strong partner, arrogance for sure!
I've heard this narrative over many years how Brian was the true founder and musical genius of the Stones, and how Mick and Keith took over and pushed him out, but I have yet to see or hear any definitive performance of Brian Jones singing or playing. I have never heard any songs that he actually wrote or performed by himself. No studio clips that show him as a virtuoso on anything. Is there any content out there, audio or video that actually shows Brian as musical genius??
Unfortunately no.There are no performances or material that justifies the adoration Brian gets. It seems that his good looks are all that they can come up with to Justify their blind devotion and lies and fantasies about this very mediocre musician

@@williardbillmore5713Mick Taylor was surely their best guitarist, but the Stones most emblematic songs are from the Jones era. Jones co wrote Ruby Tuesday but he didnt get credit. It is said that Jones made contributions in the studio. Unfortunately Brian succumbed to drugs. I guess the competition with The Beatles in the 60's spurred them to create pop masterpieces. I know everyone claims that Exile is their best, but music is subjective.
@@manuelaguirre1062 Jones did not write any part of Ruby Tuesday. Every note played in that song was written by Keith Richards alone including the recorder accompaniment The bass and the piano.
Pianist Jack Nitzsche explains how they had to spoon feed each phrase to Jones and record each part to be stitched together in the final mix down..
Jones never played anything like that in his life and he could never duplicate the studio work in a live setting. He would forget some phrases and put the wrong cadences at the chord changes tooting away out of time and often off key.

Brian Jones was THE first rock star. The first to wear his girlfriend's shirts which Keith would copy, the first to bring slide guitar to British audiences.........just innovative. Listen to his guitar from the gig the first bit of footage shows, its high in the mix, raw raunchy almost punk.
Think Brian Jones was basically, to coin a seemingly now overused phrase, " Thrown under the Bus". Yes, the Drugs did play a part. But, he was the true musician of the group. And the most creative member. Mick was basically a prick in some ways

Yes, but Allen Klein didn’t cheat them out of that, they lost all rights to things like that when they first signed with Andrew Oldham and Eric Easton. Klein merely bought out Oldham when Oldham did a runner in 67.

I always find it hypercritical of Keith Richards to be talking about Brain Jones "being out there" in regards to his drug additions. Richards became a full blown drug addict himself and he's fortunate to be walking the earth yet today.

Stole his band, stole his girlfriend then ostracised him completely. Too much for a young vulnerable guy. Obviously.
It was as much his own fault. He could’ve written songs for the band and remained a force, but he either was unable to or was afraid to. He was jealous of both Mick and Keith’s songwriting and Mick’s status as lead singer and focal point of the band (not much he could do about that one). These factors were his undoing as he was unable to accept this and instead of trying to assert himself he withdrew snd became difficult to be around. As for Anita, he was abusing her and so she left that fated Moroccan trip with Keith.

Brian clearly did try to assert himself, and succeeded in many ways. Multiple sources have described Brian taking charge in the studio and arranging the songs they'd bring in. It's his touches that made so many of their songs hits. @@jayhpaq

Tom Keylock was The Stones driver and Tour Manager. He was their Mr Fixit until 1969.
You can see him in The Hyde Park film from 1969 and in the studio with the band while filming Goddards ‘Sympathy For The Devil’.
He was at Brian’s home before and after he died.

The Rolling Stones, as we know them, were formed when one October day in 1961 Keith noticed the hard to find R&B albums under Mick's arm on the Dartford train platform #2 and recognized his old classmate from primary school and started up a conversation. The blue plaque honoring that moment Remains in place there as it should.

What or who ever killed Brian The emotional killers and egocentric persons are known. His unprofessional attitude was the result of the non empathic behaviour of MJ/KR so why say sorry after the deed many years later? It's 'good' Dylan ('he knows what it means to be overrated') got the Nobel price on literature, peace making was not his strong partner, arrogance for sure!

I've heard this narrative over many years how Brian was the true founder and musical genius of the Stones, and how Mick and Keith took over and pushed him out, but I have yet to see or hear any definitive performance of Brian Jones singing or playing. I have never heard any songs that he actually wrote or performed by himself. No studio clips that show him as a virtuoso on anything. Is there any content out there, audio or video that actually shows Brian as musical genius??
Unfortunately no.There are no performances or material that justifies the adoration Brian gets. It seems that his good looks are all that they can come up with to Justify their blind devotion and lies and fantasies about this very mediocre musician
