Jim compared to the other artists idolized wasn’t even a bad person. By all friends accounts, he was a drunk, but also a sweet and caring person. And it’s not like he was drunk all the time. He still made time for albums, tours, rehearsals, and poetry.

The part where his dad didn't put down his newspaper reminds me of my father when I showed him my first little book, a volume on Aleister Crowley. Not quite as bad, but my mother said "Don't you want to see your son's book?" He put down the paper, flicked quickly through it, said 'Very good, son", and resumed reading the news as my mom rolled her eyes and sighed, as if to say how typical of him.

His only problem is that he became famous. He would have lived a happy life if he was unknown. You hang out with your friends you can be honest as well as laugh your asses off. You make it and all these people want to be with you and you start to feel lonely among so many people that are not on the same page.

    • @theodoreconstantini2548

I think personally think his life would have been a lot worse had he never become a famous Rock star. Because money had its benefits and he was insulated from some of the worst things life can throw at you. I think he would have really struggled to find an occupation that suited him, and one allowed him to make a decent living. And I don't think he could have been like Bukowski who worked ,at a post office, until his literary career took off.

@@judea7322Facts. When I hear people mention who's "famous" these days I either laugh or throw up in my mouth a bit... It's purely farce now. I think famous people should be the veterans, the police(real), the linemen, the engineers, the doctors(real) etc. It's all just a certain tribe putting others in their tribe on a pedestal. Moreso than in the past because they own the phones and the search engines.

Thanks that was so informative. Jim was obviously a tortured individual, and it for sure looks like growing up in his family was not fun at all. I always felt in my heart, the harder the rock, the more abusive the parents. Jim's voice seemed to be that of a much older man -- an iconic lead vocalist in the rock world.
Now, as for The Doors' recordings, the overdubbing and other fancy recording techniques seemed to be abandoned. Their sound was always that of the band playing live in a single take. They just didn't have the patience for orchestration or other effects.

"You're lost little girl" and "I can't see your face in my mind" is the height of the Doors studio genius in my mind. After that album, however, the band composed each album, thereafter, of all new original material from there (Soft Parade through LA Woman LPs). Also, Jim would have turned 25 in late 1968, not 24. I really like Jim Morrison. There is no performer like him and we are not likely to have one in the near future. A psychiatrist friend of mine told me in general conversation, not the case of Jim Morrison that an emotionally cold father or distant father can seriously damage boys. Less so girls. I found that interesting. It is a form of abuse. Boys "diminished" by their fathers tend to develop oppositional defiant disorder and have problems with any form of authority - a symptom of low self-esteem. It looks like Jim's father is largely responsible for Jim being emotional turmoil.

The relationships we have with our families, esp. the parents are major factors in shaping our personalities. We either obey and conform, or rebel and go wild. It's obvious that Jim's relationship with his father was probably the primary factor in shaping his personality. Everything his father represented, everything he was, Jim became the opposite. It's too bad he self destructed, but maybe he had already done his best work by that time. Actually dying mysteriously was a great career move. Imagine if he had lived; would he have become just another fat bald guy singing his old hits in lounges around the world? In some parallel Universe, that's what is happening.

He would have ignored his children, as he never wanted children and , was not emotionally available to carry out a parental role, at all. And he even talked his sometime girlfriend (Patricia Kennealy ) into getting an abortion. All this is explained clearly "in no here gets out alive" .
Where Jim is quoted as saying very clearly he did not want to be a father to anybody's child even Pamela's who was his main girlfriend at the time.
If he had been a father he would have been one of these deadbeat dads that have nothing to do with his child, and have to be forced by the courts to stump up some financial support.

@@Dominic-tn9gv I don't need to have met him to have an opinion on him or to be able to come to some conclusions about him. Everybody who comments on these sites has an opinion, or comes to some conclusion about Jim Morrison. Especially his fanatical fans. I don't think you have met him either and I'm sure you have an opinion on him. At least mine are based on solid facts, and are hardly uniquely held. Everything I claim is well attested to, in numerous books written on him, affirmed by witnesses , or are reasonable assumptions given what we know about him.
There numerous books and biographies on Jim and the Doors, (and I have read nearly all of them) and many people have giving accounts of him, so there is a hell lot of information to go on, and that's what I base my assessment of his personality. Every claim I make is actually based on evidence from his life. You just don't like my well supported conclusions, maybe because some of them are so unflattering, but the balance of available evidence is not on your side it's on my side. So do some proper research and then come back and see me.
